Azriel Finds the One
Azriel POV
It has been over one hundred years since Feyre saves us all, but I still hid in the shadows.
I keep remembering those words someone once told me. "Nobody knows, nobody cares."
I know the rest of the Inner Circle cares, but sometimes that voice comes back to haunt me.
The voice of my brothers.
I spread my wings by the edge of Velaris and took a relaxing flight to the unknown island.
As I flew to it, I saw buildings everywhere. There were people in the streets, shopping and chatting.
Did anyone know about this wonderful place, or only me?
I landed in the street and quickly folded my wings. There were no shadows here. I could not hide.
I walked among the crowd. Soon I became tired of the noise and decided to take a walk in the nearby forest.
I kept walking and walking until I could not hear the quiet roar of the crowd back there.
I sat on a rock and let myself weep.

Unknown POV
I was strolling through the forest, an unknown pull leading me deeper and deeper. I was searching for berries, and none were around.
How do we make blueberry pie without blueberries?
That unknown pull led me to a hunched over male.
Not just any male though, an Illyrian male, like those in the stories.
This male was weeping on a rock. His wings were folded behind him tightly.
I saw his hands that he cried in. They were scarred beyond repair. Looking like they were-burnt.
I walked up to him. I'm surprised he didn't notice me.
I circled him so I was behind him and trailed a shaky finger down the beautiful membrane of his wing.
He shuddered and stopped crying.
"Who's there?" Called a shaky voice. It must've been him.
"Umm... hello Illyrian. My name is-Madison."
He turned around and looked at me. "Azriel. Did you know, our wings are very sensitive?"
I shook my head. I felt a strange connection to him. Like I wanted to talk for hours. "Why were you crying?"
He looked at me. "Do you ever feel like nobody wants you, like people hate you?"
I nodded. "My family hates me very much. They would do anything to get rid of me."
"That is why I was crying."
"Oh." I replied. I felt such sadness for this male. Just then, a throb appeared in my mind.
Right.
I didn't want to tell Azriel what I really went through at home, but I knew I needed to leave. And now.
"Nice to meet you. Are you coming back here tomorrow? I can meet you here!"
Azriel nodded. "I will be here."
Great! Now I really need to leave before my brothers find me here late with no berries. "I have to go."
He nodded and I sprinted to a nearby bush and yanked all the blueberries off it. Guess no dinner or breakfast for me tonight.
I waved to him as he spread his wings and took off in the sky.
Just need to get back to my house without them realizing how late I was.

Azriel POV
Wow. She was-beautiful. Amazing.
For once, I felt-happy.
I kept coming back, day after day. Every day she was in a rush and seemed to run a little slower.
We talked about everything. And nothing.
Once she mentioned her family but never went into detail. I didn't judge her.
One day, she was a little late. I didn't judge her, but she had a backpack strapped to her with what looked like to be her possessions.
"Azriel-can you take me with you?"
I was shocked when Madison spoke those words. "Take you home with me?"
She nodded eagerly. Then her eyes softened. "My parents kicked me out. They said I was useless and stayed in the forest way too long."
My eyes widened and I swept her into a bone-crushing hug. The only time I have ever let me touch her. I feel so at ease with her.
"Of course I will Madison."
I scooped her up and opened my wings wide. She traced one finger again down my right wing. I shuddered, pleasure racing through my body.
"Let's go home Madison." I whispered.
"Yes, let's."

Madison POV
I knew what that did to him. And I knew what he was to me. But Azriel obviously didn't realize.
So I came up with a plan to show him the magic that thrummed through my veins. As well as telling him.
As he flew me over the water, I decided now was a perfect time.
I leaned in to whisper in his ear. "Azriel, you're my mate."

Azriel POV
We were flying over the water. This was a wonderful day. I felt joyful with her. I loved her.
But before I could tell her, she told me something more shocking. So shocking I dropped her.
"Azriel, you're my mate."
You're my mate.
You're my mate.
My mate.
Her words echoed in my head as I let her go and stopped flying.
I let myself drop to the water.
Except, I didn't. I remained in the air. I looked around and saw Madison floating there.
"You're welcome."
She-she's making us float. I beat my wings up and scooped her up one more time.
I bent my head over to her. "I'm glad you're my mate. Because I love you."
Madison visibly beamed. I felt the mating bond snap into place between us.
"That's good, because I love you too."
By this time, we landed on Velaris's docks. But I couldn't tear my eyes away from hers.
I set her on her feet, but neither of us moved.
She moved first, but not to walk away. She leaned into me and put her soft lips on mine.
I know this one was not the best one I've written, and a bit short, but I love it.
I've always wanted Azriel to have a mate he loves before he knows their mates.
Anyways thanks for reading and please review! :D
