Chapter 4: What Can You Do in Battle Training?

"Over here!" Lemillion goes over to his partner Suneater, a Power Deshi like him dressed in a large white hoodie that masks him in the darkness of the night. They go to an alleyway where a small, dead body lies.

"What is it?" asks Lemillion as he closes in. Seeing the body he cringes. "A dead teenager…let's bring him to the police station so they can identify."

"Uh huh." The saddened one goes over and lifts the body over his shoulder. "This might be connected to that missing kids' case a few years ago."

"It's never that convenient." The two make their way to the police station.

The Following Morning…

At 8 a.m. the students in UA take in their morning classes. Like normal schools, they take regular lessons as if it was no different than another high school. Some force themselves to pay attention while the others either actually take notes due to genuine interest or daydream out of boredom.

It's all the lot of them can do until lunch rolls around at eleven, where they take in and enjoy the delicious meals cooked by the Cooking Hero Lunch Rush. "I'm the hero of my own story!" he says occasionally.

Afterward, things really pick up in their attention span, for as soon as it hits the afternoon the actual Hero Training begins. "LIKE NORMAL I AM HERE!" In steps All Might into class, ready and able for training these students.

"Whoa. All Might really is teaching here!"

"His text is so much different than ours," speaks Yaoyorozu, breaking the fourth wall.

"Today I hope you all are ready for this!" All of the students get excited for that. "HERO BASIC TRAINING – THE CLASS THAT'LL PUT YOU THROUGH ALL SORTS OF SPECIAL TRAINING, TO MOLD, FOLD AND BOLD YOU INTO A TRUE HERO! So let's just step right into it; BATTLE TRAINING!

"And for that, you'll need these!" Four cabinets extend out from the left wall of the room. Each cabinet has five drawers openings, the top of the first cabinet starting at 1 going to the bottom of the last being 20.

"In accordance with your Quirk registry and the special request forms you filled out before being admitted, your costumes have been created based on your designs!" All twenty go up and grab their costume suitcases. Izuku walks away with his own stuff, smiling with "ONCE YOU'RE DONE CHANGING HEAD OVER TO GROUND BETA!"

After getting the package with his uniform, Izuku goes off to change into his costume. Though as he checks it out, he notices it's just the color scheme of emerald he asked for and got from his mother.

Flashback…

"Let's see…" Izuku goes about scanning through a sheet he has written on. Detailed in the paper are notes about his superhero costume. Most of the description involves allowing him to use his powers to their fullest without burning his flesh.

"Maybe I should have gloves that can protect my hands since they'll be doing the most electric manipulation." He writes this down. "Ooh! And something to fly with. It's gotta be durable, easy to store away and easy to magnetize." He then proceeds to draw out a design for it.

"Izuku!" Inko comes into the living room. She holds up a black, short-sleeved jumpsuit. An emerald circle with a lightning bolt through is on the chest of it. The legs contain similar colored lines with the pants having blue pockets. "I made it just in time!"

"Wait… isn't that-"

"I got a look at your notes while you were asleep, and sewed this for you."

Izuku smiles at the gesture of kindness. "Mom, you didn't have to do that."

"Of course I did. I always fixed your father's uniform, so I'll do the same for you." She then takes out a face mask.

"Mom…" The two hug it out.

End Flashback…

Izuku moves aside the main jumpsuit that he simply sent over and checks over the rest, including the gloves, boots, and mask. Though checking, he gets a note next to his manual. "Dear Midoriya, while creating your costume, we came across problems building this circular thing you mentioned. We will be sending over another more simpler model later."

'Damn it… How hard is it to make six fireproof, metal panels for flight and combat?' He sighs getting ready to dress up.

"Your appearance is very important kids. Look alive, because from now on, you're all HEROES!" Within the ten minutes they get for changing, everyone starts coming out ready for training. Ranging from flashy to cool, and the occasional scary – Bakugo – they're all proper heroes now.

Bakugo wears a black, sleeveless skin tight shirt with a black K inside of an orange B on the front, with darkened pants. On his forearms are black fingerless gloves that stretch to his padded elbows, the same pads that exist on his knees, with the same KB symbol. He also wears dark orange and green boots with a face mask that exposes only his eyes and below, covering even his hair perfectly, but also exposing weird ears.

The last person arrives, this one being Izuku himself. He wears the jumpsuit with a royal blue utility belt, a white face mask with white, one-way lens that covers his freckled cheeks that also have blue goggles attached to the top, blue shoes for movement and matching green and blue gloves. Over it, he wears a trench coat colored dark green and black on the outside and the same royal blue shade as the rest of his costume on the inside.

