Chapter 4
"Mum! I'm going to school!" Amy yelled as she walked down the stairs wearing a long sleeved black v-neck jacket with a white shirt underneath. On her legs, she wore dark blue skinny jeans. To finish off her outfit, she wore white trainers. She slung her black 'Just Do It' bag over her shoulder and made her way to the front door only to get stopped by her mother's voice.
"Amy! What about your breakfast?!" Grace Rose yelled from the kitchen, her head poking out of the door to look at her daughter.
"Not hungry," Amy replied, not waiting for her response as she walked out of the house, closing the door after her. Breathing in, she started her walk to the school, pursing her lips as she found herself thinking about her new friends and school...
"Hey, Amy! Didn't know you lived here!" A voice called out from behind, causing her to turn around and smile at the blue hedgehog walking up to her.
"Oh, um hi Sonic." The pink hedgehog greeted him, her eyes moving to the ebony male standing next to him.
"Me and Shadow are walking to school together, wanna join us?" Sonic asked her, getting a glare from Shadow. Amy frowned, wondering why he didn't like her. She hadn't done anything bad to him, so why was he acting like that towards her?
"Uh, sure." Amy replied, getting a nervous smile from Sonic and a small glare from the black and red hedgehog.
"Well, let's go then." Sonic started walking, and Amy walked beside him, not wanting Shadow to glare at her through the whole way. The walk was very awkward and none of them said anything. The blue hedgehog decided to break the uncomfortable silence. "So, Amy. How do you like the school so far?"
Amy flicked her eyes to see Shadow who was focusing on his feet, before smiling at Sonic. "Um, it's great." Sonic chuckled softly.
"Amy!" Someone exclaimed, and before Amy could see who it was, she felt arms grab her in a hug. "How are you doin' hun?" She recognised who it was immediately.
"Oh, hi Rouge." The pink female greeted, pulling away to see a smiling Rouge.
"Come on! The girls are waiting over there for us!" Rouge exclaimed, her eyes falling on Sonic and Shadow. "Oh, didn't see you guys there. Um, hello!"
"Uh, hey!" Sonic replied with a small smile while Shadow said nothing and crossed his arms across his chest. The blue hedgehog then turned to Amy. "So you're gonna walk with your friends, well I guess we'll see you later!" With a wink, he walked off, Shadow shooting the girls an annoyed look, before following him.
"Amy, can you explain to me why you are hanging out with them lately? I mean, yesterday I saw you and Sonic together. Today I saw you with him AND Shadow together. Who is next? Knuckles?" Rouge frowned at the last name, seeing Amy roll her eyes. Before she could say anything, Blaze and Cream walked up to them with smiles on their faces and gave her a hug each.
"What's up?" Blaze questioned.
"How's it going?" Cream added, both her and Blaze flicking their eyes between Amy and Rouge.
"Rouge, I'm not hanging out with them 'cause I like them or anything. Well, Sonic and Knuckles are very kind, but Shadow is a jerk!" Amy rolled her jade orbs again, getting their full attention. She told them about how she ran into the three the day before, and how Knuckles and Sonic were very nice, while Shadow was rude. She then told them that Sonic and her had the same classes, so that was why he was with her when Rouge saw them. "And then, today, I was walking to school when Sonic called out my name and asked me if I wanted to walk with them. I agreed, but the walk was very awkward. Sonic is actually a very sweet guy, and so is Knuckles..."
"Ok, ok. You spoke with Knuckles right?" Rouge asked.
"Mm-hmm." Amy nodded her head, raising an eyebrow.
"Can you please get him to like me!? Pleeeeeease?" The white bat clasped her hands together in front of her with puppy dog eyes.
"What?! Just because I spoke to him doesn't mean that I can speak to him again. The reason why he even spoke to me in the first place is because Sonic introduced us!" Amy shrugged her shoulders apologetically.
"Yeah! But they seem to like you! Please Amy!" Rouge almost begged, causing the rosy female to sigh.
