Cries of the Egg

Tai was clinging for dear life on the side of the Balloon. As he hung he looked up to see Team Rocket glaring back at him. Jesse growled pulling out a Pokeball. "Seviper knock him off the Balloon!"

POP!" a large black and gold snake with purple markings appeared with a bladed tail. "Seviiiper!" it hissed it's tongue licking the air. Tai gulped as he clung tighter.

"Seviper get that twerp off the Balloon!" Jesse shouted.

"SEVIIPER!" he shouted swinging a poison tail at the side of the balloon Tai had to roll out of the way left and right. Over and over again, He actually managed to get a timing down however Jesse was getting more frustrated.

"Do something else Seviper!" Jesse snapped Seviper nervously looked over. "I don't care what just get him off the balloon!"

Seviper blinked and started wracking his brain on something to do. He suddenly inhaled and puffed up his throat out came a bunch of gunk that Tai yelped trying to dodge only to fall from the balloon. Team Rocket peered over. He was gone.

"I don't know what that was….but nice work Seviper…" Jesse stated in surprise as Seviper proudly purred.

"That must have been Venoshock!" James stated.

"A new move! Ya know the stars are shinin' when something like that happens to us!" Meowth cheered. They all let out cheer and flew on with their prize.

Tai screamed as he fell towards the trees he shut his eyes bracing himself for impact but he bounced off something instead. He groaned sitting up seeing a large Blue and white serpent roar looking up at him. With a tri crest on it's forhead and fins on the side of it's face and a pair of whiskers on it's snout.

"Gy…gy….gy…Gyarados!"

"He won't hurt you!" called a voice Tai looked down to see an orange hair girl wearing a yellow shirt with a red middrift part and a yellow skirt. Her hair was in a side pony tail.

"Misty!" Ash suddenly called as he and Alexa ran up.

"Who," Tai asked.

"My old friends, Misty and Brock; Brock is working on becoming a Pokémon doctor and Misty is the Cerulean city gym leader." Ash explained.

"Good thing they were passing through or I'd be a pancake." Tai sighed.

"What's going on anyway?" Brock asked.

"Team Rocket stole an egg that was at Professor's Oak's lab. Tai had hung on to the balloon to get it back." Ash replied.

"I fell off when their Seviper unleashed some purple sludge from it's mouth." Tai replied.

"Did it have purple light around it?" Brock asked.

"Yeah!" Tai replied.

"That was Veno Shock." Brock replied.

"Veno shock?" Ash asked.

"It's a poison type move that doubles in power when the opponent is poisoned." Brock replied. "If Team Rocket figures this out it could be trouble." Brock replied.

"We still have to get the egg back!" Tai protested.

"We will, but we've gotta be careful of Seviper." Brock replied.

"Either way we'll be fine they're not that smart." Misty pointed out.

Ash folded his arms nodding intently. Tai was tapping his foot as Alexia was looking around. "There's an old mine shaft in the direction they were headed in. "I can't think of a better place to hide out. They could've gone there."

"It did look they were going to a mountain so let's go!" Tai stated running off towards the mountain.

They took off heading towards the mountain. To their surprise, there was a gate barring off people. Ash, Brock, Alexia Misty and had to show different ID. Ash's league accomplishments according to Brock were transferred with his Trainer ID into each Pokedex. Misty showed off the Cascade badge as evidence of her role as the Cerulean Gym Leader, Brock his Doctor in training license and Alexia had a reporter ID. What helped them most of all was Ash having been in so many leagues.

Tai on the other hand was nervous he had nothing to show. "He's with me, I'll keep an eye on him. But we need to go through right away." Ash replied with a tint of Maturity in his voice impressing Misty a little. He was a lot different from when she last saw him.

The Guard hummed but nodded. "Alright, if something happens it's on your head."

"I understand don't worry my brother won't go far from me right?" he asked glancing at Tai.

"Uhh yeah absolutely!" Tai replied.

"Alright go on through." The Guard replied and with that they were off.

"Well done Ash." Misty complimented.

"Ya think so?" Ash asked, she nodded in response he rubbed the back of his head. Tai looked around the area looked pretty rugged there was almost nothing but mountain with shrubbery growing all around.

"It's pretty steep here. But there should be a trail leading into the shaft." Alexia replied as she lead them forward Helioptile curling up on her Phanny pack. Eventually they found a small cave. It was pitch black inside.

"Helioptile use Flash!" Alexia commanded. Helioptile climbed to her head and fanned out it's ears making them large panels he let out a cry and they lit up brightly creating a light they used to move forward.

Team Rocket, were busy scarfing down food. The egg sitting on a table nearby they eventually got full enough to stop. "Ahhh that was a great Victory feast," Jesse muttered.

"I'm so full I'll have to be rolled back into the balloon." James sighed happily.

"When the boss sees we brought him a thank you gift he'll love us even more than when we kicked Team Galactic out of Sinnoh." Meowth added.

"That was the twerp though." James pointed out.

"We helped besides its not like the twerp has any use for that credit." Jesse replied. "And we don't want anything costing us that promotion!" she half-growled.

