Steve was the new night guard for the museum. Steve grew up an only child to an uptown family in New York. Steve was used to getting his way. He always got his way in the grand scheme of things. That was, until he had started working at the Museum of Natural History.
"And, this big fella, is Rexy"
Steve still found it hard to believe that they all came to life when the sun went down, but he was quickly warming up to it. Larry, his trainer/coworker, went on and on about some kid named Nicky. It was rather annoying really but Steve was no fool and knew better then to complain during your first week on the job. He had yet to meet this kid, but it was becoming rather apparent that they were real liked around the exhibits. Any mention of this name was met with fond smiles and a shake of the head.
Larry had finally introduced him to everyone in the museum, except for this Nicky character, and went on his round saying that it was a pretty easy job. It was a pretty easy job Steve was starting to learn for the exhibits took care of themselves. Steve found that he was able to mostly sit at the info desk surfing his news feed, on the exception of looking up every so often. A door opened and shut and sneakers could be heard running across the tile flooring.
Steve looked up to find a young boy flinnig his back pack and coat up on the counter.
"Sorry kid, Museums closed..How'd you get in? Doors are locked"
The kid stopped after realizing he was not alone.
"Oh hi! Your the new night guard! I'm Nicky by the way nice to meet you, I got a key to get in"
So this was the famed 'everyone's so fond of' Nicky.
A kid.
Great.
"Listen, kid, i don;t know who you think you are, but you can't just walk in here like that"
Nicky paused and frowned, something Steve saw causing him to smile slightly. This was gonna be too easy. Steve's next remark was cut off by a monstrous roar. Rexy came thundering around the corner, tail wagging like some puppy on steroids. Nicky giggled, completely forgetting about Steve, and ran in the same direction of the dino-fied pup. They both stopped when Nicks hand made contact with the T-Rex's nose.
" I missed you too Rex!"
Rexy yelped playfully at the boy and lowered himself closer to the ground, nick carefully climbed up onto his neck. Steve frowned as he started making his way closer to the kid, his pace picking up as the kid settled onto the dinosaurs neck. Who did this kid think he was? Steve was in charge here, not this kid.
"Listen you sack of bones! You put that kid down!"
Nicky let out a frightened yelp as he was suddenly lifted in the air faster then expected, Rex letting out a warning growl that caused Steve to stop in his tracks. The night guard in training had a feeling that if the dinosaur had eyes, he'd be sizing him up righting about now. Both boy and creature turned in the direction of the oppisite hall, racing down it until they were both out of sight.
There was a yell that sounded like jedakiah, Jed as he was called by his friends, and a giggle from Nicky.
Steve decided then and there, he hated that kid.
And that my friends is how Steve met Nicky.
