It's a little after 4am when Georgie groans and rolls onto her side. She buries her head in the crook of Elvis' neck as Poppy starts to whimper. Sighing, Elvis leans down and kisses the top of Georgie's head.
'Surely she can't possibly be hungry again.' Georgie mumbles causing Elvis to smile. He takes a deep breath before glancing over at the co-sleeper where he can just about see Poppy wriggling around.
'I'll see to her. She probably just wants a cuddle; try get some more sleep, Georgie.' He says softly. He slowly gets his way out of bed and makes his way around to the other side.
'What's going on, sweetheart? Come see dada.' Elvis says. Leaning down, he lifts the little girl into his arms and cradles her against his chest as she almost instantly begins to settle down.
'That's my girl.' Elvis whispers. He carries Poppy through to the nursery and sits down in the rocking chair with her in his arms. He kisses the top of Poppy's head as he begins to rock slightly.
'Oh Poppy, what did we even do without you… I remember we were so scared when we found out we were expecting you. I didn't know if I'd be a good dad but the one thing I knew for certain was that your mummy would be absolutely amazing and I was right, wasn't I? Your mummy is quite possibly one of the bravest people I have ever met and I want you to grow up knowing just how strong and how brave she is.' Elvis says running his finger down Poppy's cheek. Resting his head against the back of the chair, he sighs and closes his eyes whilst continuing to rock until he's sure that Poppy is asleep again before making his way back to the bedroom.
'She okay?' Georgie mumbles as Elvis places Poppy back in her co-sleeper.
'She's fine… Fast asleep again.' He replies smiling. He climbs back into bed beside her and she instantly rolls into his arms.
'I think we need to give her a dummy or something…' Georgie says resting her head on his chest.
'Why don't you try pumping some milk and I can maybe do some of the night feeds?' He suggests.
'I don't know. We'll see.' She replies sleepily.
'Try get some sleep, Georgie.' He says softly as he tightens his arms around her. She mumbles something sleepily before her breathing evens out and she settles into a sleep whilst Elvis watches both Georgie and Poppy sleeping peacefully. It's definitely been a rough night but knowing that later Laura will be meeting her baby sister for the first time makes it all just a bit better.
'Babe… Georgie.' Elvis says softly as he uses one hand to keep Poppy cradled against his chest while resting the other on Georgie's hip.
'Mmm… Georgie's tired, let her sleep.' Georgie mumbles causing him to smile.
'I really wish I could but unfortunately I can't provide our daughter with the milk she needs.' Elvis says smiling.
'Do you think it's possible to die from tiredness?' She asks rolling onto her side and putting her arms out for the baby.
'Once you feed her you can go back to sleep for a bit and then I'll bring you breakfast.' He says.
'What time is it?' She asks adjusting her clothes so that Poppy can latch on and begin to nurse.
'A little after eight.' He replies.
'Really? I didn't think it was possible to feel this tired and this happy at the same time.' Georgie admits glancing down at Poppy and running her finger down the newborn's cheek.
'Mmm… She's pretty perfect, isn't she? You done good, babe.' He says. They sit silence for a few moments until a knock at the front door causing them both to glance up.
'Who's that at this time?' Elvis asks as Georgie yawns. Leaning down, he kisses the top of her head before making his way out of the bedroom as Georgie continues to stare down at Poppy.
'Mummy's tired, Pops. Tired and her boobs really fucking hurt.' She says quietly as the little girl continues to nurse happily. Within five minutes of leaving the room, Elvis has returned carrying a large white box and a pair of scissors.
'Delivery.' He says placing the box at the side of the bed. He carefully breaks the tape and opens the box to reveal a large clear bubble balloon filled with light pink feathers with the words 'welcome baby Poppy' printed across the front. Attached to the balloon is a tail of pink and white stars causing Georgie to smile.
'Oh my goodness… It's beautiful. Who's that from?' She asks and Elvis shrugs his shoulders as he bends down and picks a white envelope from the box.
'Elvis, Georgie and Laura,
Congratulations on the arrival of beautiful baby Poppy! She's absolutely perfect and you guys are going to be the most amazing parents. Congratulations to Laura on becoming a big sister, we're sure Poppy will absolutely adore you! We can't wait to meet the littlest member of two section!
Charles, Molly and Sam x'
'Oh wow… How sweet.' Georgie says, tears filling her eyes causing Elvis to smile. He sits down on the edge of the bed and they both stare up at the balloon.
'I might lock her in a cupboard if she decides she wants to join the army.' Georgie admits resting her hand on Poppy's back.
'Mmm… You can't stop her when we both served.' Elvis says and Georgie shakes her head.
'Exactly, I know what it's like out there; she's too innocent and precious for that life.' She replies.
