Life was coming back to the city little by little, as from the early morning people were starting to fill the streets. Constantinople was not known for its trading points for nothing. The ships would be coming and leaving with goods from the "world", quietly waiting for their moment merchants would be selling their goods. If we wouldn't know better, then we would say that this is the last part of the story. Ideal, isn't it?
"Come back here you Cretans!" – yelled a merchant while chasing to small figures in the crowd of the Grand Bazar.
The figures were running through the crowd light water around rocks. Not showing signs of fatigue or even a slight remorse for what they did. Slowly, but unconditionally they were getting away from their unwanted "friend", but now where would be the fun in that…
Doing a quick turn right at the exit the came to a complete stop as the wall was right in front of their way.
"Well, well. Two little rats finally got caught…" – the stall owner said.
You would not be able to look underneath the hoods of the two figures, who were supposedly kids by their height. Unfortunately for the owner of the goods they stole a huge grin formed on their faces. With a quick shout from one of them: "Down!"
One went down on a knee and the other quickly jumped on the other and having a good reliance quickly jumped higher and grabbed one of the Colum part about 5 meters high of the ground. When he quickly held his other hand down he helped his friend with a leverage motion to yank him up, and soon they climbed through a small opening to the roof and were gone from sight. This all took them mere seconds to do. The unlucky stall owner could only sigh at his defeat and walk back to where he came from.
It have been a remarkable three years for Naruto and Anvis. Starting from their first day of training when they had to run through the Grand Bazar by bumping pretty much into anything in sight, upping it all with lots and lots of climbing exercise and of course hiding and having races of mostly them running away from the assassins guild members did wonders. Now the two kids were jumping from roof top to roof top, with small efforts. Truly their Mentores knowledge did not go to waste as they advanced rather quickly through the basics and exercises. Not only did they study basic combat skills such as grappling, using their bodies as leverages against their opponents and of course writing, reading and history of the place they were "living" at. They learned not only the language of the Fire Nations, but also Italian and Greek. They did not really understand why they needed this, but Ezio was unyielding in it, saying that it would help them in the future, because no one else in the world knew this language any more.
While running to the assassins guild chambers they could only imagine what their master and mentor had install for them.
Ezio was calmly waiting for his disciples in the library part of the hideout. He was pleased with their progress. Basic physical workouts, balancing, knife throwing and knowledge was doing them good and they were also starting to go through the basics of fencing although not as intense.
He was slowly interrupted from his thoughts as the door slowly opened and closed showing two figures coming to the arc. He saw the light shimmer in the boy's eyes as they removed their hoods. The eyes of the young ones had strong fires in them. Surely not the eyes they had when they first came here. The old mentor smiled at them: "I hope that you were no followed?" – He asked with a smirk on his face, he knew that he trained them to the bone when it came to concealing their presence from others. Even the seasoned assassins could not detect them some times. "Surely something they have an edge at for their parents were chakra wielders".
"I hope you kids are prepared for what is ahead of you. As of today your training as assassins might be considered complete." – The kids hearing that pouted, they did not want this to end – "you will have to complete your final test to show what you have learned over these years. This test was done by me when I became an assassin and by many others before you. You will have to climb the Galatia Tower. Now follow me."
The kids after hearing this, were entranced, after three years of training they never dreamed of this. Although the tower was off limits as their teacher said, but secretly they always wanted to do it, and apparently now it would be their last test. Unfortunately they knew also of the dangers of climbing it, there were not a lot of opening to set foot on and of course because of that options were limited. The rare chunks of wood that would stick out also did not help a lot with climbing it, but this would not scare them. After rigorous training patterns and climbing 90 edge degree walls without any openings they thought they had what it took, so they slowly went after Ezio to the tower.
While they were slowly walking and enjoying the sun shining brightly and the cool air coming from the sea they started their talk.
"I know you kids had it rough with me being your teacher, but I surely have faith in you two. Anvis, although you had loses in your life I tried to bring out the best in you. While training you to the ground I have noticed your passion for knowledge and being trained by the best I can surely say that some of the skills you harnessed over these years may rival the guild members and my own. Naruto everything said before applies also to you. I will not lie by saying you were not week when we first started, but advancing steadily forward you have come to what you have today. You may not be on par with you brother and friend here, but it is definitely a leap for you."
Remembering their own fails and struggles over things and training the kids came to love each other as brothers and best friends. They would always help each other out not matter what, and now it will their moment small glory as they advance further in their training.
"We are here" – Ezio said – "You can both start from this point and remember, no matter what you cannot do this together. This is your individual test, be sure to understand that." Now I only hope that they will be through to my teachings over this time he thought to himself.
"Ready? GO!"
After hearing the command, the kids sprinted towards the tower and started to push off of the walls and boxes that led to the tower making their way up. Slowly they were getting the hang of it and setting their way to the top. It was definitely not a walk in the park, because of being half way done with the climbing they started to get lesser and lesser parts which they could grab on to. The leaps from side to side needed to get longer with each passing jump and the wooden beans sticking out of the tower were starting to become a rare sight. On one of this leaps Naruto did not anticipate the distance and barely held on to one of the openings. Being low on strength he knew that it was impossible for him to lift himself up or push of the wall effectively. This was of course not hidden from Anvis. He needed to make a decision fast or his brother would fall off.
"Now kids, this is the moment where it will be decided, you cannot go through this without sacrificing something. Show me your determination." – Ezio thought while looking at them.
