I said this in my other story- I am a horrible person. I'm so sorry about updating so late. But I explained everything in my other story.
Anyways, here's this chapter that you all wanted so much. I'm starting to really love Sam. She's so awesome!
I don't own anything but Sam and Rena.
Chapter Four: Family Ties
I felt myself jump out of bed when a loud bang rang out through the house. I looked around my room but couldn't find anything out of the ordinary. My door was closed, my window was open, my closet was closed. I shifted my position in my bed before swinging my legs over the side and standing up. I walked around my dark room until my hand touched my door. I quietly opened the door and looked out into the hallway. All the lights were off, except one downstairs. It was a dim light, leading me to believe it was the TV.
"Hello?" I called downstairs waiting for answer. "Jeremy? Elena? Jenna?" Still no answer. I lifted my hand to the wall and felt around until I could feel the light switch and then turning it on. I flicked the switch on and off but the lights still didn't work. I groaned as I rolled my head on my shoulders. This was starting to look like a horror movie that I was the main character in.
I started going downstairs, against my better judgement, and looked around the living room. No one was down here. But I was right about the TV. I grabbed the remote to shut it off, when the volumn started getting loudly.
"This is Logan Fell coming to you live from the streets of Mystic Falls with breaking news of another deadly animal attack. The wild animal terrorizing the citizens of Mystic Falls has claimed other victims late tonight. Two local high school girls, Elena Gilbert and Samantha Markley. Police are certain that forensic evidence will confirm that this is the same animal responsible for recent attacks." Logan finished on the TV as pictures of Elena and I showed up, smiling and laughing at each other with our arms around each other's waist.
"You know what's coming next." I heard lowly in my ear. I quickly turned around to see Damon over my shoulder, with red eyes and fangs popping out from underneath his eyes.
I quickly turned and ran for the door, not bothering to scream. I opened the door to see Elena's dead body on the ground, with her neck snapped and bite marks all over her neck. Damon walked up the stairs with a smug grin on his face and I slammed the door shut before he could reach me.
I turned around again and ran into the kitchen but I felt two strong arms grab me and pull me into them. "You're mine now." I heard Damon said into my ear before he sunk his teeth into my neck. I let the scream that I've been holding onto finally came up as I felt the blood drain from my body.
Stefan's POV:
I felt myself scream, waking me up from the dream I was stuck in. I sat up in my bed and ran my hand through my short hair.
"Bad dream?" I looked up to see Damon sitting on my desk, watching me with a smirk on his face. "Don't worry, Sam had the same dream." He smirked bigger as my eyes slanted at him in a glare. "Do you know how easy it was to get into your head just now? And Sam's? I thought she was wearing that necklace you gave her, but I guess not." He hummed in thought. "Anyways, you really need some human blood. It might even the playing field. Football reference-too soon." He shrugged as my glare got deadly.
I raced up from my spot and grabbed the knife that I kept in my room, before throwing it at Damon. It landed perfectly into his stomach. He flinched before pulling it out slowly.
"Alright, I deserved that." He shrugged looking down at the healing wound. "But I just wanted to let you know, they caught the culprit. The animal responsible for killing coach Tanner and all those people."
"What are you talking about?" I asked confused. Damon was the culprit.
"It was a mountain lion. A really big one." Damon explained lightly. "It attacked a hunter this morning. It's all over the news. 'Deadly beast captured. All's well in Mystic Falls.'"
I raised my eyebrows. "Why would you cover your tracks?"
Damon shrugged. "I've decided to stay for a while. I'm having way too much fun here with you and the girls." Damon smirked.
"Can't touch them now." I said thinking about the vervain jewelry I gave each of them yesterday.
"Well, the vervain keeps me out of their head. Maybe that's not my target." Damon said with a smirk. "Believe it or not, Stefan: Some girls don't need my persuasion. Some girls just can't resist my good looks, my style and my charm and my unflinching ability to listen to Taylor Swift."
