Chapter 4- Losing You

Hiroki walked up into the Mitsuhashi University and sighed. It would be another long day teaching students who are only have the time listening. He walked upstairs and into the room he and Miyagi shared as an office. He walked over to his desk and sat his bag on it, unrapping his scarf off of around his neck. He hung it on the coat rack along with his jacket.

Miayagi looked up from his laptop. His brows raised when he saw Hiroki, whoes brows were more furrowed than normal. He also looked like he lacked sleep. "Hiroki? Are you feeling well?" he asked, turning in his chair to face him. He put his cigarette out in the ashtray and stood. He placed a hand to Hiroki's forehead. "No fever.." he said, cotemplating the other possibilities.

Hiroki swatted his hand away. "I'm fine, just a little tired. I just finished moving." he said. He sat down in his chair and opened his laptop. "Did you get the notes for the meeting this afternoon?" he asked. "I made sure to send you a copy of the research."he said. He knew that Miyagi liked to pry to find out what was wrong. Then again, Miyagi also learned not to pry to much due to being slammed against the wall after the almost-kiss.

Miyagi slumped back into his chair. "I got them." he said. He then poked his forehead in between his brows. "Don't furrow your brows. You'll turn old before your time." he said. He turned back to his work. "Ahh~ Why do we even have to go to this meeting. It should be optional." he said. "I haven't even finished typing up my end of the research." he said.

Hiroki turned quickly. "What?! I have been telling you about it for weeks! If your part isn't finished, then how the hell is it supposed to work together with mine!?" he said frantically. He had worked so hard on this research, even neglected sleep and eating at some points. He stood and walked over to Miyagi. "What the hell were you doing all this time?" he asked.

Miyagi smirked and then laughed. "There is the usual barking Hiroki I know." he said. He turned and pulled up a few spreadsheets that were filled out on his laptop. "I finished it, don't worry." he said.

Hiroki's furrowed brow dipped deeper. "You...ass." he snapped and stomped back over to his desk. He grumbled and put in a last few touches to his assignments for class today. He glanced over at Miyagi who was humming and working on his computer. He relaxed a little. He was thankful..Miyagi seemed to make him forget a little bit more. This was good, he was able to focus.

He stood up a little bit later as it got closer to nine o'clock. "Well, class is starting soon. See you at the meeting." he mumbled and gathered his papers. He walked out the door and then headed for his classroom. When he walked in, the class stood and bowed. He sat his papers on his work bench and began writing the lesson plan out on the board.

"Alright, take your books out. Turn to page fifteen and let's continue from Friday." he said. He grimaced a bit. The weeked had gone by to fast. He couldn't complain though. Despite how he acted, he truely loved his job.

Nowaki had just gotten off the train. He didn't rush to much getting to the University. Afterall, he knew Hiroki would be teaching right now. His best bet was to wait until he got a break in between classes. He hoped that Hiroki would speak to him. He don't know what he would do if he refused. Beg perhaps?

He walked until he came up to the mall. He figured he could kill time in there for awhile. It would be four hours until Hiroki's class ended. This would give him some time to think through all of what he would like to say to him. He still was a bit sore that he had to apologize first. He shook his head. No, he was apologizing for something far worse than what Hiroki had done. His actions were inexcusable and so unlike him.

Nowaki walked up into the mall and grabbed a bite to eat. He was pretty hungry so he took the time to actually sit down and enjoy it for once. It was then that he decided to call Tsumori and let him know that he would be a little bit late getting in this evening. Who knows, if the apology went well, he may be returning home with Hiroki. He sighed, feeling sad about everything. Damn...he made such a bad decision.

He read a magazine as he ate his fries. He had dialed Tsumori's number and waited for him to answer. When he got the answering machine, he left a message saying he'd be back a bit late. He then hung up and stood. He tossed his empty fry bag and burger wrapper away. He sat the magazine back on the shelf and then went to walk around.

He stopped by a supply store and looked around. He spotted this wooden pen with a gold trim on it. It had an engraving of a vine on it. He smiled slightly. Hiroki would like this. He liked things that he could use at work. He decided to buy it. He got a nice box for it and had a bow placed on it. He hoped that Hiroki would accept it.

After a few hours of mingling around the mall, he managed to buy a book that he knew Hiroki wanted, the pen, and a nice book mark. He figured it was now time to head over to the University. He put all of the items in his bag and walked down the street, his nerves leaving him with each step. He really hoped that Hiroki would talk to him.

Hiroki sat his textbook down on the bench. "Remember to turn in your assignments when you leave the room. Class dissmissed." he said. He sighed and took off his glasses, putting them in his pocket. He watched as the students filed out of the room, dropping their assignments off as they left. He glared at a few who left without turning anything in.

"Why bother coming to class if you aren't going to do any of the work?" he mumbled under his breath, to tired and frustrated to say anything to them. After the last person left, he gathered what he did have and erased the board. He put the papers in his bag and walked out the door, heading back to his office.

The halls were full of young adults, talking about class, some talking about which vacation spot to hit for the holiday. He felt his heart twinge. He hated hearing about the upcoming holiday. He did his best to tune it. Despite his efforts to completely mute his surroundings, he heard a familiar voice call his name. It made his heart hurt. He turned wide-eyed and looked up at the tall dark-haired male in front of him. He froze...words left his thoughts. "N..Nowaki?" he finally breathed out.

Nowaki looked down at Hiroki. He tried not to move to fast so the man wouldn't run away like the last time he had to come here. "Hey...I know this may not be a good ti-" he began, but before he could finish Hiroki had turned and started walking away. Dammit, this is what he had feared. Hiroki wasn't going to talk to him that easily.

