Prom Night

Chapter Four

i do not own yu-gi-oh!.

"Are we really going to do this right now, Marik? Seriously? In the middle of our prom? We're supposed to be having a good time tonight, not fighting. Why do you always have to make shit so damned difficult for absolutely no reason?"

Yūgi turned her head at the sound of her friend's voice, moving it from its place on Yami's shoulder. Her brows furrowed as she glanced over at Ryō who was dancing not too far away with Bakura. "Hey Ryō?"

The white hair turned her head when she heard her name being called to look at the other teen, her brows shooting upward, "Yeah Yūgi? What's up?"

A head of tri-coloured hair jerked back to the still bickering couple, causing everyone to look back at what she was gesturing to. It was then that they all noticed that the two platinum blondes were fighting with each other once again. "What's going on with Marik and Malik? They've been fighting for the last five minutes."

"Oh, that. It's their usual," Ryō said, shrugging her shoulders as she and Bakura continued to sway across the floor. "Marik's just freaking out because Malik is moving three hours away to go to school at University of Tokyo. He thinks that she's going away just so that she can date other guys. Which is absolutely ludicrous but then again this is Marik and he's never been one for logic."

"Maybe we should…" Yūgi started before she was cut off.

"Yūgi," Yami said interrupting her gently, bringing her attention back to him and away from their friends. "You can't solve everyone's problems, no matter how much I know you want to. Marik and Malik will have to work this out between one another on their own."

Yūgi sighed, nodding her head before she was suddenly snatched out of Yami's arms by a fuming Malik who had come storming their way without them noticing. "Yūgi, I need to talk to you, now. Sorry Yami."

She could tell by the way that Yami's features darkened that he didn't appreciate her snatching his girlfriend out of his arms like that. Yūgi cast him a silent plea not to cause a scene and he turned away after nodding almost as if he had understood what the look on her face meant as she followed the taller, tanned woman off the dance floor. "What's up Malik? What's wrong?"

"Marik. He's making me so damned mad and on top of that, I have killer cramps," Malik answered haughtily; her arms coming to rest under her breast. "He's being a complete asshole about me going away for school at Tokyo U like I'm leaving the country or something. He's being completely impossible. And I love him dearly but I'm not going to put up with that shit for too much longer."

Yūgi smiled softly at the other girl, placing a hand on her shoulder. "Don't let some stupid fight ruin your prom night. We're all here to have fun, okay? So try to put all that to the side and you guys talk about it later. But for right now, I have some Midol in my purse upstairs. I can go get it for you, that should help with the cramps. I'll go grab the key from Yami and bring them down for you."

"Thanks Yūgi, you're a real friend," Malik said graciously before the shorter girl walked away again to find her boyfriend.

It didn't take long for Yūgi to find him, he had returned to their table and took a seat to where his back was to her. He turned though, as soon as he heard her approaching. "What is it Little One?"

"I need the key to the suite, I have to go get something for Malik," Yūgi answered.

"I'll just go with you," Yami offered as he stood, grabbing his suit jacket that had been shed.

"No, no, it's okay, I'm just going to run up really quick, grab my purse, then I'll be right back," Yūgi assured him. "It shouldn't take more than five minutes."

His brow rose as he reached into the inside of his vest, his fingers brushing against the card. "Are you sure? It would be no trouble for me to walk upstairs with you. Besides, I could use a break from this place for a few minutes. You know listening to loud music for long periods of time gives me headaches."

Yūgi laughed, gesturing for him to come with her. "Fine then, c'mon. Malik really needs that Midol, being a girl definitely sucks."

"Say no more," Yami said pulling his jacket over his shoulders again before offering his arm to her.

Yūgi happily took his offered arm before they made their way out of the ballroom, passing by Malik and Marik who had begun to argue once again. The tri-colour haired teen couldn't help but shake her head, didn't Marik know that he was only putting a strain on his relationship with Malik? As long as she had stuck by his side, he should definitely not be questioning her loyalty at this time even if she was moving two hours away for school. Maybe she could convince Yami to talk some sense into their friend before he destroyed a four-year relationship.

"Much better," Yami sighed as they exited the ballroom and into the lobby, making their way towards the elevators. "I will never understand how anyone can stand listening to overly loud music for long periods of time without their heads hurting."

"Their ears must not be overly sensitive like yours are," Yūgi teased as they came upon the elevator. "You're a delicate flower when it comes to music."

Yami chuckled as he leaned down to capture her lips in a brief kiss, neither aware of the man that was watching them from a distance. He had been hoping that she would walk off alone, but that do good-er rich bastard boyfriend of hers just had to follow her. If he hadn't, he would have snatched the short girl and pulled her away before anyone noticed or she could scream to alert anyone of what was going on.

"Fuck."

He was seething as he watched them enter the elevator together, the doors closing behind them seconds later. He snarled, turning to make his way to the staircase. He'd just have to find another opportunity to grab her and exact his revenge. Besides, waiting made the kill sweeter in the long run.

"Here we are," Yami said as he opened their room door, allowing Yūgi to slip inside before him. "Where was it that you put your purse?"

"The bedroom closet," Yūgi called over her shoulder as her heeled feet shuffled to the room that Yūgi had claimed for them when she had come up with the other girls to freshen up an hour or so before. "I'll be right back; I'm just going to grab it okay?"

"Alright," he replied before taking a seat on the couch.

