Chapter 4
Clary's POV
I must admit, Isabelle looked really good. She blended in really nicely with the rest of the crowd. I was worried when I pulled into her parking lot that she would definitely be underdressed, but when she came out, she had an adequate dress on. Her figure really pulled it off, and she at least knew greater fashion. Seeing her house, I was almost going to resend the invitation; but god damn if that would make me look like a real bitch.
Her brother, Alec, also really pulled off a good look too. His white t-shirt and suit jacket and pants was very casual but gave the impression of dressed down wealth. Anybody could have mistaken it for a guy who decided not to wear a suit. It didn't blend in with the party well but it was not something anybody would give a second glance to.
Simon, however, stood out like a sore thumb. From the way Isabelle looked at him I could tell that this was probably as fancy as it got for him. His hair was a mess, his blue button-up was cheap, his khaki jacket didn't match-anything at all for that matter- and he was wearing jeans. Jeans! They were thankfully black and unnoticeable from a distance but my god it was as if everybody noticed. And in the dance area? I was surprised Isabelle decided to bring him at all unless she had full intention of being embarrassed. She, instead, looked at him with adoring eyes, somehow finding his utter dorkiness attractive.
If Isabelle and Alec weren't also company, I was sure my parents would have something to say. They might say something anyway at the end of the night.
I should have checked in with them earlier. I should have approved their clothing. I should have concreted my initial thinking of their wealth. Seeing Isabelle in the club, I guess I thought she was of wealth from her look. With her silk dress that had elegance and lascivious written all over it paired with designer heels, I thought she had to have some wealth to her name. Not to mention, Pandemonium is not a commoner club; it is for a more higher quality party. The drinks are more expensive, the music is louder, the place is bigger, and entry is not easy or cheap. I mean, her with two hot boys flanking her side? It doesnt make sense.
Maybe they just got their fashion sense from their parents. My father did mention them working for him.
It took some effort to get things in order. I introduced Alec to Magnus so that he didn't look like a creeper in the corner, and I managed to get Isabelle and Simon off the dance floor, and appease my parents with appropriate amounts of mingling with other guests.
The party was great, everything looked as good as possible and people were having a good time.
"Im so happy you invited me to this, this is nice," Isabelle said to me coming to join me at the refreshments table. I had a glass of champagne in my hand that no one questioned. "your parents sure know how to throw a good party."
"Yes, they have been throwing these parties since before I was born."
"Yeah, I'll bet. What do your parents do for a living? they sure must make a lot of money."
"My mother is an artist and my father is an entrepreneur, he owns many businesses all over."
"oh, cool. What about you and your brother? Are you artists or entrepreneurs?"
"Well, I aspire after my mother, Jonathan is more following my father's path."
"oh really? that's funny."
"How so?"
"Oh, it's just you look like her and your brother looks like your dad."
I smile at that, "I did inherit her talent."
"Oh, come on. I inherited some." Jonathan interrupted joining in our conversation. " I don't believe we formally met. I'm Jonathan." he said holding his hand out for Isabelle to shake giving one of his charming smiles.
"Hi, Im Isabelle." She said returning the smile. Unnoticeable by most but she did check him out quickly before retracting her hand. Jonathan was wearing a black Armani suit that practically spelled wealth. He wore a dark vest underneath, with a dark red tie and even a handkerchief in his pocket. The color somewhat resembling my dress. I must say we looked like we just walked off a catwalk and I smiled at that notion. My fitted red wine dress that wrapped around me was perfect and the gold only accented it more.
"Where is your friend?" My brother asked in a seemingly innocent curious voice.
"Oh, he went to the restroom." She said pointing in the general direction not taking her eyes off him. I internally sighed as my brother's grin widened as she didn't correct him as she should have.
"I believe I remember you from Pandemonium last night. Quite the transformation you can have" he said taking in her apparel and how modest it was compared to yesterday.
"Oh, yes, well… Clary said formal." she said, and you could see the slightest blush to her cheeks. It may seem that my brother may after all sleep with every girl I knew.
Caught up in their own conversation, I turned to look for Alec and Magnus. They were still in the same area in which I introduced them in, deep in conversation. I was surprised that was all it took for Alec to be sociable, he seemed more shy than that. I turned back to Jon and Isabelle as she laughed and soon after, Simon joined once again at Isabelle's side. Jon being polite introduced himself to Simon. He not seeming to notice anything wrong with his behaviour.
Simon seemed to be having a good time even though this most definitely was not his crowd. I think it had to do with just being with Isabelle and this being her thing.
Around 11pm, our yacht started back to the dock for people to depart. I walked towards my parents as they were saying goodbye to several guests.
"Clarissa, darling, tell your parents that we have left, They seem preoccupied at the moment. We had a great time, we hope there will be another soon."
"Of course, Camille. Always nice to see you. I was just going over there now." I replied with a smile. She was one of the few people who didn't work for my dad or with my mom at this party. She was wealthy and had her own money.
When I reached my parents they were just ending a conversation with several of their friends.
"These people will never leave." my father whispered to my mother, who replied with a giggle.
"Oh, stop it valentine, it was your idea this time." my mother replied jokingly.
"Hello mother, father. Camille has taken her leave."
"Oh good. Clarissa, why don't you attend to your friends, take them home." my father said, barely glancing at me. I turned to make my way back. "Oh,
and clary. Next time, make sure your guests are appropriately dressed." he said pointedly looking at simon. "We don't need commoners running around here." he looked back at me almost accusingly. I knew what he meant. That was his polite way of saying to defriend Simon. He would have been furious if not for Alec's and Isabelle's fashion sense. Otherwise he would be thinking I had just found strangers on the street and brought them-which wasn't that far off.
Ugh, who was he to decide who I hang out with?
I walked back over to Isabelle and Simon as they were talking to each other in hushed tones. As soon as they seen me coming over they went silent.
"Okay, I think its time we head back don't you think?" said.
"Yes, its getting pretty late. You know, I love that dress. Where did you get it? We should really go shopping together sometime." Isabelle replied walking next to me as we headed towards
I smiled in response. There was no way she could afford the clothes that I bought. She turned to call her brother over as we made our way off the boat
