Chapter 4
Relaxing Day
Fifteen minutes later, Tony was in the lobby, waiting for Eostre. He had taken his clothes and a new cell phone from Happy and sent him away giving him a time off. Today he didn't have any meetings so he wouldn't need Happy. Truthfully, he didn't want to show Eostre to him or anyone just yet. It was childish Tony knew it, but he wanted to have something for only himself and he never denied himself anything he wished. He was selfish like that.
She was the first person who hadn't recognized him. Tony was sure of that or she was a first class actress, but even in five minutes he was in her presence, he knew she wasn't like that. First, if she had known she had Tony Stark in her hands, she would have worn fashionable clothes and make-up, making herself as beautiful as possible. In his option, she didn't need any of it. Second, she would have tried to keep him in her room or given him her name and number immediately so he could find her easily but she hadn't done any of that. She gave him her name only after he had asked and she hadn't wished to go breakfast with him. Okay, it wasn't enough reason to believe it, but his gut was telling him she wasn't acting and he trusted his instinct. After all, it saved his life many times and if she did know who he was, she didn't care to act on it. That was enough for him too.
Tony was wearing simple jeans and a black t-shirt, covering his face with a hat and sunglasses. He didn't want to be recognized while he was with Eostre. With hat and sunglasses, even he couldn't recognize himself. Of course, it was sad to hide his handsome face, but you couldn't have everything, right? He had a feeling if he draws attention like usual, she will leave him and not see him again. He was never wrong. Even when he had been with Pepper. His instincts had screamed him Pepper wasn't right women for him and it had proved to be right. He just hadn't listened to it because he had wanted to stop feeling alone. Being alone was worse than torture. Pepper had been different from all the women he ever met and she had known him or he had believed she knew him the best. She was just another failure in his life.
Her betrayal wasn't the first and unfortunately, Tony knew she wouldn't be the last. His workers betrayed him for other companies or more money all the time (and he wasn't a mean boss). He didn't have real friends because they only wanted to use his money and fame. Pepper's betrayal wasn't hard to get over. Yes, she had been closer to him than many, but he had been stabbed from the back by Obadiah whom he had seen as a father figure. No one can beat that.
Obadiah had made a deal with terrorists for killing him. When his plan had failed, he had tried to do it himself, losing his own life by Tony's hand. The man who had watched him grow up since the day he born had tried to kill him so he can own the company. Like he needed more money. He had everything, money, power. After his betrayal, Pepper's was too small. What if she had cheated on him, it was better than wishing him death. Right now seeing her made him angry, but it was something time could heal. Who knew maybe right women was what he needed.
"You really want to have a breakfast with me, hah!" a voice said behind him, making him focus present again.
Standing up, Tony turned around his signature smirk on his face. His savior's beautiful emerald green eyes were twinkling from amusement. It looked like she had thought he would leave. Too bad Tony wasn't called a genius for anything. Only a stupid person lets go an opportunity like that. She was still wearing the same clothes with no make-up. Perfect!
"Who wouldn't?" he asked, smiling cockily.
"A sane person" she replied, her eyes showing what she thought about him. "After all, I can be a mass murderer who is after your life."
"And I can be a scientist who wants to make a horrible experiment on you, but you are coming with me" he fired back, using her words against her. After all, she had allowed a total stranger to sleep in her room and accepted his offer. They can argue who was the sane one all day, but in the end, they were equally crazy for doing this.
"Don't worry about me, I can handle you. The question is can you?" Eostre asked seductively without meaning it. She was the best fighter in Asgard. A mortal wasn't her match. She can kill him easily and hide the body and no one will find him or she can give him to her brothers as a toy. She knew they would appreciate her gift. For the sane part, she believed, it was gone the day she met with death. No sane person can stand or handle him. Her brothers weren't helping her much too. Watching their bickering almost every day was only good for killing brain cells.
"Didn't your parents teach you not to play with fire?" She was swimming in a thin line. He knew she wasn't flirting with him on purposes. She didn't know what she was doing to his body and knowing thus making him want her more. Tony would love to teach her, be her first and last person. She wouldn't be his first, but he will make sure she will be the last. She deserves nothing less. He hoped she wasn't a sociopath or a spy, but if she was, he was the Iron Man. He can handle everything and he was used to be heartbroken. It wouldn't be new.
"No! They encourage me to play with it. After all, I know how to manipulate fire." She replied truthfully. She can control all elements easily and it was something her father proud of her.
Tony shivered. She was awakening different emotions in his body. Something he never felt against a woman before. Excitement! In his life, every woman was the same. They had different hair color, body shape, and face, but their characters were almost the same. Eostre was different from all of them.
