New Year's Eve
It was New Years Eve, and the whole gang had come together at the lodge where Troy and Gabriella had met all those years ago. Gabriella just thought that they were there to catch up and hang out like old times with their friends. Little did she know that Troy was proposing...tonight!
"Come on Gabi, let's go snowboarding."
"I'm coming Tay, you know I never pegged you as a snowboarder."
"I'm not, but I want to learn."
"Whatever. Tay are the others coming or is it just us."
"I think it is just us, Kels may be coming with us."
Turns out Kelsi did come and join them for snowboarding. They spent the entire afternoon out there. What Gabriella did not know was that Taylor and Kelsi were just buying time for the others to set up and keep her out of the lodge. By the time that Taylor received a text from Sharpay to come back it was already five in the afternoon.
"Come on Gabi, let's go back to the lodge and get ready for the party tonight."
"Ok."
When they arrived back at the lodge they went into Taylor and Chad's room to get ready. When they were done, they went down to the young adult lounge for the party. When they walked in they saw that the boys were sitting on some couches, they decided to join them. There were a couple of teens on the stage doing karaoke.
"Hey guys."
"Hey girls."
They talked and laughed just like old times. They weren't even paying attention to the people on stage behind them. All of a sudden Gabriella noticed that Troy was no longer sitting next to her, she looked around trying to find him. She eventually spotted him on stage with a mic in his hand. The DJ looked around then turned down the music so he would be heard.
"Alright ladies and gentlemen, I have picked this young man to sing up here. He told me the only way he would do it, is if his girlfriend came up and sang with him. So can you all help us get her up here? Her name is Gabriella by the way."
A spot light fell on Gabriella as she stared up at the stage, she barely recognizes Chad's voice as he yells out, "Gabriella!" and as other people start up with the chant as well. Finally she stood up to a bunch of cheers and walked up to the stage where the DJ handed her the mike and walked off.
As the music started Gabriella could not help but smile as she recognized the song as the one her and Troy sang all those years ago. As she sang with the boy, no man, that she loved she could not help but remember back, when the only thing she really worried about was whether the kids at her new school were going to like her or not.
As the song came to an end Gabriella turned around to give the mic back. When she turned around she did not expect to see Troy down on one knee holding an open ring box, with the most beautiful ring in it that she had ever seen.
"Brie, we met on this very stage five years ago on this very night. We just sang the very song we sang that night as well. We have been through meddling friends, college worry, and so much more. I knew from the moment that you started to sing 'Breaking Free' that I loved you, even if I didn't realize it at first. Anyway what I am trying to ask you is this. Will you make me the happiest man on earth? Will you marry me?"
"YES! Yes Troy I will marry you!"
He stood up, picked her up and spun her around while everyone clapped and cheered for the happy couple. When he put her back down on the ground he pulled the ring out of the box and placed it on her finger smiling as he did so.
"Oh Troy it is just beautiful."
"I took one look at it and knew it was for you."
The ring really was a beauty, it had a simple silver band and had a single 10 karat diamond on it, with little rubies surrounding the diamond.
"East High colors?"
"Yep that way you can't forget where you made a difference in a bunch of people's lives."
For the rest of the night Troy and Gabriella hung out with their friends and rang in the New Year as fiancées instead of boyfriend and girlfriend. Both could not help but think that this had been the absolute best New Years Eve they ever had.
