Disclaimer: I don't own Jake Long. If I did it probably wouldn't be preferred for kids.
AN: This is the last of the beginning; then I'll be going back to the present. Also, Jake will be in this story. As with every other story I've written, he's an important part.
The Beginning of It All (Part III)
"Rosita, what are you talking about?" Angel asked in confusion.
Rose sighed, "The child you're looking for… do you have to kill it?" 'It might be our own… I'm almost sure it is.'
"Mi amor, yes it must die. I know how bad you must feel, it being a child, but it must be done."
Rose sat down, "I just don't get it. What if we just find the child and raise it for the good…"
"Because it will see what we do to its fellow abominations. Then it will trick us and kill us along with our niño. You can't change evil into good; even if it is at the beginning." Angel told her in a calm voice.
Rose was beginning to get angry. "How do you even know the baby's going to be evil? How are we supposed to know that we're even the good guys? Those magical creatures could be like humans, some good, some evil! How can we even know if all we do is push them around and kill them?"
Angel sighed, "Amor, are we going back to this? Your uncle, rest his soul, explained to you this already. That dragon tricked you. He never cared for you because he is-"
"I know why he did it, ok? This isn't about Jake! I know he was horrible, I know he used me, I know that he's evil! But this isn't about him! This is about that baby! And-and elves and leprechauns and unicorns! How are they evil?" She cried.
Angel sat down next to her and wrapped his arms around her, pulling her onto his lap. "We've been through this many times before. We are doing the right thing. Some creatures may seem harmless but they are all evil."
She sighed, "But sometimes… I feel like we're the wrong ones…"
"It's just your hormones, amor. The baby is playing with your emotions." He told her before going back to his study.
Rose shook her head, "The baby… right." It was the baby, but not in the way he thought. This wasn't the first time Rose felt like the villain and it wasn't the first time Angel spoke to her like she was a child who couldn't learn. In fact it was a job he took over when her uncle died.
She knew, no doubt in her mind, that Jake was evil and one day she would slay him for his trickery, she'd never forgive him for what he did to her. She would also slay his dragon master. She knew the Dark Dragon was evil too. Dragon's were evil, she knew and understood that much. She knew that much when her mother told her bed time stories about evil dragons terrorizing princesses and villagers. But did that necessarily make every magical creature evil...
Were they the good guys? Were what they were doing really the right thing?
Or was she just paranoid? Why was it so difficult to figure out? Rose spent her life listening to her uncle and then her husband. Did that make her wrong? Did it make them right?
There was always guilt when she'd inadvertently kill something or when she hurt a magical creature that seemed harmless to her. She never stopped though. She never quit. The Huntsclan was her family… it was her life… her destiny… but now…
Now she had a baby to worry about. She groaned. She needed to take a walk.
----
Selene almost screamed out in euphoria when she saw the woman walk out the door. It seemed that that night things were going to, finally, make themselves simple for her. After all that time... she deserved it.
Karma was finally smiling on her. She watched intently as the mother-to-be continued off into the night, unaware of the black cat with gleaming green eyes followed quietly after her.
She followed the blonde woman to one of the many beaches in Miami. Selene didn't know the name of it nor did she care. What she cared about was that the woman who carried the child she had long looked for had stopped. She sat upon the sand, took off her shoes and placed her feet in the shallow water.
Selene took in the scene. Unshed tears filled the young woman's eyes and the full moon shone brightly on the golden mop of hair atop her head; giving the pregnant female almost a celestial appearance.
She walked up to the depressed woman. Selene knew what was going on in her mind. She heard the majority of her conversation with the Huntsmaster... Angel was his name, ironic as it was. She knew she was confused, and rightly so.
Yes, the father was the evil the child would be born from. But the mother wasn't.This Rose, that was her name she remembered, justly named for what Selene saw was indeed a withering rose.
No. Selene could tell that Rose wasn't evil. She was confused, in a complex state of mind obviously, but not evil. She was simply a woman living the wrong life, a life given to her yet never truly wanted, as was so many cases in the present day.
She understood now what the scripture meant, the child being born from evil and not. Before she didn't understand why it wasn't evil and good. But now she did. The mother did evil things, but wasn't exactly evil. She did them for her family and, from what Selene gathered from the conversation, felt guilty about it all. She was told the magical creatures were the evil ones. And that's what made her the not.
Rose looked startled at Selene and then reached down to pet her. Selene decided this was the best time.
"My name is Selene; I've been looking for you, Rose." She spoke.
She watched as Rose's eyes widened with shock.
Sorry it took so long, blame exams. Thankfully they're over and I can go back to living. Hope you like and please review.
