The Intel Unit Chapter Four
Back at the shooting scene it was genuine chaos. Units from around the borough and citywide units were responding to the 10-13 that came from the radio. Within minutes of the broadcast on the radio, about 100 police officers were on scene from various different units including E.S.U./SWAT, other intel detectives, regular patrol cops, and regular detectives. A large crowd of civilians had formed and the scene was sealed off with blue police tape. Within that crowd were reporters, journalists, cameramen, and just ordinary civilians.
Inside the building, the Brooklyn South Intel Team was shattered as they had two officers shot with one in critical condition. Mario was severely hurt and needed help. "Where are the fucking paramedics central? Get them up here forthwith!" Sasuke exclaimed. "We're here!" yelled a paramedic. "A shit he is fucked up bad! Let's get him on the stretcher and work on him in the bus forthwith." The paramedic stated while looking at Mario's three gunshot wounds to his chest and leg wound. Another medic took a look at Sgt. Martin's arm but it turned out it was a graze wound from the bullet that past through Mario's body armor. Still he was taken to the hospital and checked out. "Okay guys let's move out. Sasuke ride with your partner. Norton go with the sergeant and I'll help with the escort!" The lieutenant gave his orders and the unit followed it as it was given. Lt. Stanley then went on the radio and told central the route for the hospital. "Central you ready for the route?" –Stanley "Yeah 10-4 k go with the info!" – Central. "Alright we're going from the shooting location to Ocean Ave then Ocean Ave to Empire Blvd over to Rogers Ave up to Clarkson Ave down to Kings County Hospital. You Read?" Central repeated the info and the Lt. confirmed it was accurate and away he went.
Officer Uchiha got into the ambulance with his partner while Officer Norton went with Sgt. Norton. Inside of the ambulance that was carrying Mario, Sasuke and his partner had a convo. "Your gonna be fine okay? Just hang in there, we will get you the help you need!" Sasuke said trying to comfort his partner. "You know Sasuke we were always good friends, not just co-workers man we were friends." "We ARE friends Mario! You will live and we will get the bastards who did this to you and take them down." Sasuke said with tears appearing in his eyes. "We enjoyed some great times while I was in this unit, closing cases and getting bad guys off the street. It was really fun man. This is different though, I was shot… three times… and I think… I'm going to …. DIEEE!..." Mario started to violently shake and blood started to pour out of his mouth while his eyes roll in the back of his head. "We are losing him! Shock paddles now!" EMT 1 exclaimed. "Charging! Charging! Ready!" - EMT 2. *Shock paddle hit Mario's chest* "Damn it's not working. We may lose him!" EMT 2 stated. "Charge the paddles again, We can't lose him this is my friend." Sasuke yelled with tears flowing down his face. "Charge again!" – EMT 1 "Ready!"- EMT 2 *Mario was hit by shock paddles* "Check the heart monitor! Look it's flatline!" The EMTs and Sasuke looked at the heart monitor and it indeed showed that Mario's heart had no activity in 5 mins. At that same time the ambulance arrived at Kings county hospital. A waiting trauma team opened the doors and saw the scene inside of the bus. The shock paddles were on the ground, blood was all over the floor, seats, EMTs and Sasuke. One of the EMTs yelled at the trauma team: "Get him into surgery and stop staring at me! Let's go you slow bastards!" The team transferred Mario from EMTs stretcher to their own and took him into a room where again they tried to bring him back to life, but they had no better luck. A doctor, an older man in his 50s came out and told Sasuke that "I'm sorry Officer but he has expired. I really regret bring this news to you. Pass it along to you boss and other officers please." Sasuke looked at the doctor and took his gun out and said: "WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU MEAN HIS DEAD?! THERE HAS TO BE SOMETHING YOU CAN DO TO HELP HIM! GO FUCKING HELP HIM YOU BASTARD!" The doctor, Dr. Rahman looked at Sasuke and calmly stated: "I'm sorry for your loss but it was not me that harmed him. Please let me go as I have done nothing wrong." Sasuke rationalized and looked at what he was doing. He held up a gun to an innocent man and this wasn't going to bring Mario back. Sasuke holstered his gun and let the doctor walk off into the hallway. Sasuke slouched himself against a wall and started t cry as other officers looked on. Meanwhile, Officer Norton and Sgt. Martin had arrived already and Martin was taken to surgery forthwith. It was 12:20am. Lieutenant Stanley ran into the hallway where Sasuke was sitting alone. The lieutenant looked at Sasuke and asked him about Mario. Sasuke looked up and simply said: "He's dead sir. He is fucking dead! They killed him!" Sasuke managed to say with tears and snot coming out of his nose. "We need to get those Akatsuki and Crip bastards ASAP. This is war" the lieutenant said with a very furious look on his face and with hatred in his heart. "We need to do this for your friend Sas, for Mario! We will get them." Down the hallway Sasuke and John heard a commotion. "Lieutenant! Lou! Lou!" shouted Norton. "How is Hernandez? Is he gonna make it? Norton is okay he is in surgery and ESU is guarding him." – Norton "He's dead Robert! They killed him! THEY FUCKING KILLED MY BEST BRO!" Sasuke yelled out. "Aww fuck, hang on guys I gotta make a call."