Yūgi entered the bedroom, opening the closet doors that doubled as a mirror. Standing on her toes, she reached upward, attempting to grab her clutch. Damn her short legs and how high up this shelf in this closet was. She should have just left it on the bed instead of having Malik put it in the closet for her. Attempting to stand on her toes once more, she reached; missing the bag and beginning to topple forward until she felt an arm wrap around her waist, halting her fall. She turned her head to see Yami standing there, a small smile on his lips.

"Need some help?" he offered as he reached up and grabbed the elusive bag as he helped her stand straight again. He handed it over to her. "Why didn't you just ask me to grab it for you? I could hear you struggling all the way from the living room."

"I thought I would be able to reach it," Yūgi laughed before she froze. She could have sworn she heard the front door to the suite being unlocked and someone entering the room.

"Yūgi? What's wrong," Yami asked, the concern for his girlfriend evident in his voice. Her freezing like this had become a constant occurrence since she received that message on Facebook from their old Science teacher Takahiro Han over a month ago. And the very vague but urgent text message that he had received from her grandfather earlier had him even more on edge. "Are you alright?"

"I thought I heard someone come in," Yūgi answered. She shook it off, offering a small smile. "It must have just been one of the other guests from the other rooms. Sorry about scaring you like that. I've just been super jumpy tonight for some reason but I'm okay, I promise."

"Are you sure?" Yami asked, his hand coming to rest on her waist. "We can always let the others know that you're not feeling well and stay up here in the room for the rest of the evening. I don't mind."

"No really, it's fine," Yūgi said shaking her head. "It's just me being paranoid. I'm still kind of freaked out by the whole thing with… him and the message on Facebook. I know they found him and locked him up over three thousand miles away not long after we filed the report, but the memory of that night still haunts me to this day and I'm constantly looking over my shoulder because it feels like something or someone is watching me at all times."

"Yūgi, you have nothing to worry about," Yami assured her, placing a kiss on her temple before his arms were wrapped around her shoulders and he pulled her closer; allowing her head to rest on his chest. "I'm not going to let anything happen to you. I'd stake my life on it. And if he were able to somehow escape, as unlikely as that is, there's no way that he would be able to get to you. I still have Agent Tran on speed dial and she assured both of us that she would do anything that she had to, to make sure that you were safe and out of his reach. Don't psych yourself out."

"You're right," Yūgi agreed as she pulled the bottle of pills from her clutch, setting it down on the bed. "Thank you Yami. Now c'mon, let's get these back down to Malik and enjoy the rest of our prom. No more worrying about the past tonight or ever again for that matter."

"That sounds like a great idea to me," Yami agreed as the two made their way back to the entrance.

He opened the door for Yūgi, both stepping out together as the door locked automatically behind them. They were engaged in quiet conversation on their way back to the elevator, unaware of the man that had walked out of his own room as they passed by; his onyx eyes focused on Yūgi as he made his way to their room and slipped inside.

"Soon little Yūgi," he whispered to himself, a sick grin twisting his features. "We'll be seeing each other very soon and you're going to pay for what you did to me."

...

"Marik I swear to Ra if you don't leave me alone about leaving for school," Malik practically shouted as she abruptly stood from her seat. "I'm not going away to date anyone else. I've stuck with you for the last four years, idiot. What makes you think that I'm just going to up and leave you because I'm going away to school? This is absolutely ridiculous!"

"Malik, please try to calm down," Yūgi said reaching out to touch her friend's arm comfortingly. "You guys shouldn't fight like this. You've been together for way too long."

"Clearly this idiot doesn't understand that," Malik said before she turned on her heel and stormed away; grabbing Honda's room key to the suite.

She wasn't going to deal with him and his shit today. This was her senior prom. They were supposed to be having fun, not fighting every five minutes because he wanted to bring up her leaving for school. She had told him that he should have applied there with her if he didn't trust her that much. But of course, he didn't do anything that she said as usual which she was expecting.

Harshly wiping the tears from her eyes, the platinum hair made her way to the elevator and pressed the up button; ignoring Marik's voice calling out to her from behind her. She was silently praying that the elevator would get there before he caught up to her and she could escape him if only for a few moments. Her prayers were answered when the doors opened and she slipped inside, allowing them to close behind her as she pushed the button for the third floor right as he got close to the door.

Her head tilted back to rest against the wall of the elevator shaft, the angry tears she had been trying to hold back mixing in with her foundation as they rolled down her cheeks. He was overly infuriating.

"Damn idiot," she whispered, shaking her head from side to side. "He should know better than that..." She wiped away her tears, her face souring when she saw her foundation rubbing off with it. "Great, now I have to fix my face. I shouldn't have to go through this on my prom night."

Lavender eyes rolled as the elevator came to a stop and she stepped out; making her way to the suite that Yami, Yūgi, Anzu, and Honda were supposed to be sharing for the evening. She plopped down on the couch, her head going to rest in her hands. She was so caught up in her thoughts that she didn't hear the rustle that was coming from one of the adjoining rooms until it was too late.

It wasn't until she saw a set of feet in front of her that she decided to look up. At first she had thought Marik had caught up to her, but when she saw the face of Takahiro Han, she froze. "Mr. Han?"

He didn't even give her an opening to get up and run before he grabbed her by her throat, brandishing the hunting knife. She screamed when she felt the knife tear into the soft skin of her stomach; praying that someone would hear her and come to her rescue. Her prayers were answered when the door burst opened to reveal Marik; causing Takahiro to drop her. Her hand went to clutch her side to dam the hemorrhaging as her ears registered crashing a few feet away before the voice of her boyfriend shouted for her to stay awake; the sound of retreating footsteps blending in with it.