"Breakfast?" Eostre asked doubtfully. He was too quiet and he was looking her like, she was the most interesting puzzle in the world. Maybe he had changed his mind after their talk. She hoped it was the case.
"Of course, milady" he offered her his hand.
"Lead the way," Eostre said, not taking his offered hand. Touching someone else was an intimate act for her and he didn't earn her trust even for touching her hand.
The ride was long, but neither of them realized how the time passed. They didn't talk. Neither of them knew what to tell each other or ready to start a conservation. The only sound in the car was loud music. They weren't even heard it. They were in their little world. Tony was paying attention to the road while Eostre was enjoying the view.
Seeing the earth again was amazing. Nothing has changed, except this earth didn't have any magic. It was sad. Looking around and not seeing or feeling the magic. Magic had been earth's little secret. Now it was dull and a little bit boring.
"We are here," Tony said, pointing out a small but elite looking café.
"Sweat" She didn't remember the last time she had something simple. It was in her old life, she was sure of it. As Harriet, she had loved simple things because she hadn't had anything until she had been eleven, but she was a princess now and her family didn't know the word 'simple' even her mother. She got used to living in luxury. It would be a good change for her, enjoying simple things once again, remembering a homely feeling she had loved once upon a time.
"You can die for their pancakes" Tony praised it. He had found here after one of his one night stands. It had been too early and he had been hungry. He hadn't had many options so he had entered the first open café he had seen and he never regretted it. Eostre was the first person he brought here.
"I don't think I will die for a pancake…" opening her door she stepped out. Immediately Tony followed her. "but I can die for a good coffee." Asgard didn't have any coffee or anything similar. Some nights Death had brought her coffees, but it wasn't enough for her.
"I thought you were a tea person. You know being a British" he couldn't help to tease her. When she had said 'she wouldn't die for a pancake', he had believed she couldn't take a joke but she had surprised him again.
"What can I say, I never follow rules" and while she loved drinking tea, coffee was something else and she wasn't British but an Asgardian. Of course Tony would never know this.
"Me neither. It looks like we have many common things, my savior," he emphasized his last word, making an inside joke. He was a savior too. Unfortunately, she didn't know who he was, so she didn't understand it.
"Good for us" she was sure they had different ways of breaking the rules. Tony was the type of man who broke the rules in front of everyone while Eostre broke it without getting caught. They knew she was the one doing it, but they couldn't prove it.
They entered the café and sat an empty seat. Tony only removed his sunglasses. It was odd, but Eostre didn't say anything. It was his business, not hers.
"What can I get you?" the waitress asked without looking them.
"Ladies first"
"Always a gentleman" Eostre purred. Her brothers could learn from him. Scanning the menu, she picked up her breakfast. "Pancake, one blueberry, one chocolate muffin cake with black coffee. I hope you are right with pancakes." Lifting her head from the menu, she looked at Tony, who was looking at her with an unreadable expression. "What?"
Tony's mind was shut down while hearing her order. She was surprising him at every turn in a good way. "Are you sure you can eat all of it?"
"I'm not sharing so order for yourself"
"Same thing except for two blueberry muffin instead of chocolate one" Tony ordered, giving their menu to the waitress. "Black coffee?"
"I love balance. Sweet with little bit bitterness" Even sugar didn't affect her body negatively, Eostre couldn't eat too much without balancing it.
An awkward silence fell upon them. They didn't know what to say or do and it was the first time they felt like that. Whenever they caught each other for looking the other one, they immediately avoided their eyes, thinking something to say but nothing came out of their mouths.
The waitress came back with their orders, breaking the awkwardness.
"Thank God!" Tony whispered without knowing Eostre heard him. He felt like a little boy who couldn't talk with his crush. It was exactly what Eostre was thinking. Thanking the waitress they began to eat.
"Let's play a game" Tony suggested the first thing coming into his mind.
"Like what?" She was open to good ideas. It was better than sitting in an awkward silence because you didn't know what to say.
"Do you know 'dare or truth' game?" It was perfect for knowing each other and fun to play with.
"Truth part, yes but for daring part don't you think it's a bit earlier for that? After all, it's our first meeting. At least wait for the second one" 'if we have one' wasn't said, but her tone was clear about that. She wasn't planning to see him again. Tony needed to change that. "It's your idea so you go first"
'Shit' Tony thought. He believed she will ask first so he can ask the same question. It seems she had the same plan. What to ask? His mind searched for safer subjects such as hobbies, job, relationship, family. Family! It was perfect. He wouldn't mind talking about them too, so it was a win-win situation. "Tell me about your family?"