"Alright, fine. I will try my hardest to make him like you ok?" Amy said, hearing Rouge squeal and soon she felt arms wrap around her in a tight hug.
"Thanks Amy!" She yelled happily, watching Amy smile in return. Blaze and Cream rolled their eyes.
"Guys, can we get going?" The rabbit asked, tapping her foot impatiently.
"Yeah... We've only got seven more minutes to make it to the school." Blaze stopped looking at her watch, causing their two friends to break from the hug.
"Yep, let's go!" Rouge grinned, linking her arms through Amy's and Blaze's arm, while Amy linked her other arm with Cream.
"Phew! Thank God I finally found the class!" Amy blew the bangs away from her eyes as she pushed the door, entering the Art class with a small shy smile. The teacher stopped talking and focused her attention on Amy, pushing her glasses to the bridge of her nose. She was a middle-aged red fox with aqua blue eyes.
"Why, hello. Are you the new student I've heard so much about?" She asked, getting a nod from Amy. "Well, I am Mrs Smart. Would you like to introduce yourself to the class?" Amy nodded again and stepped in front of the class nervously, her eyes fixed on her feet.
"Um, h-hello everyone. My n-name is A-Amy." Amy stuttered, mentally slapping herself on the forehead. She looked up from her bangs to see everyone smiling at her while saying, "Welcome to Emerald High Amy!" Or, "It's nice to meet you! We hope you enjoy it here!" Her wandering green eyes suddenly landed on a grumpy hedgehog who wasn't welcoming her. Shadow...
"Alright, now that you've introduced yourself, we will start our lesson. Take a seat next to Shadow, darling." Mrs Smart pointed to the ebony hedgehog causing Amy to freeze on the spot. Without saying anything, she walked over to the table he was sitting on and pulled out the chair to sit next to him.
"Um, hi." Amy gave him a small smile, getting a frown in return. Immediately, he moved his chair as far as it could go, causing her to frown. She sat down, biting her bottom lip. What was his problem? She looked at him from the corner of her eye to see his nose scrunched up and a glare on his face. 'Do I smell?' Amy couldn't help but think, finding his behavior very strange. She couldn't possibly smell, she had taken a shower this morning. Deciding to ignore him, she focused on the teacher.
"Alright, so I want all of you to sketch a picture of the person sitting next to you. The best one will win a prize!" Mrs Smart grinned, watching the students chatter excitedly. Amy felt a frown pull at her lips. 'You have got to be kidding me...!' "You can all start now. I have already put the needed equipment on your tables." She said, sitting down and taking out her phone to entertain herself.
Sighing, Amy turned to face Shadow who was staring at the A4 piece of paper in front of him. "Um, so... Should we start?" She questioned, his head turning to look at her for one second, before he turned it back, not saying anything. "Ok, uh... I guess we'll start then." She held back a frown, thinking to herself, 'Why isn't he talking to me? Does he really hate me that much? I haven't done anything though... Oh, right. I seem to have forgotten that it's always the hot guys who are jerks.' Amy blushed a light shade of red, admitting that Shadow was hot. She felt his stare, but as soon as she turned to look at him, he looked away. 'Oh God! Why does this have to be a double lesson?!'
Sighing once more, she took the pencil and bit her lip in concentration as she started sketching. Flicking her eyes to him, she took in his handsome face and blood red eyes... Falling into a small daydream, she let the pencil move on the paper as she sketched him without looking at the paper. He didn't even look at her again, which left her to wonder how he would draw her without looking at her first. Shrugging, she continued her sketch.
One and a half hour later...
"O-k! Your time is up! Drop your pencils and face this way!" The teacher stood up from her seat and stood in front of the class as she waited patiently for them to do as she said.
Amy dropped her pencil and smiled at her drawing. It was pretty good, only it didn't really look like Shadow. Sighing, she let her eyes trail around the paper with a small pout on her lips. 'It is hard to draw him sideways.' She thought, in an effort to make herself feel better.
