Chapter 4: just more questions
"Duncan we recieved your other two recruit just a couple days ago I didn't know you had another..." the king said turning to me, but had remained silent instead of speaking to me and embraced me into a hug one that wasn't of friendship and that had confused me as my hands laid on his chest loosely the tears I thought could hold back came forth and I sobbed onto his armor. "Lia what's wrong?" he asked his voice filled with worry I couldn't speak so Duncan did for me.
"Her Family was betrayed by a close friend of theirs" he said his voice grim Cailan looked to Duncan searching his eyes for any hint of a lie, but there as not.
"You tell the truth who was that betrayed them?" he asked perplexed, however, Duncan didn't respond I did
"Arl Rendon Howe betrayed my father" I said choking back a sob pulling away from Cailan I knew he didn't want to let me go, but he kept me at arms length.
"Rendon Howe will hang for his Treachery that is all I can do for mind of ease right now Amelia " he said his voice soft.
"Thanks Your Majesty" I said bowing to him Cailan laughed
"Just Cailan from you Lia" he said I looked up at his face when he said the childhood nickname that he had given me so long ago "But I must go Loghain presses that I go over battle plans with him, but Lia I need to find time to talk to you about something it is rather important to me" Cailan finished and then walking away.
Duncan looked towards and I shooked my head I'd explain it when I'm ready to tell and Duncan took it as that we walked to the bridge and had explained a few things to me before saying "find Alistair and the other Recruits and meet by the bonfire area of the main camp" he stated whistling for Syos to follow I allowed it for some reason Syos was at calm with Duncan and at first I was surprised by it, but soon smiled upon it realizing my feelings could never stop showing regardless the heartbreak I was dealt. I went across the bridge and immediately bumped into someone who immediately spoke up about it.
"hey! " the guy said taking a step back
"sorry my bad" I said remaining where I stood
"no that was mine I now realize the names Kelaos" Kelaos greeted and apologized
"Amelia" I replied with a small smile of my own I also realized the man was a mage and also the a recruit for the grey wardens.
"hey I was in the process of finding someone care to join?" he asked
"sure I'm sure it'll be easy for the two of us" I said with a smile "However are you sure you weren't looking for something else other then a person?" I finished
"Uhh yea I was looking for more earthroots, but that can wait..." he said
"Let's go unearth some earthroots then " I said walking back across the bridge Kelaos followed after me we got to the other side of the bridge and Kelaos started speaking again.
"I met the King when I got here he's seems like he knows what he's doing " he said finding an Earthroot
"He's the king...he has to make dire decisions to make any battle go to his favor" I retorted finding a deathroot. Kelaos looked at me he could tell I was hiding something but he shrugged it off thinking I would tell on my own time after picking up a few plants Kelaos and I sat down to chat a bit more before finding the others. I looked towards the mage he seemed to be lost in thought as in thinking about what he should do with the herbs he had gathered.
"you can make poltices with them if you wanted" I said leaning back into the grass
"oh I know I just thinking about what else I can make out of them" he said putting the herbs into his bags that he carried.
"You don't know anyone here do you?" I questioned kindly he shooked his head no that he didn't and I got up to my feet and dusted off my pants and then held out my hand to him to grab and he took it.
"Do you know people here?" he asked raising an eyebrow
"some not alot you do know of Loghain right?" I said walking towards the bridge once more
"I heard of him, but never saw him in person or if I did; didn't think it was him" he replied sheepishly I laughed lightly about it
"Loghain a war hero that much is known" I said smiling we turned left heading to two tents that wasn't far from the area Duncan was standing at.
"yea I know that" he said chuckling I noticed a dwarf near where Duncan was at and raised a curious eyebrow
"Do you know the Dwarf over there?" I asked pointing her out
"She was here when I got here. Her name is Hara " Kelaos stated looking in that direction I looked at her and I noticed she had been through a hard ordeal like someone had betrayed her and I understood that.
"Maybe she'll talk to us in a little bit I would like to meet Loghain in person " I said and walked up to the guard in front of his tent. The guard wasn't going to let us speak to him, but I did alittle persuasion and got it into my favor. He went into the tent and a minute later Loghain walked out.
"What is it I do not exactly have time for social visits " he said his voice irritated
"Sorry Mi'lord I just want to meet the hero of River dane " I said bowing to him. Loghain saw only the top of my head and he knew immediately who it was.
"Ah young miss no need I remember you how is your family?" he asked
"They are fine gone to see the maker" I replied my face filled with hurt Kelaos looked towards me me family was dead and how was it that Loghain knew of her he sighed once more I would tell on my own time.
"That is not at all good my apologies " consoled Loghain with a sadden frown "but your brother is here scouting I do believe; hopefully King Cailan will think of a way out of this mess." he finished
"I'm sure your Majesty will" I said noting the heated of sarcasm in Loghain's voice
"If Cailan will have his way he'll spend his last moment fighting next to his dear beloved grey wardens" he retorted turning his back "but it was good to see you again young Cousland" he finished and walked back into his tent. Kelaos raised another eyebrow a Cousland had shown up not that long ago just yesterday or was it a couple days back he couldn't quite remember and he had never gotten the soldier's first name.
The two of us returned to our walked and Kelaos asked " So you're a Cousland?"
"ah yes, but it is just a name that is all" I answered putting a skip to my step like I was in some dance Kelaos raised a curious eyebrow not knowing that the very king that Loghain was talking about was watching me out of the tiny opening of his tent.
"Do you always walk like that?" Kelaos questioned with a light chuckle I stopped and turned to the mage with a light laugh of my own.
"sometimes" I replied hanging my head solemly "come on we must find the other recruits and this Sir Alistair" I finished and then continuing the walk Kelaos had to run alittle to catch up with me. We found a rogue named Daveth and the knight from redcliffle Sir Jory and they had went and headed back to Duncan all the while Daveth staring at my backside which I frowned upon. I found a few chests near by that Sir Jory was at stopped at one by a tent.
"Only rogues can open that I've tried to already" Kelaos said irritably staring at the locked chest I smiled evilly and bent down looking at the lock and locked picked it open.
"Like that?" I asked a smug look to my face
"yes..." he said showing his annoyance about it and crossing his arms I tossed him a couple of lyrium poltices and kept the health poultice to myself or for later his face lightened up when the lyrium poultices touched his hands and he stuck them into his bag immediately before anyone could take them from him.
"ok now in search of Sir Alistair" I said taking a skip into my step once more before we found we talked to the guard to gave to the deserter only for him to give us the key he stole which I immediately tossed to Kelaos and the mage grimaced touching, but placed it in his bag anyways very carefully. We went up an incline and went right and up another incline and saw the other grey warden talking to a mage. After the heated argument I walked up to him and saw his face and stared at him hard his face resembled Cailan's and alot of ways and that surprised me greatly.
"Oh good you're here!" he exclaimed happily and I smiled yep his goofy attire was just the same as Cailan's as well.
