Final Fantasy XII OC Story
Chapter 4
"Now, where were you the past 4 years?" Vayne looked intend on getting some answers out of me, to most of his questions, I didn't even have an answer. "I don't know that, I woke up at the Garamsythe waterway 9 days ago without any knowledge on how I got there, how many times must I say it." I answered him truthfully hoping he would let me go.
"I see. Well then, what do you know about this world?"
"There is this big war and Dalmasca, unfortunately, lies right in the middle of it." I rolled my eyes as I crossed my arm. Vayne seemed to be lost in thoughts for a while before speaking up again, not facing me as he did. "How much do you know of me?
Was this a joke? I sighed, I remembered Balthier's words about Vayne and smiled as I started answering. "Vayne Carudas Solidor, son of Emperor Gramis, brother to Larsa, Consul of Rabanastre, Leader of the Imperial army.." Vayne looked up to me, probably wondering when I got to the point. "..And murderer of his own two brothers."
Vayne sat down with a sad look on his face when I made this remark. I knew the person before me quite well, and quite frankly I thought he was a murderer. "I see.. So that is what you think of me. A murdered? You might not think of me that highly, but I would still like you to stay around a little longer. I have a lot to tell you about your past."
I quickly looked up to him surprised by his words, did I even want to know who I used to be? Ignorance can be a bliss at times. "Vayne, all I want to know is.." I sighed, this was harder than I thought it would be. "Was I.., Am I a good person?" That was all that really mattered to me in the end.
Vayne sighed and rubbed his temple's as he walked over and kneeled in front of me. He put a hand on my right knee and started speaking. "Listen, Stella, you were born within the Rozzarian Empire. As you know the Archadian Empire and the Rozzarian empire have been at war for generations, and there has only been made small progress in to ending it." I was very interested in his story, but I wondered where he got his information about me.
"Yours was a rare case to say the least. When you were at the age of 5 your parents were killed while passing through Landis, you were found unconscious on the battle site. They didn't have any knowledge of you at the time, but the soldiers that found you couldn't leave a child to die even if it was Rozzarian. So they brought you back to the Archadian palace where you lived for 10 years as you grew up with me and my brothers. That is until you disappeared 4 years ago."
I was shocked! Why didn't I know about this? What made me disappear for so long? I was so confused. Vayne stood up and started walking out of the room until I called out to him. "Vayne.." He turned to look back at me. "Why did you tell me all of this?"
"I thought you'd be happy to know about your past. You are a good person, you just don't remember it." I sighed. "What is to become of me now?" Vayne started walking over to me and placed a kiss on my forehead. "You are free to do as you please, you are no prisoner." I raised an eyebrow at that, if I wasn't a prisoner then why did he force me to come over here? He could've just asked. "Really? I can just leave? What of my friends?"
Vayne sighed and waved my question away before speaking to me once more. "I have arranged a room for you to rest in, you are free to go back into the city tomorrow morning if you still wish to. Follow me." I nodded and started following him, a good night's sleep would do me good after spending 3 days trying to escape out of a dungeon.
When we arrived in the sleeping quarters, he led me into a huge room with a bathroom attached to it, there were two large windows to the left of us and a huge bed in the middle of the room. Underneath the window was a desk with lots of books on it and on the right side of the room there was a huge closet with a large mirror next to it. This room looked fit for royalty, was this my room? "It's nothing like your old room back in Archadia, but its close enough." I sighed. Why was he being so nice to me? Balthier told me he was a cold hearted murderer that only cared about his money and power.
"If you need anything you can either ask the maid or send one of the guards outside to come and get me." I looked over to Vayne and nodded. Why was he staring at me like that? Was he.. smiling? I sighed again, I was going to give myself a headache if I kept this up. I smirked as I walked over towards Vayne. "I guess it'll have to do. By your leave Consul." Vayne smirked back at me before walking away. When I walked over to the bed I saw a pair of silk nightwear neatly folded on top of the bed. I started examaning the two pieces of clothing, they were black with long sleeves on both the shirt and the pants. I put them on and lay down underneath the covers thinking about what Vayne told me earlier. Was it really true? What reason would he have to lie to me? Then again, why would he tell me the truth? I didn't know what to make of it. I stared at the ceiling for a long time, before drifting off into a long night of sleep.
Yawn..
I stretched myself out as I woke up. I opened my eyes and scanned the room, I guess it wasn't all a dream. I turned my head and looked at the time, 6:43. I sighed and stood up as I walked over to the bathroom to refresh myself, once I was done changing I walked back into the room only to see the maid making the bed. "You don't have to do that, I can do it myself." The maid looked over to me, surprised by my offer before answering. "Oh no Madam, the Consul would be furious if I let that happen." I frowned as I walked up to her and started to help. "I bet he said nothing about me helping you." I winked ad her as she nodded slowly, allowing me to help.
Once we were done she moved on to the next room leaving me alone with my thoughts. If I left without telling Vayne he would surely come looking for me once more, I decided to tell him I was going leave the Palace as I left the bedroom. Once outside I asked a guard to escort me back to Vayne's office, he nodded and started walking. "Here we are Ma'm, the Consul's personal office." I thanked the guard and knocked on the door before walking in and closing the door behind me. I resisted the urge to smile as I saw Vayne asleep at his desk. I walked over next to him and brushed some of his hair out of his face. What was it about him that made him this way? Why was he being so nice to me? Once I started moving my hand towards his face, someone poked me on my shoulder. I turned around, startled, to see an young boy standing behind me. "I'm sorry, Stella, my brother fell asleep last night during his hard work. Is there anything I can do to help you?"
"I'm only here to tell Vayne that I'm leaving." Larsa looked disappointed, but smiled at me nonetheless. "I see. Are you in a rush to leave tough? I need your help with something important." He said as we were walking out of Vayne's office. "I don't know, last time I helped someone I ended up in prison." Larsa smiled at my joke before showing me a blue shard, it resembled the shard Vaan and I stole from the treasury earlier this week only a bit smaller. "This is manufacted Nethicite, unlike regular Nethicite this one absorbs magical energies, making it a very powerful substance. I want to know where the Empire obtains the Nethicite it takes to create this." Now this was interesting, the youngest son of the Emperor wants to examine where the Empire obtained they're resources. "Do you have any idea where they might be getting the Nethicite?"
"I suspect the Lhusu mines in the air city of Bhujerba." I nodded to Larsa. I was up for another adventure, and I supposed Vaan could wait for me another day or two. "All right, count me in!"
"Excellent! We must leave make our leave immediately though, there is an airship ready to fly over some of the Judges to Bhujerba as we speak. If we move quickly we might be able to sneak on board." I smirked as I started following Larsa out of the office, I liked this kid already.
Once we arrived at the airship we quickly snuck aboard just before the doors closed behind us, I guess there was no turning back now. I followed Larsa as he was looking for a place to hide, careful to avoid any Imperial contact. Once we reached the deck we decided to hide up there for the moment. "Larsa? Is it true what Vayne said. That I grew up with you and your brothers?" Larsa looked at me with a sad look in his eyes. He took hold of my left hand before answering. "Yes, That is true. You stayed with us until my older brothers died, the day after that you disappeared without trace. I remember being so sad about losing my best friend, until father told me it was time to grow up." I guessed Larsa wouldn't lie to me. Even though he was just a kid I could see he had had to endure a lot. I sighed and nodded to Larsa before looking off into the sky once more. This was going to be a long ride.