"What should I do?! Ezio definitely said that no interfering with one another… But I can't let him fall… But I can't interfere… What should I do?!" – Anvi thought in mere seconds. Then it hit him like a rock, without a single thought of doubt he did what he need to. He let go of where he was holding and flew down to where Naruto was.
He quickly caught the wooden beam sticking out of the tower and with the motion he had through his free hand to Naruto. He caught it without hesitation.
Ezio could only smile, this is what he was expecting and hoped for. "You cannot shoulder everything by yourself, you need to trust your burdens with others if you cannot succeed yourself. Now finish what you have started together." – he thought while slowly starting to walk to the tower.
Although Anvi helped Naruto he did not know what to do. He quickly looked around him as much as he could be did not see any openings. "Would this be the end of it? No! Concentrate, there should be something!" – He shouted to himself. Just like a drop of water, something clicked in his hade. He had no idea what this was, but he gradually came to realize that something was going on. Everything around him started to get shady. Light blinked below and he started to see it. He started to saw people climbing the walls, but they were not there. He did not understand it, but somehow he knew what to do. He slowly told Naruto hold on to a corner after he would rock him there. Slowly after this step by step, block by block they gradually started to climb. Following the ghosts of the past to their own future.
They crawled up without any strength left, but finally they were there on the top. They looked at each other and laughed, glad that it was over, glad that they were still alive. The only thing they knew was the disobedience of their master's orders. "Im glad you kids are done." – They heard from behind them. After turning around they saw Ezio. With astonished eyes they just could only utter one word "How?"
The old man laughed: "The stairs of course."
They grinned at this they knew their mentor would do something like this, having them go through all the hard work and just take the easy way. This was their own way of comforting one another.
"Naruto, Anvis. I am proud to say that you have completed the test with all the expectations that I had of you and before you ask anything I will say this. Yes I knew that you would have to help each other, although I trained you in everything I know you are still kids. It was bound to happen, but from this point on you will only grow stronger. The other side of the test was of course to see if you took to heart all of the teachings I have bestowed on you. Remember that you are not alone and you have each other as stepping stones to not only rival, but help when needed. Now step here, I want to bestow on you what you have earned."
The kids slowly rose and approached Ezio. He held up the "Apple" and said: "From this day I will bestow on you the sign of the brotherhood, show me where you want it?"
Naruto taped his left hand on his right shoulder. Anvis showed the back of his right hand. A small light glimmered and engulfed the parts they showed and slowly fading away reveled the assassin's insignia in a black color. This was proof of their completed trials and their accomplishment in their young lives.
"Now my students, I will explain to you the meaning of the creed for it is the knowledge that you will carry on when we are done." – He slowly breathed in and started – "Nothing is true, everything is permitted. To say that nothing is true, is to realize the foundations of any society are fragile, and that we must be the shepherds of our won civilization. To say that everything is permitted, is to understand that we are the architects of our actions, and that we must live with their consequences, weather glorious or tragic. I do not remember making this decision to live as an assassin. This life, it chose me. For my life I have fought and protected those who could not defend themselves from the injustice of the world. Now the brotherhood is extinct and with you disciples will be the last I have trained. This is the end of the road." – Slowly the sun was going down and this moment would be concealed in the memories of the children.
The old mentor smiled weakly after this, he knew that this was not the end and the kids would have a long way to go until they would be done. There was still a couple of things that he needed to address until he would be able to pass on his students further.
"Anvis, I knew that you would eventually awaken you "eagle vision", have you not?" – Ezio asked and received a nod in return – "It will allow you to see friend or foe, past events and sharpen your senses. You will eventually learn how to activate and deactivate it for it is different for any of us. Naruto, I will tell you this in advance. You will have your own small gifts eventually, you will just need to wait patiently."
After his speech he went to the edge of the tower and gazed upon the city. So peaceful and quit, he wished for his students to see the beauty of it. He slowly felt presence on each of his side and was delighted to know that Naruto and Anvis both stood their without their hoods and smiling at it of it. They still had a long way to go, but he knew it was possible for them to achieve anything, he would be with them for them there through their whole journey. He needed to do the introductions to the soon already. At all of this he just smirked.
"Well now, seeming that everything is out of the way I want to give you your last part of the initiation" – with that he slowly walked to the edge – "This will be your own leap of faith, just be careful not to miss the hay stack".
With those words he jumped and flew down. The kids looked back at each other and were grinning. They were not allowed to do it before, but now they were ready. They slowly came to the edge, looking at each other and nodding slowly, they jumped. The air of the evening was like a hurricane for them now. They knew were to land and they would not miss their target. With shriek full of excitement they landed in the hay below the tower. Seriously… Hay…
Slowly rising up from it they started to feel a presence and looked at their mentor. He was standing close to a tree with another figure. They could not see the other person clearly and they started walking slowly towards them with a hint of curiosity.
Ezio moshioned his "friend to stay behind him and slowly walked up to the kids.
"This is where your training in the arts of the assassins ends, you have done well to be accepted in to the brotherhood. Now it is time to continue your training with your new teacher. I will not go into the details on what is going to happen next for I know he will be the one to explain. Before this I will finish with saying that I will be there to help along the way." – Ezio answered stepping to the side.
The figure of the stranger started to walk slowly towards the group while saying: - "Well introductions are in order I guess… Hey kids. My name is Kurosaki Ichigo…"
