Author's Note: Well, this is late... But to make up for that this chapter is extra long.
And thanks to CutePiglet for beta-reading again.
Yami slowly opened his eyes and stared at the ceiling. Feeling content, he let his eyes close again, only to snap them open when the fog in his mind had cleared. He quickly looked at the alarm clock. It read; 7.37?! He scrambled out of the bed and quickly put on some clothes he had borrowed from Kaiba. He checked the alarm clock for the second time to see if it really was Tuesday. Confirming so, he ran down the stairs and into the empty living room. Determined to find either, one of the Kaibas or a staff member he half ran, half walked to the kitchen.
"You're late," was the first thing Yami heard when he entered the kitchen. It was the older Kaiba. He was standing against the kitchen counter, sipping his half empty cup of coffee.
"I'm sorry I overslept, I didn-" But Kaiba interrupted him by raising a hand. Yami fell silent and wondered if Kaiba was mad or just plain annoyed. He was about to get his answer when Kaiba snarled,
"Get out." And swallowed another gulp of coffee.
Wait… What? Confused, Yami raised his brow. Out of the kitchen? He took a few steps backwards so he was standing outside the kitchen. "I mean it, get out!" His voice had dropped dangerously low and a pair of cold blue eyes stared darkly at him.
"W-what?" Yami found himself becoming uncomfortable under Kaiba's icy glare. "Why?!" He stepped back into the kitchen, the taller man just smirked.
"That's for me to know and for you to find out," was the simple reply. Yami just glared back at him, but failed to notice the footsteps behind him. He did not expect the hands under his arms that suddenly appeared, they started to drag him off to the nearest exit. He looked to his side and saw that two of Kaiba's security guards were the ones holding his arms.
Yami landed on his butt outside on the porch before he realised it. The guards walked back inside and the door slammed shut behind him. For a moment he just sat there. Then he blinked.
What the hell? Did Kaiba just kick him out? And for no apparent reason either! He got up, turned back around and started knocking rapidly on the door.
"Kaiba! Open the door! You can't just kick me out!" The door stayed closed and no one answered. He knocked once more and swore under his breath.
"You have ten seconds to get yourself off my property or I'll have you removed forcefully," Kaiba's voice spoke through the intercom next to the door. He was about to oblige an answer from Kaiba for all this madness when he heard at least ten pair of feet jogging through the hall of Kaiba's mansion. That's when he decided to start running or he would probably get more than just a bruised behind. When he turned around the corner just outside the gates, he saw Kaiba's security men jogging outside. He only stopped running when he was at least five blocks away from the Kaiba mansion, because he could no longer see the security men chasing him. For a few seconds he stood there, trying to catch his breath. Then it hit him; he had nowhere to go now. He debated whether he should check out the game shop or not; perhaps Sugoroku had stayed home. Having no other options, he decided to just drop by and see what would happen next. He then realised the way to the game shop was exactly where he came from, past the Kaiba mansion. Crap.
About twenty minutes later (and with several encounters of spiders in his hair) he arrived at the game shop, it was still dark inside and Yami decided to wait outside for a little while. After all, it probably was about a quarter past eight right now, but as the minutes passed, Yami started to grow a bit nervous. Sugoroku would open the shop at half past eight and he was never late. More time passed and a newspaper boy passed him.
"Excuse me?" The boy asked. Yami looked up.
"What is it?" He replied slurred, he had almost fallen asleep again in the warm morning sun.
"I'm not sure if you know, but…" The boy hesitated for a second. "The game shop is closed, I believe they've all gone on a trip abroad, even the owner." Yami was silent. So Sugoroku had gone with Yugi-tachi after all.
"When will they be back?" He asked. The boy shrugged.
"Beats me, they've been gone for a while though." The boy walked off and returned to his duties. Yami sighed and got up. What was Kaiba thinking? Kicking him out… he had no money and anywhere to go. He was relieved to hear Yugi had been gone for a while, maybe he could wait for them. If he didn't starve before that at least. As if his stomach had heard him think about food, it started growling. He was suddenly reminded of the fact that hadn't eaten anything this morning.