Hiroki forced himself to make his usual angry face, but in reality it was only to stop the tears from falling. God, he felt so unmanly in front of Nowaki. Why did this man still have this effect on him. He couldn't stand how he could easily show his weak side to Nowaki. He swallowed hard. "It is a bad time, I am extremely busy. Please leave. Do not come to my work again." he said.

Nowaki felt the sting of the words, but kept persisting. Once again he was briskly following Hiroki down the hall. He had hoped he would never have to relive that moment. "Please, just hear me out. About the other nigh-" he began but was cut off again.

"Stop! I don't want to hear it! Leave!" Hiroki pleaded in anger, trying not to make a scene. "You aren't a student here, you have no right being here." he snapped. He made it to the office and opened the door. He realized that Nowaki was going to try and follow him in. He stopped him by pressing a book agains't Nowaki's chest, making sure not to make any direct contact. He'd lose it if he did.

"Do not make me call campus security.." Hiroki said, his eyes narrowed into slits. Was the walls closing in? He sure felt it hard to breath right now. "Go away...Do not come here again...Kusama Nowaki." he said.

Nowaki's eyes widened. Hiroki was serious, he could see it. There was now way he was going to get through to this man today. He sighed and his eyes fell in sadness. "At least take these." he said. He reached into his bag and pulled out the gifts he had bought. "I know it's early...but Merry Christmas." he said.

Hiroki bit his lip, taking the items quickly and shutting the door loudly behind him. He gripped the items tight to his chest. "Damn him..." he whispered, sliding down to his bottom on the floor. He allowed himself to cry. It was perfect timing, seeing as Miyagi was not in the room right now. He wiped his eyes and stood up after crying for a bit.

This sucked, this was the worst. He blew his nose on a tissue and then gathered his things for the meeting. He looked into a mirror in the corner of the room to make sure his eyes weren't puffy and red. Good, they were alright. He grabbed his laptop and left the room, glad that Nowaki had left already, but also sad. He walked down the hall, dodging the students who were goofing off.

When he made it to the meeting room, Miyagi was already there talking with some of the other professors. He picked a seat close to Miyagi since they shared the same research. They sort of calaborated together to make one big research. It wasn't against the rules so why not? He opened up his laptop and pulled up his powerpoint.

Miyagi came and put a hand on Hiroki's head. "We volunteer to go first. We did a collaborated piece this time around." he said. "With the permission of the dean of course."he added. "Ready, Hiroki?" he asked.

Hiroki mumbled under his breath at being forcefully nominated to go first. He stood up and followed Miyagi up to the front of the room. He hooked his laptop up to the projector and the lights went off. "We did our research on the Adult level Language statistics." he began.

Nowaki walked down the street, feeling really bummed out. He didn't know how to approach Hiroki. Hiroki practically told him never to appear in front of him again. He couldn't give up though. He would have to meet him outside of Hiroki's work. It was then he decided to wait around in the area to catch Hiroki when he left work. He didn't know when that may be, so he stayed close. He kept a close view of the main entrance.

He sighed and sat down on a bench. He opened his phone and looked through his mobil spreadsheet of patients to make sure nobody made a emergency appointment. When he saw that there were no appointments, he felt relieved. He did love his job, no doubt, but he also really wanted to pursue Hiroki until he talked to him fully.

He then surfed the web as he waited. He tried looking up advice in situations like these. He found a few suggestions that he guessed Hiroki may like, but they were embarassing and desperate. He decided against them and then turned off his phone and just watched as people walked by. He glanced at his watch, wondering what was taking him so long.

An hour later the meeting had finally came to an end. Hiroki sighed, that seemed like a long session. He gathered his notes and his laptop and headed back to the office to grab his jacket and scarf. He remembered that Tatsuya was supposed to pick him up to go to dinner tonight. That brightened him up a bit. He put on his coat and scarf and headed downstairs.

When he got outside, he saw Tatsuya waiting out front in his car. He was driving himself today. He walked over to him. "Hey, sorry. Did you wait long?" he asked. He looked at Tatsuya who was smiling.

"Not at all, just arrived actually." he said. He was wearing casual clothes for once. A pair of jeans and a grey shirt. It did have a vest over it, but it wasn't to formal. "Are you hungry now? I have a nice reservation for us." he said.

Hiroki nodded. "I am actually." he said, placing a hand on his stomach. He looked up at Tatsuya. He gave him a slight smile. "Thank you for tonight." he said. He took his bag off and then opened the car door and got in.

Tatsuya smiled after Hiroki got in. "No...thank you." he whispered under his breath. He got in the driver's side and buckled up. He then drove off.

Nowaki stared wide eyed in shock. He couldn't even gather his thoughts. He had just seen Hiroki get into the car of an attractive man's. He even saw the slight smile that Hiroki gave to him and heard the way he spoke to him. What was going on? Hiroki wasn't seeing someone else was he? Where are they going? Who is that guy?

Nowaki quickly gathered his bags and headed down town. He heard them say reservation. He knew that there were only a few places around this part that require a reservation. He needed to get to the bottom of this. This strong feeling that he is losing Hiroki is scaring him. As he felt the feeling get stronger, he moved faster until eventually he was in a light running state. His bag hit against his back as he ran.

He wouldn't let it end this way, he couldn't. He still loved Hiroki, more than anything. He can't possibly be seeing someone else. This situation felt more real than the last one. He felt as if he could truly lose Hiroki this time. His heart sank at the thought. His lungs burned as he panted through the cold air. He wouldn't let it happen, he couldn't!