Damon sped over to me before stabbing me back in the stomach with the same knife I got him with. I felt the pain shoot up from my abdomen and up my spine. I bent over the knife and fell to my knees.
"This is John Varvatos, dude." Damon said looking down at the hole in his shirt. "Dick move."
Sam's POV:
"I just can't get the dream out of my head." I shook my head at Elena as she made coffee for the family. "It felt so real. Like I was actually in a horror movie."
"How did you say it ended?" Elena asked again, looking at me from leaning on the counter.
"Someone grabbed me and then I woke up." I shrugged my shoulders. "I don't remember who was in my dream, but they sure scared me." I sighed before putting my head into my hands and rubbing my face to wake myself up more.
"Maybe it's your self-conscious telling you to stop eating ice-cream in the middle of the night or you'll die." Elena joked lightly with a laugh.
I looked up at her with a small smile. "Ha. Ha. Funny." I rolled my eyes but laughed with her.
"Hey girls." Jenna greeted with a smile as she came into the kitchen.
"Hey, Aunt Jenna." Elena greeted.
"Hey, Jenna." I waved my hand at her as she turned on the TV.
"To repeat, the animal terrorizing Mystic Falls has been caught." I heard the TV say and I looked over my shoulder to see Logan Fell describing a mountian lion they caught earlier this morning.
"Scum ball." Jenna muttered. "Scum bucket."
"Who are you talking to?" Elena asked looking over at her aunt.
"Him." Jenna nodded her head to the TV and I laughed lightly.
"The news guy?" I questioned with a laugh in my voice.
"Also known as Logan 'Scum' Fell." Jenna shook her head before looking over at the both of us. "Did your mom, or your dad," She looked at me. "Ever tell you why I moved away from Mystic Falls?"
My dad used to babysit Jenna when she was younger. They grew up together until Jenna moved away from Mystic Falls. He never spoke of it after she left, and I never asked.
"You're kidding." I said putting two and two together. Jenna left because of Logan Fell, the news guy.
"You and him?" Elena asked laughing. "He's cute." She commented. I looked back at the TV and nodded along with Elena. He was kinda cute, I guess.
"He is not cute." Jenna shook her head. "There's nothing cute about him." Jenna looked back at Elena and raised her eyebrow. "What are you doing with that?" She nodded towards the box that Elena started going through. Earlier this morning, she asked me to help her get the box from upstairs to the kitchen. It was interesting to say the least.
"I went yesterday and got it from the safe deposit box. Mom had told Mrs. Lockwood she would loan it to the founder's council for their heritage display." Elena explained.
"That reminds me. Dad promised the same thing. I have to find his ring." My dad always wore this big and tacky ring that had a large blue stone in the middle. I always wondered why he loved that ring so much, but never got around to it.
"Do you know where it is?" Elena asked as Jenna started looking through the box over her shoulder.
"I'm pretty sure." I shrugged. It has to be somewhere in my room.
"Is that Grandma Beth's wedding ring?" Jenna asked picking up a small ring.
"Originally, it was Great-Grandma Mary's wedding ring." Elena explained looking at the silver jewelry.
"It's beautiful." I said looking at the ring that Jenna placed onto the table.
Jeremy came into the kitchen and looked into the box. "How much do you think this stuff is worth? You know, like on eBay?" He asked not looking up at us.
"You're not going to find out." Elena snapped taking the small object that Jeremy picked up.
"This stuff is mom and dad's. You can't just give it away." Jeremy shook his head at Elena.
"Says the one who just asked how much it was all worth." I rolled my eyes as I jumped onto the island counter.
"Shut up, Sam." Jeremy snapped over at me.
I opened my mouth to retaliate, but Elena cut me off. "I'm not giving it away. It's called a loan, Jeremy."
The doorbell decided to ring at that moment and I jumped up from the counter and ran over to answer the door. I heard Elena laugh after me, but I ignored her as I opened the door. Stefan stood on the other side with a smile on his face. I reach for his hand and pulled him into the house.
