No Sleep Tonight

Chapter 4

'Stupid. Stupid. Stupid!" Bella berated herself. She was not supposed to kiss the wolf – hug maybe – but not kiss him! Even if it was on the cheek!

Groaning Bella leaned against the counter almost elbow deep in soapy water as she washed the dishes from the nights meal. Bella shook her head ponytail swaying back and forth with the motion. Her inability to sustain her self control was astonishing even to herself.

She snorted at the irony. The human wasn't able to control herself around a wolf who burst into a giant wolf whenever he became angry. Bella cocked her head, looking out at the night sky though the window, though now that she thought about it, Paul hadn't phased nearly as much as he used to at the drop of a hat. His control was by no means perfect, no one's was but it had evened out once Rachel had gotten a hold of him. And because of the messy break up the potential for Paul to return to his previous state of attitude and little control was great.

Bella frowned down at the sudsy water. Pulling the plug to drain out the dirty water the woman cleaned her hands and ventured into the living room. Watching them all brought a small smile to her face that slowly turned sad as she noticed yet again that Paul had failed to stay for Pack Night.

Since the break up the large wolf hadn't been able to handle the room full of people, especially since half of them were couples. Pulling the hair tie from her hair, Bella sighed. It wasn't like she didn't understand Paul. It was just she missed him and though none of the others would openly admit it, Bell new that the rest of the pack missed their pack brother too.

The break up hadn't just affect Paul. It had affected them all. Every wolf. Every human.

Bella remembered the fight. The whole pack remembered the fight and it wasn't backs of the pack mind link either.

The eldest Black child hadn't even had the decency have the fight in private or even discuss it with Paul. No Rachel embarrassed, humiliated, and broke Paul's heart before the entire wolf pack, their mates, and family members in the know.

Rachel had been late to the Sunday barbeque that the pack did every week to allow time with family, friends and loved ones. None had thought anything about the lateness, there was no set time the gathering back or ended so it was a come as you please kind of thing. But when Rachel pulled up and stepped out of her car, the entire pack of wolves as one tensed and turned to her.

Bella had asked one of the wolves later on why they all had acted like that. Embry had answered, "She smelled like sex, another man, and satisfaction."

Bella had gasped when he said that, horrified that the woman would come straight from having sex with someone other than her boyfriend when she knew full well that most of people would be able to smell it on her.

Paul hadn't even begun to gather his words together before Rachel and simple said, "I'm leaving you."

Simple as that. Blunt, harsh, with no consideration what her actions would do to the man that loved her for two years.

An argument had ensured after that between the two that soon enough had everyone there backing Paul up. The fight last an hour before Rachel left. Hands thrown wide she had made her way back to her car with her parting words being the most crushing thing the woman could have said to someone like Paul

"How could a woman every love a man like you." Her words hadn't been spoken loud but not a single person had an illusion of them being something else.

Rachel Black hadn't just broken Paul Lahote's heart that day. She crushed his very person. Heart. Soul. Self confidence.

Bella remembered watching Paul that day reach into his pocket and pull out a box. The gasps that erupted when other caught on was almost deafening. Paul had walked over to Billy knelt before him and handed the little box to his would have been father-in-law.

When Billy had opened the black box to showcase the diamond engagement ring nestled in it, it hadn't taken anybody much thinking to know what Paul had been planning to do that day before Rachel ruined it all.

Ruined all for the sake of selfishness.

It physical hurt Bella that day to watch the strong if not a little tempered man go through something like that and Bella knew she wasn't the only one that it had hurt either. The entire pack hurt that day and for many days afterward.

Even now watching Paul unable to make himself interact with his brothers and family broke Bella's heart.

Shaking herself from such depressing thoughts, Bella grabbed her belongings –jacket for the cool weather and purse full of necessary things. She nodded to Sam on her way out the door, the knowing look the Alpha gave her let Bella know Sam at least had an idea that she wasn't going straight home.

Starting up the beast of a truck she loved so much, Bella backed out of the Uley driveway and headed in the opposite direction of Forks. There was nothing home to occupy her mind besides cleaning and since the Charlie's house was already being taken care of by Sue, there was no reason for her to do it can and knowing that sleep wouldn't come anytime soon, Bella drove down dark streets until she was pulling into the Lahote's drive.

If Paul couldn't force himself to spend time with half of the pack, Bella would do it herself.

Though now that she thought about it, Paul might not want her company either after what she did early. Sitting in park, Bella bit her lip debating with herself to get out and buck up or put the truck in reverse and bow out.

Watching the dully lit house, Bella took a deep breath and made a decision. She needed to buck up. No more bowing out.

Reviews:

Blueguju – No I have not answered this question before. I hope this chapter kinda explained what happened between the two. Um if not, a later chapter will probably have more details and things later. Let me know how you liked this chapter. Yeah I love Paul to death! Hopefully it will lead to more but I don't know. I'm kind of just winging it lol! Thank you for your review!

Lady AMS – hope you liked it!

DealiestdistractionRN – I thought about that earlier and when I read your review it got me thinking about. I just might do that. It would be entertaining to watch well read. Lol Thank you for your review!

Springbreakers – Thanks! Glad you followed!

Veronique24 – AWESOME! I'm so glad you said that, because I was kind of worried people would get confused and stuff. It really hard to write people and emotions. Thank you for your review and awesome words!

Esther Lahote withlock – I have updated and you and me both! I have no idea where it is going or where it will stop! Hope you love the unknown!

ArabellaWhitlock – I have updated and yes I like this couple two. Thank you!

Alice – Happy you liked the last hope this new one is to your liking.

Hawaiiangrl – yeah the Mike thing kind of just came from nowhere. But I felt like Mike would do good for the part and maybe could be that kind of person that steals a guys girl. I am happy you loved it and thought it was cute!

Guest – I would love a very of my own Paul, that would be amazing!

Vampirelove41 – Yeah, Paul doesn't strike me as the person to be shocked over a kiss but with the thing with Rachel and all I thought that Bella kissing him would take him by surprise. Besides who would think Bella the human would have the guts to kiss a guy out of the blue. Stand up to vampires and wolves sure but kiss a guy all by herself, nah. Slowly but surely Bella will wrap him around her finger and drag him out.

Crimson-Midnight-Moon – I am happy that you think that! Thank you
