Disclaimer: I wish I was able to see Liz Gillies' performance live, but it was impossible - just like the idea of owning Victorious.
My total bad. I forgot to mention that Jade's appearance is when she hasn't rebel against her parents yet, if you haven't guessed. Imagine her in the flashback in The Great Ping Pong Scam. Yup, that's her. So enjoy!
This chapter is dedicated to Blossamfall, for accurately spotting the line exchanged and the episode used! Great job! :D
DURING - GYM CLASS
Beck's.
I shouldn't have done that. I shouldn't have even talked to her. It's just that... oh, I don't know. That girl just sparked my curiosity for some reason. The way she isolate herself from others, looking completely uninterested and rude to practically everyone, including the coach - which is saying something. Either she thinks she's too cool for gym class, or she's trying to make some kind of statement about how she don't care what other people thinks of her.
Now, I'm stuck debating with myself whether or not to follow her down the bleachers and try to apologize, or I'm just going to say 'fuck it', and find some other girls who won't show me such attitude to talk to. I sighed, and was about to stand up to move towards her when I hear a voice coming from the left of me, "Hey!"
I turn to see a girl with wavy brown hair, wearing a light pink tee with a picture of a baby grizzly bear printed on the front, along with light blue ripped jeans and hot pink sneakers, advancing towards me. "Hey." I flash her a smile as she glaze at me from head to toes, "I haven't seen you around before..." she pause for a moment, before smiling brightly at me, "You're new, right?"
I took a brief look at the girl earlier, just to catch her glancing over at us with a disgusted look on her face, before proceeding to rebury her face in her hands. I turn back to face the girl speaking to me, "Yeah, I'm new." I offer her a hand to shake, "My name's Beck Oliver, and you are?"
She giggles as she sits down next to me, before taking my hand and shaking it, "I'm Meredith," she leans in towards me slightly and I get a whiff of her perfume, and damn, girl smells like freshly picked strawberries, "My daddy owns a cupcake shop." I made that exaggerated fake-surprise look, which I doubt she caught on, "Really? What's the name of it?"
"Frank's Cupcakes!" she exclaim, beaming at me with pride twinkling in her eyes, "Have you heard of it?" I nodded, as to say that I was taken aback was an understatement. I thought it was just an ordinary shop, but this girl's father is the guy who owns the shop that makes legit mouth-watering cupcakes!
Just as I was about to ask her more questions, her pearphone beeped. She promptly pull her phone out from her tote bag, read through the text briefly and grinned, before typing a response and hitting send. She dumps the phone back into her bag before looking back up at me with an apologetic look plastered on her pretty face, "Sorry 'bout that."
I shrug and offered her a smile as she continues on, "Me and my friends are going to the beach this weekend," she says, "It's sort of like a custom for us to hit the beach every last weekend of the month, except when the weather gets cold, of course," she giggles while rolling her eyes, "You should come!"
I glance out of the corner of my eyes to the girl, who is now looking over at the coach with a bored expression and pretending she's not listening to my conversation. Pfft, I can totally tell that she's listening. She's not that good of an actress. Well, if she wants a show, I'll give her a show.
"Yeah, sure. Thanks!" I flash her my most dashing smile, "I love surfing. Have you ever been surfboarding?" "No, but I've been dying to try it!" she perks up, but the smile was soon wiped off her face, "Well, that is, if someone was willing to teach me how..." she trails off, looking down at her sneakers. I took that as a cue to reach into her bag, where I can see the top of her blue pearphone peeking out, and pull it out.
Her eyes followed my every move, and it seems like she's about to ask me what I'm doing, but I cut her off before she was even able to voice her question as I type in my number, "I happen to know someone who can teach you how to surf." I hit save and hands her back the phone. She looks intrigued, "Who?"
I chuckle like it's the funniest thing I heard all day while shaking my head slightly, "Me, silly!" I say as I point at myself. That got her burst out laughing, "Oh!" she slaps my arm playfully as we laugh out loud. I stop when I heard a scoff coming from the mean girl - yes, that's what I'm going to name her. In my defence, she didn't tell me her name. What else am I suppose to call her? - sitting on couple rows in front of us.