I leaned up onto my toes and kissed him lightly on the mouth. "Hi." I said pulling away with a smile.
"Hi." He answers with a chuckle.
"Come on. We can go into my room." I said with a laugh.
I slipped my hand under Stefan's shirt and he flipped us over so that he was on top. He pulled away from my lips and started leaving small kisses along my neck. I felt the moan escape my lips before I had control over it. Stefan stopped kissing my lip and placed his forehead on my collarbone.
"Maybe we should stop." I said breathless. I felt Stefan nodded slightly on my neck before he sighed and looked up.
"Yeah, you're probably right." He said moving off of me. I sat up still out of breath. "That was getting a bit..."
"Steamy." I answered with a laugh.
"Yeah." Stefan nodded in agreement.
I got up from my bed and over to my window. I opened it slightly and turned around with a smile, looking at Stefan. "How well can you pull off a tux?" I asked.
"I can pull one off." Stefan said with a nod and a small smile gracing his lips.
"How about tomorrow night?" I said smiling and walking over to him. "Will you go as my date to the Founder's Party?"
"They still do that?" Stefan asked looking up at me because he was still sitting down on my bed.
"Have you been before?" I asked thinking about how he moved when he was younger.
Stefan shook his head. "No, the Salvatore's don't get invited anymore."
"Well, consider yourself invited." I said laughing. I placed my hands on Stefan's shoulders as he wrapped his arms around my lower waist. "This year, there's this heritage project that meant a lot to my dad. He was a big part of the founder's council, and this was one of his favorite parties. I know it sounds boring, but-"
"I would be honored to accompany you, Miss. Markley." Stefan interrupted me with a small smile on his face.
I smiled down at him before placing my forehead to his. "The pleasure is all mine, Mr. Salvatore."
I walked downstairs just as Elena opened the door to whoever was knocking. I looked over the banister slightly to see Tyler on the other side of the doorway, waiting patiently.
"I'm here for my mom." Tyler says looking at Elena. "I was supposed to pick up a box of stuff."
Elena nodded her head and grabbed the box that was sitting on the floor in front of the stair railing. "Right here. Please be careful."
Jeremy came up behind Elena and glared down at Tyler. "Yeah, be careful with it, dick."
"Hey!" I shouted with a glare. I walked down the stairs and got up behind Jeremy. "Grow up, Jeremy."
"Not now, okay, guys?" Elena said looking between the two. She shook her head at me before sighing and going back into the kitchen.
"I'm fine. He's just being a punk." Tyler said to me but pointed at Jeremy.
"I got your punk." Jeremy glared with venom in his voice and I rolled my eyes.
"Jeremy, stop. Look, Tyler, maybe you should go. Tell your mom we'll see her tonight." I said looking at Tyler. He nodded his head and I turned around and walked into the kitchen to wait for Bonnie to get here.
"Delicate Flower vs. Naughty Vixen." Bonnie offered while she read the labels on the nail polish.
"Tough call." Elena hummed and looked up from the dishes that she was doing. "Can we mix them?"
"I'll go with Delicate Flower. No need to mix for me." I said with a laugh. Bonnie passed me the light pink nail polish.
"Look at you, Sam. Getting all pretty for your date." Bonnie smirked with bright eyes over at me. Elena looked over at Bonnie with a raised eyebrow. "Don't worry, you're still my girl." Bonnie winked over at Elena.
"I'm your date, I should be." Elena laughed as she started the dish washer and turned around to look at us.
"Tonight's going to be a good night." I nodded with a smile. "But don't let that stop you from telling me what you've been holding back since you've walked into this house." I watched Bonnie's facial expressions go from happy to hiding something in a matter of seconds.
"And they say I'm the psychic." Bonnie muttered under her breath before looking up at me. "What if I tell you in the morning? I don't want to ruin the night."
