Hey, guys sorry for this fanfic not updating for quite awhile. I've been role playing on Tumblr lately and that has sucked up a lot of my time. Speaking of Tumblr, someone on Tumblr found this, apparently. If you're still here, I hope it continues to be good for you.
Thanks to anyone still here and sorry if this is short. I'm honestly amazed that people like this fanfic and want more. Anyway, here is your next chapter!
A couple weeks passed since the day Pein joined Obito. The Akatsuki was being changed by Pein, with the Uchiha's help. However, whenever Obito would ask, Pein would refuse to show him where his true body resided. As if it was some sort of safety measure to not allow the man he just joined to see him again. This was exactly what it was too. There wasn't any trust established, barely any yet, so it was understandable.
One day, Obito would want to actually be able to see the actual Nagato whenever he pleased. He didn't know the condition he was currently in. When he last saw him, the red haired man was in a weakened, and crippled state. Was he worse? He was curious, and maybe a little worried about his condition. He told himself many times by now that he should dispose of these feelings that still remained, but they were sticking. He could, however, ignore them without much problem. It was easier when he wasn't actually around Nagato himself, but instead a walking corpse being controlled by him.
There was also one other reason that Pein wouldn't let him near Nagato, as he learned just recently. Part of the reason was indeed trust issues, but another was the female that followed Nagato, Konan. She had even less trust towards him, learning this from accidentally hearing a conversation between Pein and Konan about keeping him away. Though Nagato's trust wasn't as bad, thanks to their previous encounters, she just helped.
For now, he had to be patient, and wait until he could approach the real Nagato. That wouldn't be a problem. Besides, if he tried to search for him himself, or demand they tell him, that may work towards losing the slight amount of trust they currently had. Even that was incredibly weak in these early stages.
So, months passed after sometime, seemingly very quickly. With all the planning and work they had to do, some days seem to move faster than others, or even slower. The Akatsuki was beginning to get new members, which were going to be composed of S-Rank criminals from all over. Instead of being how Yahiko's organization had been, with only Amegakure shinobi.
Even after all this time, there was never any mention of his real body ever again. Yet there were times he could hear Konan speak of going to see him. But it did seem after a few months, the tense, distrusting feeling when around them seemed to have eased a little. They still weren't relaxed around him though, and he didn't let his guard down for a moment.
Obito was beginning to want to actually see him as more time passed. He was patient, and perhaps he could use this as a way to see how much they would trust him.
So during a meeting, which they seemed to have somewhere in Amegakure most of the time, he decided he'd ask after being silent about it for so long. When he was supposed to leave, he looked to Pein, who was a little confused on why he hadn't left like as he usually did.
"Pein." He started, "I still wish to see your true body, as you have been refusing to allow me to see you, Nagato. Will you allow me now?" Speaking the name that Konan only seemed to say when the two thought they were alone.
The pierced corpse didn't seem to say anything against his real name being mentioned, quiet for now. Pein showed no expression, but Nagato himself was probably thinking about what he wanted, considering.
After a few moments passed, he gave a small sigh, "If you really feel it is necessary, then I suppose." He paused for only a second then continued, "Also, please refer to me as Pein, even when around my...body." It was strange speaking of it, actually. Nagato had begun to feel as if Yahiko's body was his own...So speaking like he was possessing it, which he practically was, felt strange.
Without another word, Obito only gave a small nod of agreement. At least this was a start, and his curiosity would finally leave.
"Konan, please wait here." Pein looked to the blue haired woman, who looked as if she wanted to protest, but only nodded to him, complying. He knew Konan would comment on something or get overprotective of Nagato if she came with. He didn't mind, but he didn't want her constantly doing that.
Pein looked back over to the masked man, before turning and heading out the open way to the balcony of this tall building within Amegakure. He glanced back at Obito once more before jumping out, onto other sides of buildings, expecting him to follow. He stopped at one point, on the balcony of another building, before stepping inside. Only a second later, the other man appeared next to him within the building, having just warped over. Pein had become used to this, whenever they had to meet him somewhere, or head somewhere, he seemed to appear wherever they were. Both of them trying to figure out his abilities over time, thinking it'd be useful if they did. For now though, they kept it subtle they studied him.
The corpse walked only a couple steps further, before pointing at a door, that was protected by a sensory barrier. "I'm in there. Go ahead."
Obito didn't need to say anything more, only walking over to the door. Once he stepped through the barrier, he could sense a large amount of familiar chakra behind it. The barrier must also hide his chakra. That is how he hid himself for so long...He thought, but didn't take too much longer to open the door and stepped inside.
What he first saw, was some large contraption within the room, that looked as if it had legs. He only had to look up a little to see the one he came here to see, Nagato.
He didn't have any sort of shirt or covering on over his chest, so the fragile, thin body was obvious. It wasn't too bad though, but the more energy he used, the worse it'd probably get. His breathing, by looking at his chest movements, seemed to be a little rough. His condition could be a lot worse, and it didn't become worse than when he last saw him.
Obito almost said his name, but he didn't. "Pein...This is your current condition, in your real body?" His voice like it usually was. Even though inside, he wondered if his condition would get any worse if he continued like this...
The weakened man looked up, and nodded very slightly. "Yes...But it doesn't matter...As long as I can continue on in some way, it's fine." He wouldn't admit his suffering, the pain he was in. At times, it hurt to breath, and he had to be careful about the amount of chakra he used.
"I see..." The Uchiha could tell he was in pain, even though Nagato was not admitting it. He'll just get worse, within time. He could still use Pein and be useful, yes, but he didn't wish for him to suffer.
"I've shown you where I am and my current condition...Is that all?" Nagato tried to be as polite as he could, but honestly, he never felt comfortable with someone else in the same room with him while he was like this.
"No...nothing else." Obito was satisfied enough with learning his location. Seeing as he knew...maybe he could visit himself, when Konan wouldn't try to stop him. He turned his back to him while saying, "You still know what to do next, right? You should get to work on that." After, he simply left the room. Ignoring Pein, who did the same as he began to head back to Konan.
As Obito was warping elsewhere, he began to think of a way he could possibly improve his condition...For the sake of keeping him around as his pawn, of course.
