Chapter 4

Evelyn's p.o.v.

"Emmett" I squeaked. It was difficult to speak up and I had no idea wether it was from screaming earlier or because Emmett was running with the speed of cheetah.

Emmett looked down at me for a quick second, "Edward is having trouble holding Jasper back, I'm sorry Evelyn but I'm not stopping."

I felt nauseous. Nauseous and dizzy, as if there was a fog spreading through my brain followed by a tingling sensation running through my hands and fingers. I couldn't even begin to comprehend what had happened back at the Cullen residence. Stuff which usually only happens in nightmares. His eyes, his teeth. I should have known, how could I have missed the signs? The strange eye colour, the light complexion, the cold touch, everything should have been a warning sign. I thought moving to Forks would be the solution to my problem and now here I was right in the middle of what I tried to escape from. I looked up at Emmett, his amber eyes shining brightly. I could feel the coldness of his hand spreading through my clothes. I had to get away from here. Oh gosh, Bella! Did she know?

"Shit!" Emmett cursed. He abruptly stopped as Edward and Jasper flew past us and crashed, yet again, into a couple of trees.

"Please excuse me, Evelyn." Emmett said and without warning dropped me on the floor and went after his two brothers.

"Emmett are you insane, get her out of here!" I heard Edward yell at his sibling.

I had no idea what was going on, but I knew I would not get another chance. With those three enganged, now was the time to make a run for it. Quickly I crawled up and started to run away. I didn't get very far. Something hard like solid rock hit me in the back and I tumbled over. I groaned out loud and pushed myself up with my elbows. I turned my head to see what had hit me, though it was perfectly obvious it had something to do with the Cullen men. I looked straight into the black coal eyes of Jasper.

He grabbed my shoulders with his hand, nails digging into my skin. His fangs exposed as he growled through gritted teeth. "No, stop..." I whimpered. "Don't hurt me."

Jasper blinked, his eye colour flickered for a second. I breathed rapidly, not looking away from his gaze, "Please, don't. J-just let go of me." Was I crying?

Jasper shook his head, blinked a few times and his eyes went back to a sparkling amber shade,
"What in the name of,-" Edward and Emmett both appeared behind Jasper and pulled him away from me. I crawled back and wiped my tears away. It worked? Again?

"Guys, let me go." Jasper demanded from his brothers.

"You have got to relax first! Emmett, get Evelyn back to the house. I can handle this." Edward said looking all wild and full of energy. Emmett nodded and walked over to me.

"I'm fine, Edward." Jasper said again. He looked at Edward whose expression all of a sudden changed from fury to calm. Without replying he released Jasper. At that same moment I grabbed hold of Emmett's arm. Then I rememebered what he was, what they all were. I was surrounded by a bunch of vampires.

"I don't understand what just happened…" Jasper said filled with confusion.

"You went totally berserk. That's what happened." Emmett told him," In all fairness, you gave us a good work out."

Jasper looked at me. His eyes filled with worry, his body language told me he was struggling with either staying put or moving closer. Why were they not on me by now, sucking the life out of me.

"We are not like that." I turned my head to Edward who had spoken up. "I know what you're thinking, but for Bella's sake, trust me when I say we mean no harm to you, or her."

The throbbing pain in my shoulders suggested otherwise, but it was true that Edward as well as Emmett tried to stop Jasper. This was getting weirder by the minute. I looked back at Jasper who was still eyeing me intensely. My heart started to beat, increasing its speed the longer I looked at this man before me. I started to feel nauseous again, differently, some form of hunger but not for food. A lump formed in my throat.

"Did I hurt you, ma'am?" Jasper asked me. My breathing hitched and a soft gasp escaped my lips. There was something wrong here, why wasn't I screaming like I had done a few minutes ago? I couldn't look away, as if there was an invisible thread between us, pulling us closer towards one another. Could they put you under a spell? In movies they can. Was I imagining things or was he looking at me in exactly the same way?

"Oh-oh…" Edward said breaking the silence.

We all looked at him, his gaze went from me to Jasper.

"What?" Emmett asked. Edward didn't answer, instead he ran his hand through his hair and let out, what sounded like, a groan of frustration.

"Alice warned me." He said," I thought she was kidding. I don't know wether this complicates things or makes them easier."

"What are you talking about?" Emmett exclaimed looking just as confused as I felt. "What did she say?"

"How can you endure this…feeling, this constant pull?" Jasper asked Edward.

"O, o. Wait are you serious? Sweet! Who would have known?" Emmett started to laugh. My eyes darted between the three men. I had no idea what they were talking about but it seemed pretty clear there were mixed feelings amongst them.

Edward didn't answer Jasper's question. He walked towards me in a slow pace then extended his hand and said my name. "Evelyn?"

I jumped away from his reach. "Stay back!"

"I will take you back to Bella." He continued ignoring my words.

"I mean it Edward!"
I can't believe this…so Bella knows? And why aren't their eyes red? They should be red!

"Yes, Evelyn. Bella's knows and our eyes are not red because we're,-" He paused for a second," We don't live off of blood."

I narrowed my eyes and glared at him," Excuse me?"