He runs up towards the rest of his classmates waving. The others take note, including Uraraka. "Whoa, Deku! That's a nice style." She turns a bit red seeing how cool he is.

"Ochako?" He takes a good look at her and turns his eyes to her face seeing how close to her skin her suit is. "That suit is…"

"I know. I wasn't specific and just wanted to focus on curing my nausea." She sounds embarrassed, but inside she feels happy that he's noticing her for some reason.

"The hero course is great!" says Mineta, his cape dramatically flapping in the background like he said something cool. Yaoyorozu, dressed to show as much skin as morally possible, holds a hand to her mouth in disgust.

"IS EVERYONE HERE?" All Might looks around counting up the number of students before him. "Good! Now, today's training shall be based on combat. The situation is this; two teams of two students will face each other. The first two will be villains guarding a nuclear bomb inside a building, while the latter two are heroes trying to stop them."

"Why are we doing this type of exercise inside?" asks Asui curiously.

"What are we being graded on?" asks Iida.

"What are the criteria for success?" This is Yaoyorozu.

"Can I go all out?" This comes from Bakugo.

"Whoa, one at a time! My Quirk isn't superhearing!" He holds his hand out to try and quell their responses, before taking out a cheat sheet. "Why this type of exercise is done is to deliver two points across. I'm sure all of you are used to seeing villain attacks on your way home from school or while just minding your own business and you expect that stopping villains would be as simple as we make it look. While not only is that NOT true, that is only one half of the type of villains you'll come across. The most dangerous criminals are the smart ones, those who blend in the crowd outside of the viewing public, who you will run into inside a building."

Bakugo grits his teeth at that, gloves making a noise as he clutches. "Another point is, according to Aizawa, to have you practice your abilities against your fellow students. In a confined environment, you will be knowingly using your Quirks on people and not robots."

"Training aside, is it really necessary for heroes to coddle their powers against villains?" Midoriya mutters, so low only one person beside him could really hear.

"The villain team will win by capturing the hero team or surviving with their bomb intact for 15 minutes. The hero team wins by capturing either both the villains or the bomb within that time limit." He holds out a roll of white tape. "You will use this to capture the enemy by wrapping it around any part of their body.

"AND NOW!" He takes from behind him a box. Holding it in front of them, he speaks, "TO DRAW LOTS! The twenty balls inside represent your numbers. Each person will pick one, and whoever you get is your teammate."

Everyone goes up to choose their partners. The results are:

A. Midoriya and Kendo

B. Hagakure and Ojiro

C. Bakugo and Uraraka

D. Todoroki and Mineta

E. Tokoyami and Shouji

F. Ashido and Sero

G. Koda and Sato

H. Aoyama and Asui

I. Kirishima and Iida

J. Jiro and Yaoyorozu

Izuku looks over at the girl with the strong arms, lightly waving. Kendo walks over as everyone pairs up. "You're Midoriya right? You up for this?"

"I'd say so," he says, looking to the side quickly.

"Uraraka right?" Bakugo says, and the girl shrieks seeing the scary boy.

Mineta groans when it turns out he can't team up with a girl, but he has high hopes in getting good marks with this team up.

"Why exactly are we teaming up randomly?" asks Iida with his hand raised.

"On missions, sometimes heroes or officers have to team up with others from an unfamiliar agency on the spot in emergencies," says Izuku, saving All Might the time for explanation.

"Oh, I see. Sorry for the-"

"IT'S OKAY! MOVING ON! And now, for the first round matchup!" All Might takes out a box. "The first pick is the hero team." With gleeful anticipation, he pulls out the first ball, A. With this announcement all eyes are on Izuku and Itsuka.

"And now for the villain team." The next is D: Todoroki and Mineta. "With the teams set up, you're all allowed prep time. Get ready for it."

Izuku and Kendo stand outside of the building, looking over the notes. The girl with orange hair adjusts her mask asking, "Do you have a plan for what to do?"

"Well, from what I can tell Todoroki's ice powers bestow upon him versatility in many regards." He remembers back during the test yesterday and how he'd use ice to slide for a faster score. "Depending on how much he can use his ice power, he can probably freeze the entire building just to make sure we can't get in." Izuku checks the time. "Ten seconds. Get ready to head up around back. I'll provide a distraction."

"Isn't that risky?"

"BEGIN!" All Might starts the match. Just as team A head up to the building, the entirety of it freezes completely in ice. This move not only seals the entrance but provides spikes for enforcement.