Norton said. Norton walked out of the hallway as more officers came in to support the intel unit who lost a man. Norton dialed a person only identified by the number 60101. "Password?" A robot male voice said. "LA LI LU LE LO" replied Norton. "Access Approved" -Strange voice. "Tell me what you got" the disguised voice spoke. "One of their men has died, P.O. Mario Hernandez. I call it a success. I hope you think the same after it was you who sent that tip to them after all." Norton said to the voice. "No this isn't good. It's wonderful, as long as we can wither down the intel unit we should be great. I assume the scene is crawling with cops?" the voice asked. "Yes, a lot of police officers and bosses we be there at the scene." Norton replied. "Good we will make a very pleasant surprise for the units there as you may know we can't leave any loose ends. The building will be destroyed by C4." The voice advised Norton. "Sir a lot of cops will die! We cant do this. Did Trevor and the crips have anything that led back to you?" Norton asked. "There is something there but I can't say what it is. But the leaders have spoken okay." The voice countered Norton. "Alright I will ring you after the destruction" Norton said then hung up the phone.
Back at the scene of the shooting, Chief Hall the chief of patrol was put in charge as the incident commander. While in the command post, the chief was directing and positioning units around the area. While the Chief of detectives was allocating personnel to finding Akatsuki and Crip members. About 20 detectives were already on scene along with hundreds of cops and two dozen bosses. Chief Hall walked out of the command post and took a look at the target building. "What a bad fucking night it is. First the rain now we have two officers shot with one likely." – Hall "Chief Hall sir! Phone for you!" – An officer inside of the post yelled to the chief. On the phone was the Intel Lt. advising on the officers' condition. "Chief Hall. Who is this?" –Hall. "It's Lt. Stanley, Brooklyn South Intel sir. One of my officers has expired, P.O. Mario Hernandez died sir. The other Sgt. Martin is in surgery for his wound. It is very sad chief. We need to send notifications to their families and advise the Intelligence Bureau C.O. to respond to the hospital." – Stanley. "Alright Lieutenant, I am sorry for your loss and I hope that your sergeant pulls through okay. Listen we have about 20 detectives working on the case and around a hundred officers around the scene in total. Your Bureau C.O. has been notified and he should be responding directly to the hospital. We are sending a car to each house to transport family members to the hospital. Okay?" – Hall. "Thank You sir, We appreciate it and any support we can get will definantly help out in finding these criminals." – Stanley "Okay, will do I gotta go now, I'm in charge of the scene so I get work to do. Don't worry we will assist you in anyway possible. Out." – Hall said and then hung up the phone. Hall was greeted with stares from cops in the command post who overheard his side of the conversation. He looked onto them and said "An officer has been murdered in that building! We need to do everything we can to find out whatever there is to know about the Crip gang here and this Akatsuki gang as well. Detectives do we have anything yet? Look everywhere, check databases including FBI, NYPD, out of state agencies. Again a cop died in there and I need you're A game tonight guys, COME ON!" – Hall said with a heavy heart and obvious anger and annoyance in his voice. He looked at his watch and it read 12:30am.
Chief Hall picked up his radio and thought he needed more help so he called for it. "Chief of Patrol central!" "Chief of Patrol, proceed." "I need a level 3 mobilization in regards to the shooting. I need 1 sergeant and 8 cops respond from each precinct except the 7-0 pct as they already have cops on scene. Furthermore, I need Boro nightwatch detectives to respond, Additional Intel detectives, Homicide detectives, Major case squad to respond on and off duty as well. We have a large task central and we need all the help we can get. Put the mobilization point on Ocean Ave between Cortelyou road and Foster Ave that is enough space for the responding unit to come to stage." – Hall finished his message and out down his radio. "10-4 Chief. I will make the required notifications and start up those additional units."- Central. With that mobilization came 12 patrol sergeants and 96 more cops along with about 50 more detectives to investigate the incident. Within minutes, sirens were blaring from different directions around the neighborhood and it was truly a sight to behold. Civilians and reporters alike were mesmerized by the sight of the cops responding in different cars and vans.
