Ch. 4

Getting A New Wand

Three and a half weeks have passed since Harry came to live with Susan and Amelia, and he was enjoying every second of it. After a week to a week and a half, Harry decided to name his owl Hedwig, a name he read in one of the books he bought from Flourish and Blotts. It was August 25th, which happened to be Susan's eleventh birthday. Harry had gotten up around 5:30 AM, as he was still used to it, then he went to use the bathroom, and went to wait by Susan's bedroom door once he finished taking care of his business. Harry waited for about five minutes before Susan opened her bedroom door, and he gave her a big, birthday hug.

"Happy birthday, Susan!" said Harry in a cheerful voice.

"Thank you, Harry!" said Susan as she hugged Harry back.

So the two jogged downstairs, where Amelia had breakfast, waiting for them.

"Happy birthday, Susan!" said Amelia as she went to give her niece a big, birthday hug.

"Thanks, auntie!" said Susan, hugging her aunt back.

"Now let's eat, so we can get your party ready!" Amelia told her niece.

So Harry and Susan sat down to eat breakfast, finishing up a little faster than usual, that way they could get changed into their swimsuits (or swim shorts in Harry's case). Hannah, Neville and their families were the first guests to arrive. A few more families were also guests, and they, too arrived some minutes after Neville, Hannah and their families arrived.

Meanwhile, Albus was checking on the silver instruments that were on his desk. He couldn't, for the life of him figure out what caused the instruments to collapse and stop working. Something sure didn't seem right, so Albus left his office and apparated over to Privet Drive once he was outside the wards. After transfiguring his colourful robes into muggle clothes, he walked up to the Dursleys front door and knocked, with Petunia answering the door.

"What do you want?" she asked rudely.

"To know where Harry is." said Albus.

"He doesn't live here anymore," said Petunia. "We gave him up like three and a half weeks ago."

"To whom?" asked Albus.

"Some lady with a monocle and copper hair turning gray." said Petunia. "Now get lost, I don't want you or any more of your kind to do anything to my precious Duddykins. That giant of yours gave him a stupid pigs tail!"

Then she slammed the door shut in Albus' face. He realized that Petunia gave him a description of Amelia, then he also realized that the howler she sent him was a clear enough indication that she interfered with his well thought-out plans. As Albus walked to a secluded area, he also realized that Hagrid must've used magic to give Dudley a pigs tail for some reason. Once he had the time, he would ask Hagrid why Dudley was given a pigs tail. He needed to go to the Burrow to inform Molly that Harry isn't with his relatives. Once he was in a secluded area, he apparated over to the driveway leading to the Weasleys' house. Once he reached the front door of the Burrow, Albus knocked and Ginny answered.

"Professor," she greeted. "Did you find Harry yet?"

"No, but I have figured out where he may be," said Albus. "I'll need to talk to you, your mother and your brother, Ronald."

"Okay, come on in and I'll go..." said Ginny.

"Albus," greeted Molly as she came downstairs upon hearing the knock. "Did you locate Harry anywhere?"

"No," said Albus as he walked in and closed the door. "But I have an idea where he could be."

"Where at?" asked Molly as she, Ron, Ginny and Albus walked over to the living room and sat down.

"I believe he may be at Bones Manor," Albus deduced. "The howlers she sent to us strongly implies it."

"Why couldn't Harry just stay with his muggle relatives?" wondered Molly. "Surely he'd be grateful to us if we were the ones to rescue him."

"Yeah, he would've been so grateful that he and I would be best mates forever." said Ron.

"And to eventually date and marry me," said Ginny. "I've been planning my wedding with Harry for years now."

"We won't be able to go to Bones Manor," Albus deduced once more. "After sending those howlers, Amelia likely took measures to ensure that the four of us can't get through the wards. But that doesn't apply to Hogwarts grounds, so the plan is still going to work."

"And as long as Harry ends up in Gryffindor, the plan will succeed with much more ease." said Molly.

Back at Bones Manor, Susan was having a blast at her birthday party. Harry was a little tense with the other kids his age being there, he was still only comfortable around Susan, Hannah and Neville. Harry did properly meet Hannah's parents a couple weeks ago. When he entered the hot tub with Susan, they were joined by Neville and Hannah. A few minutes later, they were joined by three more girls, one had brown hair and the other two had blonde hair.

"Hi Harry," said the one of the blonde haired girls, holding a hand out at Harry. "I'm Daphne Greengrass."

"It's nice to meet you, Daphne." said Harry as he shook Daphne's hand.