I looked over my shoulder and shared a look with Elena before we both looked back at Bonnie. "Bonnie, out with it." Elena sighed.
"Okay," Bonnie sighed. "But it has to go in the vault, because Caroline will kill me if it gets back to Damon that she squealed." Elena and I shared the same head nod before Bonnie continued. "Apparently, Stefan has a very interesting back story."
I gave Bonnie an inquired look. "Right." I said not getting really believing anything only because it came from Caroline, and if it came from Caroline, it came from Damon.
"Did you know what happened with his ex-girlfriend Rena? And with her sister Katherine?" Bonnie asked looking at me.
"I've heard parts of stories. I know that Damon dated Katherine and Stefan dated Rena." I shrugged my slender shoulders.
"Yeah. I guess the sisters both went after Stefan, and only Katherine went after Damon. I guess it drove Stefan crazy with jealousy that Katherine was barely paying attention to him that he did horrible things to try and break them up. He manipulated Katherine and Rena. He filled their heads with all these lies until finally it worked, and he turned Katherine against Damon." Bonnie shrugged as she finished her story.
"That sounds a little one sided, don't you think?" I said with slanted eyes. "And by one side, I mean Damon's side."
"I just wanted you to know." Bonnie shrugged her shoulders.
"I know, thank you." I smiled at the dark haired teen. "Anyways, his past relationship aren't my business."
"Unless he's a calculating, manipulative liar. That is your business." Bonnie pointed out lightly, or she tried to be light about it but it just made my eyes slant again.
"Well, then it's my job to figure it out by myself." I said opening the nail polish bottle and starting on my nails.
"I guess so." Bonnie sighed before going back to her nails.
I just finished the last curl in my hair when Elena's phone started ringing. I looked in the mirror to see her excusing herself and then leaving the bathroom and into her room. "Hello?"
"So, how are you and Stefan?" Bonnie asked wiggling her eyebrows.
I gave her a genuine laugh before answering, "Good. How's finding your boy-toy?"
Bonnie sighed. "Not so good."
"What do you mean? It is? Are you sure?" Elena paused in talking, probably listening to whoever she was on the phone with, talk. I stopped fixing my hair as I listened to Elena's phone conversation and I saw Bonnie doing the same. "'Cause I saw it. Let me check." Elena hummed in agreement. " I will find it and bring it. Okay. Yeah, let me get her." Elena turned around and passed me the cellular device before leaving the bathroom with Bonnie calling after her to see what was wrong.
"Hello?" I said into the phone, not even knowing who was on the other line.
"Hi, Sam. It's Mrs. Lockwood." Carol said over the phone.
"Oh, hi." I saw Bonnie come back into the bathroom and I put the phone on speaker as I waved my hand for her to close the door lightly. "What's up?"
"I was going through the box that Tyler received from Elena, and I noticed that your dad's ring was missing." Carol said with a 'tsk' voice, like she was disappointed in me or something. "I was wondering if you knew where it was so we could put it on display."
Bonnie furrowed her eyebrows and I shrugged my shoulders. "I would have to look for it, Mrs. Lockwood. I think I know a few places it might be."
"Oh, wonderful! If you could get it to me by tonight that would be great!"
"I'll try my best." I said not really believing in the words I was saying.
"Thanks, dear. Bye." She hung up the phone before I had a chance to say 'bye' back. I locked Elena's iphone before placing it on the counter.
"Well, that was different." Bonnie spoke up with a shake of her head.
"That was Carol Lockwood." I pointed out with a small laugh. Bonnie nodded her head in agreement as Elena came back into her bathroom.
She held up a pocket watch that her dad use to carry around everywhere with him when we were younger. "A pocket watch." She said shaking her head. "All this for a pocket watch." She repeated before getting back to her makeup.
"I heard it all for a ring." I said agreeing with Elena.
"Are you going to give it to her?" Elena asked looking at me through the mirror.
