Epilogue: The Near Future
-Nineteen Years Later, 2029, just at the end of the graduation ceremony-
Alex's POV
Honestly the time just flies by so quickly! I am sitting here with Bobby, Lacey and Junior about to go and congratulate the new NYPD cadet. Teagan graduated in the top three in the academics and training as well as leadership; we are all so proud of the accomplished young woman she has become.
Okay, maybe I should back up a bit and explain what had transpired.
A lot has taken place since Teagan's sixth birthday and the surprise proposal. I must say that proposal did catch me off guard; I had no idea it was coming.
Bobby and I planned an intimate wedding for close family and friends. I couldn't decide who to choose so I had Liz as matron of honor, my no wait our little girl, Teagan be honorary maid of honor and flower girl and Nathan as ring boy and honorary best man and Lewis as the best man; everything was perfect.
A year to the day after our wedding I gave birth to twins, a boy and a girl, Robert Jr. and Lacey Francesca Goren. Needless to say Teagan was so happy in becoming big sister and took her role and duty very seriously.
Shortly after Teagan's thirteenth birthday she asked about her biological parents. I knew this day was coming and so I went to the hospital where she was born, Mercy, and got some information on who her natural mother was. Bobby then jumped in, pulled some favors and asked a friend who happened to also be knowledgeable about everything Brazilian; the information we received back was saddening. As it turns out not, long after Teagan's biological father, Jaime (who was an immigrant from Taiwan to Brazil) decided to go back to Brazil shortly after dropping her off on my doorstep. Not long after, he died of natural causes due to a broken heart over the loss of Teagan's birth mother, Fernanda (who was a daughter of immigrants, also from Taiwan). We were so proud of Teagan when we told her what happened; she took the news very well and said, "At least now they are happy are together forever and watching over me from above."
Now, both Lacey and Robert Jr. are about to graduate from high school with valedictorian and salutatorian honors respectively and have chosen to follow their big sister and attend the Academy.
This brings me to another matter; right after the graduation ceremony at Fort Hamilton High School where Teagan graduated as valedictorian and after the congratulatory hugs she came up and made a life changing announcement
-May, 2022-
After receiving endless congratulatory hugs Teagan cleared her throat and everyone hushed rather quickly.
"Now, I am pretty sure how you guys would take this but after some consideration…"
She turned to me and said, "Mom I have decided that after I graduate from NYU and get my Masters I am planning on attending the Academy."
Needless to say that her announcements caused minor ripples amongst the non-civil servants. Me, however, I was almost reduced to a wreck; I was so proud of my baby girl. I immediately gave her a big hug even if it was a hug where she like Bobby would envelope me instead.
I know that she will do well especially with training (as she would excel in the learning) she has gotten to being 5'8" (I guess Jaime was at least six feet tall) and had excelled in both cross country and track.
I guess having her seeing me on the job and at the squad room has made a big impact on her. It was during her freshman year Fort Hamilton High School and I was promoted to being the Deputy Commissioner after being Captain of Major Case for six years (from 2012 following the retirement of Ross) and with the promises of both her Uncle Jimmy and Uncle Danny to recommend her.
I guess it also tipped the scale with having many Eames' who were in the family business and seeing her father as a consultant in the five New York City boroughs.
Opps here she comes time to go and show her how proud she has made the Goren and Eames family.