Damn Kaiba.
Trying to ignore his stomach for now, he started walking around the city, he couldn't hang around the game shop all day. They would think he was some kind of homeless guy. Well I am practically homeless. Yami though bitterly.
Suddenly, Yami heard a few children yelling in the distance. Confused, he turned to the shouting and saw a bunch of kids running his way.
"There he is! Yugi Motou, the King of Games!" One yelled, appearing to be the leader of the little group. Yami's brow twitched.
Fans, and another reason why Kaiba shouldn't have thrown me out. Of course it hadn't been a smart idea to walk around the Centrum of Domino City, he would be recognized as Yugi. "Mr. Motou, can we please have your autograph?" The same kid asked.
"Yes, can we?" Another one squealed. It was a younger girl who held a little notebook and a pen in her hands. Her big brown eyes stared innocently at Yami.
"I'm sorry, I'm not Yugi." He was about to turn around, but several hands grabbed his sleeves and made him look back.
"How can't you be Yugi?! You look exactly like him!" Another boy spoke up, his eyes stared filling with tears of disappointment.
"I just look like him because…" Yami abruptly ended his sentence and made the children look up in surprise. "Because I'm his cousin!" He suddenly blurted out. "Now, I have to go or I will be late for the bus." Yami quickly took off, running in the direction he was going before.
He quickly turned around a corner and kept running to put more distance between him and the Yugi-fans. Before he knew it, he was running into a park, he skidded to a halt when he almost ran into a body of water. He carefully took his surroundings in, he recognized this place. Yugi had picnicked here once before with his classmates. Yami laughed softly at himself. Yugi's cousin, of course. It makes sense though.
It was a very quiet place, and Yami found himself drawn towards a comfy-looking place on the grass in the cool shadow of a tree. The sun had decided to show up and it was getting pretty hot outside. He plopped down on the grass and lay down on it. It was only a matter of minutes before he found himself drifting off to a much needed nap.
He suddenly jolted awaked due to something wet on his face. Quickly looking around, he figured it was a little before dusk and it was raining. No not raining, it was pouring. He had hoped it would be a warm late summer day, but the pouring rain of the oncoming fall proved him wrong. Within a couple of minutes, he was soaked and he found shelter under the largest tree in the park. He leaned against the trunk and wiped the rain of his face. Suddenly he realized he had slept all day under that tree. Weird…
He stood there for several minutes. Luckily it was only a short downpour and it stopped as quickly as it started. He shivered a bit when a light breeze passed him, it was getting chilly outside and his soaked clothes didn't help keeping him warm. He looked around, he needed to find a warm place to stay. Exiting the park, he wandered back into the city.
It was twenty minutes later when he spotted an open bar. He quickly entered it; surprisingly there weren't much people at all. He sat down somewhere in a corner, he tried not to catch too much attention. He wasn't a customer and it was usually not very appreciated if you didn't order anything.
"Hello, do you want something to drink?" A waitress asked him. Too bad, they spotted him. Who wouldn't spot a spiky-haired guy that looks like the king of games, Yugi Motou?
"No thank you, I am just trying to warm up a little. I'll be gone soon," he quickly replied. The waitress shook her head, but let him stay anyway.
"If you want to warm up, then why not take a shot? My treat," a voice suggested behind him, it was a young slender man. He had short brown hair and grey eyes.
"No thanks, I'm fine." He turned back around and faced the wall, but the man grabbed a chair and sat beside him. He looked like he wasn't sober anymore.
"At least drink something warm, you look like you're going to freeze any second!" The man argued once more. "Wait here I'll get you a cup of coffee." The man got up and while tripping over his own feet he walked to the bar. Yami raised a brow, who even was this guy? "Milk and sugar?" He called over his shoulder.
