Hey! Next chapter! Yay! So sorry for the hold up! We have the PARCC test in a week or so and the teachers are stressing us out! Not to mention I have a ton of homework. But I couldn't stay away! Well, enjoy!
I am not a guy and I'm pretty sure T.S. Elliot didn't write Fanfiction and I am not his next life! So therefor, I do not own Cats. If I did, it would still be on Broadway and Jacob Brent would be my best pal. Cats belongs to T.S. Elliot, ALW, and the RUG.
P.S. Please reveiw! It doesn't take that long!
Alonzo peered out of the crack in his den. His eyes were sad and red from tears. He sank back to the floor of the den. He had barely slept in the past few days. He dusted off his bandages and struggled to stand. He used the walls of the den as support as he strained to stand on one leg. The other was filled with pain as his unused muscles worked to help him. He had barely moved since Cassandra left him. He had finally managed to stand when his knee buckled and he went crashing to the ground. He picked himself up and tried again, this time grabbing a piece of wood and using it like a crutch. This time he was successful. He wobbled over to his covered den entrance.
Alonzo brushed aside the curtains and stepped out, shielding his eyes from the sudden light. He looked around again, to make sure no one was around. He started towards the secret tunnel he had made with Munkustrap. They were supposed to be used incase of a Macavity attack. Alonzo dragged himself into one that led to a certain clearing. He dragged his limp leg behind him, which was actually very difficult. He reached the end of the tunnel and settled himself so he was comfortable. The tunnel ended higher than it began so it was unlikely that anyone below would see him. Down below were four practicing kittens. Jazmine, Victoria, Quaxo and Athena. Alonzo smiled at his brother's swift and graceful movements, despite their last encounter.
I suppose he hates me now, Alonzo thought with a frown. Each of the kittens were to do a duet part in the kitten's own song this year, but they were to do it with their siblings. Quaxo couldn't participate without Alonzo. Quaxo would most likely end up sitting next to Old Deoutoronomy or Munkustrap during that dance. Athena would be with Admetus, Pouncival, and Electra. Victoria with Jasmine, Plato with Tumble and Ectectra. Since Jemina had no siblings, she would be singing for the dance.
Quaxo looked a little off in his dancing, as if he was distracted. He perked his ears in the direction of the entrance to the clearing. In walked Admetus, Pouncival, and Electra. The kittens stopped stretching and ran to greet the new additions to the practice.
Athena ran to her older brother and jumped into his arms. He was constantly on watch or hunting so their time together was precious.
Jazmine and Victoria greeted Pouncival and Electra with good mornings and hellos.
"Are you here to practice?", Jazmine asked excitedly.
"Yup! Just though we'd join you. Hope you don't mind.", Electra said respectfully. Pouncival had been nodding goofily along with his sister's words. Electra elbowed him hard to warn him to stop.
"No no, that's fine.", Quaxo said. "I could use some help with my trick."
"Yes!", Pouncival, who had been rubbing his sore arm, shouted happily. A broad smile that looked too big for his face was plastered on his mouth.
They all giggled at his strange smile. The kittens headed over to an old tire, followed by Admetus and Athena. Quaxo jumped up onto the tire and the others sat in front of it. Athena sat in her big brother's lap, both of them cris-cross style.
Quaxo stood up on the tire. He closed his eyes and let his magic loose. He could feel the sensation filling his veins with power. It was swift and strong, yet vicious and deadly. Words echoed through his mind, the words spoken by his father.
"You can use your gift for good or you can fall in the black that villans rule over. The choice is your's. But you are not evil. You are the light that never goes out. You are a son of light."
Quaxo chanted an ancient spell as he began to change. His fur became blacker than ever, excepting his chest of white. He opened his dark eyes that had become blue instead of their natural brown. When you see Mistoffelees, you must look at his eyes. If they are light and gray, than you must get him help, even if he is Quaxo. This is something very important you must remember!
His eyes seemed to glow with a new energy. He pointed to a tin can, blasting it with blue lightning. It dissolved in thin air and reappeared in Pouncival's hands. Everyone gasped in wonder, Pouncival especially.