I shrugged my shoulders. "I'm not sure. I mean, I know my dad would have wanted them to have it to put on display because I guess the ring went down through generations in the Markley family. But I'm not sure I want to give something that meant that much to my dad away. I might just hold onto it for something to remember him by." I shrugged again.
I saw Elena look down at the pocket watch that was in her hand before shaking her head with a sigh and getting back to fixing her hair.
I slipped on my black strappy wedges that went perfectly with my black dress. It had cut outs across my toned stomach that was covered with a thin piece of cloth. The dress was all black and ended just as it reached my thighs. (Outfit on Polyvore) I placed my black leather jacket over my arm before heading out of my room.
I saw Elena close Jeremy's door and I gave her an inquired look. She sighed before answering, "I gave Jeremy the pocket watch back." Elena explained quietly. She was already dressed in her long strapless dress.
"What made you change your mind?" I asked as I leaned against the banister.
"You." She answered looking at me from the wall. "What you said earlier in the bathroom, about having something to remember your dad by. It got me thinking that Jeremy should have something to remember our dad by. It was suppose to go to him when he turned 16 anyways." Elena sighed as she sat up straight from leaning against the wall. "Anyways, are you ready to get going?" She asked as she looked down at my outfit choice.
I nodded my head softly. "Yeah. I'm ready."
I looked around at the people lining up to get into the Lockwood's mansion and shook my head. "This is crazy." I whispered over to Stefan.
He nodded his head agreeing with me. "Who knew so many people were history buffs like me." Stefan winked down at me and I laughed as we walked up the stairs to the entrance of the Lockwood mansion.
"Sammy Markley!" I heard the Mayor yell over the crowd of people in the entrance way. I smiled at the aging man, he was my favorite out of Tyler's parents.
"Hi, Mayor." I smiled brightly.
"Is this your date?" He said looking over at Stefan and I's entwined arms.
"Stefan Salvatore." Stefan introduced himself before holding his hand out for the Mayor to shake.
"Mayor Lockwood." The Mayor shook Stefan's hand before waving at the both of us to come into the house. "Come in, enjoy the party." He smiled at the both of us before looking back at the next group of people coming into the mansion.
"That went better than I expected." I laughed over at Stefan. He nodded his head in agreement with me.
"Come on." I said pulling Stefan's arm gently. "Let's go see the heritage room. I bet Elena's in there." I said looking through the hallways trying to find the main reason why I came here in the first place.
Stefan and I finally reached the heritage room and we walked in together to see that I was right in assuming that Elena was in there already. I guess she lost Bonnie because her date was no where to be seen.
"Hey guys." Elena greeted as she noticed that we were advancing towards her.
"Hello, Elena." Stefan greeted lightly while I just smiled at my best friend.
I looked down at what Elena was looking at, before we came and interrupted her, to see that she was looking at her parents wedding rings. "I always loved your mom's wedding ring." I said admiring the simple diamond with silver bedding.
I heard Elena sigh as she looked down at the rings. "Me too." She agreed.
I looked around the room for a change in subject. "There's a lot of history here." I putted out simply like it wasn't obvious enough. An old piece of paper caught my eye and I smiled before making my way over to it. "Look the first registry." I said as I looked at all the names. I felt Elena and Stefan look over my shoulder at the names.
"'The founding families in Mystic Falls welcomes you to the inaugural founder's council celebration.'" I quoted the text from the browning paper.
"Look," Elena pointed on the bottom of the paper. "It's the original guest registry." She smiled slightly. "Look at all these familiar names. Sheriff William Forbes. Mayor Benjamin Lockwood."
I gave a snort as I looked at the next name. "Fredrick Markley IV." I shook my head at my ancestor's name.
"Is that Damon and Stefan Salvatore?" Elena asked as we got to the bottom of the name list.