"I'm living with my parents and two older brothers" her tone was showing how a nuisance her brothers were. "Yours?"
"I can see your pain," Tony said in sympathy, picking her tone clearly. Many used the same tone when they were talking about him. "I'm an only child and I lost my parents" Tony waited for her to say something but nothing came. Death was part of the life, but it wasn't easy to accept it. Eostre knew that. Asking or saying anything will not change his lose. "Your job?"
"Family business. I'm helping my father until my oldest brother takes it from him." She didn't know to rule a world count as a business but it was what they were doing.
"What business?" Tony insisted carefully. He knew she was rich. After all, she was staying in a really expensive suit.
"Nope, it's my turn. I answered yours." She successfully avoided his question for now. "What about you?"
"I create and sell my tools" he simplified what his company was doing.
"Impressive"
"Really?" he asked disbelievingly. Most women didn't care about his job. They only cared for his loaded wallet. Even Pepper didn't appreciate his creations. She just sold them.
"I like creating my own things too, so I know how hard is to make your idea a reality." Of course, she was creating magical tools, spells, runes, and potions but their principle was the same.
"An inventor! I like you more in every second so what are you working at?"
'Shit' she has talked without thinking. She thought human terms for her work. "Medicine and some tools" It was only thought close enough to what she was doing. "You?" she asked digressing the subject.
"Technology, mostly. You should see my workshop," he suggested. Normally, he wouldn't invite anyone in there, but Eostre was different. He didn't know why and didn't care.
"I would love to" Eostre agreed without thinking. She loved creating new things and she was curious what this mortal man was doing.
"It's settled then." After breakfast, Tony will take her to his house. More time to change her mind about him. "Love life?" It was important. After all, Tony was hoping more than friendship and the idea of another man would ruin his dream.
"None"
"You are kidding, right?"
"Why? You would prefer if I have someone in my life?"
"No," he just couldn't believe no one took any interest in her. She was gorgeous and smart. "How this happens?"
"It's my turn, Tony"
"Nope! You asked if I would prefer if you dated with someone so…"
"My father doesn't like the idea of a man in my life and my brothers agree," They thought she didn't know what they were doing but Eostre wasn't stupid. She knew they scared every suitor and it was fine with her. No man has caught her eyes yet so she was glad for their involvement.
'Ouch. Be careful with protective father and brothers' Tony made a note for his future health.
"Your favorite color?"
"Red and gold" he answered without thinking. He designed his suit with this color for a reason.
"Go Gryffindor" she muttered. "Your turn!" she said, seeing his curious look.
"Yours?"
"Blue" she always loved the sky. They were still eating so she needed to ask something. It was so hard. She would prefer to play dare right now. "Favorite food?"
"Everything with blueberry" he pointed out his blueberry muffin. "Tell me about something for all of your family?" he was tired of safe questions.
"Dad is strict but fair. Mum is gentle but fiery. My oldest brother has a good heart, but unfortunately, he acts without thinking and my last brother knows how to have fun and loves to pick on our brother." She told him. "I think we should end our little game. We are almost finished"
"You are right"
She looked at him suspiciously. He had agreed with her too quickly. She felt like she was missing something. His mischievous look wasn't helping her too. Whatever, it was her last time of seeing him so it was okay. How wrong, she was? Tony Stark was as stubborn as herself and didn't take 'no' as an answer.
His house was situated on a cliff, with the sea visible from three directions. It was modernism at its most graceful and revolutionary. It was beautiful. The only problem in his house was Esotre being here. She shouldn't be here, shouldn't see anything but it was too late again. Once again, Tony Stark had won the round and now she was in his house. How did this happen?
After they had finished their breakfast, Eostre had been ready to leave, but Tony had offered her to show his workshop. Of course, she had refused politely. She wasn't here to make friends. Tony hadn't heard her and argued with her, saying she had said she wanted to see his workshop while they had been eating.
"My humble home," Tony said happily, showing his house with his hands. His eyes were shining with pride. He was the one who designed his home and it was the first time, he was excited to show it.
Eostre snorted. "I wouldn't call it humble but it's beautiful" she added after seeing his sad face. Hearing her praise, his face lit up.
"Welcome home, sir!" a British voice said. Her body was alert immediately. She didn't feel anyone in the house. Where was the voice coming?
"It's Jarvis. My artificially intelligent computer. He takes care of everything." He reassured her, after seeing her tense body.
"Hello, Miss?"
