October 2014: Lakewood Colorado:

John Doggett was taking a run with one of his good friends. After Walter Skinner had retired from the FBI he had moved to Colorado and now worked for the US Air Force as a Contractor in security. That was the official job title he held, but in reality he worked dark projects and enjoyed his work. He was married now to a woman who was twenty years his junior. That did not matter, they loved each other and he had adopted her daughter. Her husband had thought drugs were better than love or family and had overdosed and died. He had a promising life as a physicist and there that all away on drugs. They had adopted two other children and were a happy family.

It was interesting how Doggett's children looked like him as they too were adopted. It was a reason his first wife divorced him, he had not been able to have children after Luke and with his death she had left him. Interestingly enough she had sold the house after she converted to Catholicism and took vows. Jennifer not only had been supportive but had been very happy to adopt when she learned Doggett was sterile. Now they had three beautiful children and were a very happy family. The Skinners and Doggett's lived close by each other and were friends and got together regularly as their children were very nearly the same ages. Skinner was still a strong well built man but had grown a beard as many older men are want to do. It made him look younger even if it was more white than anything. Then again he was nearing sixty four years old.

"So anything interesting happening?" Skinner asked.

"No, just an Interpol case that will not leave me alone, brought some old friends." Doggett replied.

"Oh? They still here?" Skinner asked.

"They were." Doggett said, turning fast with his gun out pointed at the figure who had just walked onto the track, "you got ten seconds to explain why you are still alive!"

"I shot you! Why are you alive?" Skinner said his own gun out (in Colorado you are allowed to carry as a private citizen whenever you wish) "or are you one of them?"

"I come in peace, I do not mean any harm." Alex Krycek said hands up.

Like everyone he had changed over the years. He was just as well built as before and still clad in black, but his hair was long and tied back from his face and he had a goatee. He looked healthy enough and Doggett wondered what he was doing alive and here, now after so long. He had never liked the man but Skinner outright hated him, Alex Kryeck was a traitor and deserved to die for what he had done. He should have died he had been shot in the head!

"I came with a warning, Mulder is not to be trusted." Krycek said, "you could shoot me but it would not kill me."

"You are one of them!" Skinner said.

"I am something, but no longer your enemy." Krycek replied, "I am sorry for what I did to you, but there are things. I have done things, terrible things but I will do what I must to save the human race."

"Where does us staying away from Mulder come into that?" Doggett asked.

"You know his family, they are evil, the Mulders and Spenders, they came from Germany after the war. They were part of operation paper clip, the US government thought they could control them. They were wrong, name changes and such and here we are, yes I killed Mulder's father, but what you don't know is I killed his mother to."

"You son of a bitch!" Skinner snarled.

"You would not say that if you knew what she did to her own daughter. Samantha was never kidnapped, it was Tina who argued for her being removed from the home, when I learned that, I had to kill her." Krycek said.

"You are lying." Skinner said cocking the gun.

"No I don't think he is." Doggett said, "Alex Krycek, your family fought the red army, when that did not work they left and settled in America, when Leon Theremin was kidnapped your family went into hiding."

"The question is why would someone who came from a family of freedom fighters turn on that?" Krycek said, "I thought I had not when I joined the syndicate, I was wrong, and decided to line my pockets. That was wrong as well, I am a rat, a survivor but I have remembered my roots."

"Have you?" Skinner said.

"Ask yourself this, where was Mulder when the world should have ended nearly two years ago? Who is still helping that from happening?" Krycek said, "I am a shadow, I will be in touch."

"Listen you rat, I don't take orders from you!" Skinner said, "I shot you once, I can do it again."

"You could, but this time I am on your side." Krycek said, "don't trust Mulder!"

With that he was gone leaving two frustrated men behind him. They finished their run and headed back to their homes. Nether trusted Krycek, but his family was honorable and had saved countless lives before him. He just took lives and did not care who he hurt. How could they trust someone like that? Before they got to their respective homes Totowa stepped out of the shadows. Though shorter than them by six inches, he seemed very menacing in the light of the street light for a moment.

"Go slow." He said.

"What?" Doggett replied.

"This case is complicated, go slow, help when you can but no more. You can trust Krycek, he believes in what he says, Mulder is not a bad person despite his family, but go slow. Many lives depend on this."

"There could be more lives at stake." Doggett said, "I have to investigate."

"There are less lives at stake if you take it slow, do not contact the boy." Totowa said, "you will work through me for the time being."

"What are you not telling us?" Skinner asked, "what is going on?"

"In time, that I promise you, for now, do as I ask, please."

With that he was gone leaving two men frustrated and wondering just what was going on. They would not know that at that very moment a dark war was heating up again and that there very lives were in danger if they investigated deeper. They walked to their homes and their families. Doggett was going to take the advice, he had a feeling that was the best course of action for the time being. He had a family to take care of after all.

Yes Krycek is alive, but not fully human if you caught that. The war is brewing and we will see more of those who are in the thick of it later. I wanted the Mulder's and Spender's here shown as the main problem. What have they done that is so bad? Well that is telling isn't it?
