The day Hisao joined the academy Sakura cried. She made it through the days before hand perfectly fine, after all for the past two months she had juggled two infants, a five year old, a husband, a hospital staff and of course the elders. A small part of her had even been looking forward to his going to the academy, it would mean that she could get some quiet time in while the twins were down for their nap. Hisao had kindly informed her a number of months ago that he was much too old for naps at age five, Hiashi had agreed with him, and thus any extra chance to grab some sleep was swiftly lost.

So when the day came for Hiashi and her to take Hisao to the academy doors, they had left the twins, Aki and Haru, in the care of Kiko and had made their way through the streets of Konoha. She had held his hand as he talked about what they would learn that year; he had already read through his school books twice something Hiashi attributed strictly to Sakura. Every once in a while Hiashi would make a comment, Sakura however just listened. As they reached the academy grounds Hiashi adopted his typical stoic appearance Sakura bent down and hugged him tight, knowing that in a few years he wouldn't want her hugging him in front of anyone. Giving one last squeeze she let him go and watched as he ran in through the doors.

On the way home they stopped for brunch and discussed the kids; how proud they were of Hisao and how well he had done in his pre-training, how big the twins were getting and Hiashi's upcoming mission later that week. She assured him that she would be fine and was perfectly capable of handling the clan and their children. He left a few hours later and Sakura set to work, she cleaned the bedrooms of their wing, not trusting anyone but close friends into the rooms in their wing. After that she took the twins over from Kiko and fed them and changed them before taking the out into the garden for some fresh air. Putting them into their bouncy seats she bounced them while she worked on the bit of paper work she had from the hospital. When the afternoon came she once again fed the twins and laid them down for their nap before going and doing laundry. When the clock stuck three, Sakura once again handed care of the twins over to Kiko and went to get Hisao from the academy.

She waited with the other parents talking lightly with them until the children streamed out of the school. Smiling she waited for Hisao, he was among the last to walk out, he was with a group of boys smiling and laughing. Sakura's smile grew until he fully turned towards her, his left eye was bruised and swollen, she felt her stomach drop before Hisao enveloped her in a hug. Forcing a smile on to her face she knelt next to him "What happened to your eye?"

Hisao grinned full on "Practice spars to see where we're at, I took first, but the last guy I went up against got in a lucky hit!"

Sakura nodded before turning to examine the eye, calling up chakra to her hand she placed it over his eye and allowed it to heal the bruise. Usually she wouldn't have bothered but something had stirred in her seeing that bruise on her son's face. Still smiling she asked about his day as she took his hand and began the walk home. Re talked enthusiastically about his day, that he knew all the questions the teacher asked, but didn't answer them all because he wanted to give other people a chance. He talked about the kids he had met, and of course the kid he had gotten along best with had been the one to give him the black eye.

The elders were waiting at the opening of the compound when they got back. Sakura watched them carefully while Hisao answered all their questions about his first day. After the tenth question she put a stop to it and led him back to their wing of the house. After that the night went on as usual with the addition of homework. As Sakura laid Hisao down to sleep she kissed him goodnight and retired to her own room.

That night Sakura cries; she cries for the loss of what would have been a normal childhood had he been born a civilian, she cries for the loss she knows he'll experience as a shinobi, she cries for the friends he would lose, and the times he would come back to her injured. She doesn't even allow herself to contemplate the idea of him not coming home. That night she allows herself to cry for Hisao before sending her fears to the back of her mind. The next morning she wakes up, makes breakfast, walks Hisao to class and hugs him extra tight before letting him run through the doors of the academy.
