"Harry we are here?"
Haley turns around so that she is facing the back seat. Harry is looking out the window of the car and didn't notice she said anything. Eyes full of sadness, even though she has seen that look on his face it hurts to know such a young boy knows that kind of pain.
"Harry?" She calls again but he still doesn't respond so she reaches over to touch his knee.
Finally he meets her gaze, and watches her carefully.
"I have to bring something to my boss. You can stay in here or you can come in too." She says carefully.
Haley notices the panic that suddenly crosses the small boy's face. Of course he doesn't want to be left alone, a big part of his life was most likely spent alone.
"Come on let's go in."

It was a normal day for the Cullen's, they were all currently comfortable in the family room. Carlisle was sitting reading a medicine journal that he has already memorized. Esme was sitting next to her husband watching her 'children'. Edward and Emmett were playing Call of Duty. Rosalie was somewhere doing here own thing. And Jasper and Alice were talking quietly to themselves.
Carlisle had just gotten off the phone a little while ago. The new nurse, Haley, had accidently brought home some files and he needed to look over those files so he didn't have to call her tomorrow on her day off to ask for them. He already knew everything that was in them but he still needed them for appearance purposes.
Haley's car pulled in a few minutes later, all of them took notice without showing any signs that they did. They were all listening for signs that this visitor was dangerous, but when nothing seemed suspicious that went back to what they were doing.
"I thought this new nurse lived alone." Edward says.
As a precaution they checked Haley's background to see if there any cause for concern from this new person. Nothing came up as suspicious other than the fact that she was nothing from England to the United States and wanted to live in Forks. Other than that she lived a normal life, she lived a simple childhood followed by what Emmett referred to as a boring teenaged years since she never got into trouble with the law or did anything remotely 'fun' and from there she went to medical school and became a nurse.
But the part that was confusing Edward was nowhere, in all the information they got, indicated that she had a child but there was one in that car. He hears the panicked thoughts of a young boy and he is immediately to his feet and at the window.
No please don't, I will be good I promise. I promise. I am quiet, see not a sound. Please don't hurt me.
"Edward, what's wrong?" Esme asks
"She has a kid with her, and he's panicking."
The whole family turns to Edward, and Rosalie came down as soon as Edward mentioned the child.
"What do you hear?" Rosalie said
"He was pleading in his head begging saying he was going to be good, not to be hurt." Edward replies
"I am going to kill that woman. How could she hurt a child? He probably didn't even do an-"
"Rosalie that's enough, I don't know why he is panicking but I don't think Haley did anything to him, she does seem like the type who would. And I don't know much about Harry but Haley is coming from the airport where she just picked him up. She recently adopted him and he was all she talked about to her co-workers she seemed very excited about having him come live with her finally."
"She still could've done something." Rosalie said.
"I agree with Carlisle, she seems worried about him and doesn't know what to do." Edward said
Rosalie doesn't say anything else instead she sits down and waits to see this woman herself and see for herself if she should trust her to take care of any child. She couldn't trust what Edward or Carlisle say, she can make her own decisions without them.
Edward watch as a woman got out of her car and went around to the back and opened the door so a young boy could get out too. He watches as she reaches for the boy but stops when he flinches. She doesn't try again instead she says something and they walk to the door, Harry walking a few steps behind.

Something in the air changes as soon as Esme answers the door, a sweet scent fills the air and surrounds him. It is intoxicating and Jasper's head becomes unfocused for a few seconds. What kind of being could smell so perfect, so addicting? He looks around at his family but the scent doesn't seem to be affecting them the way it was him.
Then he felt something else, fear. It must be coming from the boy Edward was talking about. What could cause a boy to be afraid of nothing? No one was doing anything to him to cause his fear, but it was so strong that Jasper couldn't ignore it. He sends waves of calmness over the boy trying to get his emotions to settle down.
"I'm so sorry Doctor, I don't know what I was thinking." Jasper looks up to see that the nurse had entered to room and was apologizing to Carlisle.