"No, just milk," he answered back, deciding that the man wouldn't leave him alone until he had something warm in his stomach. The man nodded and started talking to the waitress who was making his coffee. A few minutes later he returned with a cup of steaming coffee and a bottle of beer. "Thanks," he mumbled when the man placed the cup in front of him.
"My name is Jim," he introduced himself and held out his hand. Yami shook the hand.
"Yami," he said.
"Your hand is cold Yami." Yami laughed and took a sip of his coffee. This guy helped soothing his nerves.
"Indeed it is," he replied and took another sip of his coffee. Jim sat down in the chair opposite of him, so they were facing each other.
Slowly a conversation formed itself, and he once again introduced himself as Yugi's cousin. He lost track of the time and before he knew it the bar was closing. Both he and Jim stood outside, it had stopped raining in the time he had been inside.
"So I'm going home, need a lift?" Jim asked slurring, he had drunken more since Yami had entered the bar.
"No thanks, I live close by," he lied. First off, he didn't even have a place to go to. Second, he didn't even want to step in a car with someone so drunk.
"Whatever dude, see ya later!" He walked off and stumbled once again over his feet. Yami started walking the other way, he paid close attention to the alleyways next to him. He didn't need someone unexpectedly jumping him. Though, he was so concentrated on that alone he didn't really look where he was walking. Soon he tripping and found himself in a world of darkness…
He shot upright. Soft bed? Check. Familiar Kaiba mansion ceiling? Check. Alarm clock beeping? Check. Helplessly entangled in the sheets and sweating like you've just run a marathon? Check.
He sank back into the mattress. Absently he reached out to the alarm clock and smacked his hand on top of it, shutting it off. He closed his eyes for a while. Why did the alarm go off? Why was he back in the Kaiba mansion? He simply didn't get it, Kaiba had told him to get out, right? And then had him removed from the mansion. He had passed out on the streets, didn't he?
He turned his head to the right so he could look at the alarm clock: 4.15. The same time he had planned to get up yesterday, only this time he hadn't slept through it. Had it all been a dream then? Apparently so, since the alarm clock was showing him it was still Tuesday morning. Confused, he let his eyes droop shut again. Another five minutes of rest couldn't hurt… right?
"Yami, I advice to get your lazy butt out of bed and hurry up, I'm leaving in fifteen minutes!" Yami's eyes shot open again. He heard footsteps retreat back downstairs. It had all been a dream after all…
Exactly seven minutes later, Yami stormed into the living room. Empty… again. Panic welled up and he looked around for any trace of one of the Kaiba's. He walked to the kitchen. At that moment Kaiba walked nonchalant into the kitchen as well and placed his empty cup in the dishwasher. Yami let out a sigh of relief and Kaiba frowned.
"Looks like someone didn't sleep enough last night." He smirked, Yami only grunted in response as he felt embarrassed. Why would Kaiba even leave without him? He didn't need to be in Egypt himself. "Hurry and grab everything you want to bring, you can have breakfast during the flight."
"Kaiba, I don't have any stuff remember?" Yami reminded him, irritated. A small smirk appeared on Kaiba's face.
"I don't suppose you're going to wear the same clothes for multiple days in a row? I might not let you on my plane when we're returning," Kaiba mocked him. Yami huffed a quick "no" and turned his head away. "Your own clothes are cleaned and I looked through some more of my older clothes for something that might fit you, they're in the washroom." The conversation was quickly ended to spare time and Yami gave a quick nod before hurrying back up the stairs.
Absentmindedly he packed the backpack that was conveniently in the washroom as well. His mind was on those words that had sounded so unexpectedly kind. How Kaiba's icy blue eyes had molten slightly when Yami looked back at him. Funny how he noticed those little things now. Kaiba had mentioned 'his' clothes were cleaned, but in fact they were just what Yugi had been wearing on the day of the ritual.