"Show everyone the inside.", Mistoffelees instructed the dumbfounded Pouncival. He tilted the can so everyone could see that there was nothing inside.
"Now turn it over so you only see the bottom. Then let me do the rest.", The magician stated confidently. Pouncival did as he was told and stared at the can, as did everyone else. Mistoffelees blasted the can and whispered an unheard curse, stilled pointing at the can. It started to buzz heavily and shake. Pouncival held it far out in front of him, bracing himself for what was to come. Suddenly, something popped out of the can. Pouncival peeked open his eyes and relaxed a little. It was a strange human object. You would know it as a house key. Then the can rattled again, causing Mistoffelees to give off his signature smile as his trick finished. Pounds of keys poured out of the can, piling almost as tall as a human's garbage can. They smelled of rusting and coppering metals. Mistoffelees smiled broadly at the gawking audience. He lept down from the tire and land in front of the pile of keys.
"What are these?!", asked Electra, picking at one of the keys. She wrinkled her nose. She wasn't much for human things that she didn't find in the junkyard.
"My stash of house keys.", Mistoffelees stated proudly.
"How'd ya get these?!", Pouncival asked in wonder, picking up a set of keys and jingling it in front of him.
"I am the original conjuring cat, am I not?", Mistoffelees asked rhetorically.
"I suppose.", Pouncival mumbled, distracted by the shiny keys in his paws. Mistoffelees turned to the others.
"So, what do you think?", he asked with a nervous smile.
"Misto, that was amazing! What else do you stash?!", Athena asked excitedly. She was leaning out of Admetus's lap and her eyes were wildly curious.
"Tons of things. I like to collect silverware, forks and spoons mostly, watches, pipes, string, wire, all sorts of things. I also keep everything that my girl gives me."
"I understand. I kept everything that Josh gave me. I sure wish I could see your collection!", Athena said longingly. Her human was a cancer patient. But he had died long ago.
Something fell from the sky. A drop of rain. It started to sprinkle, then pour. In the distance, they could hear Jenny calling them to come home. Mistoffelees snapped his fingers and the keys disappeared.
"Maybe another time.", Mistoffelees said, turning back to Quaxo. The kittens rushed out of the clearing to Jenny, all except Quaxo. He looked around. He knew he was being watched, but by who? His first instinct was to run and hide in the protector's arms. But his curiosity got the better of him. He perked his ears and sniffed the air.
Alonzo sunk back a little in the tunnel. His eyes showed over the top, him wanting to see what happened. Quaxo's face went paler than usual (if that was even possible) as he took in the scent.
Quaxo's eyes were wide and horrified. Alonzo sniffed the air to see if he could see what the tux was so afraid of. The scent of unnateral garbage and rot filled his nose. Only then did he realize the shadows hidden in the junk looked very much like cats. Alonzo started to painfully jump down and over the junkyard garbage as the shadows started to move closer to his brother.
Almost everyone was safe and dry in the den. All but Quaxo. Jenny fretted by the door.
"Don't worry dear! I'm sure he just wandered over to Munk and Deme's den. Most likely missed being with 'em. Come get warm.", Skimble calmly told her. She worriedly came over to her mate and they started talking. Victoria and Athena worriedly looked over at each other. That wasn't like Quaxo to break a rule like that. They nodded at each other and as soon as Jenny was completely engaged in the conversation and calm, they crept out of the den. What they didn't know was that a certain railway cat had caught them out of the corner of his glass-green eyes.
Skimble excused himself and said he had to take an emergency blatter call. The remaining kittens laughed at this while Jenny just shook her head at her mate.
As soon as he was outside, Skimble called the young queens back to him. They walked back to him, Athena determined to win the upcoming argument. And Victoria, nervous for any punishment. Skimble was tapping his foot, but he didn't look mad.
"I know what you were going off to do,", he started "And I'm proud."
The shocked looks of the kittens made him smile.
"But you be careful, kits.", he warned. He hugged his daughter and kissed her head fur. He started back into the den.
The two queens ran off in the direction of Quaxo's clearing, Skimble watching them dissapear in the rain.