Apparently, Meredith heard it too. Cause the next thing I know, she turns her gaze on her and gives her a friendly smile, "I'm sorry," she says, her tone kind of tight, "I don't recall giving you anything to scoff at. And, who are you anyway?"
"I'm Jade," the girl says as she turns to face us, "That's a nice name." I commented as I smile boyishly at her, but I still receive a glare from that enchanting blue-green eyes of hers in return. She redirects her attention back to Meredith and puts on a big smile on her face, "Sorry if I was eavesdropping. It's just that the joyous laughter coming from the both of you are reeeeally hard to ignore."
"Thanks," Meredith says, not picking up on the double-edged sarcasm. She pause to look at the straight haired brunette, "You're new too, right?" she asks, pointing at her. "Yeah," Jade says while shrugging nonchalantly, "It's my first day."
I frown, "Is it?" I ask, confusion evident in my tone. So she was telling the truth when she said she didn't know where Sikowitz's classroom was. She was looking at me with a sly smile on her face when Meredith spoke up, "You should totally come to the beach with us!"
Wait, is she for real? She must be crazy. Why would she invite Jade to the beach with us? The girl's obviously not the relaxing-at-the-beach type. Meredith dug around her bag for her pearphone once again, "What's your number?" I see the look of panic that flashes across Jade's face before she recompose herself.
It's obvious - she doesn't want to go to the beach. She also doesn't want to make friends with me nor Meredith. In fact, I'd quote her on the whole badassed "I'd really appreciate it if you just. Leave. Me. Alone." thing and assure you that she'd rather be left alone for the rest of the school year.
Jade was starting to shake her head, but that was before she catches my eyes. Jade narrow her eyes dangerously at me as I smirk at her, running a hand through my hair while mouthing 'good luck' - much to her annoyance. Unfortunately for her, Meredith didn't seem to catch on as she waves the phone in front of her face a few times.
In response, instead of making up an excuse like I thought she'd do, the brunette simply snatches the phone from Meredith and key in her contact before returning the phone with a strained smile, "Thanks for inviting me, it's really sweet of you. The beach sounds amazing."
"Meredith!" the coach yells, startling us, "Why are you still in your jeans? This is gym class, not a fashion show. Get changing!" Meredith merely put her hands up in mock surrender as she flash Coach Davis an apologetic smile. She turns to us, "I better get going... He gets pretty worked up when I still don't change. See you guys later!"
I waved her goodbye while Jade smiles sickishly sweet at her as she makes her way down the bleachers. I turn back to Jade, "The beach sounds amazing, huh?" I ask her, as she tried to feign indifference with a nonchalant shrug, "Yeah, I love the beach."
A smug smile formed on my face, "Really? That's cool, but you seem nervous when Meredith invited you..." she rolled her eyes before scoffing, "I was not nervous. Like I said, I love the beach." she said, with very strong emphasis on the word love. "Great. Guess I'll see you there this weekend, Jade." I put on a coy smile as I place equal emphasis on her name, making her sneer in annoyance.
"I bet you'd love to see me there, Beck." she says with an alluring voice before a devilish smile spread across her lips, with her fingers interlaced and stretched out on her lap - much like what an actual innocent school girl would do. Damn, everything she do is sexy... and she must know what she's saying with that soft, seductive tone. I can already imagine her clad in a bikini, with her natural pale skin contrasting with the two piece swimsuits, running across the sand towards me after playing with the water and getting herself wet-
My train of thought crashed to a halt when the coach cleared his throat, "Enough chattering. First off, I'm Coach Davis. I'm saying that because we have two new students joining us today," his voice was extremely loud, so much so that it sounded like he was talking through a megaphone, "And second of all, we are going to have a little friendly match within the class. Now, get off your lazy asses, and gather around!"
I look back over at Jade, who tried to surpass a groan but failed. As she stood up, I heard her mutter something along the lines of "Yeah, right. Friendly match, my ass." I snickered as I followed her down the bleachers to where Coach Davis is standing in the middle of the gym dividing the class up into two teams. This is going to be interesting.
Sooo, how's the story? I hope you enjoyed it! :) Jade really knows how to manipulate Beck's mind. And Meredith's characterization was really hard to come up with - seeing how she only appeared in one episode. :p