"And he did…" mutters Izuku before he checks out the solid water. "Such precision and delicacy in it too; the ice is hard and strong enough to keep a normal person from entering. Maybe if we go-"

"HYA!" Kendo punches hard, using her giant fist to impact the doorway. Her mighty punch shatters the ice in their way, the door also blows backward from the strike. Izuku's jaw drops seeing how strong she is. Once done, she shrinks her hand down and rubs away excess ice. "Ya done mumbling?"

He sheepishly laughs before going inside. Raising his hand, he magnetizes the door lifting it. He jumps on the floating piece and crouches, allowing her to join him. "Change of plan. You got one?"

"Brute force?"

"That's what you do when the plan fails."

"No, that's running." Kendo looks around leaning in close on top of him. He swerves slightly from the contact, giving the tomato impression. Looking around, Kendo taps his shoulder prompting the boy to stop. "Okay, light bulb!"

From up in a secret room Todoroki stands next to the bomb. He looks around noting everything he's frozen is still in place. The entrance is clear, and his left hand is melted free. Mineta, on his left, shivers as he asks, "What's next? I think I can hear them."

"They're definitely inside," speaks the ice master. "I only used a light coating of ice to make sure I don't take down the building or damage the nuke. Most likely Kendo with her grip strength can break her way in."

"Yeah, she's got strong hands."

"Please, don't." He looks over at the entrance. "Mineta, from the layout of the hallway there's only one way up here if they go up the steps. Be ready."

Two minutes later, Izuku on the magnetic door moves up the stairs coming to a hallway. The hooded shocker comes closer to the room, before a shout of, "GOTCHA!"

In the monitor room, the rest of the class watches as Mineta throws a flurry of his grape balls at Izuku. Jiro looks with intrigue at Mineta's movement. "Wow, that was pretty good."

"Exactly! Mineta's Grape Rush excels at trapping people!" All Might says writing down notes. "But, there's more to this than you think."

Mineta goes over to the contained Izuku and pulls over the hood. To his shock, "It's a fake!" A collection of half-frozen scraps bent to resemble a human stands on the door with Izuku's hood.

"We call it Kawarimi no Jutsu," says Kendo as she rounds the corner. "All you need is something that looks like you, and you."

"Crap…" Izuku comes up from behind Kendo and rushes at Mineta. Without the coat, his outfit shows his toned arms. He fires an electric stream at Mineta, who jumps to the side dodging. "That was close!"

"Kendo, follow up with the plan!" he says, going forward towards the bomb room.

"Got it," she says, turning her blue eyes at Mineta. "Considering Todoroki's power, Izuku's electric abilities can match him."

"Taste my balls!" Mineta grabs the grape balls on his head and throws three of them, Kendo accurately dodging them. One lands behind her right leg, one on the wall behind her, and the last on the ceiling.

"That's gross." She moves forward to attack, but Mineta gracefully dives in to dodge. Throwing three balls up as he does, Kendo manages to avoid all but the one that attaches to her right elbow armpit.

The little grape rushes in and jumps, bouncing on the ball he threw behind her. He hops onto the next on the wall and latches to her back. The balls on his hand glue him to her, and she smells nice. "I can't believe I didn't think of this!"

"Get off me!"

As Kendo wrestles with the purple hero, Izuku dashes for Todoroki. Ice moves in towards him, forcing him to jump over. He fires a stream, but his opponent ducks under. Another shoots out, and it's blocked by a wall of ice.

'Good judgment, and well trained. And since the ions in ice are solid, my electricity can't just pass through.' Looking around, he sees nothing he can immediately collect to throw at him. 'I'll have to just blast it.'

Ice shoots out from the ground towards him, forcing Izuku to electrify it and melt. He grabs the door and holds it in front of him; since it's mostly metal it's an effective defense allowing him to melt anything it contacts.

Blocking more ice, Izuku looks at Todoroki noticing his left side. 'He only sends ice from the right side, but the left is covered in it. Why?' An ice pillar shoots out at him, forcing Izuku to melt it again. But then, from behind, Todoroki slides in at him. 'Uh oh!' He quickly slams the door at him, but the ice user grabs the door with his right hand and freezes it.

He backs away to avoid getting caught in more frost, before looking up at the light fixtures. Raising a hand up and pulling down his goggles, he fires electricity into it, causing immense light to shine down. The ice adds to the immense flare, shining and blinding the unprepared Todoroki. Since it's in the room, Kendo and Mineta are unaffected.

