"You're married?" screeched Alice momentarily forgetting about her headache.
"I don't know. I'm wearing a wedding ring though. How can I be wearing a wedding ring? How can I be married? " Bella walked to the kitchenette and grabbed a cheap Styrofoam cup.
Alice still recovering from her sudden outburst took another pair of tablets and popped them in her mouth, "Who are you married to?" She snuck up being Bella grabbing the cup and filling it with water to wash down the third set of Tylenol.
"If I knew that then I'd be asking him. Oh god! How can this be happening?"
"At least you don't have to tell your parents. Can you imagine Charlie's reaction? That'd be hysterical." Alice said trying to lighten the mood.
"Yeah, Charlie would be fuming and Renée would be laughing her ass off." Giggled Bella, her parents were an interesting couple. They divorced when she was young, but they were always friends. "It to have been the guy I slept with. I don't know who else I would've married." Stated Bella, clearly more relaxed.
"I can't think, I'm going to take a shower and maybe kill myself", chuckled Bella, grabbing some clothes from her suitcase.
"Bella don't joke, that's not funny." Alice called as Bella entered the bathroom. Alice laid her head down on the down pillow closing her eyes for a moment. Jasper was going to kill her for letting Bella get married in Vegas.
Bella slouched on the shower floor, just like she did in high school. She wasn't great at processing her feelings, but the steady beat of water showering on her back helped her concentrate. As the knots in her back slowly started to unfurl she heard Alice cautiously knock on the door.
"Bella, are you okay? I know you were just joking, but please answer?"
"Yeah, I'm fine I'll be out in a bit." Answered Bella, she finished washing herself, turned off the hot water and grabbed a fluffy towel. As she dried herself off and changed she noticed the engagement ring glisten in the light. It really was a beautiful set; her mother would've adored it. Soon Bella opened the door to a wide awake Alice who was jumping on the balls of her feet with a huge smile plastered on her face.
"What's going on with you?"
"I figured out how to find him. I figured out how to find him!" Alice said in her sing-song voice. "Okay so as you took forever in the shower I started thinking that there must be a record of your marriage. So I called downstairs and asked for the number to chapels near where your mystery husband was staying."
"How do you know where he's staying?" interrupted Bella. When she had seen the ring she flew out of the hotel, if she didn't know where he was staying there was no way Alice did..
"Because you didn't take a cab and you were gone for 15 minutes. There are only a few hotels around here that it could be. So I asked for the number of chapels within 20 minute walking distance from here. And—I found out where you got married!"
"You did? Really? Where? Who am I married to?"
"That's where I ran into a problem. You have to come in person with your ID to prove that you're Isabella Swan. But it's not that far. We'll get there in 10 minutes."
"You found all of this while I was in the shower?" Bella asked incredulously. Alice could always be relied upon.
"Yep" Alice answered excitedly, she was very proud of herself. She had a knack for getting information, all those Nancy Drew books finally paid off.
Before Bella could reply Alice grabbed her hand and instructed her to pick up her already packed bag and dragged her out of the room. "Okay so I told them we will be over there in 15 minutes, it shouldn't take us that long though anyway. We just have to stop and pay for the room and then off we go."
"How are you over your hangover already?" moaned Bella, moving sluggishly behind Alice. The more she thought of finding out who she married the more nervous she got. She knew he was attractive and about her age, but he could be hobo or a clown or a serial killer. She did not do crazy things, she did quiet things. She watched movies at home and baked cookies, read books, researched, and worked. Going to Vegas on the spur of the moment was a fluke; she had needed to get out of her head. Getting shit faced was her plan, marriage was not.
"Bella, hurry up. Once you find out who you're married to the sooner we can come up with what to do." Alice was growing impatient, she needed to have answers now and Bella was not curious enough.
"What do you mean what to do? I'm getting divorced. I can't be married." Bella said immediately, she looked at Alice like she was crazy. Was there ever any doubt that she'd get divorced? Why would she stay married to someone she didn't know?
"Well fine, but you can't get divorced till you know your name. I hope it's like some name that no one can pronounce. Or maybe another duck name, like Bella Goose or Bella Mallard! That'd be amazing!"
"Your exuberance is giving me a migraine."
"It's your animosity that's giving you a migraine, English kid. I know big words too." Alice remarked sticking out her tongue. "And we're here" she exclaimed. "I feel like I'm in Italy. Whoever you married is rich." Alice was twirling in place. Even Bella was having a hard time not staring at the grandeur of the hotel.
"Yeah that's doubtful. I don't choose the good guys. I have a need to help people and solve their problems, it's getting to be a pain."
"Well he has to be staying in this hotel to get married in the chapel so either he's rich or a criminal. If he is a criminal he should be staying in the Bellagio, it'd be like Oceans!" Alice laughed.
Walking into the hotel. It looked spectacular. The two of them followed the many signs pointing them to and fro, somehow arriving in front of a beautiful chapel. A strict looking woman was standing post at the Chapel desk. Her dark hair pulled back in a severe bun and ill-fitting black fabric draped around her.
"Hello maam, I had called earlier this morning asking about the marriage of Bella Swan," Alice reminded kindly.