The scent grew stronger when she entered the room, could it be coming from her. No her scent smells different, nowhere near as amazing as the first scent. He takes a closer look and notices a young boy peeking out from behind her. Harry, he assumes, is small and thin and looks to be about six years old. And his hair is dark brown almost black and looks like it has never seen a brush. But his eyes capture Jasper's almost immediately, they are a brilliant green and the vampire can't find the strength to look away.
Him, the scent is going from him, but why? He hears someone clear their throat, it was Edward. Jasper meets Edward's gaze and sees something there, he knows something, something about why Harry smells so good. Edward nods, and Jasper raises his eyebrow in question. But Edward just shakes his head and turns back to their guests. Jasper does the same and this time he tries to listen to what everyone is saying but he sees Harry watching him so looks back at the boy and smiles. He feels something other than fear come from the boy but it is gone before he can identify it.
"Thank you for bringing these, I know it was a lot to ask since Harry only just arrived today." Carlisle said
"It's alright, but Harry must be getting tired. Right Harry?" Haley replies
Harry only looks at her when she says his name, he gives no response. Jasper feels a sudden wave of sadness come from Haley when Harry doesn't answer her but she still smiles sympathetically at him as if he had answered her. And as Carlisle watches his two visitors Jasper can feel his curiosity growing. Jasper can feel his own doing the same but for different reasons.
"Then you two better get home so Harry can see his new room." Said Carlisle
"Yeah we better get going."
I resist the sudden urge to tell them they can't leave yet. I don't even know where it came from or why I want them to stay the longer they are here the less control I have and the more tempting the scent of their blood will be. Jasper has to blink in surprise when he notices that their blood wasn't tempting him. Haley's blood smelled a little tempting but it is out powered by Harry's scent which wasn't tempting him at all.
They leave and Jasper doesn't take notice because he is too shocked over what he had just discovered.
"He's finally here." Alice says as soon as their guests leave. Her excitement overrides the confusion that Jasper is feeling and he smiles slightly even though he doesn't know why.
Everyone turns to Alice and all of them are wondering the same thing. What has she been keeping from everyone?
"Alice? What do you mean?" Carlisle asks
"Well, for about a year now I have been having these visions," Alice ignores the glares Rosalie is sending her. "About this boy, Harry, and finally now he is here so all of those visions can come true. I know I should have told you guys but I wanted him to be a surprise. Jasper, I'm sure you noticed that you noticed Harry's scent is." She paused to think. "intoxicating."
"What do you know?" Jasper said
"I know that he will fit perfectly into our family and we will love him like he is our little brother, well except for you and Rosalie."
"Alice…." Jasper was starting to lose his patience.
"Jasper, Harry is your mate. That is why he smells so good to you and why his blood isn't tempting you."
"That isn't possible he is just a little kid. He can't be my mate." Jasper can't believe what she just said, Harry can't be his mate he was just a little kid. A kid who looks like he has been hurt, he could so easily hurt Harry too. He is human, he has blood even if it didn't tempt him before it will eventually. Like he said Harry was a kid he will fall and have accidents he will bleed, what will stop him then? What will stop him from killing that precious little boy?
"See there's this weird thing human children do it is called grow up. He won't be a kid forever, one day you will wake up and he will be a strong young man. I know this because I saw it, I saw that you were happy and laughing and so was Harry. And now that I have seen him now, I can see that he needs you Jasper."
His mate can't be human, he just can't be. It didn't matter to Jasper that his mate was male, he knew that he probably always preferred males, females just never did anything for him. Alice and him had tried to be a couple but nothing really happened. So Alice moved on to Edward and something just clicked with those two and they have been mates since.
"Jasper, are you willing to try?" Edward asks
How can any of them think I would? They know what I can do and how little control I have and yet they still want me to try. To try what? To try to kill him? Jasper doesn't even try to listen to any of their pleas instead he walks out of the room. He pauses at the door but he doesn't turn toward his family.
"I just can't."
