Bella POV
"Are you still mad?" Alice asks for the tenth time today. "I really am sorry."
I can only stare at her. I would love to kill her and my father, Charlie, the Chief of Police, would definitely help dispose of the body. I know I can't stay mad at Alice. Shit happens when you're drunk, I'm living proof of that. "Buy me lunch and we're good." Food is the way to both my son's heart and mine.
In less than two seconds I feel Alice's arms around me, "Thank you, Bella. Anything you want on me." She kisses my cheek and rubs my belly. I guess I'm a dog now, whatever. I just laugh at Alice's childish behavior.
On cue, we hear my stomach growl. I can feel my cheeks redden and Alice laughs, "Let's go feed you and baby boy." I can only agree.
We agree on a café that makes the best broccoli and cheese soup in town. Lately, I've been craving anything with cheddar cheese; it melts right in my mouth. Delicious. "Do you think he's going to call you?" Alice asks while we walk.
I shrug, "I'm not sure and I honestly don't care. There's not much he can say."
I'll be 22 weeks next Friday; his call is a little too late. I'm almost sure the guys from last night will most likely say something to him about what happened but he doesn't have my number or at least doesn't remember it. I wonder if he even remembers our night and morning together. The more I think about it the more convinced I am that this is his normal behavior. Your typical college playboy.
I'm not sure where this new mentality came from but I'm embracing it and as of today I'm pretty much over the situation. I made my decision and he made his. I'm not going to keep waiting for someone that obviously wants nothing to do with a kid.
"I'm not sure how Jazz and him are related," Alice says with dreamy eyes. "Jazz is just so jazzzzz—ling."
"Whaaaat?" I giggle. "He seems pretty cool, just be careful." If he's related to E or Edward there's no telling. Edward had to be pretty damn dazzling himself for me to have slept with him. I'm not the most innocent person but I'm not easy either. I've only been with one guy before him. That's basically little to no experience. Who would have guessed my third time having sex would result in a pregnancy. The third time really is a charm. But then again alcohol does affect your judgment and decision-making.
I try to think back to that night but my memory is kind of hazy. After the third tequila shot and the slow grinding the only thing visible are his eyes. I remember feeling almost hypnotized by his green orbs. It was as if I was his without even knowing it, forever tied to him.
Anyways, I do recall waking up the next morning alone in his bed. I remember him walking out the bathroom with only a towel around his waist while I was naked under his silky sheets. The soreness between my legs was enough proof of the night we shared. And I definitely don't forget him asking if I needed him to call a cab. Asshole.
Getting out of my own head I realize Alice is no longer next to me, so I look back and see her a few feet away. "Umm … are you okay?" I basically had to shout. I guess I wasn't the only person lost in his or her own little world.
Alice runs the little distance, "I didn't even think about it. If you don't want me to see Jasper, I totally understand." I think about it, how their relationship could affect me but I'm not selfish. Anyone can see Alice really likes the guy and I won't be the one to dampen her happiness. Everyone deserves a chance at happiness.
"It's okay Ali. I think you should see him again." And I give Alice an honest smile. I'm no longer worried about E and he's obviously not worried about me.
Finally, they arrive and I can't wait to eat, the aroma smells awesome and I really was hungry, practically starving. Once we are seated in a booth in the back I take in the café, it has a lovely atmosphere, dimmed lights and slow jazz. I think they hold open mike her some nights but it's slow around this time, thank god.
"Afternoon ladies, can I start you with a drink?" the waiter, Mike according to his nametag, approaches.
"Can I have a water with lemon? Lots of lemons, actually can you just bring out a side of lemon? Please." I think the baby likes lemon too. I can feel them both watching me amusingly. Maybe I was a little too obnoxious but so what, my son wants lemon and lemons he gets. "What? I've been craving lemon."
"I see" Alice laughs, clearly amused. "I'll have a Sprite please."
Silence fills the table as Mike walks away. I notice Alice is fiercely tapping on her phone, either texting or playing candy crush. According to the smile planted on her face, I think it's the ladder. Unfortunately, my phone is dry as ever, which is nothing new. If only I had friends other than Alice and Rose. Hell, Renee and Charlie haven't even called this week.
My sigh catches the attention of Alice and she apologizes. "Sorry Bells. I was texting Jasper. But how did studying go last night." She puts her phone upside down on the table and makes conversation.
"Eh ... Honestly, I didn't get much done." Maybe I shouldn't have admitted my lonely night knowing it may lead to another can of worms opening.
"No?!" It is kind of unusual for me not to study. "You must have been tired, huh?"
"I guess. Something like that."
Tired sounds better than being depressed. I feel bad for hiding the truth but I honestly don't want to burden Alice with any more of my sorry lack of love story. I'm tired of people feeling sorry for me and I'm tired of feeling sorry for myself. I just want to be happy. This should be one of the happiest moments in my life and I just want to enjoy this blessing. I don't want negativity and stress to hurt the baby.
"Well ... umm … just to let you know Jasper hasn't mentioned anything about last night or E." Alice lets me know and I'm actually thankful for the information. It eases my nerves a little. "But he did invite us to the game next week and I know you're not up for partying but he said something about a small get together after if you want to come."
"What game?"
"Eh ... the football game?"
"You like football now?" I laugh because Alice is anti-sports anything. And I know she's uneducated about the game of football.
"Umm ... I like Jasper. And he happens to be on the football team, so I guess I do now."
"Wait ... Jasper is a football player here?" This sounds nothing like Alice.
"Yup, but he's the one Bella, so it doesn't even matter." I remain quiet and wait for Mike to bring our orders.
NEXT WEEK
Although this is the last game of the season, it's the first game I'm attending. Football is pretty big here being that it's a division one school, I just never had any interest in coming to the games. I'm just thankful the tickets are free to students.
I still can't believe I agreed to this. It's fucking cold out and I've been feeling nauseous all day.
I feel nervous for no reason, like anxious or something.
I'm sitting in between Alice and Rose. And apparently, Emmett is also on the team, go figure.
"I'm so glad you decided to come out tonight Bella," Rose says as she steals another one of my cheese fries.
"That's your last one," I warn. "Or you have to buy me another one."
"Yeah Rose, don't mess with the little man's cheese." Alice playfully chastised Rose.
"O. M. G. Bella! You didn't tell me it was boy!"
I've been so busy I don't think I told anyone, I think Alice was the only person to know. My bad.
"Sorry girl. But yes, it's a little guy in here."
"That's so cute!" They both agree, "Maybe the guys can teach him how to play ball when he's older," Rose suggested. I'm not sure how I feel about that and it's kind of surprising for them to talk about Jasper and Emmett long term. It's only been a week and both couples are practically planning forever. I guess when you know, you know.
However, being that Edward and Emmett are also brothers I'm not sure how this is going to play out. I guess only time can tell.
"Umm, maybe. Let's see their skills today." I say as the first quarter begins.
" And Cullen makes the first touchdown of the night," I hear the commentator announce as the crowd goes wild.
"Oh wow. Check your guy out," I say to Rose.
"Umm that's not my guy," she says and I'm confused because she said Emmett's last name was Cullen if I recall. And Jasper is Whitlock. But they also said Emmett's number was 26 and Jasper's was 18.
The guy who scored wore a jersey with the number 13.
His last name was Cullen.
Emmett's last name is Cullen.
"Rose, please tell me that's not Edward." I practically beg.
I hope you enjoyed reading this chapter just as much as I enjoyed writing it.