"Yes I remember you, chipper little thing aren't you? I need to see ID and you must sign here." The woman said, according to her name tag, her name was Gladys and she was glad to meet them. Bella pulled out her wallet and showed her ID to the woman. Gladys nodded quickly. "You must sign here. Goodness, you don't know who you're married to. What has this world come to?" muttered Gladys, her lips forming a harsh line.
"Oh I'm sorry," mumbled Bella, quickly signing her name on the dotted line.
Gladys shifted her gaze from Bella to Alice and then suddenly turned around to face the computer situated behind her. "Let's see, Bella Swan is it? Hmm, oh yes there it is. You were married this morning at 1:17 to a Mr. Edward Cullen. Now if that's all I have some business to attend to."
"Thank you, Golem is it?" Alice asked cheerfully. She turned around happily noticing the stunned look on Gladys' face.
"Golem? How do you even know of Golem, I though you didn't like Lord of the Rings?" giggled Bella.
"I don't, but Jasper does and I've picked up on the lingo. Okay so we just need to go to the hotel front desk and ask for a Mr. Edward Cullen's room number."
Surprisingly the head desk clerk didn't question them and directed them to room 345. Alice led the way as always and Bella followed quietly. Only 5 minutes before Bella had been giggling with Alice, but she was back to being anxious and worried. The burden of her upcoming conversation with Mr. Edward Cullen was weighing on her.
"Okay Bella, here's 345." Alice said interrupting Bella's train of thought. Alice gave her a hug, "B, don't worry it's all going to be fine. It's not as if you have to meet his family." Before she could stop her Alice banged on the door guarding Bella from her husband.
Alice stood jumping on the balls of her feet, while Bella was nervously playing with her hands and biting her lip harder when she heard the door open.
"Hello" The big guy with curly hair from last night answered the door. "Eddie your wife is here!"
"Are you sure?" answered a faint voice presumably belonging to Bella's husband.
"Did either of you drunkenly marry a guy last night?" Emmett asked bluntly.
"Uh yeah, I did." Bella uttered, her face turning red from embarrassment.
"Yes, I'm sure." Emmett yelled back.
They heard rustling come from inside the room,"Hi, you must be my wife. I think we met earlier." Sid Edward coming into view. He had a hint of a smirk in his smile when he came to the door. Bella had to admit that she married handsomely. He was gorgeous and earlier this morning in the towel she did have a hard time looking away.
"Uh,yeah, hi." Bella said awkwardly. She was getting a headache from all the chatter inside her brain.
"Although I'm loving this conjugal reunion I think we should move this little party inside." Alice instructed, making her way into the hotel room. "By the way I'm Alice, her best friend." She immediately sat down on the couch and Emmett promptly followed leaving Edward and Bella to awkwardly fumble around one another.. "So I think we should start by introducing ourselves. I'm Alice, and I've already established I'm Bella's best friend." She said energetically, looking pointedly at Emmett, who quickly caught on.
"Um, I'm Emmett, Eddie's, I mean Edward's, brother."
"I'm Edward, the new husband I guess." Edward chuckled.
"I'm Bella."
"Great now that we know who everyone is, let's talk about the next step." Commanded Alice. "The way I see it there are two options. You can divorce immediately or you can date and see if it works. Bella is partial towards choice one. Thoughts?" Alice looked between Emmett and Edward, waiting for who would speak up first.
"Well I think we should figure the details somewhere not in Las Vegas." Said Emmett.
"Okay, where would you like?" Alice asked.
"Umm, I was thinking my parents place." Volunteered Emmett.
"Edward and I got married after knowing each other for 3 hours and you want to tell your parents about this?" asked Bella incredulously.
"Umm." Emmett muttered, looking at Edward for direction. When none came he continued "Well our mom kind of already knows. She thinks it'd be best if we would talk in a more private setting away from paparazzi."
"Paparazzi? Why would the paparazzi care about us?" Bella was getting more and more nervous. This was becoming more an event then she prepared for.
"I'm sort of the owner of Cullen Enterprises. The paparazzi feed on scandal and drunken mistakes." Edward answered honestly.
"I think we should just get a quickie divorce. I won't ask for half and you never have to see me again. The paparazzi never have to know." Bella proposed. As she said this Edward's face fell, clearly disappointed.
"Please, Bella, I know you have no reason to go, but my mom wants to meet you and make sure this doesn't get out of control. If you come with us, I will go along with anything you want. Divorce, never seeing each other again, whatever. But I need you to come." Edward pleaded. His eyes downcast, it was obvious that he didn't beg very often.
"Okay, I'll come, but only if Alice can come too." Bella resigned, she always did this. She could tell he really needed her to come and hurting feelings was not one of her strong suits.
"Really Bella? That's great, thank you! I can get the tickets and we can leave today. I promise we'll get this all sorted out soon, you'll be home in no time. Which reminds me, where is home?" Edward asked curiously.
"We live in Chicago. you?"
"That's incredible. We live there too."
"Great now that we know all that, let's get our flight figured out, shall we." Emmett said impatiently "My wife wants to know when I'll be home."
"Okay, okay, I'll call the pilot I had on standby, it's a 3 in a half hour flight home, so. I'll let mom know we'll be at the airport in 4 hours."
Bella would've been freaking out about having to meet the rest of Edward's family had she not been obsessing over the fact Edward could afford having a pilot on standby. She was lost in a haze of thought until she heard the pilot's voice over the intercom announcing he was ready for lift off.