"I'm Daphne's sister, Astoria," said the other blonde haired girl, holding her hand out at Harry. "But I often go by Tori."

"Nice to meet you, too, Tori." said Harry as he shook hands with her.

"I'm Tracey Davis." said the brown haired girl, holding a hand out at Harry.

"Nice to meet you, Tracey." said Harry, shaking her hand.

Harry continued to get to know Daphne, Tracey and Tori. Daphne and Tori also introduced Harry to their parents, and Tracey even introduced Harry to her parents. Daphne and Tracey told Harry that they would be starting their first year this year, while Tori had to wait for another two years. Three more boys approached Harry, two of them were twins with red hair while the third one had dark skin and dreadlocks.

"Hello Harry, we're Fred and George Weasley." said the twins in unison.

"And I'm Lee Jordan." said the boy with dreadlocks.

Harry shook their hands, one by one. Then Fred and George asked Harry to follow them over to where their father was, who also had red hair.

"Hi Harry, I'm Arthur Weasley," said Fred and George's father, shaking Harry's hand. "I do apologize for the behaviour of my wife and my youngest children. Amelia told me what all was going on."

"It's not your fault, Mr. Weasley," assured Harry. "They're the ones who should be ashamed, especially with drawing up that void contract."

"Yeah, Amelia also told me about that, and how it made Susan cry." said Arthur, then he decided that it was best to change the subject. "If you don't mind, I'd like to discuss muggle related subjects with you."

"I'd be happy to." said Harry.

So he filled Arthur in with a number of things that muggles did. Harry even mentioned what rubber ducks were used for, what the purpose of plugs were, and even what airplanes did. Arthur was fascinated with that, helping him to understand what all muggles can accomplish a bit better. Susan's birthday party passed by too fast it seemed like, but Harry and Susan knew that time passed by quickly when you're having fun. Approximately ten to fifteen minutes after the party ended, Susan saw Harry with a confused look and went over to talk to him.

"You okay, Harry?" she asked.

"Yeah," said Harry. "But... for some reason, I just tried practicing a spell with my wand, but I couldn't because it felt really heavy."

"Did the wand work for you before?" asked Susan.

"Yes, it did," said Harry. "When I bought it from Ollivanders, but now it doesn't seem like it wants to cooperate with me."

"Maybe it only chose you because of that soul fragment that used to be embedded into your scar," Susan guessed. "Let's go tell auntie, maybe she knows something."

"Good point," agreed Harry. "The sooner we inform her, the better."

So he and Susan went to Amelia's office and told her about Harry's wand. She told them that they'll need to go to Ollivanders tomorrow, so Harry can get a different wand. Once Harry and Susan went to sleep, Amelia decided that she needed to speak with the unspeakables about the soul fragment that was within Harry.

The next day after breakfast, Amelia took Harry and Susan over to Ollivanders to get Harry another wand that would choose him. Mr. Ollivander looked up when he heard the door open, along with the bell dingling.

"Ah, Mr. Potter, Miss Bones, and Madam Bones," greeted Mr. Ollivander. "What may I do for you?"

"Well, my wand stop working properly, which I found out yesterday," said Harry, handing the box with his wand in it to the wand maker. "It wouldn't let me raise it by more than an inch."

"Hmm, interesting," said Mr. Ollivander. "I do wonder why."

"Well, my scar had a soul fragment in it when I purchased the wand," Harry explained. "It was eventually removed when I went to Gringotts for the reading of my parents' will the next day."

"Oh, I see," Mr. Ollivander realized. "Well, let's find you a different wand, Mr. Potter."

Harry tried at least five wands without success. The sixth wand Harry tried was made of ebony wood, with the handle being a dark colour, with tiny emeralds embedded into it. When Mr. Ollivander handed the wand to Harry, he grasped it and he felt a flow of warmth, which told Harry that the wand chose him.

"It's really rare to see a wizard or witch have that kind of wand, Mr. Potter," stated Mr. Ollivander. "Those who wield this kind of wand are bound to be powerful someday. The wand also has a sliver of bone from a Hungarian Horntail, one of the most fiercest dragons for it's core."

"Wow!" said Harry with fascination in his voice.

"But do be careful, Harry," said Amelia. "It wouldn't do any good to hurt yourself or others."

"Yes, auntie, I'll be careful." assured Harry.

So Harry paid for the wand, giving Mr. Ollivander a generous tip in the process. Once they left, Harry, Susan and Amelia headed back to The Leaky Cauldron and flooed back home to Bones Manor. Harry and Susan knew they needed to get prepared for their first school year that was due to start in less than a week.