"Right, now that I have your full attention, I will go around the class and pick out the best drawing." Mrs Smart smiled, beginning her walk around the class. Unfortunately, Shadow and Amy sat in the back, meaning they were going to be the last ones. Taking a peek at Shadow from the corner of her eye, she noticed him scribbling random stuff on another piece of paper. Having nothing else to do, she took out her phone to check for any messages.
Rouge - 2
Blaze - 1
Cream - 1
Silver -1
'Hold on a minute! How did Silver get my number?' Amy pursed her lips before she realized that he must have taken it from Blaze. Rolling her eyes, she opened them one by one.
Rouge - Hey gurl! How ya doin' with ur lessons?
Rouge - Y arnt u ansring?
Blaze - Hey Amy! Silver is being a pain in the ass! I hope you're having fun! :)
Blaze's message caused Amy to roll her eyes again and frown. 'Fun? As if!'
Cream - Hello Amy! The teacher isn't in class so I wanted to quickly message u for no reason at all! :P
Silver - Hello pinkie! I got ur number from Blaze btw. I am having a blast teasing her! Wish you were here too! ;)
Silver's message made her smile. She hadn't seen the silver hedgehog lately, which reminded her to meet him in lunch break. Sensing the teacher walking up to them, she quickly put the phone away.
"Mmm, very nice..." Mrs Smart leaned over her shoulder to look at her drawing.
"Thank you!" Amy smiled, feeling a pat on her shoulder.
"Well done Amy. Now, let's see how your partner did." She moved away from the pink hedgehog to look at Shadow's sketching. "Wow, Shadow it's gorgeous!" The teacher exclaimed, causing Amy to look over at his picture too. What she saw made her eyes nearly pop out. Shadow had drawn her so accurately that it looked like it was her instead of a picture. He had sketched her sideways too, and in the picture, she looked like she was concentrating. Her eyebrows were furrowed slightly, while a small frown rested on her lips. Her bangs fell over her eyes while her hair was in a ponytail.
"Thank you Mrs Smart." Shadow said in his smooth, deep voice that instantly made Amy's heart beat quicken.
"Alright everyone, we have the winner right over here! Give a round of applause for Shadow please, while I pass his sketch around!" The red fox smiled, passing on the picture as she walked over to her desk.
"Um, you're very good at drawing," Amy complimented him, watching his head turn around to face her as his red eyes locked on hers.
"Thank you." The ebony male spoke to her for the first time that day, surprising Amy. She looked down shyly and muttered a low, "You're welcome." After everyone had a look at the picture with envious glances and awed expressions at Shadow, they handed it back to the teacher.
"Here is your prize Shadow!" The teacher handed him his drawing with a box that contained a lot of equipment that had to do with Art. "I thought that it would be a good idea to give the winner this box of Art things."
"Thank you." Shadow said again, a small smile forming on his lips as he stuffed the things in his bag.
"You're welcome," Mrs Smart smiled back, and then walked off. Amy realized that she was staring at Shadow and immediately stopped, sighing happily when the bells rang, indicating that the lesson was over.
Grabbing her bag and standing up from her seat, she smiled at the black and red hedgehog warmly. "Goodbye!" She watched him turn around to look at her with slight annoyance in his crimson orbs, but he nodded his head, turning away after that. Frowning, Amy walked out of the class to meet her friends for lunch.
"Hey beautiful girls!" Silver greeted the four friends with a goofy smile on his face.
"Hey Silver," Amy smiled at him back.
"Hello weed-head!" Rouge smirked at him, seeing him return it.
"Hi Silver, so nice of you to join us." Cream murmured, her attention being on a certain yellow fox.
Silver pulled out a chair next to Blaze, nudging her with his elbow. She groaned and moved away from him, although her eyes sparkled at his touch.
"So, guys, what's up?" The silver hedgehog asked, reaching out and taking a piece of pizza from Cream's plate. She, of course, didn't notice. He stuffed it in his mouth and grinned.