"Shit Malik, stay awake," Marik shouted as he knelt down beside her, pressing a pillow to the wound as he fumbled for his cellphone. He was finally able to get the elusive device, quickly dialing 911. The operator answered seconds later. "I'm calling to report a stabbing. I'm located at the Hilton Hotel on Main Street. Please hurry and send someone. She was stabbed pretty deep."

There was confirmation that a unit would be sent before he hung up the phone and turned his attention back to his girlfriend.

"Just hold on Mal," Marik whispered, brushing her hair out of her face. "Just hold on, I'm going to be right here with you the whole time, don't worry. I'm so sorry. If we weren't fighting, this would have never happened. I'm not going to bug you about going away for school anymore. I know you wouldn't just up and leave me. I was just being an idiot. Just don't die on me. I can't have you leave me, not right now."

He could feel his own tears beginning to stream down his cheeks as the pale eyed female looked up at him, a slight smile gracing her features. "I'm not going anywhere idiot. You saved my life. My side just hurts like a bitch."

Marik couldn't help the laugh that escaped his grasp as he continued to press down on her wound with the pillow, cradling her against his chest with his free arm. "Way to look on the bright side of things Malik. You're gonna be alright, they're sending an ambulance for you now."

"Good, then they can fix this hole in my side and give me something to relieve the pain. That damned knife was no joke," Malik said as she rested against her boyfriend, a grimace gracing her features. "If I ever see that son of a bitch again, I'm going to stab him; right in his balls. See how he likes it."

"I'd have done it myself if he hadn't run away and I wasn't so concerned about your well-being. Once we get you to the hospital, I'll take care of him. He's not getting away with hurting you and he damn sure isn't getting anywhere near Yūgi if I have anything to say about it."

"Get in touch with Yami, he's going to want to know that Mr. Han is here," Malik whispered before she grimaced in pain again.

"I will."

"Maria? C'mon Maria pick up," the blonde behind the desk said into his walkie talkie, just vaguely registering the EMT's that were walking out with a girl on a stretcher and a male following close behind. "Maria are you there? What's going on, is everything alright?"

He was met, once again, with nothing but silence. He scoffed, placing the device down on the counter before running his fingers through his hair. He needed to get in touch with Maria so that she could go and take care of a room that needed her assistance. The absolute last thing that he needed was for a guest to complain about the service and the incident to get back to his boss or it would be his ass on the line. And since he couldn't exactly walk away from the check in desk, he'd have to find someone else to go and find her in his place. It was already bad enough that he already had someone get hurt and have to be escorted out by paramedics; he'd have to dig and find out what that was all about later.

He turned when he heard the door to the employee entrance to the kitchen opened and one of the other hotel staff members stepped out.

"Sims, hey do you mind doing me a favour," the blonde asked, causing the other to halt. "Room six-fifteen needs a turndown and I can't reach Maria on her walkie. Her last known location was up on the third floor, think you can check and see if she's still up there somewhere?"

"Sure thing Smith," Sims, another blonde, said with a nod before he held up an ice bucket. "I've got this for room three-twenty. I'll check and see if she's up there after I drop this off."

"Great, thanks," the other said before shoo-ing him off.

Sims nodded before he began making his way to the elevator again. He pressed the up button before the doors opened and he stepped into the shaft, hitting the button for the third floor. He whistled on the short way up before stepping off when it came to a stop. He made his way to the room he was delivering the ice to, collecting his tip before he turned to walk away just as the door to room three-thirteen opened and a man stepped out, passing him by in the hallway to his own room.

Sims nodded to the man as he made his way to the abandoned cart he was certain belonged to Maria, picking up the walkie talkie that was resting by several stacks of towels. At the same time, Takahiro had opened the door to his suite right when the blonde turned to look at him.

"Excuse me, sir?" Sims called out to the raven hair.

Takahiro sighed heavily, turning his head to look at the man, "Yes?"

"The housekeeper, Maria," Sims said before he held his hand up just below his pectoral. "She's about this tall, dark brown hair, green eyes. Have you seen her tonight? My boss was trying to get in touch with her because a room needed assistance but no one's seen or heard from her all night."

The man smiled, this guy looked to be about his size so this should work. Pushing the door opened, he looked back into the room, "She's right here in my room; turning down the bed."

"Thank you," Sims said as he passed the man, entering the room before him, "Maria!"

He heard the door click shut before the feeling of strong hands wrapped around his neck, the weight of a full grown male pushing him down on the bed. He tried, hard to fight the other off, pushing at his face to attempt to get him to let go before he saw the gleam of the hunting knife. Seconds later he felt the blade slice across his throat quickly before he was choking on his own blood and left to die a slow death.

"Has anyone seen anything, any reports of this bastard's whereabouts?" Hamura said into the ear piece that was attached to her ear as she watched Yūgi and her friends that were at the table from the back entrance of the ballroom.

"Nothing so far ma'am," came a reply from one of her agents over the radio. "No one has reported any sightings of Takahiro Han."

"Well keep your eyes peeled," Hamura ordered. "If that bastard does show up here for any reason, he is not to get anywhere near Yūgi Mutou or anyone with any association to her. Is that understood?"

A chorus of "Yes ma'am" came over the frequency before the line died out again. Hamura's attention was returned to the table full of teens, a small smile pulling at the edges of her red painted lips as she watched Yūgi talking and laughing with her friends.

"How's everything here," Jiro asked, suddenly appearing by her side. He glanced out where his boss was looking, head tilted to the side. "Which one is she?"