"My eyes!" Todoroki groans, holding his right eye which took the brunt of the photons. 'I can't see! It's like seeing dad come out of the hot springs!'

"We win." Izuku rushes in towards the bomb behind Todoroki, who stumbles a bit trying to regain his sight. 'He won't be able to aim his ice properly. I just need to reach the bomb and then-'

The ice user screams out, flames erupting from the left side of his body. The ice melts away quickly, and like a fading winter the room heats up intensely. Izuku jumps away feeling the heat.

"Whoa!" 'So that's why he can only use ice on the right. The left side makes fire.' The raging inferno's intensity even spreads outside, melting the grape balls covering Kendo.

'I'm free?' She breaks out of the adhesive and grabs Mineta, throwing him to the ground.

"Ah man! Adhesives can be weakened if heated a certain amount!" says Mineta realizing what happened.

"Can't believe I forgot that." With purple staining her clothes, Kendo turns her fists larger.

Todoroki regains his vision. "I used my left side…"

"Great. He's even more dangerous," Izuku says as he summons electricity around his hands. He wishes he knew more about Todoroki before making this plan; being able to produce heat brings a nervous feeling in his heart. Except for wood, fire is his natural enemy. "What's his next move?"

To his surprise, the fire dies away reverting inside of him. A hateful glare forms in his eyes as Todoroki steps forward. "Not even a week and I broke my vow."

Back with Mineta and Kendo, he throws balls at her. But she swipes the air blowing them away with ease courtesy of her giant hands. The grapes bounce off Mineta, but distract him long enough for Kendo to get in close and wrap a lasso around his arm; it came from her utility belt. Hands back to normal size, eyes overshadowed, she cracks knuckles.

"So you like to grope girls huh?" Seconds later, Mineta goes flying out the window. The lasso pulls him quickly preventing the boy from crashing. Kendo reels him in placing the boy somewhere to the side before tying him up.

Todoroki sends ice towards Izuku, who again resorts to the door strategy. The only thing this time, he sends it flying towards him. It bends, sealing his arms in place until he freezes it over shattering the metal object. Izuku then magnetizes more stuff surrounding them to send, all of which is dodged with ease yet causing damage to the building. 'Why isn't he using fire anymore?'

Kendo rushes in behind Izuku heading for the bomb. Todoroki sends ice at her, but she jumps flipping over it and landing on the bomb. She grabs hold with her giant hands, clutching it in place. "Got it!"

"AND IT'S OVER!" With one minute left on the monitor, the hero team finishes the mission. Kendo plops forward on top of the device with a sigh of relief while Izuku drops down on his behind tired.

"We did it," says Kendo with a sigh.

"Yeah." The two face one another, and high five smiling.

Todoroki looks morbid, reaching his arm out and using his firepower to melt the remaining ice. "I can't believe it…" He stares at Izuku. 'He's more than just electricity.'

Mineta is bleeding from the nose.

"The VIP of this Battle Training is Kendo!" says All Might as everyone gathers together in the room underneath. Kendo, Izuku, Todoroki, and Mineta all stand before the class. "Can anyone tell me why she is?"

"I would say," speaks Yaoyorozu as her interpretation comes forth. "Todoroki was going strong until he panicked and used his flames melting the ice and the grapes on his side, as well as failing to utilize it in battle. Mineta seems to have lost focus on the task and stuck to Kendo instead of assisting Todoroki against Midoriya. Speaking of whom, Midoriya was also doing as well as Todoroki but made a mistake at the end; using his power he was throwing things at Todoroki, some ended up hitting the bomb. In a real situation, a bomb could go off from that kind of damage. It also seemed like he forgot the objective and was more focused on sealing Todoroki instead of securing the bomb. Kendo, however, kept her focus on the bomb, and even saved the enemy."

"How is saving the enemy a plus?" Izuku mutters this to himself, though the three beside him hear.

The hero All Might stares with shaking surprise, before holding a thumbs up. "Thanks. Couldn't have said it better myself," he speaks.

Concluding the teacher's words, Izuku glances over at Yaoyorozu, surprised by how much he misjudged her. She gives the impression of the sexy girl, but she really knows her stuff. It's going to be convenient having her around.

"Considering we're all heroes in training, there's no harm in supporting each other," she adds, huffing with confidence.

"Yeah, thanks," Izuku speaks, his tone rude. He then walks to join the rest of the class, zapping his coat of the purple adhesive left from the melted grapes. 'I guess I did forget about the bomb. But in a real situation unless the bad guy is disabled he can still hurt someone.'

