Disclaimer: I don't any Covenant character. I just own Phoenix, Chacyti, every other college student and all the teachers. Along with this plot is mine.
Phoenix wakes to a dark room. She was exhausted. That vision took a lot more out of her than she thought. She ran a hand through her hair. She turned on her lamp and reached for her notebook. She started writing out what the last two vision where and when they started. Why was she getting visions now anyway? They shouldn't be happening at all. At least not until after her birthday.
Maybe they were warning her. The last vision gave her a sense of what might be happening. That girl, looked like her. It was a little freaky. She wasn't going to tell Reid about them. He'd start worrying and get all over protective and then she'd never be able to just relax for a single moment.
She loved Reid, she really did. But sometimes he had a tendency when it came to her overdo things. When everything is good, she loved it, but at the slightest hitch of a problem, he'd want to try and save or protect her. It wasn't anything wrong with that, it honestly showed how much he loved her. And she definitely understood, the last time she got possessed because she didn't trust him enough but still.
And until she knew if he could actually do anything positive, this is one secret she'd keep from him.
She turned her phone back on and she had about 10 missed calls from Reid, one from each Sarah, Kate, and Chacyti. It was only 8 o'clock. She'd call Reid back after she had a shower and could get a better perspective of her options.
She quickly undressed and stepped under the spray of the shower. She let it wash away her concerns, anxieties, and worry. She needed to look at things positively or she was going to drive herself crazy.
She had to figure out a way to find out why she was receiving these visions and how to make sure that first one never came true. She really wouldn't be able to live with herself if that happened. She'd rather die than be evil and turn against Reid and the guys, a second time.
She cut the shower off and wrapped a towel around her and stepped back into the room she had to bite down the scream that threatened to escape.
"Damn it, Reid!" Phoenix exclaimed. "You scared me half to death."
"Sorry." Reid words said it but his tone was far from sincere. "When you said you weren't feeling well, I figured I'd come by and check on you but when I stopped by earlier you were sleep, so I went out to get us some food."
Phoenix smiled at her fiancé. Despite what most people believed about Ipswich's own resident bad boy, he really treated her like she was a princess.
"That was thoughtful of you." She smiled as she walked over to her dresser and pulled out an oversized shirt. She let the towel drop and a smile came to her lips when she heard Reid shift on her bed. She put the shirt on and then wrapped her hair up in a messy bun before turning to look at Reid.
"So, what happened?" Reid asked as he set the food along her desk table.
"What do you mean?" She asked, feigning confusion to his question.
"You were fine when you left this morning, but somehow between here and there you got sick. So, what happened for that to happen?" He asked.
"Nothing really. I just started feeling really bad during my second class that I could barely focus. Now, that I've had the chance to lie down, I feel good. And you bringing me food just makes me feel even better." Phoenix replied.
Reid seems to be satisfied with her response so he let it pass as they ate on her bed. And then Reid pulled her into his arms and just held her against his chest.
These moments are what she fell in love with. It's simple when it's just us. There's never felt like there was pressure to be anyone and we've been able to be vulnerable around each other without judgment.
"You know I love you, right?" She whispered to him.
"I do. Just as much as I love you." Reid kissed her temple.
"Reid, I'm afraid about my birthday." She confessed.
"Why would you be afraid?"
"It's this feeling in my gut that tells me that everything will be different. Different from when Chase…stronger, harder than anything we've ever dealt with before."
Reid pulled back so he could see her face. She glanced up at him wearily. Though she knew she wouldn't tell him about her visions, she couldn't hide the building sense of fear she was starting to get from him.
"If it is harder and stronger, then together we have to be stronger than it. This past year has taught me that we're stronger together than we ever have been apart." Reid told her. "What we feel for each other is stronger than any possession. I believe that."
"Reid, you know how you told me how your power is seductive and the more you use the more addictive it becomes." Reid nods. "Well, that's what feeling Chase's powers running through me felt like. The evil was seductive and powerful and a part of it felt good. Is it wrong of me to think that?"
Reid shook his head. "No, it's not wrong of you. Being bad is natural, at least I mean we all have the good and bad in us. Its how we can choose to be good that makes the difference."
"When did you get so smart?" She teased lightly.
He smirked. "What you didn't think I was just a rich pretty face, now did you?"
Reid continued talking. "You have an inner light inside, Ms. Johnson. You're pure and no matter how much evil wants to corrupt that pureness, you're stronger than it could ever be."
Phoenix's eyes tears up a little. She wraps her arms around his neck and hugs him close to her.
"You are a great guy, Reid Garwin. And as bad as you like to portray, you are a good man." She whispers to him. "You should show this side a lot more often."
"What, my sensitive side?" Reid nudges her nose with his own.
"Just this side of you is amazing. No pretense, trying to prove how much of a rebel you can be, just honest even a little boyish is adorable."
"Did you just call me adorable?" Reid is baffled by her statement.
Before her next blink, she's on her back looking up into Reid's eyes. Which are smoldering.
"Now, adorable is never a term I'd want you to refer to me as. God, babe, handsome, are accepted but never adorable. And as much as I'd love to ravish you, that's not what you need tonight but tomorrow you're mine to do whatever I want with." Reid hands move up and down inching her shirt up with each pass
"I'm already yours, Reid. I've been yours since the day you caught me in the hallway after my run. I just didn't know it." Phoenix admits to him.
Reid groans, squeezing her thigh before he moves behind her and wrap his arms around her waist and snuggles closer to.
"Oh, that's so not fair. Why'd you have to get me worked up like that?" She said frustrated.
Reid chuckles into her back. "The feeling's mutual, babe."
She took a deep breath, breathing in him and felt herself become calm. She falls asleep in his arms.