"The one right there at the back table with multi-coloured hair," Hamura answered, pointing to said girl. "Yami Sennen is sitting to her left."

"She's pretty," Jiro commented offhandedly.

"And alive," Hamura pitched in before she turned to look at the other agent. "And that's how I want to keep her. Have you found any leads at all?"

"So far nothing," Jiro answered. "None of the hotel staff have reported seeing Han. The clerk at the front desk has been reporting back to me with names of any new person that has checked in recently in thirty minute intervals. So far no one that who's name he reported to me even remotely fits his profile has checked in."

Hamura blew out an irritated sigh. "Alright, stay on top of that front desk clerk, make sure that he continues checking in with you every thirty minutes. And contact the unit that was placed on the Mutou residence. Make sure that her grandfather is safe. I don't want anything happening to Mr. Mutou either."

"On it ma'am," Jiro said before he walked away, leaving Hamura to watch the table full of teens again.

"I promise you Yūgi, so long as I breathe, that bastard won't get anywhere near you to harm a single hair on your head," Hamura whispered to herself; her arms coming to rest under her breast. "I'll bet my life on it for your sake."

Her lips were pursed in a thin line as she continued to watch the group of friends share kisses with their significant others and laughs among the table until her ear piece crackled to life, gaining her attention before the voice of Jiro came over the line. "You might want to come check this out. I think we found something."

"Where are you," Hamura asked as she turned on her heel to make her way back to the main lobby of the hotel.

"Back parking lot," Jiro answered.

"I'm on my way," Hamura said before the frequency died again as she briskly walked through the lobby to the main doors.

The click of her heels could be heard moving across the pavement as she made her way to the back parking lot. She was greeted by six of her agents surrounding a black Mercedes Benz, glancing at something in the trunk. She continued to walk forward, her arms coming to rest across her chest when she finally stopped.

"What do you have for me," Hamura asked, a slender brow irked.

"A wife over in Tokyo reported her husband missing late yesterday evening," Jiro answered. "Said he would take the train over to Domino every Sunday night for work and return on Fridays. For the last four days he hasn't answered any of her phone calls and he didn't come home last night like she was expecting him to so she called it in. And that's when we found this."

He gestured to the trunk where a rotting corpse of a man was lying, his throat slit and multiple stab wounds littering his body. The foul stench that emitted from the body made Hamura want to gag; her hand flying to cover her mouth as her body wretched of its own accord. Damn this pregnancy and making me sick when I see shit like this, "What kind of sick bastard..."

"Stab patterns match Han's handy work that he pulled on the Mutou family two years ago," Jiro continued to explained. "And the car is registered to a Mr. Hiro J. Namikaze; our missing person."

"Fucking hell, he may still be here," Hamura said shaking her head. "We need to find this bastard as quickly as possible before someone else gets hurt."

Jiro nodded his head in agreement before the sound of his phone ringing caught his attention. He picked up his phone, answering the call from the bureau. "Wait, what? When did this happen?"

Hamura cast a glance at him, her brow irked in question.

"Fuck," he said before hanging up and turning to Hamura. "That was Agent Smith. She said that she just received a call from Domino General hospital. A girl, Malik Ishtar, a friend of Yūgi Mutou's, was taken in to treat a stab wound. Both she and her boyfriend Marik Hajjar ID'd the suspect positively as Takahiro Han. That son of a bitch is definitely here right now."

"Shit," Hamura cursed before she turned on her heel and made her way back inside. "You five, get this cleaned up before someone comes out and sees. Nakamura, you come with me. We need to shut that prom down and get those kids out of there before someone else gets hurt. You take care of that, I'm going to speak with the front desk clerk and find out if anyone has checked in under the name of our missing person."

"On it ma'am," Jiro said before he broke away from her when they entered the lobby of the hotel once more, intent on carrying out her orders as quickly as possible.

Hamura, on the other hand, briskly walked towards the check in desk, hitting the bell to get the clerk's attention. The blonde turned, surprised to see her there. "Agent Tran? Can I help you?"

"Hiro Namikaze, has he checked in tonight," Hamura asked, her foot tapping against the floor impatiently.

"Uh, let me check," Smith answered as he typed the name into his computer. He glanced up when he found what he was looking for, "He did around eight this evening; room three-oh-nine. Is everything alright?"

"Remember when I told you that if there was an issue I would let you know," Hamura asked to which he nodded. "Well surprise, there's a problem. That man that checked in as Hiro Namikaze, is actually Takahiro Han; the man that I'm searching for. Has he been by here or have you seen anyone leaving in an ambulance."

"Yes actually, not too long ago I saw EMTs carrying out a young woman that had been wounded apparently and a young man covered in blood. I was planning on getting in touch with my staff to find out exactly what was going on," Smith answered. "As for the gentleman, I haven't seen him pass by since he checked in earlier today."

"Good, then give me a key to suite three-oh-nine," Hamura said holding out her hand. He quickly passed her his master key over to her. "I want you to keep your eye out for him and if you see him, let one of my agents know. Understand?"

"Yes ma'am," Smith said nodding his head as she turned and walked away towards the elevators.

She pressed the up button for the elevator repeatedly, impatiently waiting for the elevator to get to her. What seemed like hours when really it was only a few seconds passed before she entered the elevator and pressed the button for the third floor.

The elevator rose quickly before the doors slid opened and she stepped off, removing her shoes from her feet so not to make noise. She didn't want to alert Han that she was there. Silently she crept forward, stopping in front of the door for room 309 before she pressed her ear to the door; listening for anyone that may be in the room.

