Summary: Centuries meant nothing; in the face of the truth, he still felt like a child.

He approached the bed Midnight was perched on, and she met his gaze as she asked curiously, "Where did this come from?" At first confused, his gaze found the little black stone peeking out from behind folded fingers. She almost looked guilty for finding it.
It had been centuries since Pitch had felt anything like embarrassment.
Cursing his forgetfulness, he stepped forward as she clutched the stone. He had completely forgotten about it, and now she held the evidence of his weakness. Not the object itself, no—he was a bit proud of his accomplishment, however trivial it may be. But its location was rather incriminating. It was proof that he had been around while she was off visiting her family. It sat on her nightstand because he had lingered here, fiddling with sand and shadows like an impatient boy.
Although he had denied it for several nights, his immediate response to her crossing the threshold shed light on the truth: He had missed her.