"The next group, get ready!" The next group up is hero team Bakugo and Uraraka vs villain team Jiro and Yaoyorozu.

Once the training begins the villains set up, with the busty brain conjuring steel plates to seal the entrance in. "Once I'm done, you scope around with your ear jacks to listen in on their movements."

"Earphone jacks," Jiro says, correcting her on the name of her Quirk. Still, she goes along with it, placing her jack lobe on the wall listening in.

Uraraka enters the building first, looking around for any traps set. She then waves in for Bakugo, who storms through passing her by. "We've got fifteen minutes to get the bomb. Bakugo, let's-"

"Don't bother speaking. That ear girl can probably hear us." He turns to the side grabbing a metal pole. "Be quiet, round face."

Gravity girl thinks about it, and nods though even she pouts at the name. The two then sneak up the steps, her Quirk making them lighter to conserve sound. Soon they reach the area where the bomb is, and the plates blocking their path.

"Oh no," whispers Uraraka. "I'll release my Quirk and lift those things up."

"Not yet. I got a better idea," he whispers back, moving in close to the door. Raising the pipe, he screams, "SOUND CHECK EAR GIRL!" He slams the pole into the plates, causing an explosive sound to reverberate throughout the halls.

"EEEEEEEAAAAAH!" Jiro screams, holding her head in pain. The overload sends her hurtling over, unable to take in so much at once.

"J-Jiro-san?" Yaoyorozu looks in shock seeing her fall over, also covering her ears.

"Now!" On Bakugo's direction, Ochako uses her Quirk to lift the top three plates, allowing him to leap through and roll on his feet.

Yaoroyozu summons a bo staff and forms a stance. 'With Jiro incapacitated, I'm on my own.' "You're not getting by me."

"Yes, I am." A murderous look forms on his face in the form of a toothy grin as violet energy spreads across his body. He moves in close at a speed she is unprepared for and kicks her hard in the stomach. Yaoyorozu hits the wall hard, dropping her staff and sliding down on her behind.

'Inconceivable! He wasn't this fast during the 50-meter dash!' She looks up at him as he wraps the tape around her right leg. He then walks over to the bomb and grabs it, earning their victory.

Uraraka looks in awe at how amazing Bakugo is. 'It's almost like I didn't need to be here…'

"Hey," he says, catching his partner's attention. "Thanks for getting the plates."

There's an honest surprise in her eyes staring at him. "Oh…kay."

"Just as I expected…" All Might mutters, before making his judgment. "HERO TEAM WINS!"

The others clap at Bakugo's stunning victory. Iida is even impressed despite not liking his attitude. "To think he understood her power that well."

'As I thought, her hearing is enhanced compared to others. He immediately knew and took advantage.' Izuku thinks further on Kacchan's victory and starts seeing more of his Quirk. 'Strength enhancement, which can be spread by that violet energy. Why didn't I notice it earlier?'

On the monitor, he also notes Bakugo's handshaking. Actually, his whole body is. Almost like he's still not used to his Quirk. 'Hmm…'

After everyone collects together again, All Might declares, "The VIPs this time are Bakugo and Uraraka," he says, giving an unbiased tone to his announcement. "Any reason why?"

Yaoyorozu looks down distraught. With her silence, Kendo decides to give her two cents. "I believe because Bakugo-san both kept his head and focus. When Yaoyorozu sealed the room she didn't set any backup traps believing that was enough, and Jiro left herself exposed to her weakness without realizing it. If there was any fault I could find in Team B, it would be Bakugo-san unwittingly throwing himself into battle alone."

'Whoa. We got two brainiacs.' "YOU ARE CORRECT," says All Might, agreeing with Kendo's analysis.

Izuku looks over at her former partner, sighing. There is a lot more to being a hero than being stronger than the enemy, and it's starting to hit him the longer he stays here. The rest of the Battle Training continue along, most battles being more straightforward like Team B and Team J instead of tricky like Team A and Team D.

In the end, everyone stands together with no major injuries. Outside in the open, the hero speaks, "GOOD JOB EVERYONE! No one managed to suffer any serious injury."

"After Aizawa-sensei almost expelling one of us," begins Asui, "a straightforward class is pretty unsatisfying."

"We teachers are allowed to teach the way we wish," is his main response, All Might slightly sweating at that denouncing. "Now I'm off. You all change out of those costumes and resume class." Like a speedster, he takes off, dust left in his absence. Mineta, still nursing Kendo's punch, looks in awe at how cool he is.