When she didn't hear anyone or anything, she slipped the card key from her blazer pocket and unlocked the door; quietly opening it before she stepped into the room, her gun at ready.

"Mr. Namikaze, are you here," Hamura asked as she looked around the room.

When she saw no sign of him she moved to check the bathroom. Pulling the curtain of the bathtub back, she was greeted with the sight of the dead maid; her lifeless eyes looking up at her. If not for her strong stomach, Hamura would have thrown up right then and there at the sight. "God fucking dammit."

She left the room, heading back to the hall to gather her shoes as she called her partner. "Nakamura, he's definitely here. He's already killed a maid. Find Yūgi Mutou immediately and get her into protective custody. Now Nakamura, now. I'll be down there momentarily."

"Alright, this is the end of my time for now," the DJ said as the music stopped. "Now it's time for me to introduce one of the prettiest PE teachers I've ever met in my life, Mrs. Kumamura ladies and gentlemen here to announce this year's Prom King and Prom Queen."

There were cheers from the entire room as the woman walked up on the stage with a microphone in one hand and an envelope in the other. "Let's give it up for DJ Tyler everybody! He's definitely done a fabulous job tonight giving us an awesome prom, hasn't he?"

More cheers erupted throughout the room before she continued.

"Now, I have here in my hot little hand Domino High School's two-thousand-sixteen Prom King and Prom Queen," Mrs. Kumamura said smiling. "Now can I please have the nominees join me up on the stage? Mai Valentine, Jounouchi Katsuya, Malik Ishtar, Marik Hajjar, Vivian Wong, Jahiko Takahashi, Yuu Nakamuara, and Akira Toriyama."

Loud cheers erupted as everyone except Marik and Malik walked up on stage, taking their places beside one another. Yūgi saw the smug glance that Mai had cast at Vivian. Neither one of them had any doubts that Mai would be the one that walked out the victor in their final battle. She almost laughed out loud and would have if she hadn't noticed that Marik and Malik hadn't joined them up on the stage. "Hey Yami, do you know where Malik and Marik are? The last time that I saw either of them was earlier when they were fighting with one another."

"I'm not sure," Yami answered truthfully. "If I were to guess I would suspect that they would still be in the suite if they haven't returned as of yet."

"Marik Hajjar, Malik Ishtar?" Mrs. Kumamura called once again, hoping to get an answer from the two teens. "Has anyone seen Marik and Malik?"

"I'm pretty sure that they're in our suite; she did take Honda's key when she left earlier," Yūgi said before she gestured for Yami to try calling. "Give Marik a call and ask him where they are. He should have his cellphone on him right? And I'm going to try and call Malik. Hand me my phone please?"

Yami nodded as he slipped the two iPhones from the pocket of his jacket; handing hers over to her before he unlocked his own phone and scrolled through to Marik's phone number. He pressed call, placing the phone to his ear just as Yūgi was doing the same. It was seconds later that he hung up the phone and turned to his girlfriend as she finished leaving a voicemail before hanging up herself. "Did Malik not answer either?"

"Not at all," Yūgi confirmed before she pointed over his shoulder. "Maybe try calling them on the house phone there?" Yami nodded before he turned and made his way to the phone that she had been pointing at. "Be fast!"

She watched as he picked up the phone and dialed the room numbers, before hanging up again as the PE teacher continued to speak in the background. All hope she had of finding them at that moment deflated as he walked back over to her. "They're not answering either home phone for either of the rooms. I can try Marik's cellphone again, though I'm not sure if he'd answer this time."

"I'll also try Malik again," Yūgi said pulling out her own phone.

Each dialed their friends' numbers again, only to receive the voicemail once more.

"Still not answering," Yami asked as he slipped his phone in his pocket again.

"Still not answering," Yūgi confirmed. "I'm going to go check the rooms, give me the key and I'll go up to take a look. You stay here just in case they come back if I can't find them. I'll text you if they're there."

"Alright," Yami said before handing it over to her before she took off with the card key and her phone. "Be quick Yūgi."

"I guess we're just going to have to start without them," Mrs. Kumamura said shrugging. "Alright so Domino High School's Prom King and Prom Queen are..."

She was disrupted by the fire alarm going off overhead, causing everyone to start to scramble.

"Everyone calm down please. It's just the fire alarm," Mrs. Kumamura said before she was joined on the stage by a FBI agent who whistled to get everyone's attention.

"Alright, can I have everyone's attention please," Jiro said making everyone turn to face him. "The fire department is on the way. There was a small kitchen fire. I'm going to need all of you to exit the building through the lobby as quickly as possible."

"But they were just about to crown King and Queen," Vivian sniffed, folding her arms across her chest. "Can't this wait?"

"Absolutely not," Jiro said before he whistled to get their attention again. "Seriously people, this isn't a game. I need all of you to exit the building now. C'mon let's go."

"Just calm down Vivian, this is just going to have to wait for a bit," Mrs. Kumamura said.

"Like hell this is going to wait," Vivian huffed before she stomped over to the gym teacher and snatched the envelope out of her hands.

"Vivian!"

"Shit," Vivian screeched as she looked at the names written in old English lettering on the envelop before tearing it in half and stomping away.

King: Jounouchi Katsuya

Queen: Mai Valentine

"Oh my gosh, you've got to be kidding," one of her followers said as she leaned down to look at the torn paper. "How the hell did Jounouchi and Mai win?"

"Girls right now is not the time to be worrying about that," Mrs. Kumamura said taking the paper away from them. "Now please, do as the officer said and exit the building. Everything will commence once the fire department gets here and is able to tame the fire that started. Let's move. Now."