James nodded a little nervous. "So I guess it's time to go,"

"What do you tink is in the egg?" Meowth asked.

"Who knows, it could be a Dratini." Jesse muttered.

"Or a Bagon.." James replied. "Maybe a Salamence!"

"Or a Mew!" they said cheering.

"Wait! The twerps will try to get the egg back!" James stated. "It's happened before it'll happen again!"

"We can't go back to the boss after a blast off!" Meowth cried out.

"I've got it!" Jesse proclaimed. Slamming a fist into her open palm, "we get the egg to hatch, then capture the Pokemon inside! Then they can't take it from us! Because even though we stole it as an egg we caught it fair and square and they'd be the thieves and we'd be the victims! It's so backward Convoluted and round-about it's brilliant!" Jesse declared laughing maniacally.

"I don't think Brilliant and Convoluted work in the same context…" He muttered.

POP! "Wobuffet!" Said a blue punching bag shaped Pokemon.

"Whatever lets get this thing open!" Jesse said holding the egg.

"Where are they?" Tai asked.

"Maybe they're not here after all…" Misty muttered worried.

"Wait! I hear something!" Alexia suddenly said and they focused. There was sounds of Jesse saying keep rubbing. Tai gasped and ran forward.

"Tai wait!" Ash called. Tai quickly followed the sounds to the room. He could see that Team Rocket were rubbing the egg with a heated towel trying to get it to hatch. Tai suddenly held his head.

"It hurts….It hurts…."

"Stop it you're hurting the egg!" Tai shouted getting their attention.

"We're not hurting it we're trying to make it hatch!" James shouted as Ash and the others rushed in.

"Team Rocket give back that egg right now!" Ash barked.

"We don't take orders from you! Mr. Never learns anything!" Jesse snarked.

"Say the thieves who have nothing to show for trying to steal my Pikachu after four years." Ash snapped.

"Pika Pika!" Pikachu snapped.

"Go Seviper!" Jesse shouted throwing a Pokeball.

"Go Carnivine!" James shouted.

Seviper appeared followed by a large olive green looking Venus fly trap like Pokemon with a body and vines hanging off the bottom with two large leaves. "VINNNNE!" he said happily rushing back at James. Then biting on his head.

"HIIIIEEEEE NOT ME THEM!" James shouted in pain.

"Seviper use Venshock!" Jesse called.

Seviper reared back and started to charge up the attack before splurtting it at them. "Use your Thunderbolt Pikachu!"

"PIKKKKAAA!" he said jumping from Ash's shoulder. "CHUUUUUUU!" he shouted unleashing a burst of Electricity that hit the attack blasting it away.

"Carnivine use Bullet Seed!" James shouted.

"CARN IVINE!" he shouted unleashing a barrage of seeds. Making everyone jumped and dodge.

"Go Crogunk!" Brock shouted.

POP! "Croogunk!" shouted a purple frog like creature with a sinister look on his face two large sacks on his cheeks and black and white markings.

"Use Poison Jab!" Brock shouted.

"CROOOGUNK!" he shouted rushing forward and hitting Carnivine Square chested. He yelped and fell back. Tai was sneaking around looking for the egg and saw Meowth still trying to rub it. Tai heard the cries again and glared.

"I SAID STOP!" he shouted unconsciously kicking Meowth and sending him bouncing around the room as Tai picked up the egg. He looked at it worried.

"GIVE DAT BACK!" Meowth stated slashing his face with scratch Tai screamed in pain alerting Ash who gasped Tai was on his knees holding the egg in one arm while holding his face with the other. Meowth tried to take the egg while he was distracted but Tai grabbed it and pulled as hard as he could making Meowth slip. Tai held on tightly to the egg. Jesse and James gasped at this point.

"Seviper after him!" Jesse shouted.

"You too Carnivine!" James shouted.

Panicked Tai ran as fast as he could out of the cave he couldn't hear anyone calling to him all he was focused on was protecting that egg. He found himself in a large cave looking around scared wondering where to go. He heard Team Rocket's Pokemon Catching up and rushed forward only trip over something he landed on his back but he suddenly saw a large bear like Pokemon with a yellow ring on it's belly growl at him. He gasped and tried to crawl away but it roared unleashing a powerful Mega Punch attack at him.

"AAHHHH!" Tai cried in horror was he began to run He tried to run back but found himself cornered by Team Rocket's Pokemon he quickly ran the other way they were about to give chase but they were suddenly slammed into Team Rocket by Ursaring who unleashed a Hyper Beam at them. They gasped in horror and shut their eyes as they were hit and blown up right through the ceiling of the cave.

"TEAM ROCKET'S BLASTING OFF AGAIN!" they shouted dinging in the sky.

Tai was backed up against the wall of a Rock chasm he gulped and looked down at the egg. All he could think to do was curl up into a ball his back to Ursaring and the egg being held tightly. Praying he wouldn't break it.

"Please go away….." Tai whimpered in his thoughts.

