Chapter 3: Plans

"When did you get back?" asks Yugi staring straight ahead through the fence on the school roof.

"Just two days ago," said Ryou coming to stand next to Yugi. "You're lucky the school year has barely started or else you might have failed this year with all your absences."

"How do you know that?" asks Yugi turning his head to Ryou, eyes narrowing.

"Joey likes to talk," said Ryou shrugging.

"Of course," said Yugi dryly.

"So. . .how long have you remembered?" asks Ryou glancing sideways at Yugi.

"Remembered what?" asks Yugi as he turns his body to Ryou and crosses his arms over his chest.

"No need to deny it," said Ryou still staring straight ahead. "I saw you with her, walking down the street with that stroller. So tell me. . .are they hers. . .or yours?"

"What makes you think they're mine?" asks Yugi keeping his face carefully blank.

"They don't have a trace of her physically," said Ryou turning to Yugi and leaning against the gate.

"They are ours," said Yugi uncrossing his arms and relaxing his shoulders.

"Of course they are," said Ryou nodding, "and it will remain so."

Yugi nods, the quiet 'thank you' he cannot say out loud.

'I should have figured this would happen,' thought Yugi keeping a blank expression as his friends surround him after school.

"Yug', I though we were your friends why didn't you tell about her," said Joey looking like a kicked puppy.

Yugi refrains from rolling his eyes at the guilt trip they were trying to put on him.

"Look, I didn't find out till the day you caught us in the coffee shop," said Yugi shrugging as he looks at a spot over Joey's shoulder.

"What did she want?" asks Tristan eyes wide and skin pale. "Did she want money?"

"No," said Yugi biting his lip. "She just thought it was right that I got to know them."

"What are you going to tell Rebecca?" asks Tea crossing her arms with a smirk. "I can't imagine she would be happy that you cheated on her."

"Cheated?" asks Yugi eyes narrowing. "I was never with Rebecca. That was all in her head."

They all shifted, not meeting Yugi's eyes.

"You all thought I was dating Rebecca Hawkins," said Yugi glaring at them.

"She was very convincing," said Yami massaging his temples.

"So let me get this straight," said Yugi standing up straight, "instead of asking me for confirmation you take her word for it and just accept it as fact."

They all said nothing instead they hunch into themselves except for Tea who stares defiantly at Yugi.

"Wow. What nice friends you are," said Yugi looking away from them.

"Yug'," said Joey and Tristan reaching out to Yugi.

Yugi slaps their hands away and glares at them, his eyes seeming to glow.

"Right now I don't like you very much so get out of my face before I do something I regret," said Yugi walking away from them. "Oh, and another thing," he turns back to them, "if I want to fuck a girl, I will and if I happen to get said girl pregnant, I will deal with. I don't need any lectures," with that said he leaves them there wide-eyed and gaping.

Yugi starts chuckling as soon as he's out of sight.

'That was fun,' thought Yugi shaking his head. 'Now I know why people can be so mischievous.' The image of a blonde boy with blue eyes appears in his head before the image disappears.

"-perhaps I should give you the code," said Alex looking at him through the iron gate.

Yugi's head snaps up. 'I walked all the way to Alex's house,' thought Yugi looking behind him.

"I said if you're going to spend all your time here perhaps I should give you the code," said Alex tilting her head at him.

"Right, sorry. I was just deep in thought," said Yugi shaking his head and smiling at her. "The code."

Alex stares at him before glancing at the keypad. "11031894," she said as Yugi types it in.

"I should have known," said Yugi as the iron-gate clicks and starts to open. "Eighteen ninety-four, what a good year for us."

"And here I thought nineteen fifteen was a good year," said Alex stepping aside.

"Eighteen ninety-four was a good year for you. Don't think I don't remember the year he was born," said Yugi smirking as he passes Alex. "As for nineteen fifteen, it was a bit fun if not for all the dying."

"World War One, Gallipoli, Ypres, Loos, and the use of poison gas being used the first time," said Alex leading Yugi into the mansion.

"See all the dying," said Yugi laughing as they walk down the driveway.

"The good old days. Nothing but death and destruction," said Alex not noticing as the grass around her got greener and plants start to grow, but Yugi noticed.

"And you are still full of life," said Yugi as he nods over to the plants still growing. "I'm surprised you haven't given birth to new children yet."

"I'm only fifteen, Yugi. This body may not be pure, but the children I bear are all around us," said Alex spreading her arms out as more plants grew.

"After all this time no one has figured it out, huh," said Yugi as Alex continues to walk down the driveway.

"Why would it be anyone's first thought," said Alex shrugging as she opens her brown oak front door. "How was my little gift taken?"

Yugi rubs his cheek, "You could have held back a little," he says as they walk to the living room.

"You wanted the illusion of you screwing me. You can take a couple of slaps to complete the look," said Alex rolling her eyes.

Yugi frowns at her as she leaves the room.

Moments later she returns carrying the twins in her arms. She tries to give one to Yugi, but he shakes his head looking away from them.

"Eventually you are going to have to hold them," said Alex as she sits down across from Yugi, twins still in her arms. "You can't keep avoiding them forever."

"I just can't bear to look at them now," said Yugi looking out the window.

Alex blinks then sighs heavily. "A child should not be blamed for how they were conceived," she says placing one child on the couch next to her.

"You were always stronger than me. . .than us. It's what we admired and envied about you," said Yugi looking at his hands.

"It wasn't about being stronger," said Alex kneeling in front of Yugi holding his hands. "I had all of you and him to think about. I couldn't afford to dwell on the past when our survival was at stake."

"Can you dwell on it now?"

Alex stands and heads to the window, staring outside for a moment. "Now. . .it's been so long, I don't feel much of anything when I do think about it. On those days I feel numb," said Alex crossing her arms as she leans against the frame.

"We shouldn't have placed our problems on your shoulders. You were the youngest of us all it should have been us taking care of you not you taking care of us," said Yugi standing up.

"It doesn't matter now," said Alex turning to Yugi, uncrossing her arms.

"Of course it matters. If it matters to you then it matters," said Yugi placing a hand on Alex's shoulder.

"I handled it in my own way," said Alex walking away from the window.

"I don't think you have," said Yugi grabbing her arm.

"They are dead! The ones who hurt us are dead. Gone! There is no need to dig up those memories."

"And if he was reborn as well?" asks Yugi not letting Alex go despite her trying to get away from him.

"He was. I felt it years ago. My brother has been reborn," said Alex stopping her struggle.

"Should we be worried?" asks Yugi letting her go and frowning.

"No. I don't think he remembers everything and even if he does as long as we don't enter Tokyo we should be fine," said Alex shrugging.

"Tokyo? He's in Tokyo? "

"Yes."

"And if he remembers everything despite us avoiding him?"

"Well then, I guess. . .we have to be back into full power by then," said Alex turning to Yugi with a smirk.

"Better than before," said Yugi with his own smirk.
