After he left Max by himself Kaz went to his room. When it was apparent the heroes couldn't share the rooms Mr. Davenport rebuilt the floor to accommodate the five of them, plus two guest rooms, one of which was being re-built into Max's new room. He laid on his bed and sighed, today was a weird day. Kaz closed his eyes then fell into the land of nightmares...
Rodissious was sitting on his throne innsome cave. Mr. Terror stood next to him on his right, Roman and Riker to hus left. "Ah, Kaz, I'm so glad you vould join us." He tried to move, tried to run, but his feet were glued to the floor. He was trapped."What do you want?" Kaz asked the supervillains."You see, all your friends, even my son, think of you as a force of destruction." Kaz frowned as Mr. Terror continued. "Tell me Fire Boy," she sneered his name as if it was an insult. "How many other heroes have fire-themed superpowers? I know the Thundertwins have heat breath, but I'm talking full on fire powers, like yours." Kaz didn't say anything, which was the answer they were looking for."If you join us, you'll forever be powerful. You can control the city, control the gangs and the crime rates. All underneath your command, your friends would be unable to stop you!" Riker said, trying to convince Kaz to join the dark side. Kaz shook his head,"No." He began to feel hot, then realized his hair was starting to smoke. "I will never become one of you!" His body became encased in flames as he destroyed the villain's lair with gusto, leaving only ashes in his wake. When he turned around he saw not only was the base in ruins, but the whole city was on fire.He sat up with a yelp. "Kaz!" Kaz summoned a fire ball then threw it at the person. They ducked out of the way and let it hit the wall. Using ice powers they stopped it from burning the building to ashes. Ice. Oliver has ice powers.
"Oliver?" He asked, he could see the dark figure nod.
"It's me Kaz. What happened? I thought you had control over your powers?" Kaz shook ashes out of his hair then shrugged,
"bad dream." Oliver frowned,
"you've had nightmares before, what was so different about this one?" Kaz hesitated, then whispered,
"it felt real." Oliver sat next to him, cooling him down. "I was in Rodissiou's lair, Roman and Riker were there..." Kaz decided to leave out Mr. Terror, Oliver had enough to deal with. He didn't need to worry about his mom corrupting his best friend. "I couldn't move, something was keeping my feet where they were. The shapeshifters kept saying things... like how I'm the least valuable team member, and how all I do is destroy things." He muttered, snuggling closer into Oliver's chest. Oliver shook his head,
"it was just a bad dream Kaz. Just a bad dream." Kaz looked up at his brother, who then said, "we all get them." Now Kaz was curious, and wanted to ask Oliver what nightmares he has, but at the sight of his expression Kaz decided against it. The two ex-doctors fell asleep relying on each other as safety nets.
The morning came and Max didn't get any sleep. He kept getting ghost pains from his missing leg, and he was afraid that if he closed his eyes this was all a dream. The smell of pancakes and bacon greeted him as he entered the living space. Oliver was on the stove flipping the pancakes as the rest of his new family hung near the couch watching the morning news.
"Good morning Centium City! Today we've got a breaking story!" A picture of Max appeared, it was blurry so you couldn't make out his face, but all the same. "Let's see what the Elite Force feels about a new hero in their city. We all know how they feel about superheroes! Back to you Kelli." They cut back to the weather forecast and Bree muted the TV.
"That didn't take long." Oliver said walking over with what seemed to be a mountain of pancakes. "I figured it would've taken them at least a week to realize Max was here." Chase shrugged while he grabbed a stack of pancakes.
"It was bound to happen sooner or later." Bree's phone chimed, she checked the notification then chuckled.
"According to HKM you're now dubbed 'Cyborg X'." Kaz laughed,
"that's funny." Max frowned,
"actually, that's not a bad idea." Skylar choked on her pancakes.
"You're serious?" Max nodded then sat on the chair next to her,
"I was going to have to come up a name sooner or later. HKM has officially named the newest superhero in Centium City."
One Year Later...
While running partol Max stopped a fire from spreading throughout the city close to the Swellview border. Once the fire was put out he ventured as close to Swellview as he dared without getting detected by Captain Man's radars. Suddenly bright search lights shone in the night sky, illuminating his hiding place. Max swore than ducked for cover as people with flashlights, and what looked like guns, walked past. Crouched behind the roof-access door of the building he could somewhat overhear the conversation the group of people were having. "Fan out." One said, he seemed to be the leader of the group. "We need to find this 'Cyborg X' before he hurts someone." One of the guys in the group said,
"if I may sir." He nodded, giving her the go-ahead, "Cyborg X is in Centium City, I'm sure the he's already on the Elite Force's radar. If we tresspass into their city it would mean war." As he stepped into the light Max realized the man who spoke was Link, his twin's ex-boyfriend. "Perhaps it would be safer for us if we just let them deal with Cyborg X." The leader chuckled,
"always the diplomat Link, that's what I like about you. Unfortunately we can't let this new villain run with the shifters. We have to take him out with force."
