Chapter 4: A Lion Knows No Boundaries

Bella found herself in a whirlwind of emotions that even Jasper couldn't distinguish. He let her be though as it was tough being around a life full of violence when once you were surrounded by tamed peace. She still slept in his room while he did his nightly rounds and worked late nights. He watched her every so often, watching her dream. He wished he could, because he knew they would be filled with his human. She wasn't disgusted by the violent display those few night ago, proud and worried. Something he didn't expect.

She was changing her tune and he liked it. Until her vampire returned. She still held a great disregard for the specimen but that was understandable and upon confiding in Jasper, she admitted it was really for Esme and Carlisle's sake, which Jasper understood but did not think highly of. She admitted she fell out of love a long time ago.

He was pleased but did not like that his little mate was unhappy. He wanted to do something special for her. He decided to have a picnic and made all her favorite foods and her favorite desert. Strawberry Shortcake.

He was waiting in the court yard which was well hidden when Peter brought Bella. He and Charlotte were the only two he trusted to escort her where needed without him. Her cheeks were rose colored and her hair hung in loose curls. Dark wash jeans and a dark orange colored shirt. She was so beautiful. "Isabella." He bowed to her lightly and she smiled. "Major." Bella curtsied and laughed softly. Sitting her down first, he sat across from her drinking in the scenery she provided. They talked and joked. It did wonders for Jasper. He never laughed until her. "I've been avoiding this question but I have to know..are we mates? I feel this connection with you. When you were fighting those nights ago, I wasn't scared of you, but I was scared for you. I seek you out every morning when I wake up. When you're not at your desk, I seek your presence. I look for you everywhere." She looked down shyly, but looked him in they eyes seconds later. "I love you, and I don't know if that is normal or a mate thing...but I have to be sure before I make a decision based on truth or lies."

If his heart was still beating, it sure would have stopped. She loved him. He could feel it. He never felt anything remotely close to that feeling and it made him smile. Taking her warm hand in his, he kissed her fingers. "Yes, I've known since you came to me with your family. I didn't want to scare you with that revelation for fear you wouldn't believe me, and I wasn't sure you were ready. When Josiah fought against me, I knew there wasn't a dammed thing I wouldn't do for you. My people suspect you mean more to me than just protection. I haven't mentioned it yet because it can cause turmoil and I wanted to be sure of your feelings. You have to understand that now I will do anything to protect you, I will kill for you, human or vampire and that extends to your vampire. I am a very territorial vampire darlin' and I don't like males close to what I consider mine." Bella never liked a claiming of ownership, but when Jasper verbalized his feelings, Bella saw something in him that she couldn't help but love. He embraced who and what he was and wasn't afraid to sugarcoat things with her.

"I've decided I want to be changed." She was met with silence and frowned. Jasper looked on just watching, but not saying anything. This was her mini battle. "Eeekk! I am so happy for you!" Alice was the first one to break the silence and engulfed Bella into a hug. Bella laughed. Surprisingly, Rosalie came forward and hugged Bella as well. "If it is what you want, then I support your decision. I wanted you to make this choice for you, not for others." Bella was suddenly swung in the air, but a warning growl had her put down on her feet in seconds. Jasper could feel the familial love rolling off of Emmett, but Bella was his. He'd get used to it, but their new relationship was so new. "Sorry man. But finally! You two though? Never would've seen it." HE shook his head and Jasper quirked a small smile. Emmett wasn't a bad guy and Jasper kind of liked him. Only one's left were Carlisle and Esme. Edward was no where to be found, and Jasper found that quite suspicious.

"Carlisle? Esme?" Jasper reached with his gift and their emotions held slight disappointment and sadness. "If you have nothing positive to say to my mate, then don't say a word at all." The two looked down. "I'm happy for you Bella, I truly am, but you have to understand that this will break Edward's heart. I know you, and that's the last thing you would want to do." Jasper had Carlisle against the wall in seconds snarling in his face. Everyone was tense, gauging the situation carefully. All except Bella and Alice. Alice warned Carlisle days before to watch his tongue, not giving anything away, and Carlisle didn't understand her warning until now. His wide golden eyes stared at Jasper fearfully. Bella watched on proud. Yes he was hurting her father figure in a sense but he was fulfilling his promise. "You will not guilt trip her. Your son's only game in this was to control her. He never loved her. You treated him like a child and let him have his candy and as soon as you tried taking it, he threw a fit. Don't looked so shocked. I know what you tried doing. Have you told your mate all you have done to keep Bella out of your hair?"

His eyes flitted to the window and that was all Jasper needed to confirm his suspicions. "Not her doctor. Him." Jasper pointed to the window where Edward was now currently standing looking shocked, disgusted and angry. "Tell your mate what a bad man you have been. So that he may fulfill that dark fantasy of yours. Think he'll bend you over and spank you now? Ask him. Esme's told me all about you." His golden eyes flickered to a shamed looking Esme. "You bitch!" He spat.