I turned my head to look up at Stefan but a voice interrupted us, "The original Salvatore brothers." Damon's voice rang out through the quiet room. I looked over at him and Caroline as they entered the room further to come closer to us. "Tragic story, actually."
"We don't need to bore them with stories of the past." Stefan shook his head at his older brother.
I reached down and grabbed Stefan's cool hand into my own. "It's okay, Stefan." I turned my head to look at Damon. "I'd love to hear the story."
"Well, I'm bored." Caroline rolled her eyes. "I want to dance and Damon won't dance with me." Caroline complained with a small pout on her face. Damon hummed in agreement and I shook my head at me. "Could I borrow your date?" Caroline asked looking over at me before glancing at Stefan and I's hands that were locked together.
"Uhm..." I started not really knowing what to say.
"I don't really dance." Stefan said shaking his head at Caroline.
"Oh, sure he does!" Damon smiled at his younger brother. "You should see him." He looked down at me momentarily. "Waltz, the jitterbug, the moonwalk. He does it all."
"The moonwalk, huh?" I said with a slight laugh as I looked up at Stefan. He shook his head in disagreement at me before looking back at his brother.
"You wouldn't mind if I borrowed him, would you, Sam?" Caroline asked once again. I wasn't exactly sure why she wanted to dance with Stefan so bad. She could easily find someone else to dance with that wasn't my boyfriend.
"It's up to him, Care." I said using her nickname for what felt like forever.
Stefan looked like he was about to say no when Caroline interrupted him, "Well, sorry. I'm not going to take no for an answer." Caroline reached forward and grabbed Stefan's arm and pulled him away from the three of us that were left- Elena, Damon and I.
I watched as Stefan followed Caroline reluctantly as I felt the tingling in my hand go away from the absence of Stefan's hand.
I sighed as I turned back to Damon and Elena. "I want to apologize to you for being such a world-class jerk the other night when I tried to kiss you." Damon said looking down at Elena. She told me about this the next night after the football game. To say I was shocked would be the understatement of the year. "There's no excuse. My therapist says I'm... acting out, trying to punish Stefan."
"For what?" I said looking up at Damon, curiosity getting the best of me.
"It's all in the past." Damon shook his head. "I don't even want to bring it up. Let's just say that the men in the Salvatore family have been cursed with sibling rivalry." Damon looked back at the original registry. "And it all started with the original Salvatore brothers." Damon looked back down at me. "The Salvatore name was practically royalty in this town. Until the war. There was a battle here-"
"The Battle Of Willow Creek." I interrupted thinking back to history class just last week.
"Right." Damon nodded smiling down at me.
"We know." Elena said making Damon look down at her. "We talked about it in class. Confederate soldiers fired on a church with civilians inside."
"What the history books left out was the people that were killed- they weren't there by accident. They were believed to be union sympathizers. So some of the founders on the confederacy side back then wanted them rounded up and burned alive. Stefan and Damon had two people they loved very much in that church. And when they went to rescue them, they were shot. Murdered in cold blood." Damon explained with a chilling voice.
"Who was in that church?" I asked quietly breaking Damon out of his thoughts.
"Two women, I guess." Damon shrugged lightly. "Doesn't it always come down to the love of women?"
"I'm sorry about this thing that you and Stefan seem to be boiling between the two of you." I said sincerely. "I just can't get in the middle of it, okay? But I do hope that things work out for your favor."
"I hope so, too." Damon nodded his head looking at me.
I search the dance floor for Stefan and Caroline before finding them around the drink bar. I walked up behind Stefan before covering his eyes with my hands. "Guess who?" I said in a low voice, trying not to laugh.
"Hmmm... Elena?" Stefan guessed humoring me, even though we both know he knew it was me.
"Wrong." I said pulling my hands away before he turned around and smiled down at me.
He laughed before pulling me into my side and kissing the top of my head.
"What'd we miss?" Damon asked coming closer with Elena following behind him. Stefan dropped his arm from around my shoulders and grabbed my hand instead.
