The summer seemed to finally set in the English capital and there was an heat wave coming soon being announced on all radios. Ava wore a white wrap dress as she stepped in the now familiar hallway of Grimmauld Place. Sirius had opened the door and was now standing leaned against the door frame, wearing a navy t-shirt and black trousers. They really hadn't spoken much since the first time she had arrived, there was something very intimidating about him that reminded of her all of those popular people at Hogwarts that had never given her a second glance.
"How was Harry?" He asked eagerly as soon as her feet passed the door step. It had been Ava's shift earlier that day to watch Harry.
Harry hadn't really done much, he either seemed to spend time taking walks around the neighbourhood or spent locked in his bedroom. He had lately taken to hide under the window in the flower beds in order to listen to the television, which broke Ava's heart a bit. She had starting despising the family he lived with. She overheard them several times shouting at him for no reason at all but to bully like watching the news but let own their son; a very large boy; whom seemed to be up to no good most of the time, she had seen him drinking heavily and smoke in the park and scare small children away with his friends.
Ava had really taken a liking to Harry, there was something very heart wrenching and familiar seeing him so alienated and lonely and she had to stop herself several times to not blow her cover.
"I don't think he's having the easiest time at his uncle and aunt, they don't seem like very nice people but…he is alive and healthy." She said. At first Sirius looked at her and seemed to drift of into thoughts at first.
"Yes, he's told me they aren't very nice. I know what that is like." said Sirius in a short breath. Ava gave him a quizzible look back.
"My family were obsessed with being pureblood, as you can tell from this house."
"You grew up here?" She asked surprised. Trying to imagine steps of children's shoes clanking on the wooden floor in this house just seemed very out of place.
"Yes, until I was 16 and ran away."
"Where did you go?"
"I went to live with Harry's dad, James family. Then I inherited money from an uncle and got my own flat"
"It must be really awful to be back here."
"Nearly beats Azkaban but it's about the only useful thing I could do for the Order" He said and Ava felt an urge to hug him or touch his shoulder but contained herself from doing so.
They followed the hallway to the kitchen where some other people from the Order was sitting.
After the meeting Remus and Molly were busy waving their wands stirring spoons around in the pots as the smell of mulled wine and onion filled the room. Ava got up and helped with chopping some of the vegetables. It didn't take long before footsteps could be heard running down the stairs and shortly thereafter the teens appeared in the room.
Crack
Suddenly Ava felt a body behind her pushing her away and she tripped on the side.
"I'm so sorry Ava. You okay?" said one of the twins ( she never had any idea how to separate them two). The other one had apparated two meters away. Before she had time to reply that she was fine Molly had turned towards them.
"WHAT HAVE I TOLD YOU ABOUT APPARATTING. YOU COULD HAVE KILLED HER" It didn't help how much Ava tried to weigh in that really, she was fine.
The rest of the Weasley's were sat down at the table as well as Kingsley, Tonks, Mundungus and the bushy haired girl called Hermione greeted Ava as she sat down next to them. Soon the food was on the table and everyone dug in. For most part Ava sat quiet and focused on eating, Hermione was talking to Ginny and on the other side of Ava was Mundungus who was speaking in a hushed tone with the twins. She didn't mind sitting quietly very much, and was going through tomorrow's schedule in her head when Hermione had started talking to her.
"Could you pass me some more of that stew please?"
"So, excited to start Hogwarts soon?' she asked as she passed the bowl with potatoes to Hermione, as that was the only thing she could come up with but swiftly regretted this when she give a stressed look back as though she was having an internal panic attack.
"Oh yes, but there is so much I yet need to go through before we go back. I'm only through reading half the coursework for next year and well with the O.W.L's this year I can't get behind" and with that for the next two hours Ava was giving Hermione tips and advice for her school year. She reminded Ava a lot about her self; Ava had been on top of the class as she had spent most woken free hours at Hogwarts studying. She didn't have any friends there so to dwell into her studies was the only way for her to keep occupied.
After a few more drinks, their conversation was erupted by Bill who had gotten a guitar in his hands and was playing a song from the Weird Sisters and most people had now gotten up from the table and started to dance.
Hermione had been taken away by one of the Weasleys siblings that Ava remembered to be Ron. Sirius and Tonks who were by far the most drunk were dancing together doing moves that you would only attempt after several shots of fire whisky. Mundungus wasn't far off, and was moving unsteady around the room with Molly looking at him occasionally with a stern look.
"Ava, would you like to go with me to get some more to drink" asked Remus and pointed her towards the kitchen. After a few meetings with the Order, she had become very found of him and it was often him she went to for a chat during their breaks. He had an easy going and calm nature to him and they had gotten along very well.
"Sure"
Ava leaned up against the kitchen bench as he started to pour the wine. It wasn't just the red wine that gave her a fuzzy feeling in her stomach as she looked around the room where everyone was dancing lively or laughing with each other.
"Are you all right?" he asked
"You know, I'm just really quite happy. It's nice, isn't? To be apart of something like this"
She could sense Remus smiling.
"It is. When the Order stopped last time well...I missed it a lot"
"What did you do after?" She asked. He told her he had been a Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher but that was only for one year"
He looked at her with a surprised face and took a sip from his drink.
"Oh, I thought someone had told you" and she shook her head confused.
"I'm a werewolf, so I just lived on a day to day basis taking every job I could get"
"That can't have be easy" was all she could get out. From how some people talked about werewolves at the Ministry it wasn't hard to imagine that it was very hard for them to get job but hearing Lupin's voice and seeing his shaggy robes she appreciated more just how difficult it must be for them.
He gave her a faint smile
"No"
Turns out, from "I'm a werewolf" it is a bit difficult to keep going with the conversation and they were both pretty relieved when Kingsley came up to them and the three of them stood chatting in the kitchen until midnight when the music started playing and Molly clapped her hands together and said "All right, bed time"
