Chapter 4 – Food for Thought
A snarl ripped from the oldest saber's throat he flung himself forward just as Zeke did. His jaws wrapped around the slender scruff hanging onto Zeke's neck catching him just as he barely missed the edge. Oscar held on tight despite the shrill yelp erupting Zeke's throat below him as he hit the side of the cliff. He caught him. But his victory was short lived as his paw slipped. Zeke's weight brought him down and his eyes widened. Suddenly, large jaws Lenny wrapped around his own scruff. By instinct, the flesh between his head and shoulders tensed up but was forced to relax when Lenny began tugging on him allowing Oscar to regain his footing.
Blooming with adrenaline and determination, Lenny managed to help pull both brothers to safety. Although Zeke was only half the weight of Oscar; Oscar did not like being within the middle of a tug of war game. Once his claws found land, he pulled his youngest brother up. His brother was dead weight and he didn't release him until he was a far yards from the chasm. He finally let out a breath and dropped the smallest tiger from his jaws. Oscar let out a breath he hadn't known he was holding and swallowed thickly. Lenny was practically forcing his weight onto Zeke's shoulder in a near defeated sense of affect while the smaller saber breathed heavily with his talons gripping into the snow. Other than being shaken up, Zeke was fine. Lenny was fine. Oscar, himself, was fine.
They had all survived a boiling hot extinction.
Coming back to reality from the shock and the adrenaline lowering within the fibers of his being, Oscar would move towards his brothers. He would give them both quick nudges forward, giving them both a sign of affection…It wasn't much, but they understood. "Lets go. Get away from here." He replied numbly and began to move in the direction of the far off tree-line.
The two younger brothers took a glance at each other. Lenny quickly ran his eyes over their younger brother before both brothers followed after the oldest.

A couple of hours went by since they were nearly devoured by molted rock from underneath the ice. Lenny's hazel eyes stared towards the tree-line, the target of their destination. Where there were trees, there was inhabitants living within the trees. The thought of a possible food source caused the large boned tiger to salivate in anticipation.
The brothers stared intently at the body in the snow. The flesh was nearly frozen, but the half-eaten Gazelle would satisfy their hunger pains. The trio had stumbled upon the corpse rather instantly. As Zeke and Lenny began to stuff their maws with the remains, Oscar held off his hunger and gazed around wearily. There was another scent within the air, another scent of a saber. But it was rather faded. If the brothers had crossed into another pack's territory, they would have already been chased out, or worse. They couldn't afford to be attacked.
"Hey, Oscar, Aren't you gonna eat? Better hurry or Lenny will eat it all." Zeke's muffled tone sliced through his thoughts in which he was partially grateful for.
The stressed saber said nothing as he moved to Zeke's side to eat. He bit through the flesh with ease although it was more stale than it should have been. But if he wasn't so hungry, if his brothers weren't so hungry, they wouldn't have eaten it. But this corpse was food none the less. The oldest continued to eat, though his ears listened closely to what was around them despite the overly obnoxious chewing of his brothers. After snacking a bit, Oscar left without a word.
"Zeke, where are you going?" Lenny asked once lifting his head with curiosity and weariness beaming through his hazel gaze.
"Ree-lax, I'm just gonna go explorin' for a bit. I'm soooo bored, you have no idea how hard this is for me. Sitting. Doing nothing while Oscar tells us to wait." The youngest brother groaned as his ears swiveled in the direction that he aimed to travel in.
"Exactly, Oscar said to wait. Are you asking for Oscar to rip your tail off?" Lenny warned as he pulled his heavy frame to perch upon his haunches. The oldest brother had left, possibly to scout the area and of course, Lenny would be in charge. At random times of the day, Oscar would go off alone. It was normal.
"Maybe, But your tail will also be ripped off because you let me run off." Zeke attempted an intimidating smirk before he turned and swiftly bounded off into the frozen brush.
Lenny blinked in sudden realization of his little brother's words, a snarl rumbled out of him as he trotted off after Zeke. There was no way, he was letting the kitten get away with that one.
The slender saber wandered through the snow as he purposely kicked through it. He let the snow hit his pelt as he rubbed against the frozen plants. Living at Half Peak, there were never any plants to play with. Just rock and dust. Even the snow that landed on the rocks and cliffs made dust. Just boring rock. Although, Zeke had created the game "Pass the Rock," He had always wished for some plants.
Rubbing up against the greenery, Zeke would walk past a small low hanging pine when suddenly a ball of snow hit him directly in the face. Naturally, the saber would shake his head to free the wet snow from his eyes, but just as he was free, another ball of snow pelted him in the face once more.
"Hey, what tha?!"
There was an eruption of laughter above him. He pawed at the snow and peered up with squinted eyes. Two identical rodents in stripes laughed in hysteria at Zeke whose gaze turned into a glare. The smallest saber would quickly pivot himself from the snow towards them and take a swipe at the branch of the pine. Due the small height of the tree and the added impact of the big cat, it leaned causing the two rodents to roll right on out onto the snow.
"You two are dead!" Zeke snarled in excitement for the fact that he not only get to get a thrill of a hunt, but also, he was the one that found LIVE food. Score one for the little brother! He launched himself after the two retreating rodents. They swiveled and curved in their own laughter and taunts at the hungry saber that was right upon their tails.
The only thing that was upon Zeke's mind was the hysterical expressions upon his older brother's faces when he brought back not only one annoying rat, but two. At this thought, Zeke could hardly handle the excitement. His jaws opened wide as he made a dive for either one considering how close he was to chowing down. Both of the rodents screamed in actual terror.
His teeth clattered against each other as he only managed to catch air and a mouth full of snow. Zeke let out a snarl of frustration. Suddenly, he was caught in surprise as a much large being rammed into him followed by a roar. Zeke rolled a bit caused by the impact. Pain racked his body and he had little time to react to what was happening. The smaller saber hit a dead log roughly. Before he had time to gather what was exactly happening, he was pinned with sharpened spikes against his neck. The green orbs would widen in fear as he stared up at another saber that had him pinned to the snowy ground.
Wait a minute.
"D-diego?"