Everyone nodded, exiting the stage before making their way towards the exit. Yami was following with Ryō, Bakura, Anzu, Honda, Jounouchi, and Mai when they stopped due to hearing the agent call for Yūgi.

"Yūgi Mutou, is there a Yūgi Mutou here," Jiro called out.

Brow irked, Yami stopped and turned to look at the man, "Why are you looking for Yūgi?"

"Do you know where she is?" Jiro said as he stepped down off the stage right as Hamura walked into the room as well.

"Yūgi isn't with you," Hamura asked irking a brow.

"She went looking for a few friends of ours up in our hotel rooms, suites three-twelve and three-thirteen," Yami answered.

"She wouldn't have happened to have been looking for Marik and Malik, would she," Hamura asked.

"She was," Yami confirmed before Hamura turned to run off, Jiro following close behind her. "Wait, what's going on? Is everything okay?"

However, he received no answer from either the Head of Major Crimes or her underling.

"Think we should follow?" Jounouchi wondered out loud.

"If it's about Yūgi, I'm definitely following," Yami said before he took off after the other man. "I got a very off putting text from her grandfather earlier and I have a really bad feeling about this. Especially if that particular FBI Agent is looking for her. Did none of you recognize her or the man she was with?"

"Should we have," Bakura asked irking a brow. "I mean; she did kind of look familiar but she's not ringing any bells."

"That was Special Agent Hamura Tran and her partner Jiro Nakamura, they were the ones that took on Yūgi's case when Takahiro Han contacted her over Facebook that day," Yami answered. "And if they're here, it could only mean that, that bastard Han has somehow made it here too. And if he's here, Yūgi is in danger. Dammit, I should have paid more attention to that message her grandfather sent me. But it was very vague."

"Let's just hurry up and get to Yūgi then and worry about the signals we should have paid attention to later," Bakura commented. "She's definitely in danger if that jackass is here. And the last thing we need is her getting hurt and Yami losing his mind."

Everyone nodded their heads in agreement, rushing towards the elevators only to be intercepted by several officers from the SWAT team that had just arrived.

"Please you have to let me through," Yami begged. "My girlfriend is up there; I have to go get her. She's not safe."

"Sir I'm sure your girlfriend is fine, if she is up there she will be escorted down with the other guests that are still evacuating the building," the officer said. "But just in case she has already come back down, please go and take a look for her outside. No one that is not authorized personal is allowed to go up there at all."

"Dammit," Yami swore under his breath before he felt and heard his cellphone ring in his pants pocket. He pulled it out, placing the phone to his ear. "Hello?"

"Yami, where's Yūgi," Marik asked.

"I don't know, she went looking for you and Malik in the rooms but she hasn't come back yet," Yami answered. "Where are the two of you?"

"At the hospital, Malik was stabbed by Han," Marik answered. "You need to get to Yūgi now. If Han gets to her, he's going to kill her. He already tried to get Malik. Thankfully I got there in time to save her life. But you might not be so lucky if you don't find her now."

"I would go up and get her, but they're not allowing anyone to get past," Yami sighed, trying to peek over the two officer's shoulders. "I just hope that Agent Tran and Agent Nakamura find her and get her out of there safely."

"You'd better hope they do," Marik warned. "Because if he'd attack Malik the way that he did, there's no telling what he'll do to Yūgi."

That did nothing to help Yami's nerves as he was ushered out of the hotel by the SWAT team and the line went dead.

Yūgi walked into the suite she would be sharing with Yami, Honda, and Anzu, looking around the living room area for Malik and Marik and trying to ignore the fire alarm that was screeching in the background as much as possible. "Mal, Marik, are you guys in here?"

Her brows furrowed when she got no reply from either platinum haired teen. They couldn't have possibly left already, could they? She hadn't seen them since they were fighting while they were all sitting at their table talking.

"Guys, are you here," Yūgi called again before a crash caught her attention.

She jumped, turning on her heel to look around the room. What she saw, almost made her heart stop. The lights began to flicker, casting his shadow eerily across the room. She wished she had told Yami to come with her when she came up here to find Marik and Malik. Maybe then she wouldn't be so defenseless against her worst nightmare.

"Yūgi, Yūgi, Yūgi, my how you've grown," Takahiro said grinning creepily at her as he stepped forward, causing her to step backwards. "You look absolutely beautiful. You do remember who I am right? I've missed you so much."

"Why are you doing this," Yūgi asked as she backed away, tripping over the end table; knocking it and herself to the floor. Damn those heels that Anzu had talked her into buying. "Haven't you done enough by taking my entire family away from me? What purpose could you have for coming back now?"

"Oh Yūgi, that should be obvious," Takahiro said as he stepped closer, kicking the toppled end table out of his way. "For revenge. You broke my heart when you told them that it was me who killed your mother, father, and that brat you called your brother. I love you more than life itself. You know I only did what I did for us. Your parents didn't approve of our relationship. They wanted to tear us apart. I couldn't let them stand in our way. We would have been happy together. Anything you could have possibly wanted, I would have gone to the ends of the earth to get for you. That's how much I love you and I know that you love me too, Yūgi. You can't deny the truth."

"You've got it all wrong," Yūgi commented as she scrambled to get back up. "We were not in love. You became creepy and obsessed with me, why I'm not sure. But, I got scared and when you killed my parents then tried to kidnap me, I had no choice."