A reporter from NBC news, Eddie Santana was at the scene and reported on what was going on: "Breaking news here in Brooklyn, We are live at the a scene where two officers have been shot in what the police are calling a blazing gun battle between the police and known criminals inside of 1818 Newkirk Ave.*Reporter points at the building involved and the cameraman zooms in* We are hearing reports from kings county hospital that the officers involved in the shooting were taken there for treatment and unfortunately one has lost their life in the battle. The NYPD isn't releasing that officer's information or any of the officers' info but the fact that they are assigned to the borough of Brooklyn South and that's as far as we have gotten. Apparently, the officers involved were on a stakeout of the location when they came under fire and entered the building which is where the majority of the gunfire took place. As you can see a very heavy police response to this with multiple detectives on the scene, over a hundred police officers and dozens of bosses, many of high rank. Once again a very active scene here and our condolences to the fallen officer's family. We are currently awaiting the arrival of the Police Commissioner Bratton who will update us on who was involved and what they are looking for. That's it for now, this is Eddie Santana for NBC news live at the shooting scene at 1818 Newkirk Ave."
The chief of the Intelligence Bureau, Thomas Galati arrived at the hospital to greet the Lieutenant and the remaining cops he had. The chief was led into the hospital by another cop and was briefed by the NYPD's chief surgeon. He walked down the hallway where the Intel unit was gathering and was greeted with salutes from the unit and other officers in the hallway. "At ease officers. I need all officers to leave the hallway except for the Intel unit involved." Officers not involved quickly exited the hallway and left the shattered Intel unit with the chief. "Chief Galati, One of my officers…." Lt. Stanley began but was cut off. "I know lieutenant, it's very troubling and I came down to give you my support in this very time." Galati assured Stanley. "Thank You sir. It's a real morale booster to see you down here the men appreciated as well."- Stanley. "No problem, Lou. The families are en route to the hospital right now and should be pulling up anytime lieutenant. Are you ready to talk to them? Or should I have the detectives assigned to the case do it? It is you choice and I won't judge you in any way for it." – Galati asked obviously taking into account what happened and the Lieutenant state of mind. "It'll be tough as Hernandez has younger siblings and a girlfriend but I think I will be able to handle it thanks." The lieutenant assured the chief. "Okay but listen I have some more unfortunate news to tell you. As per standard operating procedures, you know there will be an IAB (Internal Affairs Bureau) shooting investigation. The IAB shooting team is waiting for you guns so I will need your firearm and the guns of everyone in your squad. Also, because of your loss I will have to draft in two more officers from different Intel units to your squad. I will have the transfers sent to your squad room for your approval after the investigation and funeral of your officer." Galati informed the Lieutenant. "Alright Boss, I want to get these bastards sir ASAP are there any leads?" Stanley asked inquisitively. "No unfortunately there haven't been. Detectives from the Boro Nightwatch, 7-0 squad, Bklyn North, Manhattan South and Staten Island Intel teams, Gang, Narcotics and warrant sections are all doing work to find out who did this okay?" – Galati. "I think we need the Ghosts for this one chief. Is it possible to activate them? The approval can only come from you sir." Stanley asked looking for some hope. "I don't know lieutenant we shall explore options later just hand over your weapons and we will avenge your officer's death." – Galati. The Intel Unit surrendered their guns and the chief walked off into the hallway and left as the Intel Unit waited to be spoken to be IAB sergeants and the detectives assigned to the case. Time is 12:50am.
Back at the shooting scene, Snake was already there and was in the middle of reporting to the duty captain accounting for all cops responding and giving them assignment as well. Snake only hoped that his name was on the sheet and his cover was maintained by Otacon. "Next P.O. step up!" The captain shouted. "State your Rank, Name, Shield number and Command" – Captain. "P.O. Cooper, Shield #27010, Brooklyn South Task Force" – Snake stated. "Alright P.O. Cooper go upstairs to apt #6E and guard the crime scene. Cops are going off duty because their tours have already finished and are waiting for relief so hurry up and get out of my face." The captain said with a nasty, foul look on his face. Snake was surprised that he got that assignment as it is what he wanted. He left from the duty captain and walked towards the building. While walking he took out his phone and called Otacon. "Otacon I'm here at the scene. I was given access to the apartment where the shooting occurred right off the bat." Snake said in an excited but professional tone. "Good Snake, hurry on up there and gather whatever details you can get on Akatsuki and even the Patriots. Good luck Snake and update me in another hour." Otacon told Snake and hung up the phone and went back to researching about the Akatsuki and the Crip relationship together. Snake went up to the shooting apartment and was amazed at the blood and gore of the scene but he immediately remembered he had a job to do and went in and never looked back.