Jasper placed his hand on Edwards shoulder, but never took his eyes off me. Edward stepped aside, giving his brother room to move my way. He stopped in front of me and calmly reached out to grab hold of my hand. I tried to pull it free but he was stronger and reluctant to let go.

"Ma'am, I'm sorry.I didn't mean to scare you or hurt you. I don't know what came over me." I felt out of breath and my knees started to buckle.

"I don't know what to believe." I managed to say.

"Don't you feel it?" He asked, his voice was so soft and deep. A warm sensation spread over me. Jasper let go of my hand as my mind tried to cope with what had just happened. My eyes travelled to Edward. Vegetarian vampires?

As a response he nodded and I took a deep breath. Telepathic abilities?
"Mind reading, but its dormant unless I feel the need to use it." Edward told me. "Some of us have other abilities."

Great...

"Well, at least Jasper managed to use his self-control in time, otherwise we wouldn't be standing here talk,-"

"Emmett!" Jasper shouted. Emmett raised his hands in defence and stepped back. Edward frowned at Jasper, who in turn looked back at me. He didn't seem convinced by Emmett's explanationand neither did Edward.

"I'd like to go back now."

Bella was only gone for not even 5 minutes and the entire world went crazy. Okay, maybe it was just Jasper who went crazy according to Esme. Emmett had run of with her cousin as Edward tried to stop Jasper. In vain, as all of them were now somewhere in the woods. She bit the nail of her thumb to try and calm down. She felt annoyed that she couldn't go after them, Evelyn's car was completely destroyed and with Jasper in a frenzy it was too dangerous anyway. Somehow she knew Edward would be able to calm him down but still she felt anxious. Not long after Esme had informed her, Alice arrived in Edward's Volvo. As soon as she stepped out of the car she started telling Bella and Esme about a vision she had a few days ago.

"If I had known she was your family I would have told you and tried everything to stop this from happening." She said obviously crushed by the whole ordeal. Esme had her arm around Alice, comforting her. "It wasn't your fault, you couldn't have known. You can't see everything…there's so much you're already watching for us."

"But I knew Jasper's mate would turn up eventually… but I could never see how or when or who she was." Alice replied trying to take the blame. " I didn't even know she is his singer. If I had known that I,-"

"Sh-sh, stop, sweetheart. Enough with the guilt. You did not know." Esme said soothingly to her daughter.

Bella was incredibly confused by all of this. She had always thought that Alice was Jasper's mate. Even though she never asked, it just seemed the way it was suppose to be. Still no sign of Edward or Evelyn. Bella sighed and kept pacing. She must have crossed the entire living room more than twenty times already.

"She's fine, Bella…"Alice suddenly said. "They are on their way here."

"Thank goodness." She replied exhaling deeply.

"They'll be here in 20 seconds." Alice added. Immediately they went outside. Bella searched for a sign of life between the trees. And then they appeared, Edward held Evelyn on his back. Bella sighed with relief at the sight of them. They stopped in front of her and Evelyn slid off Edward's back. Both were followed closely by Emmett and Jasper. Emmett looked fine, but Jasper on the other hand looked worse for wear. His eyes followed every move Evelyn made and his face looked absolutely guilt-ridden. No e of them had ever seen him like that before. Alice ran over to him and embraced him.

Bella dropped herself quickly in Edwards's arms before asking Evelyn if she was alright.

"Depends on how you define alright." She pointed her finger at Bella. "You and I need to have a talk."

The Cullen's secret was out now. How was it that they managed to keep Charlie in the dark, but Evelyn knew within a few days?

"About the Cullens and what they are?" Bella guessed.

"That'll be one of the subjects, yes." Evelyn replied, her eyes darting between everyone standing amongst them.

"She already had sort of a hunch ever since she met me." Edward said to Bella, who looked at him, puzzled.

"How?" She asked. Edward shrugged and looked at her cousin, apparently she hadn't told anyone yet.

"Look, that I'd rather not discuss at this moment. Bella, let's just,-" She paused mid sentence and looked at something over her cousin's shoulder.

"My car!" She exclaimed running towards her vehicle. Evelyn bent down and let her fingers run over the huge dent in her car, which was also upside down.
"I-I, wha-what..."

Emmett pulled a face, "Real shame."

"Emmett!" Esme shushed her son.

Edward walked over to Eve.
"I'm sorry for the damage." He said to her as he placed his hand on her shoulder.

"Please," she said to him as she shrugged his hand off. "I don't need an apology… I need to get away…"

Bella went over to Evelyn, she wanted her to stay so she could explain things immediately.
"Please stay, let's just go inside. We can talk about this."

"Bella, if she wants to go she can go." Jasper appeared behind Bella, his gaze still fixated on Evelyn.

"Don't you want her to know more about you? Don't you want her to know that you are all safe?" She replied to him.

He sighed deeply and turned his head. "We're not safe, how many times do we have to proof that to you?!"

Edward growled from behind his mate and he wrapped his arm protectively around her waist.

"Okay, fine. If it means that much to you we will talk here." Evelyn crossed her arms. "Its not like we are able to leave anyway."

A look of hurt crossed Jasper's face.
