Chapter 4

After her conversation with Lorelei, Integra called Walter into her office. The stoic butler bowed to his mistress and asked her how he could be of service.

"Mika has been found. She was taken in by Iscariot and now Lorelei is going after her. Walter, I want you to go after Lorelei. She won't be able to take the wolf down without some help even though she'd never admit it. It's our problem now too. Iscariot will not be able to control that dog, and now the beast knows where Lorelei has been staying. I wouldn't be surprised if Mika came to Headquarters against orders. We need to eliminate this threat." She explained. "Search and destroy. Do you understand?" Integra ordered, eyes narrowing.

Walter lifted his right hand to his chest and bowed. His eyes gleamed dangerously. It had been a while since he had been sent on a mission. If Sir Integra thought the female werewolf was so dangerous that even Lorelei would need backup, it must be bad.

"As you wish Sir." Bowing again, Walter exited the room. Now he had to find his companion before she left without him.

"Walter." Lorelei sighed, not looking over at the figure that had come up beside her. She should have known Master would send someone else with her on such a personal case. "I'd tell you to go back, but I know you won't listen." She spoke quietly, resigned.

"You are quite correct Ms. Lorelei." The black-haired butler chuckled, adjusting his monocle. He was fond of the woman. They became good friends once he had first come to Hellsing. Lorelei had been the one to show him the ropes of the organization and they had even been assigned as partners on a few missions. There was no way he'd make such a close friend face her fears alone.

"Very well then. You are aware how dangerous this mission is, right?" She asked, hands curling into fists at her side. Her breath came out in a white cloud. It was getting colder. Night was nearly upon them. The last light in the sky struggled against the smothering darkness that threatened to swallow it up. "This won't be an easy task, but we must succeed. Mika is a threat to all." The she-wolf shuddered. "I don't want anyone else to have to go through what I once had."

"I understand the circumstances." Walter nodded solemnly. "Regardless, I am not going to allow you to do this by yourself, Ms. Lorelei." His face was set with determination and anticipation of what was to come. They fell into silence and after a few more minutes the night sky overcame the remaining daylight. Walter cleared his throat.

"May I inquire as to where we are going?" The thought hadn't occurred to him before. Even though Mika was with Iscariot didn't mean that she would be at its headquarters. The brunette woman's reply sent shivers down his spine.

"Oh we aren't going to have to search for her. She will come to us." Her voice was icy. "Mika would never pass up an opportunity to finish what she started so long ago. The dark magic consumed her completely." She didn't even care that father was murdered along with the rest of our kind. That black fleabag is now a mindless puppet to the dark magic she gave her soul over to. All it wanted was to consume and destroy.

Seamlessly shifting from human form to wolf, Lorelei lead Walter to an old, secluded shack. She padded inside, looking around. This should do. She nodded. It was dilapidated, and had long been abandoned. No one would miss it if it would be destroyed. Lorelei nodded her head, turning to face the entrance. She froze when a gentle breeze carried a faint scent to her. Another werewolf? The she-wolf shook her head. Never mind that. The scent was so faint, it had to have been a while since whoever it was had been there. She had to focus on her current task.

Lorelei turned to Walter, who nodded to her. Then she threw her head back and howled. The sound ripped out of her throat in a beautiful but terrifying melody. I know you can hear me! Come to me traitor! I will tear you to shreds for what you have done!

The moon had reached its zenith when Lorelei felt Mika's presence. It was an overwhelming aura of pure malice that was almost palpable in the air. She saw Walter stiffen beside her. A few heartbeats went by then a shadowy figure stepped into the moonlight. To any other onlooker the ebony shewolf would have taken their breath away with her beauty, but when Lorelei's eyes locked in on Mika her blood began to boil. An aching sadness and churning hatred battled inside her—feelings long since buried rose all at once. Everything else in the world faded away so that all she could see was Mika. Lorelei bounded out into the open, driven forward by the emotions raging inside her. Her green aura burst forth from her as she leapt at her enemy snarling.

Mika's eyes gleamed menacingly, a feral growl ripped from her throat as she jumped to meet Lorelei midair. They collided, teeth flashing, trying to snap at each other's necks, and claws slashed at one another's vulnerable underbellies. The two wolves fell to the ground, rolling around in a flurry of attacks. Lorelei's fangs sunk into Mika's left shoulder. The black shewolf howled furiously and she raked her back paws across Lorelei's stomach, leaving deep gashes behind on her underbelly. The pain caused the chocolate furred shewolf to loosen her grip. She leapt back.

"How rude of you to greet me in such a way." Mika cackled, tail lashing behind her. "I am your aunt after all." She snickered.

Lorelei snarled, lowering her head. "The only thing you are is a murderer!"

The two wolves began to circle one another, searching for an opening. Their auras clashed around them, light green with dark purple. Sparks flew. Suddenly, wires flashed, wrapping around Mika's torso. They were so focused on one another that they hadn't noticed Walter standing a little ways off. The butler slung the black wolf into the shack. It exploded on impact, debris flying every which way.

"Remember, Ms. Lorelei, you are not in this alone." Walter nodded to her, flexing his wrists.

Lorelei shot Walter a wolfy grin. A spark of warmth shot through her. She was grateful for her friend's assistance. The shewolf was just about to turn her attention toward the shack once more when a searing pain pierced her right side and she was thrown into a tree. She fell to the ground with a thud. A small stake stuck out of her shoulder blade.

"What's wrong, darling? Did you get a splinter?" Mika laughed manically, stepping out of the rubble. Pieces of wood and stone floated in the air around her by wisps of purple, poised for attack. "Tsk. It looks pretty deep, my dear. Maybe I can dig it out with another?!" She flicked her tail and a barrage of stakes flew towards Lorelei like a cloud of arrows. Walter tried to step in, slashing through the posts with his wires until he was flung back by Mika's aura. Stakes pinned him to the remnants of the shack's remaining wall. "Stay out of my way you bloody human!" Mika snarled.

The ebony-coated shewolf turned back to Lorelei. A few more stakes had found their mark and Lorelei's chocolate fur became stained red all over. She had struggled to her feet when Mika's attention was diverted. Her legs trembled. She tried stepping forward and cringed but continued toward Mika. Her mind was reeling. I need to beat her…but how? I'm…not strong enough. But...I need to…kill…her. Lorelei swayed, she was losing too much blood. At this rate she would pass out in a matter of minutes. Father…I'm…so sorry. Lorelei's legs gave out a few feet from the dark wolf. She strained to get back to her feet.

"You should stay down like a good girl." Mika walked up to Lorelei, putting her paw on a stake and pushing down on it. Lorelei yelped. Mika leaned down by the younger wolf's ear. "You're pathetic just like your parents. You deserve to die just like they did."

Just as she was about to make the final blow a flash of silver barreled into the dark wolf's side. The force of the blow caused the tree she was flung into to snap in half. A massive light grey wolf planted himself in front of Lorelei protectively.

Do not worry fräulein. A deep voice rumbled in Lorelei's head. The mysterious wolf turned his head slightly and looked back at her tenderly with crimson eyes. Let me help you.
