Behind the Certain
Chapter 4: Found
Of all the people Lavi had to be stuck with, in a place like this it had to be Leverrier. It could be worse, he thought to himself, could it be worse? Lavi rethought, shaking his head.
"Have you any idea where we are, or how we got here?" Asked the inspector.
"I'm not exactly sure how we got here, but clearly we are still in headquarters." Lavi scratched the back of his head, as he tried put the pieces together.
"Have you seen anyone else around here?" Lavi asked, he wore a blank expression.
"Now that you mention it, I haven't seen anybody here." Said the inspector, "I don't suppose you have seen any other personnel, have you?"
"Nah, not a soul." He says nonchalantly.
"Well then, I suppose we should split up and look for more people."
"You serious?" That's never a good idea, Lavi thought to himself.
"Yes, well we won't find many people with just the two of us. The order is a big place, there are many areas that could be over looked." Leverrier stated.
"I guess." He agreed, seeing that there was no way of changing the inspector's mind. At least he didn't have to spend his time with that creep.
Just as Lavi had predicted, Leverrier went back in the direction of his office. He's hiding something, the Bookmen thought.
Lavi felt alone once again, as wonder the halls. He thought about the documents he read in Komui's office and the in Leverrier's. They brought in a Noah, a Noah that was willing to work with them. The red shook his head this, no way would a Noah do something like that.
Lavi felt something crash into him, knocking him off balance a bit, but it didn't have enough force to knock him over. The person, or rather people who ran into him, were a child with curly hair and a theater mask. She held a pocket watch in her hand. The other person was the Noah of dreams herself Road, why was everyone so small? Lavi thought, than he looked at Road, oh wait she was always that short.
"Hey!" The spiky purple haired girl shouted.
"Oops, did say that aloud?" He asked, offering his hands to help the two young ladies up.
"How come you're the only person here who's normal?" Road asked him, one hand on her hip, the other griping Miranda's right hand.
"I don't know, isn't this place your doing?"
"I-I don't remember, one minute I was on the examination table and the next...we were here." The Noah seemed concerned, her expression told Lavi that she was being honest. Lavi remembered that they were in the science lab, and someone screaming, but nothing else. "I found her," she held on to the child like Miranda's hand. "Trying to get to the top of a staircase, but she kept falling when she was about reach the top."
Lavi looked between the two girls, Road seemed out of character to him. He'll have to figure out this mystery one step at time. He knelt down one knee so that he was eye level with Miranda, he smiled at her warmly. "Miranda, can you speak?" His voice was soft, and gentle.
"Is that why her mask is cracked?" He pointed at the little crack on the chin of the mask.
"No, that happened when she tried to run away from me. She tripped over a foot ball."
The little exorcist put her pocket watch in front of his face, the time read 11:59 but the watch wasn't ticking. The watch was broken.
"I tried to fix it," Road exclaimed. "But it wouldn't budge."
Standing up, Lavi let out an audible sigh. "Now what?"
"How am I supposed to know?"
"Aren't we in your dream world? Can't you get us out?"
Road looked at the floor, hiding her face. "I tried, but it didn't work. I don't know if we are in a dream."
"Then why is everyone either missing or child-like?" Lavi asked himself than to the Noah, and why was Leverrier, Road and Lavi the only ones who are not?
"Maybe we should round the others?" Road suggested.
"Hmm?" Lavi snapped out of his train of thought.
"Should we look for the other tiny exorcist?"
"Yeah, but where do we start? I lost the others one's somewhere near Komui's office. Leverrier is in his office, doing who knows what." He explained.
"You're telling me, of all the people who are normal it's that guy?" Road complained.
"Yup" Lavi said simply, making a loud 'p' sound with his lips.
Road groaned. Lavi grabbed her hand, locking eye with hers, his expression seem light and warm. "Let's go, we're not going to find anything by standing around." He dragged Road and Miranda down the hall, which relieved Road cause she didn't want to see how red her cheeks were.
...
The three walked into the cafeteria, searching for a sign of anyone.
"This is where you said you found them?" Road asked looking in the kitchen, while still holding on to Miranda's hand. Miranda was shacking, she appeared to be fearful. Road looked back at the time exorcist, the girl kept trying itch her hand. The Noah knelt down, and took Miranda's other hand which startled the Miranda. Glancing over her hands, Road notice that Miranda wore rather thick gloves. Once she pulled off one of Miranda's glove, the small exorcist began making a strange noise. This time Road was the one who was started, she looked back at the girl's hand, which had a large scar on it. Road knew exactly how it got there too. "I'm sorry."
Water started dripping from behind Miranda's mask, the soundless cry concerned Road. The girl shook her hands out of Roads, and proceeded to run off. "Hey, come back!" Road yelled after her.
"What happened?" Lavi asked from behind the canter.
The two ran after her, which should be rather easy since she was so small. They rounded the next corner, and were surprised to find someone else.
"What the hell is going on here?"
"Yu?"