"And that, little Yūgi is why you must die. You ruined my life, so now I'm going to end yours, and maybe the life of that rich bastard boyfriend of yours too," Takahiro said as he continued to advance before Yūgi bolted, running towards the door of one of the bedrooms. "Come back here Yūgi and face your punishment like an adult."

Yūgi, however, didn't stop; slamming the door and locking it behind her. She was thankful that she had grabbed her cellphone, pulling it from the bodice of her dress. She shot a quick text to Yami before screaming when she heard Takahiro begin to bang against the door; attempting to break it down. "Leave me alone!"

"Not a chance Yūgi," Takahiro said; she could swear she heard the grin in his voice as she ran to the bedroom. "You're going to pay for what you did to me." Another bang caused the door to begin to splinter, pushing the wood further. "And you're going to pay with your life."

She looked around, trying to think of somewhere she could attempt to hide, then an idea struck. She quickly opened the door that led to the adjoining room before slamming it shut then slipping under the cover of one of the beds that were placed in the room. Several more bangs were heard before the door splintered opened and she saw him walk in, glancing around the room. She placed her hand over her mouth, concentrating on keeping her breathing as calm as possible so that he wouldn't hear her.

"Come out, come out wherever you are Yūgi," Takahiro sang as he looked around the room. "I know you're still in here somewhere... let's not make this difficult. Just come out and I promise I'll kill you as quick and painlessly as possible."

Amethyst eyes closed tight, the tears of fear sliding down her cheeks as Yūgi silently prayed that someone would come to her rescue eventually and that she could last long enough for help to arrive. She didn't see the woman that had come in right after him who would be her saving grace.

...

"I want everyone on every floor looking for them," Hamura barked into her phone as she and Jiro rode the elevator up to the third floor. "Han is definitely here and Yūgi Mutou has gotten separated from her friends. He's sure to try and find her. I want her found as quickly as possible and put into protective custody. Because I swear, if that girl is hurt… you don't want me to finish that sentence."

"On it ma'am."

It was just as the frequency died that the elevator came to a stop and she stepped off with Jiro following right behind her; ready to shoot at any given moment. They quietly crept through the hall towards the rooms that Yami had given them; listening for any sound of a confrontation. What they were met with was the sound of banging and a girl screaming.

"He's found her," Hamura whispered into her ear piece. "They're here on the third floor, room three-twelve. Nakamura and I are poised to intercept. If he should get away from us, your orders are to shoot to kill."

"Yes ma'am."

She signaled for Jiro to walk ahead of her, taking the other side of the door. "On the count of three, I'm going to open the door, quietly, and we'll go in. Hopefully he hasn't gotten his hands on Yūgi. Knowing her, she's definitely hidden herself well. But she won't be able to hide for long, so we need to get in there and get her out. Ready?"

"Ready," Jiro answered.

"One. Two. Three," Hamura whispered before she unlocked the door and opened it before walking into the room. She signaled for him to go to the left before she took the right, quietly walking through the suite.

It wasn't until she got closer to the room that she saw him. He was there, with a fire extinguisher, banging on the door of one of the rooms. She could hear the wood of the door beginning to splinter before it completely broke apart and he stepped into the room. She slipped out of her shoes for the second time that day and continued to follow him.

"Come out, come out wherever you are Yūgi," Takahiro sang as he looked around the room. "I know you're still in here somewhere... let's not make this difficult. Just come out and I promise I'll kill you as quick and painlessly as possible." She saw him pause when he heard the click of her gun being cocked; a bullet ready in the chamber. He turned slowly, a grin crossing his features when he saw her. "Special Agent Hamura Tran. I never thought I'd see your face again after you locked me up."

"Oh yeah, well surprise, here I am," Hamura said with a smile on her face, her gun aimed directly for his head. "You made a huge mistake coming here. Where's Yūgi, what have you done to her?"

"That's a good question, I was looking for Yūgi myself," Takahiro said, his smile never faltering. "But she ran off into one of these rooms before I could get my hands on her. And then you showed up. Oh? Have you been eatin' well? You're looking a bit rounder about the stomach than the last time I saw you a month and a half ago." He saw her flinch at the mention of her stomach. "Uh oh, expose your secret there, eh Head of Majour Crimes? You shouldn't be coming after guys like me when you're pregnant. You and the baby could get hurt. I'm not sure your husband would appreciate that much, now would he?"

"And you should worry about yourself, especially when you have a gun pointed at your head by a highly pissed off woman who always hits her mark," Hamura huffed; grey eyes narrowed at the man. She just had to wait for the right moment to shoot and this would all be over.

"Scary, are you gonna shoot me, Agent Tran," Takahiro asked irking a brow. "Or are you too afraid to pull that trigger? Because you know if you don't do it, and I escape, I am just going to keep coming after Yūgi and getting rid of anyone that tries to stand in my way. So what're you going to do? Are you going to shoot me? Or are you going to let me get away? C'mon Hamura, make a choice. Either shoot me or–"

His sentence was cut off immediately as her finger squeezed the trigger and the bullet flew from the barrel, lodging itself in the centre of his forehead.

"I'm going to shoot you right in the face, you sick son of a bitch," Hamura said before she pressed her finger to her ear piece. "Han's dead; lodged a bullet right between his eyes, I'm going to find the girl now. Get someone up here to clean this shit up."

She heard several voices reply as she moved to put her shoes back on before stepping over the dead body and walking into the bedroom. She glanced around, trying to find the girl that had been the centre of this entire mess.

"Yūgi? Where are you," Hamura called out to her. "It's safe, you can come out now."