"We were just chatting." Stefan said looking over at his brother. "Drink, Damon?" Stefan offered a drink from the table.
"No, thanks." Damon shook his head with a slight glare in his eyes. "I'll pass."
"I'll take it." I said trying to stop the brothers from glaring at each other. It worked. Stefan looked down at me before handing me the drink. I took a light sip and sighed at the contact of the alcohol and my throat.
A boy from Elena and I's English class came over and asked if she wanted to dance. She nodded her head before taking off with him. I looked up at Stefan and smirked at him. "Stefan, do you think you have one last dance still in you?" I asked with a light tug on his hand.
"Absolutely." Stefan nodded before we took off onto the dance floor. He spun me around before pulling me to his body. I grinned up at him before leaning my head on his collarbone. I started humming to Adore You by Miley Cyrus playing in the background.
I felt Stefan hug me closer and I smiled as we danced to the song. A perfect way to end a weird night.
"I hope Damon didn't drive you and Elena too crazy." Stefan commented as the song ended and another song started playing in the background. It had a fast beat, but Stefan and I didn't let go of each other.
I shook my head against Stefan's shoulder. "No, he was on good behavior. He even apologized to Elena and explained the way he is." I could practically feel the eye roll that Stefan did. I thought about Rena and Damon words: 'Doesn't it always come down to the love of a woman?'
"Tell me about her." I said quietly against Stefan's neck. I heard him hum in question. "Rena. What was she like?" I asked pulling back to look at Stefan's face.
He dodged my gaze and looked above my head. "It's not something that I like to talk about."
I sighed quietly while nodding. "I understand." I reached up and pulled his head down to look at me. "I want you to know that you can. I burden you with my drama, and I want you to know that you can do the same."
"I know." Stefan nodded as he leaned into my hand. "Thank you."
"The truth is, Stefan... I don't know that much about you and I would really like to get to know you and for you to open up." I explained lightly dropping my hand back to my side.
Stefan pulled away. "Damon said something, didn't he?" Stefan asked loudly. He shook his head quickly. "He liked to play games and cause trouble, Sam."
I placed my hand on Stefan's shoulder to stop him. "This isn't about Damon. It's about me trying to get to know you." I shook my head as I dropped my head. "You're the mystery guy, Stefan. And I like that. But with mysteries comes secrets, and with this thing with Rena..."
"Let it go. I don't want to talk about it." Stefan said quietly.
"Then tell me something about yourself." I paused before I turned my voice to a pled. "Anything?" Stefan still didn't say anything. "Then I'm just left with nothing but what other people tell me."
"Don't you see what Damon has done here?" Stefan said pointing between the two of us. "He's trying to get you to turn against me."
"Stefan, I'm not turning against you." I sighed sadly. "But I can't keep making myself believe that everything is alright when I don't know who you are." I turned away from Stefan before he could answer, I needed to breathe and the dance floor wasn't allowing me to breathe.
I had found Bonnie and Elena eating some ice cream on the couch inside, before I decided to join them.
"This is my fault." Bonnie said looking over at me as I ate another scoop of ice cream. I had just finished telling them both the conversation between Stefan and I. "I planted doubt. I'm a doubt planter."
"It's not your fault, Bon. I just... I feel terrible because I said that I wouldn't get in the middle of it, and then that's exactly what I did." I shook my head with a humorless laugh. "I got all snooty."
"You have a right to want to know about him, Sam." Elena said over Bonnie's shoulder. I nodded my head with a sigh.
Carol Lockwood walked over when she noticed that Elena and I were sitting together. "Elena and Sam! I've been looking for you both everywhere! I noticed that the Gilbert watch and the Markley ring still aren't in the collection."
"I wasn't able to find it Mrs. Lockwood. I think it's still in my dad's things." I explained lightly, lying through my teeth.
"Yeah, I guess the watch is still packed up." Elena nodded along with me.