"Silver, just where are your manners?" Blaze questioned back with her nose scrunched up. Silver chuckled and put an arm around her causing her cheeks to turn a light shade of red.
"Right here," he joked, squeezing her softly. "I mean, YOU are the person who taught me those stupid stuff called 'manners', as if I care about them." He shrugged, leaving her to roll her eyes. Rouge snickered while Amy giggled a little.
"Guys, I have this homework that I need to do with Tails, so if you'll all please excuse me." Cream got out of her seat, walking over to the golden coloured fox quickly.
"They so have a thing for each other." Silver commented, looking back at them as he chuckled. He turned back around and smiled at Amy. "You're a nice girl Amy. Blaze and Rouge should have been boys instead of girls." He joked, hearing both of them gasp. Amy held a hand over her mouth to stop her giggling.
"Why you!" Blaze scowled, pushing his hand away from her shoulder as she hit him on the head with her water bottle. "You should have been a girl!"
"Thank you Blaze, you answered for me." Rouge leaned back with a smirk on her lips, watching the lavender cat attack Silver who desperately tried to avoid being hit.
"Hey Amy! Would you like to sit with us today?" A familiar voice said, causing all of them to turn to the source of the sound. Sonic grinned as he walked up to their table, Shadow and Knuckles on either side of him. Shadow looked irritated, while Knuckles was expressionless. When Rouge saw the red echidna, she quickly sat up straighter and smoothed out her short skirt.
"Um..." Amy trailed off and looked at her friends to see what they thought she should do. Silver and Blaze only shrugged, while Rouge nodded her head vigorously. 'Oh yeah, she wants me to get Knuckles to like her. *Sigh*'
"Amy...?" Sonic asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Uh? Oh, right. Sure!" Amy got up and slung her bag over her shoulder, smiling at her friends before following Sonic, Knuckles and... Shadow. They arrived at an empty round table that had five chairs and was far away from the others.
"THIS is our table. No one else sits here." Sonic said, motioning for them to sit down as he did the same. Amy sat down with Sonic on one side of her and Shadow on the other side.
"Amy, how is the school treating you so far?" Knuckles asked, focusing his violet eyes on her.
"Um, ok I guess." The pink hedgehog shrugged, her eyes flicking to Shadow who was staring at the table.
"I'll go and get us something to eat." Sonic smiled as he stood up, nodding at them before leaving. Amy sighed, being left alone with two quiet people. Sonic was very confident and spoke most of the time and she found herself liking him as a friend immediately. It felt like hours later, but was actually four or five minutes, that Sonic finally arrived. He placed a tray of food in front of Amy and one in front of himself.
"Aren't you guys gonna eat?" Amy questioned, looking between Shadow and Knuckles. The echidna opened his mouth to speak, but Sonic beat him to it.
"They're not hungry. They eat when they go home." He shrugged, taking a bite off of a chilli dog. "Try the chilli dog Amy, it tastes great!"
"Um, ok." She took a bite and had to admit that it was good, but a bit too spicy for her liking. She took a look at her table of friends to see Rouge staring at her. "Alright, so um... Why don't you guys hang out with Rouge, Blaze and Silver? They are all very nice."
"Uh... We've never spoken to them before that's why. But we will speak with them soon if ya want. We consider you one of our friends now. So... Your friends are our friends." Sonic smiled at her, causing her to return it with a sweeter one. She heard a low growl and turned to see Shadow glaring at Sonic. 'Great! So he still hates me!' "Calm down Shadow buddy, you can speak to them too!" Sonic grinned nervously, confusion flashing across Shadow's face for one second before it turned to a scowl.
"Sonic, please keep your mouth shut." Knuckles spoke up, giving the azure male a warning look. Sonic sighed and nodded his head, ignoring Amy's confused and questioning gaze. 'What is up with these three?!' Sonic finished his chilli dogs and took his apple with a sharp knife. Amy didn't feel very hungry so she pushed her tray away from herself a little. She watched him slice the apple down the middle, only to cut his finger in the process.