The Ursaring growled at Tai it was charging up a Hyper beam when a burst of blue fire rushed into it's side and knocked it away. Tai gasped and turned to see it fighting with a large fire type Monkey Pokemon. With red and white fur, gold armor with fire flowing from the top of his head; it was currently in a grappling match with the Ursaring. Tai stared at the fight his mind drifting around

The image of a Pokemon appeared before him. "This is an Infernape…"

"Infernape," Tai repeated with several other voices beside him

"In….fern…ape…" Tai muttered.

"Infernape use Mach Punch!" Ash commanded as he appeared in the room. Infernape let out a cry reared back and slugged Ursaring with a force that was too fast to track. Ursaring snarled and slammed his own fist at Infernape who backflipped away.

"Flamethrower!" Ash commanded.

"INFERRRRNNNNN!" he roared unleashing an intense heat that made Ursaring cry and pain and run finally. When it was over Ash was able to find Tai and run over to him.

"Are you okay?" Ash asked.

"Ye…yeah…" Tai replied then gasped as the others showed up. He gasped and looked at the egg. There was a large crack in it. "No….I BROOOOKKKEEE ITTT!" Tai cried wailing but the egg suddenly made another crack before glowing.

"No Tai it's hatching!" Brock shouted.

Tai stopped and looked at the egg in awe as it glew brightly. It exploded into light revealing a small blue jackal Pokemon with tiny ears large black loops hanging from it's head like an extra pair of ears. Large blue paws with a white stone in the hand, and large Black feet and a large tail.

"It's a Riolu!" Ash said happily.

"Pika!" Pikachu cheered happily.

Riolu whimpered and began to run. They gasped and rushed after it. Eventually it hid in a cave. "Riolu wait Riolu!" Tai cried.

"I bet Team Rocket made it scared of people." Misty said sadly.

"Them and whoever put him on that truck." Ash added as Tai watched sadly.

"Riolu…."

Later the group, were camping by the cave. Tai had taken a bowl of food he got from Brock. He put it down by the small cave. Rio was watching carefully.

"It's for you." Tai replied a little pleadingly. "You need to eat so you can grow up big and strong."

"Rriii." Riolu muttered fearfully.

"We won't hurt you I promise!" Tai begged. "Those mean humans that took you aren't here any more we saved you from them!"

"Rrmmm." Riolu muttered fearfully. Tai didn't know what to do. All he could do he just sat there talking as much as he could. Brock and the others were watching however as Tai kept talking Riolu started to come out. He got closer and closer to the bowl. He looked up at Tai who nodded. Riolu stared at the food worriedly.

"It's safe see!" Tai stated taking a bit and taking a bite to eat he was expecting it taste weird but it didn't he smiled and happily ate his piece. "See?"

"Raahh!" Riolu smiled brightly and began to eat.

Tai smiled and reached out to pet him but Ash grabbed his hand and shook his head Tai sighed sadly as Riolu ate happily. Eventually Riolu finished and began to fall asleep. Everyone else eventually turned in for the night but Tai didn't move from that spot he just watched Riolu sleep. Petting him a gust of wind blew and Riolu shivered Tai picked him up held him close covered in a blanket. He looked up at the sky.

"Somewhere, out there, is my home. Yours too, but if we can't find it, you can stay with me? Is that okay?" Tai asked Riolu who merely yawned in his sleep and turned over.

Tai smiled finally succumbing to sleep. The sun rose and Riolu found himself next to Tai he was holding him gently and was sound asleep. He lightly tapped Tai in the face making him wake up. "Huh? Riolu!" Tai said happily. Rio jumped a few steps back watching Tai a little warily. Tai held out his hand.

Riolu looked at it and hesitated but he slowly but surely came closer. Tai wasn't aware that Ash and Pikachu were watching from the distance. Rio took Tai's hand and held it. Tai lightly shook it. "How do you do?"

Riolu barked happily and shook Tai's hand back. They smiled at each other as did Ash and Pikachu.

Back at Professor Oak's Lab Brock was checking out Riolu who fidgeted on Tai's lap. Brock listened to his heart and then looked into his ears. He nodded. "Perfectly healthy; Team Rocket rubbing him as an egg didn't cause any damage. He was close to hatching enough that it wouldn't we're lucky." Brock stated.

"Alright!" Ash cheered.

"Ya hear that?" Tai asked.

"Braf!" Rio happily replied letting Misty pet his head.

"He's such a cutie." She said happily as Rio cooed in reply.

"Professor Oak, can I take Riolu as my Pokemon?" Tai asked.

"Of course! You found him as an egg seems fitting." Professor Oak replied.

"I agree!" Alexia replied. Tai grinned happily and hugged Riolu tightly as the Pokemon hugged him back.

"When you're ready I'll give you a Pokedex and Pokeballs!" Professor Oak said.

"Thank you so much!" Tai said happily. The two took off playing happily in the ranch with other Pokemon.

"We can confirm that the experiment survived the explosion." Looker muttered going over the data they had found.

"I'll tell you what I can." Riley assured.

"That would be helpful. According to this Team Rocket enhanced it's power." Looker replied. The Phone rang he picked it up. "Yes? Yes, I am working on the Aura Surge case. What you and Petross? I see….Alright I'll prepare here with Riley you come when you're ready to depart."
