Beginning The Search
Finn walked into the Psychiatrist's office and sat down in his seat. It had been a very long week. Bonnie had told him that usually her patients got monthly appointments but he got weekly ones because she wanted to keep an eye on him. Of course, he hadn't gotten any extra appointments until he had told Bonnie that he wanted to find out who had killed Marceline.
He had spent the week at school on the days that he had it trying to figure out who hated him the most and who was most likely to hold a grudge. Apparently the list was enormous but they would only say that he wasn't the best kid around. Finally, he had had enough and decided to have Bonnie help him.
"Hello Finn," Bonnie said. "How's the search going?"
"I have a massive list of people but when I asked the police about other suspects, they simply said I was the only one because they knew I did it," Finn said.
"Ouch," Bonnie said having spent her week trying to figure out how Finn knew the Marceline from the world she lived in and believed real. "So how can I help?"
"I want you to do a background search," Finn said.
"On who?" Bonnie asked opening her laptop.
"Me," Finn said. "I need to know why the cops are so fixated on me that they're not even considering other people."
Bonnie nodded and started by typing his name on Google and clicked on the first link. Then, her jaw hit the ground.
"What did you find?" Finn asked gripping his pants tightly.
"You," Bonnie stated simply, staring at her screen.
"Enlightening," Finn said. "Care to share?"
"Well," Bonnie said. "You're an unconvicted criminal. Thirty counts burglary, thirty counts breaking and entering, fifteen counts armed robbery, all ended in hung jury due to lack of evidence."
"Is that it?" Finn asked.
"You wish," Bonnie said. "Fifteen counts assault and thirteen counts...manslaughter."
"Do I even want to know how I got away from those?" Finn asked.
"Innocent by self defense," Bonnie said. "And obviously you're the prime suspect for a murder investigation. According to this, they're trying for first degree, which is the death sentence."
"Terrific," Finn said. "Have I ever been in jail or juvie?"
"No," Bonnie said. "But one of the assault cases was close. Apparently you were being charged with someone else. They went to jail and you didn't."
"Who was it?" Finn asked.
"Cody," Bonnie said. "Know anyone by that name?"
"He and some kid named Mitch tried to beat me up the first day I went to school here," Finn said.
"Did you get a last name?" Bonnie asked.
"No," Finn said. "Sorry."
"It's alright," Bonnie said. "I'll see what I can do later. For now, what were the two lead investigators' names?"
"Um...I think one was named something like Simon and the other was...um...Blaze but I think it's just an nick-name or something," Finn said.
Bonny typed them into her computer but couldn't even find they're records as police.
"Can't find them," Bonnie said. "It doesn't matter. Listen, I'm going to do some digging on Mich and Cody. I'll let you know if I find anything. You should probably go home."
Finn nodded and left. When he got home, his mother started supper and they sat at the table to eat. It was spaghetti but it was horrible so Finn simply pushed a meatball around his plate.
"Mom," Finn finally said. "Do you know the kid I got into a fight with, Mitch, I think."
"The Petrikov brat?" his mother asked. "What about him?"
"If he tries to beat me up again am I allowed to fight him?" Finn asked.
"No!" his mother shouted slamming her hands down. "I thought you would have learned that by now!"
Finn pushed his chair back and went to his room then texted Bonnie his name, as best he could. He was still trying to get used to texting.
"K. Cody not the one. Was at Mcdnlds whn mrclene ded," Bonnie replied.
Finn put his phone away and lay on his bed staring at the ceiling. cody wasn't the person he was looking for but that still left Mitch and a laundry list of other people that could have done it. After a while he fell asleep. The search would be long, tiring, and would likely end in Finn being convicted but Finn knew he had to find the person that really did it. And he wouldn't stop looking until he found them.