Sigh…
Yugi… how he wished to see him right now. Perhaps he should call him after all. Then he wondered; was their mind link still active? He hadn't noticed anything, not even a sign of his existence, but that could be because he was all the way in Europe. Maybe in Egypt he could reach Yugi. He tried not to ponder too much about it (and failed) and then wrestled with the slightly broken zipper of the backpack.
He made his way back downstairs and saw Kaiba waiting for him ever so patiently. He mentioned to follow him outside where one of Kaiba's limousines was waiting for them. The driver opened the door for them, Yami got in, but Kaiba stayed outside. He was watching the door. Just when he wanted to ask why he was waiting, the door opened again and Mokuba skipped through it. He seemed to be in a very good mood considering the huge grin on his face when he got into the limousine and sat next to Yami.
"Hi Yami!" He greeted happily, his grin never wavering. Yami raised his hand to greet him and gave a slightly nervous smile. Kaiba got in the limousine as well and sat across them. They started driving towards the airport and there fell a silence. He saw Mokuba fidgeting a little and he looked back up to Yami with a bright smile. "So how about I show you what these buttons do?" He said pointing at some control panel. "This one opens the roof." He quickly demonstrated and the roof opened. "And this one…" Yami looked up at Kaiba for a second and gave him an apologizing look. Kaiba just dismissed the gesture by rolling his eyes and then stared out the window.
For the rest of the ride Mokuba showed him what all the buttons did and when he ran out, he started talking about another limousine, which had (surprisingly) even more functions. Yami just nodded once in a while and said 'That's really nice, Mokuba' a few times. They arrived at the airport and Mokuba stopped talking when the driver opened the door for them again. They all stepped out of the limousine and with Kaiba ahead of them, they walked to the private jet.
"Why isn't your brother flying his blue eyes white jet?" Yami asked curiously. Mokuba grinned again.
"It's a two-seater, plus it's in repairs right now anyway," he answered softly. Then he grinned mischievously. "Don't tell Seto I told you this, but…" He quickly glanced at his unknowing brother and then continued. "He crashed it." Yami couldn't help it, but he let out a rather loud chuckle. It sounded so unlike Kaiba. Though his chuckle caused Kaiba to stop walking and he turned his head towards them. He narrowed his eyes when he saw the still evident grin on Yami's face and the innocent face of his younger brother.
"I so hope that wasn't a gossip or I'll-" Kaiba started and had fully turned around to glare at them. He was cut off however.
"Mr. Kaiba?" A man's voice said behind him. Kaiba turned to look at the man. When the man saw Kaiba's glare, he flinched back a little. "I need to know the name of your… companion. Security measures." Kaiba was silent for a few seconds before answering;
"His name is Yami Motou." Yami was astonished, did Kaiba just address him with Yugi's last name? Not that it mattered though, it was not like he had a last name himself. When he looked to his side, he saw Mokuba was also confused by his brother's choice. However the man did not seemed satisfied with his name alone.
"Can I see his identification?" The man asked. A snarl appeared on Kaiba's face and the man shrunk back a little more.
"Are you doubting me, Usagi?!" He had raised his voice angrily and used his height to his advantage to look down at the man, whose name apparently was Usagi.
"N-no, of course not Mr. Kaiba," he spluttered and stepped to the side. "Mr. Motou can pass, your private jet will be leaving in a few minutes." Kaiba gave Usagi a nod and continued walking towards the private jet. Yami and Mokuba followed him, but Yami couldn't help but notice the deep frown on his face and his eyes so cold, he thought he would turn into a frozen statue when Kaiba shot a look at him.
"He seems in a bad mood now," Yami whispered to himself. Too bad Kaiba seemed to have heard him, because he turned around again with narrowed eyes.
"Will you stop whispering behind my back? If you have something to say, just say it!" He glared at both of them. "Well? I don't have all day!"
"I was merely talking to myself, Kaiba. I was just wondering why you're suddenly in such a foul mood," Yami answered truthfully, it seemed like a bad idea to beat around the bush right now, knowing it would only make Kaiba angrier. Kaiba just raised a brow in confusion and then snorted before turning around again.
