JPOV

It's been a week. A whole week since I've seen Bella. She's too busy with her new friend. I can't help but notice how hesitant he is towards her in my presence. He keeps a good metre away from her when I'm in the room. Bella seems to be upset by this, but I like it. I don't like him touching Bella. Would it be wrong to say I don't like seeing Bella happy this way? I think she could be happier with me.

I sighed and waited for the elevator to stop. I was going to visit Bella today, whether he was there or not. I stepped out of the bright elevator and immediately heard voices. As I walked closer to her door, the voices got louder. His voiceespecially, I ground my teeth together. He was laughing so hard, I was wondering if he was even bothering to breathe. I rolled my eyes and knocked at her door. The voices got quieter and the door creaked open, Edward's face poking through the crack. He immediately frowned, opened the door, and took two steps back.

"Maybe I have the wrong room." I spat, my voice dripping sarcasm. I glared at him until Bella approached the door.

"Hey, Jake, come in," She smiled. I couldn't help but smile back, like she just brightened my day with her simple motion. I walked through the door and shot another glare at Edward. He smiled at me quickly, clearly anxious. He sat on the couch opposite from Bella's usual seat and folded his hands together.

"Would you like a soda, Jake?" Bella called from the kitchen.

"Sure, Bells" I said, still not removing my gaze from Edward. When I knew Bella couldn't hear, I gathered up my confidence and leaned forward in my seat.

"Stay away from Bella." I growled. He instantly frowned. He stared at the entrance of the kitchen for a good, long minute. He turned his head back to me, and looked at me in the eye. He stared for another minute, till he solemnly nodded. I smirked; this was way easier than I thought it would be. At that moment, Bella came back through the door with two sodas in her hand. She went to Edward first, who quietly thanked her, and then she handed the last soda to me. I thought I might play it up a bit.

"Thanks, Bells," I pulled her into a hug, while she giggled. She then went and sat next to Edward, I grimaced. He noticed her choice of seating and moved a small inch away from her. He locked his eyes with hers, and they gazed at each other for what seemed like eternity for me. He finally got up and turned to Bella again.

"I should go now…" He walked towards the door.

Bella frowned and got up and stood in front of him. "Don't." She pleaded with those deep chocolate brown eyes. "Stay a little longer, you only got here."

It ripped my heart apart to see her beg that way for him to stay; she never did that for me, I realized as my heart gave an agonizing cry. At the same time a triumphant look flashed in his emerald eyes, but was soon returned to the hard emotionless glaze. I was hoping with all my will that he would keep his promise and stay away from my Bella. I did not like the -- wait! Did I just say my Bella? What was wrong with me?

"It's been three hours Bella." Edward replied with a humourless smirk, breaking my train of thought. "I know time just passes too quickly for my liking when I'm with you, but I really do have to go. Maybe we can meet up later."

Bella frowned but followed him to the door. Before she closed the door, she leaned towards him and whispered something into his ear that made him half smile. He turned and disappeared into the elevators.

Uhh! What did she just say to him? Did she not know what it did to my heart to see her with him?

"Well, I'm going to work," She picked her books off the table. "I'll see you later Jake." She walked out the door, closing it behind her, while I sat on the couch like an idiot still staring after her.

I watched Bella hum to herself as she fetched a cake she had bought earlier. She was holding it, beaming at me, as she walked into the room. I was not the type of guy to stare off at girls, but when Bella walked in the room, I couldn't help but stare. She was so beautiful, her blue top, which was sleeveless, reached to the middle of her thighs. Her endless toned legs were darkened by tights, along with a matching shade of blue flats. She must have noticed me staring at her and blushed furiously, before tripping on her feet. I got up immediately to save her from falling. Once I had my arms around her, she accidentally plopped the cake onto my shirt. It didn't matter to me how many shirts of mine she ruined, if I got to hold her in my arms for any amount of time, I would trade that for anything.

Once she was stable, I reluctantly loosened my grip on her waist and let out the loudest laugh I had ever managed to create. She blushed again and ran quickly into her room, rummaging through her drawers. I kept laughing as she brought me a large, white t-shirt. I started taking off my shirt while she covered her eyes and giggled. I quickly changed, and when the coast was clear, I saw that one chocolate brown eye had been peeking. I grinned at her as she quickly covered her eyes again.

"You can look now, Bella." I smiled at her as she dropped her hands. "Not that you weren't already looking…" She blushed again, and headed into the kitchen to drop off the cake filled paper towels. I heard a knock on the door, and opened it to see Bella's 'friend' Jacob. When I was with Bella, I usually forgot she had a boyfriend. I took in Jacob's appearance and stepped back, letting him in, hoping he wouldn't be angry. If looks could kill, I told myself as I noticed his scrutinizing.

Once he was seated, and Bella went to fetch drinks, he leaned forwards.

"Stay away from Bella." He growled. I stared at him for a long while, trying to hide my disappointment. In these past few days with Bella, I felt happy, complete even. Leaving would mean leaving my half. I wanted to be with Bella. I needed Bella. She was so full of life, happiness, and she was smart and beautiful. I wasn't sure I was strong enough to leave her. I looked towards the kitchen. Maybe I was flattering myself, thinking she wanted to be with me too. She seemed happy with me. But I couldn't steal Jacob's girlfriend. It was wrong, and I knew it. The most gentlemanly thing to do would be to leave. It was the best for Bella, Jacob, but not me. I knew I wouldn't be very happy once she was out of my life.

I turned to look back at Jacob. I knew my life wouldn't be the same. This one week with Bella, I couldn't help but like her, or more. But she wasn't mine; I had to remind my self. I nodded once to Jacob, telling him I would agree to the decision that would probably ruin my life.

Bella came back and handed me a soda. I stared at the bottle cap when she came back and sat next to me. I subtly moved away from her, noticing Jacob's grimace. But I regretted it instantly. I wanted to be close to her. I decided I should leave soon. I looked at Bella for what seemed like ages as she looked back. I tried to memorize her perfect face, and her deep brown eyes. I got up and headed for the door.

"I should go now…" I lied, when all I wanted to do was stay with her, forever.

"Don't, stay a little longer, you only got here." Bella pleaded.

I couldn't help but feel joy ripple through every cell of my body as a sorrowful look appeared on her face. I hated Bella feeling sad, but the fact that she was upset by my leaving made me realize that she liked me too. Maybe not the way I did, but still, it was a start.

"It's been three hours Bella." I reminded her after I glanced at the clock above her fireplace. It sure didn't feel like three hours, but that's what the clock said. "I know time just passes too quickly for my liking when I'm with you, but I really do have to go. Maybe we can meet up later." I hoped that Jake would not take that as a promise, after all, I was only being a gentleman letting her know that I still wanted to be friends with her.

Bella walked with me to the door. She leaned in close to my ear. "Call me if you have time," she whispered. Her cool breath tickled my skin and I half smiled. I turned towards the elevator, away from her face, recognizing that this would be the first day of the end.