There was a sudden gust of wind and someone placed their hand on his shoulder making him jump in surprise. "There you are!" Bree exclaimed, concern was written across her face. "We've been looking all over for you! You were supposed to be back at the tower - " Max cover her mouth with his hand to silence her before the group of people noticed they were there.
"shhh." He whispered. Max pointed to the group then gestured to his leg and the search lights. Bree's eyes widened once she realized what he meant.
"Hey!" She shouted, Max hid deeper in the shadows. "What are you doing so close to Centium?!" The group of five heroes jumped in surprise then turned around. The leader spoke,
"Cyborg X is our problem Speedy, let us deal eith him as we see fit." Bree crossed her arms then shook her head.
"I'm sorry, but if he's in Centium he's staying in Centium. You can shove it wherever you like, but it's the truth." Suddenly Chase was at her side holding his bionic bow staff, Kaz and Oliver flanked her other side. Skylar was the last to step out of the space portal, landing in the perfect superhero pose.
"I wouldn't have worded it exactly like my sister... but she's right. Anyone, hero and villains alike, who enter into Centium are under our protection." Chase said backing Bree up. The leader sighed, then arrogantly crossed his arms,
"If you joined the Hero Leauge like we offered we would have no difference in opinion." Kaz growled,
"Yeah right, we're not stupid enough to join the most corrupted organization on the planet." The girl with long brown hair stomped her foot, causing a small tremor to shake the building they were on. Link held out his hand, as if to warn her not to attack them. Max decided to come out of his hiding spot.
"Hold the phone everybody!" He exclaimed teasingly, "I'm not worth fighting over!" The superheroes, the Z-Force, Max realizes once he sees the logo on their chests, stared at him confusion.
"Cyborg X, you are aressted for breaking the Laws of Heroes on the grounds you murdered a civilian." Max froze, when he went on his first mission with the team he couldn't save one of the civilians. She was a nine year old girl named Abby. Kaz's hands lit on fire.
"Cyborg X is not a killer." Max stepped forwards,
"No, no, Rubber Band Boy here's right. I am a killer. Well, at least I was one before I became Cyborg X. I'm not going peacefully." The Z-Force leader guy nodded, then muttered something in his com unit.
"How did you know my superpowers?" Link asked Max, he was obviously stalling, but Max responded anyways.
"We've met before Link Evilman, it was years ago though." Link frowned, as if the memory was just out of reach. "I'll give you a hint." Max said, "you used to date my sister." Link chuckled,
"I've dated a lot of people's sister." Max's cheshire grin widened.
"I meant to say my twin sister. Then you broke her heart." The Elite Force tensed at just the mention of Phoebe's name, they knew how sensitive his past was. Link's eyes widened in realization. He turned to the Z-Force leader.
"I think we should leave." The leader stared at Link with disbelief written across his face. "Cyborg X is someone who we don't want to mess with. We definitely don't need a two front war going onnright now either. Besides, if he doesn't want to work with us the Elite Force will keep him in check." Chase nodded, realizing Link knew who Max really was.
"Yeah, we'll make sure he doesn't get into any trouble." Cyborg X frowned,
"what am I, five? I don't need a babysitter." Link smiled, then his expression went serious again.
"Cyborg X?" Max looked up at him, "for what it's worth... I'm sorry about what Super Persident Kickbutt did, it was uncalled for." Max nodded in response, then the Z-Force left the roof first.
Once everyone was back at the tower Max sighed as he sat on the couch nursing his metal leg. "You know," Chase said, "that was awesome." Everyone else agreed, Kaz muttered something that Max couldn't make out.
"Hey guys, can I talk to Kaz?" Chase, Bree, and Skylar left the room. Since the Mighty Med explosion Oliver hasn't let Kaz out of his sight, and vise versa. Kaz nodded to him,
"I'll be fine." Then Oliver left the room leaving only Kaz and Max in the living space. Kaz turned to Max, "what's up?" Max smirked,
"please Kaz, I'm not an idiot. I know you've been sidelining as something else this year." Kaz froze, he thought no one else knew about it. "I'm the only one who knows, at least I think so. You can't get in any deeper than you already are, take it from someone who actually used to be a villain. It's easy to become one, harder to stay in the game as one." Kaz sighed then sat next to Max on the couch,
"What am I supposed to do? I don't want Oliver to worry, but he's starting to suspect something's up." Max replied,
"just keep doing what you are. I'll help you any way I can, although I'm assuming I'm wanted person no. 1?" Kaz nodded. Max sighed as he stared at the black television screen.
Kaz was working for the Villain Leauge, no. He was working with them. there's a fine line he can't cross, otherwise the Elite Force will loose him for good. Max figured out after the first month of Kaz running errands for the villainous characters in Centium, he just hoped he was wrong... now? The war begins. For real this time. Nobody messes with his brother and gets away with it.