"Eostre is fine" How amazing? She didn't know the technology was this advanced on Earth. "Your workshop?" She came here just for that so she will see it before she leaves.
"You will love it" he reassured her excitedly.
The whole downstairs was his workshop. The workshop was where he kept, designed and made his suits. In addition, he also kept most of his vintage and up-to-date cars there. The whole workshop was wired through J.A.R.V.I.S. and Tony could use his hands to control the whole workshop.
Eostre saw metal suits lined the walls and many machines and materials were littering the room. The suits reminded her, her father's own creation The Destroyer. It was an emotionless, speechless, order-driven, metal automaton made by Asgardian magic. It is an empty suit of armor, which can be controlled when one places their consciousness inside it.
"You built them?" she asked, pointing the armors with her head.
"Yep!" He was watching her reaction closely. It will be the deciding factor.
"Amazing" she muttered. Looking closely, she examined every little detail in the armor. It was so different from the Destroyer, but there were some similarities. A human built this machine. No, it wasn't a machine like Destroyer. Armor's size was almost the same as Tony so he was wearing it for something. "Why?"
Tony saw pure curiosity on her face. She didn't look his suit in disgust or greed. He would bet all his money, she didn't recognize Iron Man suit. Good. Her reaction was enough proof of her not being a spy. Even super spy like Romanoff couldn't control her mimics this perfectly. Hearing her question, he tilted his head, silently asking her to clarify her question.
"I mean, why did you build an armor? What do you want to protect?" Everything you pick to use can give away your character, especially weapons.
"Why you believe, I want to protect something?" Tony fired back.
Eostre smiled. Her father created Destroyer for protection of Asgardian vaults. "Armors created for protection. What do you want to protect? Yourself or…" she left an opening for him to fill.
"Earth!" The whole world knew the Iron Man business so why should he hide it from her? After all, she can just google it and she will find it everything.
"A hard goal!" It was also a noble goal. Something she respected. It looks like she miscalculated Tony Stark.
"I'm ready to pay the prize"
"Only fighters pay a prize. Protectors need to live another day so they can continue to make their world safer. Don't forget this Stark" she advised. Being suicidal was a stupid move.
"I'm sure I will survive" After all, he had survived so far.
"While my father and brothers are protective of me, they believed I should know how to defend myself too. First, my father found a good martial arts teacher. He taught me until the day I won against him. Than father picked another. Like, before he was my teacher until I beat him. This vicious circle continued until I began to win my first match. In a fight, no one is stronger than the other one as long as you use your mind. You wish to protect your planet, so I will give you an advice. Never stop your evolution or your enemies will catch you. After all, a weapon can be copied. A mind cannot" Mijolnir was a powerful weapon of her brother Thor and many tried to make a similar weapon. In the end, many strong weapons were created.
She was right. Ivan Vanko was proof of that. While he had been trying to find a way to save himself, Ivan had built stronger armor and a robot army. "Good advice"
"It's your choice to take it seriously or not"
He definitely took it seriously. "I have a great gym."
She got the hint. "I'm not in the mood"
"Tomorrow then"
"You are too sure about yourself. You know this right?"
"You cannot find anything more interesting than me in this country," he said, giving her a cocky smile.
"You knew I met many powerful men and women, but none of them were as interesting as you," Eostre confessed, not looking Tony. Her fingers were tracking unfinished armor on the table gently. The material was strong and light. This human's mind was so different from any man she ever met.
"How old are you to meet so many people as you claim?" Tony asked watching her every move. She was like a magnet drawing his eyes to herself. Watching her fingers caressing his Iron Man suit gently was killing him. He wished to change places with his unfinished armor. How ironic? He was jealous of his own creation.
"Enough to meet so many people. Try guessing Stark. You should know better. Never, I mean never ask a woman her age." She answered, emphasizing never. Normally she wouldn't mind telling him her age, but how could she tell him she was older than the earth itself?
"My bad, but you couldn't fault me for trying," Tony said, raising his hands to show he meant no harm. She was still a mystery to him and he loved it.
She wanted to erase that smile, but unfortunately, she doesn't lie especially to herself. She loved adventure. It was in her blood. Sadly, there was nothing to do in Malibu. Now, she had met an enigma and her curiosity was ruling her mind. "Pick me out"
After reading your reviews, I decided to make Loki good with little issues to solve. Personally, I never hated Loki because I believe Odin and other Asgardians made him like that so Eostre will support him, pushing him to the right path.
OlogyFF101- Tony and Eostre will be together before her vacation is over but Tony will learn who she really is in the Avenger time.
