Vanessa was going past each of the shops in the Googolplex mall browsing each one with a smile. They were in wal-mart going through the clothes on the rack, Vanessa looking at all the black clothes as usual
"Dad, what do you think of this top? Is it too much?" she said holding the top up to herself.
Her dad however was holding up a small green jacket and a red tie "do you think this would go with jeans?"
Vanessa raised an eyebrow "dad, that jacket is way too small for you…"
"I know, it's not for me"
"Then who's it for?"
Doofenshmirtz blushed at the answer "a-a friend…erm, he needed some clothes and he asked me to get some new…what do kids say these days? …'threads'?"
Vanessa looked up and down at the odd combination of clothes that her father held up. She put the clothes back and put her hands on her hips "as long as you promise never to say something like that again, I'll help you pick out some suitable clothes for your friend"
Doofenshmirtz looked at the clothes and back at his daughter "…what's wrong with the clothes I picked?"
"Well unless your friend is a circus clown I highly doubt he'll wanna wear something like this" she picked up the red tie to demonstrate
"…point taken" he put the clothes down and followed his daughter around the store "what did you have in mind?"
Perry was still walking around DEI still getting used to his extended legs. He still found it annoying that he couldn't talk even though his was human, rubbing his throat every so often. "g-g-g-grrrt…" he discovered after a while and he supposed it was better than nothing.
He wandered towards a door and opened it curious to see which room this was. Everything inside the closet fell in a heap on the floor and Perry fell to the floor with it. He panted from the shock but calmed himself down crouching on his knees next to the pile. He started put the stuff back into the boxes looking at each item before placing them back where they were. About 30 vases (5 of them broken), 6 jigsaw puzzles all with missing pieces and many photographs of a young Doofenshmirtz with his daughter were among the list of items. He found a photo of Heinz and Charlene on their wedding day, Doofenshmirtz in a black tuxedo and his wife in the usual white gown. He had never seen his nemesis like this before, it was quite a change from the lab coat and black jumper he used to see him in every day. This was more…'elegant'.
Perry blushed feeling his cheeks get warm 'wow, he looks h-handsome…' he quickly put the photo away and continued sorting out the pieces.
Doofenshmirtz was standing at the counter with Vanessa who had picked out few outfits for her dad's friend which included a pair of jeans, an assortment of tops, black trousers, a brown jacket, a black tie and a white shirt. This was digging way into his wallet but he secretly didn't mind that much.
"This is for Perry, remember…" he muttered under his breath as he handed the cashier the money "just for Perry…"
"Perry?" Vanessa asked taking some of the bags
"Peter, i-i-I said Peter…t-that's his name." Doofenshmirtz responded quickly hiding the blush in his cheeks with a bashful smile.
"Peter…huh. Well my mum invited you round to see her new boyfriend maybe you can take him with you"
Doofenshmirtz blinked carrying the other bags "since when did she have a boyfriend? And why would she want to invite me round"
Vanessa shrugged "something about making you jealous I think"
"…I don't know whether to be flattered or not"
"So will you bring him round?"
"Yeah yeah sure" he said not thinking. 'What did I just agree to?!' he screamed in his head.
Perry was now looking through a box marked 'old toys.' He pulled out a plastic device covered in letters and numbers named 'Speaker Buddy'. He pressed one of the letters
"M" it sounded in a electronic response
Perry jumped slightly but smiled at its ability. He pressed a few more letters
"H-I M-Y N-A-M-E I-S P-E-R-R-Y" it didn't sound exactly like it should have. Perry tried again using the sounds rather than letters
"U R T 1"
Perry blushed feeling his heart pace faster
"I L-V U D-O-K-T"
Perry sighed putting the device back in its box and shutting the door. He sat back on the bed waiting for him to return home.
Doofenshmirtz was now at a café picking up some lunch for him and Vanessa, nothing special just a few sandwiches. Sitting at the table next to them were a couple holding hands and looking deep into each other's eyes. Doofenshmirtz couldn't help but think of Perry.
"H-hey Vanessa…"
She looked up from her meal "yeah dad?"
He pulled on his collar "do you know much about…couples?"
"I'm sixteen dad I think I know a bit. Why do you want to know?"
"i-I'm just wondering what your views are on…g-gay couples."
Vanessa blinked "wh-what? Why do you want to know that?"
"…w-well your mother has always said I should get to know you more a-and I'm just asking"
"I don't think she meant it like that Dad…" she breathed in "but if you want to know then yes I'm ok about homosexuals. Love is love no matter what gender and I think that there's nothing wrong with falling in love with someone different."
There was an awkward pause between the two of them
"So you're ok with it then?"
"Yes dad I'm fine with it. It's just odd that you came up with that almost like you were suggesting that you we-"
"Vanessa! I'm not! I'm not gay alright?"
"Ok ok! I was just saying."
"Great. Just making sure we're clear."
They both returned to their sandwhiches sparing the odd glance across the table.
"You can be weird sometimes dad you know that?"
"I know"
They both smiled at each other like fathers and daughters do.
