Rio: Megan's Origins

Chapter 3: New life

Lance and Shen were flying for 2 hours straight. Little Megan was on lance back and she was sleeping like an angel, Lance would check on her every 10 minutes just to make sure she is okay.

"You will be a great dad to her…brother" Shen said to his brother. Lance just smiled.

"Alright here we are" Lance said as he and Shen landed on a branch, next to it there was a hollow entrance. Lance picked up Megan from his back and he placed her gently on the ground.

"I will go inside come with Megan when you see the signal ok? I want to surprise her…" Lance said to his brother who nodded. Shen picked Megan in his wings and waited outside Lance's hollow for the signal.

"Honey I am home!" Lance exclaimed, not long after he was greeted by a tight hug and a passionate kiss from his wife and a love attack by his 2 sons.

"Daddy!" the chicks yelled happily as they were jumping on their father's back.

"Hey, Clint, Leo I missed you too!"

"I thought you would be back home tomorrow morning!" the female hyacinth macaw said. She was a little shorter than her husband, unlike Lance, she had brown eyes, a little lighter blue feathers and the characteristic yellow color behind her beak.

"Yeah but I ran into something or should I say someone that you would love to meet Laura"

"Hmm…. Alright Show me!"

"SHEN COME IN!" Lance called his brother. Laura just smiled.

"I think I know your brother…"

"I know but you don't know what he is carrying in his wings!" Lance exclaimed and Laura raised her right eyebrow in confusion. At this moment Shen entered the hollow, Laura and Lance went to him,

Shen looked at his brother who nodded. Shen revealed little Megan who was sleeping on his wings. Laura was left speechless.

"I found her on a tree hollow, in an area where smugglers caught everyone this morning! It's seems like they forgot about her. If I didn't picked her up she would starve to death" Lance exclaimed as he picked little Megan from his brother's wings.

"She looks like… Us"

"But she is not our species. She belongs to a kind we all believed extinct for years…" Lance whispered the last sentence to Laura who was still surprised.

"You are not talking about what I think you do right?"

"She is a spix…." This left Laura speechless…. The last time she saw a spix macaw was 13 years ago. And that was her friend who lost her parents from smugglers.

"I once knew a spix…" Laura said and she shed a small tear. This didn't go unnoticed from Lance thought.

"Who?" Lance asked softly as he wiped Laura's tears with his left wing.

"3 years after I lost my family… And before I got caught by Nat's father I met a spix macaw girl at the same age as me… she also lost her family! It didn't take much time for me and her to become best friends, we were doing everything together and that was until… Until I got caught. She tried to free me but it was useless, none of us knew back then how to open a lock! I told her to run… She didn't want to but I managed to persuade her to go just in time before Nat's father pick me up… I never saw her again after that." Laura was now crying Lance kissed her for comfort.

"Hey it's alright… I am sure that she is out there! Probably with a family to care for her. But… What about her?"

"My friend?"

"No…. the little one… what are we going to do with her?"

"I think we should keep her and raise her with our boys, they will be happy to have a little sister. Besides I think I can honor my friend like that." Laura exclaimed as she lovely picked Megan in her wings and looked at her sons who were playing with their uncle Shen.

"I almost forgot… I already gave her a name when I found her!" Laura looked at her husband confused.

"How did you name her?"

"Megan…" Lance said, Laura looked at him and gave him a small kiss on his beak.

"That's a beautiful name my love. Now let's go and put our three kids to bed"

"Hey kids! We would like you to meet someone!" Lance exclaimed, Clint and Leo stopped playing with their uncle immediately and looked at their father in confusion.

"Who?" they said in union

"Your new sister!" Lance said and revealed a sleeping Megan. Both Leo and Clint were left speechless as they were looking their new sister.

"Alright kids, I think it's time for both of you to sleep just like your sis does its late." Laura exclaimed.

"We have a sister?" Leo mumbled and he followed his brother who was still surprised yet confused to bed. Lance picked Leo first and placed him to a small nest, then he picked Clint too and placed him next to his elder brother. Laura then placed little Megan next to her new brothers. Clint hugged her with his left wing.

"Welcome to the family sis" Clint said lovingly and closed his eyes. Lance and Laura were looking at their now 3 kids and slept close to them for the night. Shen left the hollow and went to his own which was 5 meters away from his brother's hollow.

Little Megan has found a loving family which will help her to grow up intro a strong and fearless woman.

And that's for this chapter. Megan was now introduced to her new family. I am thinking of having a time skip a year or so for the next chapter! This story will not be big… We still have 3 more chapters before it ends thought. It's an origins story anyway.