She continued to glance around the room until she heard shuffling and then the short teen appeared from underneath the bed. Hamura smiled, relieved to find that she wasn't hurt at all.

"There you are," Hamura said as she walked towards the girl, wrapping her arms around the young teen as she buried her face in the fabric of her blazer. She could already feel the girl's hot tears seeping through the fabric of her jacket and shirt onto her skin. "I'm so glad that you're safe. C'mon, let's get you home now alright?"

She felt the tri-colour haired teen nod before she gently led her towards the other exit opposite of where Takahiro's body lay. When they entered the hall, they were met with several of Hamura's agents heading towards the room, but neither of them paid the men any mind; Hamura simply continued to lead her to the elevator. She pressed the button, grateful for the elevator opening almost immediately before they stepped on and the FBI Agent pressed the button for the main lobby.

"Thank you, for saving my life," Yūgi whispered, her face still buried in Hamura's side. "I thought I was going to die."

A soothing circle was rubbed into Yūgi's shoulder as the two exited the elevator and Hamura led her outside, "It's my job to protect you, it's what I swore to do when I became an agent for the FBI. And I'm very good at my job if I do say so myself." She smiled when she saw amethyst eyes look up at her. "Now, I'm pretty sure that there is someone who might be worried sick about you. Go get him and I'll take you both back to your grandfather's."

Yūgi nodded as she was released before she ran straight into Yami's awaiting arms; completely ignoring the press that surrounded the outside of the hotel's main entrance. Arms came to rest over her chest as she watched the two young lovers embrace one another, Yami holding his girlfriend to his chest as he ran his hand through her hair.

"I'm glad that we got here in time to save her," Jiro said as he came to a stop beside his boss. "All floors were checked, there was one other body found in Han's suite. Another hotel worker, looked like his throat was slit and he was left to suffocate on his own blood. Other than that, we've had no other reports of any students or hotel staff being hurt. Han's body has also been removed from suite three-twelve. Cleanup crew will be here soon to clean up the mess."

"Good," Hamura said before she turned to look at him. "I'm going to take them home. I want a full report of everything that was found written and on my desk by the end of tomorrow's work day."

"Yes ma'am," Jiro said before she walked away.

Hamura cleared her throat when she stopped not far away from Yami and Yūgi. "C'mon you two, I'll take you back home. Your grandfather is worried sick about you, Yūgi."

Yūgi nodded and Yami smiled; speaking to the agent on his girlfriend's behalf, "Thank you, Agent Tran. For everything."

"It's my job to protect all of you, like I told her before and I do the best that I can," Hamura said gesturing for them to follow her, "I'm just glad that I got there in time before he was able to get to you, Yūgi. I wouldn't have been able to face your grandfather if I hadn't been able to keep my promise."

"Promise," Yūgi asked, her brows furrowed.

"Mhm," Hamura said as they reached her SUV. She held the door opened for Yami and Yūgi to get into the back seat before she climbed in on the driver's side. "I made a promise two years ago that I wouldn't let anything happen to you when I took on this case. And I think I did a pretty good job of keeping it."

Hamura pulled to a stop in front of the game shop that doubled as a home, cutting the ignition to the Tahoe. She stepped out of the driver's seat and opened the back door, allowing Yami and Yūgi to both exit the vehicle. They did, heading for the front door of Yūgi's home right as it opened to reveal her grandfather with the beginning signs of tears in his amethyst eyes.

"Yūgi, thank the Gods you're safe," Solomon said as his granddaughter detached from her boyfriend and ran into his waiting arms; her tears renewed. The elder man hugged her waist tightly, his own tears rolling down his cheeks. "I was so afraid that, that mad man would get his hands on you. You weren't hurt were you? Did he get his hands on you at all?"

"I'm fine Grandpa," Yūgi confirmed as she stepped back a bit from her grandfather; wiping her tears from her cheeks. "Agent Tran got there in enough time to save my life."

Solomon smiled, hugging the girl again before he ushered both teens into the home; allowing Yami to stay for the evening. He was certain that his granddaughter would appreciate his company after the night she had, had. When they were inside, he turned to the FBI Agent that stood beside her vehicle, a smile on her face as she watched the exchange between the Mutou's. He made his way over to her, grasping her hand in his own. "Thank you, for everything you've done. You saved my granddaughter's life. I am forever in your debt, Agent Tran."

"I promised that I would keep her safe," Hamura said giving his hand a reassuring squeeze. "And I never go back on my promises. I'm glad just that this is finally over and that girl can have some peace."

"So am I, so am I."

He thanked the woman once again before he turned to make his way inside, locking the door behind him. Hamura waited for several minutes, allowing everything to sink in before she stepped back into her SUV and drove off again. There would be a hell of a lot of paperwork to go through about this and contacting the families of those two workers and the man Han had taken the identity of that had been killed in the crossfire was going to be difficult. But at least Yūgi was safe and now she would be able to get a peaceful night's sleep knowing that the bullet she fired put an end to everything for good.

And it is done! Now, I could have split this chapter into two, and originally I was going to do so. But I really didn't want this story to exceed five chapters since that's what I originally had planned so you get everything in one long update. I'm pretty sure y'all don't mind, do you? Anyways, the next and final update will be the epilogue set five years later. Be looking out for that as of 10/29/16. And then sometime in November you will get Closer which is the time-stamp for this story and Mine which will serve as the prologue, delving deeper into the events that started everything two years prior to the beginning of this story. But enough of my babbling. Reviews are love. I look forward to hearing what you all have to say about this chapter!