"So what if I am? I don't need your concern," he simply answered and continued to walk.
No more incidents happened in that time and they (finally) made it to the private jet. The inside was fairly small, and there were only four seats in total. The seats were in pairs of two and facing each other. Mokuba didn't hesitate to choose his seat and sat on the one closest to the back and next to the window. Kaiba followed and sat next to him. Yami sat across from them and next to the window as well. Slowly the jet started moving and they were told to fasten their seatbelts. A few minutes later they were off the ground and Yami looked out the window. The ground was getting smaller and smaller, it didn't take long until they were so high up Yami couldn't see anything outside anymore.
"Breakfast?" He heard Kaiba say when he looked away from the window. He nodded, it seemed Kaiba's mood had turned out a bit better than he thought. He was probably just mad at that guy at the airport. He saw Kaiba press a button somewhere on the side of his seat and a few seconds later, a stewardess walked in from the front of the jet. She stopped in front of them with a huge smile on her face.
"Can I take your order?" She said in a sweet voice.
"I'd like some sandwiches and a glass of orange juice," Yami answered, she nodded and shifted her eyes to Kaiba. However, the look in her eyes had changed, from bittersweet to… flirty? Oh, in the name of Ra… It's one of those… Yami thought and rolled his eyes.
"Water," Kaiba replied, his expression never changing. He was probably used to it, after all he was Seto Kaiba. No doubt he ran into this almost every day. Though he could not help but smirk at Kaiba when the stewardess looked at Mokuba to take his order. Kaiba dismissed it with a roll of his eyes once again. The stewardess walked off with swaying hips but not (of course) without giving Kaiba a wink. When she turned back around he saw Kaiba's brow twitch, though the rest of his face stayed the same.
When she finally disappeared to the front of the jet, Yami let out a soft chuckle. Kaiba's reaction was instant.
"You, shut up." He growled darkly.
"What is it, Seto? I don't understand," Mokuba asked confused, he didn't seem to have picked up on any of it.
"It's nothing, Mokuba," Kaiba dismissed the subject. They went silent and their orders were brought to them by the same stewardess (much too Kaiba's annoyance) who, while placing Kaiba's glass of water on the table, bended over so far that only Kaiba could look into her uniform. Did that woman have no shame at all? Kaiba just growled when she disappeared again and shot Yami a don't-you-even-dare look. Deciding to drop it, Yami picked up his sandwich and took a bite. He ate in silence his breakfast and saw that Mokuba had ordered a glass of lemon juice and a muffin.
"So, you know the evening you arrived? Seto and I were watching this really awesome movie." He paused and took a bite of his muffin.
"Oh really? Perhaps I know it. Yugi showed me a whole bunch of movies together with Jounouchi," Yami answered when he swallowed a piece of his sandwich. Mokuba smiled happily.
"Well, I don't remember what it's called, but it had a lot of awesome explosions in it!"
"Now it really sounds like the movies I've seen," Yami said and finished his sandwich.
"Well, how surprising. The mutt likes action movies," Kaiba spat suddenly, causing Yami to scowl.
"Kaiba! Do you always have to call him that?! Jounouchi is not a dog!" Kaiba didn't seem to be fazed by his words.
"Hn," was his answer and he gazed out of the window, having decided he did no longer want to join the conversation.
"Whatever, I'm going to catch some more sleep," Yami said, suddenly annoyed by Kaiba's behaviour. He kicked off his shoes and curled up into a comfortable position in the seat. It wasn't long until he felt his eyelids become heavy and he drifted off.
Author's Note: SO... because you asked CutePiglet. Yami got spiders in his hair, because he had the sneak past the Kaiba Mansion and through some bushes. xD Idk, just thought it would be funny...
So next chapter, they'll land in Egypt. Time for some actual Prideshipping... maybe...