"Shit!" He cursed, dropping the knife as he studied the cut. Amy gasped and moved to help him clean it when suddenly she remembered that Shadow was allergic to blood which still sounded stupid to her.
"Wait! Sonic, Shadow's allergic right?" Amy asked, the mentioned hedgehog facing her in confusion, before flicking them to Sonic while raising an eyebrow.
"Oh, uh..." Sonic scratched the back of his head with a nervous smile. "You're right. Shad is allergic to blood, I'll go and clean it in the toilets." He stood up, looked at Shadow for a few seconds, before dashing out of the cafeteria. Knuckles and Shadow watched after him in confusion, before their eyes widened slightly. Amy turned to look at them and saw Shadow's nose kind of scrunched up. 'Oh, so he really is allergic.' She thought.
"What happened?! Did you tell him about me?!" Rouge exclaimed impatiently as the four girls walked out of the school.
"Rouge, I couldn't just go up to him and say, 'Hey, Rouge wants you to like her so do as she says'. I did tell them about you guys though and asked them why they wouldn't talk with you lot and Sonic said that they will speak with you guys soon." Amy shrugged, hearing Rouge squeal and throw her arms around the pink hedgehog.
"Ooooh, thank you, thank you, thank you!" The excited bat laughed, not aware of Blaze and Cream rolling their eyes while Amy only smiled.
"You're welcome, Rouge." Amy pulled away to wrap her arms around herself. "Brrr, it's gotten cold hasn't it?" She asked, seeing them all nod their head in agreement.
"Mine and Cream's house is just down the street. We'll see you guys later!" Blaze and Cream linked arms and walked off.
"Well my dad is picking me up today, would you like to come with me?" Rouge questioned, turning to look at her.
"No thanks, I'll just walk." Amy shrugged, not wanting to be a bother.
"Are you sure? It looks like it's gonna start raining soon." Rouge clutched her coat tighter to herself, but saw Amy nod her head this time. "Alright then, I will see you tomorrow. Bye!"
"Goodbye Rouge!" Amy smiled as she watched her friend leave, her shoulders slumping once she realized that she was alone. "Oh well, better start walking now." She told herself, beginning the quite long walk to her house. She shivered and wrapped her arms around herself tighter, being stupid enough not to bring a coat along with her.
Sighing, she quickened her pace, feeling a tiny raindrop fall on her head. The pink hedgehog frowned and walked even faster. She heard the sound of shuffling feet, and any other person would have ignored it, only Amy was one curious hedgehog. Spinning on her heel, she saw a dark red hedgehog with piercing blue eyes walk up to her. She froze, her heart starting to beat faster. She didn't like the way he was looking at her...
"Well, well, well. What do we have here?" He smirked, his eyes fixed on her. Amy's eyes darted to both sides as she tried to find a way to escape. 'Shit! I'm trapped! What am I gonna do now?' She thought desperately, not aware of him moving closer to her. The touch of his hand on her shoulder caused her to jump and turn to face him with wide, frightened jade green eyes.
"W-what do y-you w-want?" She stuttered, watching him simply smirk again.
"You have a very strong smell. I would be able to smell it if I was on the other end of the world!" The mysterious hedgehog chuckled, noticing the confusion on her face. 'Do I really smell that bad?!' "As for what I want..." He trailed off, pushing the few strands of hair away from her neck as he inhaled deeply. Amy watched in confusion but felt her eyes close by themselves. 'Why do I have this feeling that I won't like what he's about to do? And I just know that he isn't like those bastards who pick on random people, he acts very weird.' "Hmm, so tempting..."
"Wh-what a-a-are y-you-" Amy was cut off when she felt him get pulled away from her. Her eyes snapped open, showing confusion before they widened. "Sh-Shadow?"
*Gasp* What's gonna happen next? Review to find out! :P

BTW: That whole 'smell' scene may sound similar to Twilight, but I liked it and had to add it in the story...