"I see." Carol nodded her head. "Well, please let me know if you do find it." She pleaded.
"Okay." Elena said as I nodded. Carol looked at us both before turning around leaving. I sighed before leaning my head on Bonnie's shoulder.
I pulled my hair out of all the pins and shook it out over my shoulders. I pushed the door to the bathroom open and saw Caroline fixing her makeup. I nodded at her as I sighed. I couldn't reach the last pin and it was giving me a headache.
"Hey." Caroline nodded back. "So how are things with Stefan?" Caroline asked looking at me from the mirror.
I mentally rolled my eyes. "Great." I answered even though as I said it, I knew it wasn't completely true.
"Really? Well, my radar must be off, because I was getting all sorts of other vibes." Caroline said fixing her lip gloss. "And those vibes are always right."
I glanced over at Caroline when I saw a red mark on her neck. "What is that?" I asked getting closer to her.
Caroline hummed in question as I reached for her scarf. "Don't!" Caroline shouted and pulled away.
"Caroline, what happened?" I asked as I looked at her through the mirror.
"Nothing, okay?!" Caroline yelled.
"That is not nothing!" I shouted back as I pulled her sleeve to her sweater down to see another bite mark. "This is a serious matter!"
"No! I'm fine!" Caroline shook her head before leaning back into the mirror. "My mom would kill me." She said under her breath, but I heard her loud and clear.
"Did Damon do that?" I asked more civil with her.
"No! Of course not!" Caroline shook her head. "Just leave me alone, okay, Sam?" She snapped before leaving the bathroom in a rush. I glared as I watched the door swing back and forth before running out the bathroom to find Damon.
I searched everywhere inside and Damon was no where to be found. I made my way outside and I spotted him instantly. I glared as I made my way over to him. As I got closer to him, I pushed him into the table with all the drinks- most of them falling over.
"Woah-"
"Listen here, Damon! There is something seriously wrong with you." I started with a shout. "You stay away from Caroline or you will have to deal with me, or worse her mother, the sheriff. You got that? Stay away from her. And stay away from me." I growled before pushing him away and leaving in a huff. I didn't get everything off my chest but I knew that if I stayed near him, I would regret it.
I found Stefan overlooking the backyard and I walked up close to him. "I take it all back. You're completely right about Damon." I glared over my shoulder at where Damon still was.
"What did he do?" Stefan looked down at me with wonder clear on his face.
"Caroline is hurt because of him. Bruises and bite marks all over her body. Not to mention, she is messed in the head because of him." I huffed looking up at Stefan. He didn't look surprised. I voiced my thoughts and Stefan sighed.
"Uhm... I'm handling it." Stefan says awkwardly.
"How, Stefan? Because it seems to be still happening." I narrowed my eyes up at him.
"Sam, please. I... I don't expect you to understand." Stefan said pleading.
"I don't understand anything, Stefan. Why don't you clear that up for me?" I said crossing my arms.
"Look, there are things that you don't know, okay? Things that I want to tell you, but I can't- and I may never be able to. I just need you to trust me." Stefan said lightly down at him, trying to get me to understand.
I shook my head and stepped away from him. "Trust is earned, Stefan. I can't just magically trust you when I know nothing about you." I said bringing up the conversation from earlier.
"I'm so sorry." Stefan said shaking his head.
I shook my head back at him before turning around and leaving him there. I didn't turn around. I needed to get home.
I didn't stop to talk to anyone when I got home, I knew that Elena was still at the party looking for Caroline. As I was driving home, I called her and told her what happened and that I was leaving. She told me that she would bring Caroline home after she found her.
I entered my room and locked the door. I changed quickly before jumping into my bed and slamming my head into the pillows. I wanted to scream, but instead I cried.
I didn't know why I cried, I didn't feel the need to before now. But all this stress and drama just got to me, and I let it out before I fell asleep with the song, Adore You stuck in my head.
Poor Sam :(
