Author's note: Hey!
Okay, this fic's been on hiatus for long enough. Time to finish it, once and for all!
Thanks to everyone who stuck around for the end of the journey!
Part Four: Rendezvous
Rosa pedalled as fast as she could, her two long pigtails trailing behind her in the wind. The smile wouldn't leave her face as her sneaker-clad feet pushed the bike on, towards Nimbasa City.
He had the day off today. It was a miracle upon miracles! He almost never got the day off, so she was going to make sure to make the most of it!
Seeing the Ferris wheel in the distance, she pedalled faster. When she saw a figure standing beside it, her smile widened. There he was, wearing his casual clothes. She honestly much preferred them to his stage clothes. He looked far more homely and welcoming.
Grinding the bike to a stop, she hopped off it and ran over to him.
"Hey, Curtis!" she said.
"Hey, Rosa!" he replied, a happy blush on his face. "Glad you could make it."
"Eeek! Wow! Wow!" a girl next to him suddenly said. "So this is what you look like in casual wear!"
Rosa blinked at her. "Huh?" she asked. "Oh, uh... hi?"
The girl blinked back. Then she giggled. "Tee-hee! Oh, right. You don't recognise me at all, do you?"
"Um... nope, sorry."
"It's me, Nancy!" She jumped slightly. "Oops, I mean Yancy." She lowered her voice. "Yancy's my real name."
Rosa's eyes widened. "Nan- Yancy?"
"Yep! I came to drop off Chris- I mean Curtis for his date! Gosh, having aliases can be so confusing, sometimes..."
Rosa chuckled. "Don't I know it..."
"Well, have fun on your date, you two! Think of poor old me, won't you?"
"... Sure?"
"Yeah, sure!" Curtis replied.
Waving, Yancy began to walk away. "Byeeee~!" she said.
Once she'd gone, Rosa had a question for Curtis. "What did she mean by that?" she asked.
"Oh, uh..." Curtis replied. He suddenly looked rather guilty. "She kind of had to take on more work, so that I could have a day off. So she'll be working really hard today."
Rosa's eyes widened. "No kidding?"
"Yeah. I kept saying she didn't need to do that, but she insisted. She sees us as kind of a fairytale and wishes she had that."
She blinked. "... She wishes she'd met a guy by finding his Xtransceiver?"
Curtis chuckled. "Something like that."
Rosa also chuckled. "Well, I'll have to thank her later."
He smiled. "Yeah. Now we can spend the whole day together!"
"Yeah!"
"... Um... so... where do we start?"
"Well, we usually ride the Ferris wheel when we come here, so how about that?"
"Sure, sounds good!"
Rosa had always loved this view. Looking out over Nimbasa City from the top of the Ferris wheel, she could see the Pikachu and Pichu landmark, the Audino landmark, the lovely gardens and fountains, and many large, colourful buildings.
Afterwards, maybe they could visit a few of them. They could watch a fashion show, or even a battle in Elesa's gym. Or watch pokémon dress up and dance in the Musical Theatre. Or maybe watch some sports in either the Big Stadium or the Small Court.
She'd suggest trying the Gear Station, but Curtis wasn't much of a battler.
There were so many things to do today!
"... Did you know they call this the Rondez-View Ferris wheel?" Curtis suddenly asked.
She looked over at him. He used to sit opposite her, but now he was sitting next to her.
"Hmm?" she asked.
"I only found that out recently. Ah ha ha, it's a pretty cool pun, isn't it?"
She chuckled. "Yeah, it is. A rendezvous with a view!"
"Yeah..." He glanced out of the window. "... The Unova region sure is pretty, isn't it?"
"It sure is."
"... But it's not the only pretty thing that's around here."
She blinked at him. Wait... hadn't he said that line before, at some point?
Yeah. Some other time, back when they'd still only been friends, he'd said it. At the time, she hadn't really understood what he'd meant. He'd been staring out the window while saying it and he hadn't commented on it afterwards.
She'd wondered if he'd meant her, but hadn't been confident enough to ask.
"I wish the whole world could go slower," he continued. "This Ferris wheel... Time..."
He'd said something like this before, too. She continued to stare at him, his gaze never leaving the window. His face seemed to be reddening slightly, though.
"... Curtis?"
He turned to look at her. "Yeah?"
She smiled warmly. "Me too."
He smiled back just as warmly. Leaning in slowly, his lips gently grazed hers. Lost in the moment, her heart all aflutter, she gave a gentle kiss back. He pulled away, looking embarrassed, yet satisfied.
"I've... wanted to do that for quite a while now," he admitted.
"Yeah, me too."
He reached down and put a hand over hers, going back to looking out the window.
"You're rather sappy, but I like that about you," she said.
She watched as his face went slightly redder. "Ah ha ha... I'm not that sappy."
"You're pretty sappy."
"... Alright, maybe a little."
She looked out of her own window. "So where do you wanna go after this?"
"I dunno."
"Well, there's the rollercoaster, the stadiums, the musical..."
"... Join Avenue is close by, isn't it?"
She glanced over at him. "Well, yeah, but..."
"Can I go see it?" He turned to smile at her. "I'd like to see it."
"Well, alright, but it's not that interesting. Just a line of stalls, really."
"Still. I've been wanting to learn about you, so that's a good place to start, isn't it? I also wanna hear about all your adventures, like the Pokémon League, the PWT, Pokéstar Studios... and even the stuff about Team Plasma."
"Heh. Okay, sure. I'll pretty much be talking all day, though."
"That's fine. It's usually me doing the talking, anyway."
"True."
There was a comfortable silence between them for a short while, as they went back to looking out the windows.
Eventually, Curtis spoke again. "Maybe next time we go on a date, we could go to the Marine Tube? Though I can't remember which city that was in..."
"Even though you made a song about it?" she teased, turning back to him. "It's in Undella Town."
"Ah. That's a long way away from Nimbasa City."
"Not if you have a Pokémon with Fly, it's not."
He looked over at her, slightly wide-eyed. "Really?"
"Yeah. We could get there and back, in no time."
"Oh, well... sure, then!" He smiled. "That'd be nice."
Once they'd climbed off the Ferris wheel, Curtis laughed awkwardly. "Ah ha ha..." he said, "so, uh... should we still do the usual trade, since we're here?"
"Mmm, later," she replied, grabbing his hand. "Let's just enjoy the day, and we'll trade pokémon before we leave, okay?"
He beamed at her. "Okay."
She blushed lightly. "I liked trading with you, because it was like taking a little piece of you away with me. Kinda like a promise we'd meet again. You know?"
"Yeah, I know exactly what you mean."
"So of course we should do that. But, for now, do you still wanna see Join Avenue?"
"Of course I do."
"Come on, then!"
Leaving her bike where she'd chained it up, she ran towards Join Avenue, happily pulling along her boyfriend behind her.
They were set to have a fantastic first date.
The End