The first week of college was definitely not boring. But she didn't get any more visions and for that she was thankful. She and Reid got into a groove, most times after their classes, they'd meet up for lunch or study dinners.
As the first week turned into the second in third, however, her time with Reid became low. They've only been able to catch up on sleep together, and not the fun kind of sleep together. Which she knows is normal when getting involved with a new school year but she misses that intimacy of being connected to Reid.
Reid decided to that being a Business major would help him, take over his father's business but she doesn't really think he really enjoys it. But she can't say anything because she knows it's something he's an heir to and needs to know how and what the responsibilities are.
After two hours of studying psychology with Emma, they separated and she found a computer in the back to do some research.
She studied the Salem Witch Trials in Massachusetts which began in Feburary 1692 until May 1693. Most of the 22 that were accused where women. No surprise, but most of the cases didn't even seem to actually have real witches and most didn't seem to have adequate proof.
She went to Google and searched for New York Witch Trials and clicked enter. Not many results but she found an article from an NYU student Thesis.
She clicked on it and started to read.
"Most people believed that the Salem Witch Trials only happened in Massachusetts; well
that's not true. We had our own Witch Trials right in the heart of New York City. A women
by the name of Charlotte Rose was burned at the stake in Central Park on Halloween night
for what was alleged as she practiced in the art of witch craft. Not much is known about
Charlotte Rose. When her daughter showed no signs of the craft, she stayed with a neighbor
after her mother's demise.
Whether, she actually possessed such powers has yet to be seen. But it also begs the question,
is witch craft really real or an excuse we came up with to punish others for a wrong doing or
because they might have been different than average. Was Charlotte just a women scorned by
a lover?"
So, her ancestor's name was Charlotte Rose. It's a very pretty name. I wonder what happened before than to cause her to be burned at a stake. Her vision only permitted her to say that she blamed a man
for her situation, and she never confirmed or denied the claim either.
"Who's Charlotte Rose?" Spoke a voice from behind her.
She jumped in her seat before whipping her head around. She let out a breath. "Oh, it's you."
Gil grabbed a seat and pulled it over to where she was seating. "Yeah, sorry to scare you."
"It's okay. A heart attack is good for you." Phoenix quipped before she closed out of the article.
"So, who's Charlotte Rose? Because I'm pretty sure our class assignment is to study about Pearl Harbor."
"Well, seeing as The Salem Witch Trials was your favorite part of history, I felt I wasn't properly knowledgeable about the subject. And while I was researching I found out they had their own witch trial here in New York. Charlotte Rose was the accused and prosecuted." Phoenix explained.
"That's an interesting fact. I had no idea they had a witch trial in New York but it makes sense." Gil replied. "Salem was the catalyst."
"Very true. Unfortunately, there isn't much known about her except for she died on All Hallows Eve." Phoenix said making her voice take on a spooky tone at the end.
"Isn't that what they call irony?" Gil asked rhetorically.
She laughed nodding.
"So I haven't seen you outside of class a lot." Gil stated.
"Yeah, I've been busy. Between classes, studying and sleeping I haven't even really spent time with Reid."
"Doesn't he spend nights in your room?" He questioned.
Phoenix stared at him. "Mostly. How'd you know that?"
"I've seen him go into your room sometimes late at night, so I figured you guys spend time together."
"Sleeping isn't my idea of spending time together. Between the both of us, we have our plates full with classes and homework that the only time we can spend together is while asleep."
"That doesn't sound too fun." Gil said.
"Well, this is college, it can't all be fun." Phoenix replied.
Phoenix put her books in her messenger bag and stood up.
"You seem in need of some fun. How about we walk around the campus and quiz each other on who knows more about the history?" Gil suggests.
Phoenix is intrigued. "Okay you're on."
Gil directs them out of the library and towards the quad area.
"Okay, so the school was founded in 1754." He started off their little game.
"But back then it was called King's College after King George II of England." Phoenix chimed in.
"The named was changed to Columbia to mark the U.S. need of patriotic freedom."
"This is also the second location the school's had, as it used to be on Madison Avenue which it was there for 50 years in 1897."
They walked out of the Low Library.
"This Library was the first used as the main Library until 1934." Phoenix started.
"It was made after an Athenian agora. In fact the Low Library is architecturally based off Roman classic style." Gil added.
They made their way down the steps towards the College Walk. Phoenix stopped at the top and looked down.
"This is a nice replica. Still pretty to see but the real thing was amazing." Phoenix sighed at the memory.
"You went to Rome?" Gil asked her.
"Yeah, this past summer with Reid and our friends. It was a graduation present from our parents. It's even more breathtaking in person trust me. Nothing else can compare when you soak up history being right there." Her eyes kind of glaze over in a happy memory.
"No, nothing can compare being right in the middle of experiencing history." Gil looked at her.
Phoenix glanced over at Gil and found herself getting lost into his eyes. There something about them that seem so familiar. Like she stared into them before a long time ago. She felt herself lean in towards him. Being pulled by something she couldn't name before she caught herself.
"Um, I need to get back to my dorm." Phoenix gripped the strap of her bag.
"I'm sorry. I know you have a fiancé and I'm not trying to come in between you two." Gil put his hands in his pocket.
"It's not your fault. I just have to go." Phoenix turned quickly made her way back to her dorm.
A/N: So if you've been wondering where I've been? That is a good question. I'm sorry I had to leave this story for a while. I lost my passion in it and my ideas weren't up to par with what I wanted. But know it's back and I promise to keep updating until I've completed this story. I've found my passion again and I'm excited for what left in store for Phoenix and Reid this year. Hope you haven't given up on me or this story!
So I hope you enjoyed this chapter and review me your opinion. I know it's a little short than the other chapters but hey what can you do.
Give me all criticism.
XOXO,
BellaRosa A.K.A. Chae
