Kuki walked next to her best friend with her arms behind her as she attempted to think of a way to cheer her up. Tomorrow was her birthday and they hadn't seen the boys since the day that all of them were supposed to go to the movies. Part of her wanted to simply beat them up, especially Wally. He was the one pushing to hang out in the first place and now they weren't anywhere to be seen. He certainly deserved a beating for making Abby look so melancholy.
"Ah, don't worry about it, Kuki." Abby spoke up as if she could read her friend's mind. "Let's go check the treehouse one more time." Kuki nodded, clenching her fists in a mix of anger and sadness. The sun was already beginning to set and everything was simply going to end without a final goodbye.
As they got to the base, both of them couldn't help but raise an eyebrow. The place was lit up inside with tons of Christmas lights, yet the boys were still nowhere to be seen.
" Numbuh Five, look! Arrows!" Kuki pointed to bright blue arrows on the floor of the treehouse leading them further in. Exchanging a sure look, the two of them began to follow. The two of them didn't speak until they had gotten close to the top of the treehouse.
"C'mon, Hoagie, they'll be here any minute!" Wally's voice flooded towards them.
"Don't worry about it! We're just about done!" Another familiar voice lingered in after it. Kuki blinked before she glanced at Abby. A small smile had appeared on the girl's face as she turned towards her.
"Let's go see what those two dorks are doing." She stated in an attempted casual tone. Kuki could hear the mixed happiness and sadness in her voice, but decided not to mention it. The two of them got to the top just as Hoagie plugged in one final cord. Behind the two boys a large banner lit up with the words, 'We'll miss you, Numbuh Five.' The smile only increased on Abby's face as she realized that even though it was Numbuh Four's writing none of it was misspelled.
"Numbuh Five!" Hoagie shouted as he both noticed her and proceeded to run over to her with Wally right on his tail. Without slowing down, the two of them tackled her into a hug. "Wait until you see what we prepared for tonight!" Abby laughed as she pushed the two of them off.
"This is what the two of you have been doing the whole time?" She questioned as the two embarrassingly rubbed the back of their heads.
"Duh, you didn't think that we were avoiding you, did you?"
"We wanted to have one final celebration before your birthday." Hoagie turned to Kuki. "Thanks for keeping her busy, Numbuh Three." Kuki punched Hoagie straight into the shoulder.
"You coulda told me, y'know!"
"Awh, enough of that you guys. Let's go celebrate." Abby put in as Hoagie grabbed her arm and Wally grabbed Kuki's arm. Without any questions they brought them over to the coach that was usually inside of the treehouse. Kuki and Abby took a seat while the two boys rushed to put everything in places. Wally pushed to bring over a wagon simply full of sweets and Abby's favourites. Along with it there was several gallons of ice cream that were obvious from the headquarters.
"Everyone comfortable?" Hoagie shouted before quickly flipping a switch. With a large 'pop' noise the sky began to fill with fireworks. Abby watched in surprise as the fireworks began to take shape of past events and memories. The first time that she met Numbuh One and everyone else, Sector V's first mission, the five of them all hanging around in the treehouse, even each Cake adventure. Just as she thought it was about to finish it would light up with another cherished event. Between each set, it gave time for them to speak about them and recall the little parts. Memories from Operation D.O.G.H.O.U.S.E, Operation .P.E.R. It was like her whole time as a Kids Next Door Agent was flashing before her eyes in bright, sparkling lights.
It ended just the day ended and her birthday began. The final scene being the four of them sitting on the couch just as they were. she turned to her three best friends with tears in her eyes. She opened her mouth to talk but choked up on her words. It didn't matter, as she didn't need words. Everyone already knew what she was going to say.
"Guys look!" Kuki shouted suddenly as she pointed up to the sky. Everyone turned to notice a falling star. Suddenly it exploded before their eyes into five smaller ones which quickly began the words 'Happy Birthday Abby, love Nigel.' The four of them stared into the sky full of surprise. They hadn't heard from Niguel since he left. It wasn't possible or allowed.
Abby simply shook her head as she wiped a tear from her eye. "He never was one to follow rules." She joked as the three beside her laughed. She glanced up again just in time to see the words fully fade from the sky. It didn't matter, she knew that she wouldn't forget what they said.
"Hold on, we got one more present!" Wally suddenly shouted as he and Hoagie grabbed the girl's arms again to pull them to a different location. This time it was near the bottom of the treehouse. Deeply carved into it was a misshaped box with the letters Sector V Forever carved on the top of it. Inside the names Numbuh Four – Wally, Numbuh Three – Kuki, Numbuh Four – Hoagie, Numbuh One – Nigel were already planted in. Handing Abby a carving device, Hoagie rubbed the back of his head.
"We thought you should put your own name in." Abby just gave him a small before nodding. Turning towards the tree, she carved her own name in. Pausing for a moment afterwards, she carved the date into it and Numbuh Ones in as well.
"There." The three couldn't agree more; they would do the same when it became their turn. Without words, the four of them left the area and went to head home. Just before they all separated, the four of them put their hands together.
"Kids Next Door, it's been an honour."
