AN: Some of you may have noticed that this fic is a littler darker than my usual. I'm both hesitant and excited about it. Just keep in mind that this one isn't comedic so much as dark and twisty with comedic moments.
Emma carefully treaded into her house. She turned on the alarm, checked the house cameras and moved quietly into her bedroom. She stripped, making her way into her bathroom and turned on the shower.
She felt the bile rising in her throat and it wasn't just the fact that she'd sucked Hook off that night and let him attempt to eat her out. No, it wasn't the fact that she'd gone so far as to let him cum on her face like she was in some cheap, trashy porno. It was the fact that her entire world was crashing down and she didn't know how to put it back together. She quickly made her way over to the toilet and let everything go.
Emma eventually picked herself up, grabbed her toothbrush, put some toothpaste on it and crawled into the shower. She sat on the tile, toothbrush in her mouth, foam leaking out the corners of her mouth, and let the waterfall drain onto her body.
The door to the bathroom opened and eventually the shower door slid just enough for Regina's form to come into view.
Emma fetaled up and turned from her. She began brushing her teeth with vigor and refused to let the brunette see her face. She fought the brunette's hands, but Regina refused to back down.
Their eyes met.
Regina saw inside the depths of her hit woman's soul. When it was too much to bear, she looked elsewhere. She saw the foam running down Emma's mouth, her smeared make-up, and yes, she saw the remnants of sperm in her hair. She took the toothbrush out of her mouth and set it outside the shower stall.
Then she moved carefully back to her protector. She took a washrag and a dollop of body wash and sympathetically, attentively washed every inch of skin on the blonde's body. She then took the shampoo and with the same kind, gentle hands, and washed her hair, taking extra time and attention on the sticky parts. She didn't let the vomit or harsh words come out of her; she'd already heard Emma hack up the contents of her stomach, she wasn't going to join her.
She moved out of the shower and started the tub. She filled it with bath salts and bubbles and oils. She lit the candles that surrounded the tub and turned off the lights. She grabbed a hairbrush and hair tie then opened the shower stall once more, turning the water off. She silently gestured for the blonde to move to the tub. She got in first and looked expectantly at the dripping, shaking blonde.
Emma didn't know how to react to this. She assumed that Regina was gonna hit her like she always did, instead, she washed her and drew her a bath—and apparently was planning to brush her hair.
She stared at the brunette a bit longer before slowly, cautiously getting into the tub and settling in front of her.
Regina wrapped her arms tight around Emma's middle. She needed to know everything, but only one thing couldn't wait anymore, "Did you want him?"
"No." Emma whispered, a shaky breath.
"Was it consensual?"
"Yes."
"Was it to protect Henry and me?"
"Yes."
"Did you actually—?"
"No. He didn't have a condom. No glove, no love."
Regina stared at the side of Emma's face, "Don't ever do it again. Even if it is for protection."
Emma tried to turn to her, but Regina merely kissed her, telling her that the discussion was over.
Regina spent time on her lover's hair. She worked each tangled knot out and pulled it back into a careful bun. She then pulled Emma back against her once more and they stayed there until the water was cold and they'd pruned.
They fell asleep, but only for a few hours.
When they woke up, Emma tried to get out of bed like it was any other day Regina was cooped up next to her.
"So… You're not going to tell me anything?"
Emma turned and looked at her, "I'm going to spend some time with Graham."

Emma turned the alarm off and moved to Henry's room. The boy was still sleeping in his bed. Graham's mattress lined Henry's bed; he stirred at her intrusion but appeared to go back to sleep. Emma moved in close to wake the man, but instead she received a gun to her face.
Graham stared at the blonde, finally waking himself up enough to realize it was her and not another guy sent after Henry by Liam or whoever Liam was working for. "Jesus, Emma!" He sighed as he rolled back over and put the gun in its holster under Henry's bed.
Emma smirked, "Good guy." She whispered before she stood up, "Come on."
"What about Henry?"
"Regina's going to get him." She said simply before walking out of the bedroom.
Graham followed the blonde to find Regina walking out of Emma's bedroom. He knit his brows as he watched her pull her sweater higher on her neck with worry etched into her brow.
"What's going on?" He asked after Emma shut the door to her study.
"I just want to show you how everything works. I want to show you my will and testament and I want you to know how Regina works."
Graham gave a slight, disbelieving shake of his head. He said the only words that seemed to run through his mind. "Where are you going?"
"Six feet under."

Emma and Graham were in the study for a good three hours. And when they came into the main part of the house, Graham looked as if he'd seen a ghost. Emma merely walked over to Henry, plucked him from his booster seat as he sat at the kitchen table coloring and kissed his cheek.
She proceeded to spend the rest of the day with him, playing with him, watching a movie with him, reading to him.
And she didn't go out that night.
It wasn't until Henry went down for the night did Regina decide that she needed answers. She turned to the blonde woman after shutting the door behind her, "Bedroom."
Emma had an unmasked twinkle in her eye as she nodded and made her way to the bedroom. And as soon as their door shut, Emma was on Regina like stink on cheese.
Regina grabbed the now loose and messy bun at the back of the blonde's head and pulled Emma's lips from her neck, "Emma."
Emma stared at the brunette.
"What the hell are you doing? Do you really think you can just have sex with me and not tell me what's had you so…" She motioned with her hands, but what she was trying to get out of her mouth she wasn't sure, "since last night?"
Emma leaned in and kissed Regina's lips softly, "I'd rather not." She whispered. "I'd rather make love to you."
Regina rolled her eyes, "Since when have you ever said those words to describe what we do in bed?" She pushed from the blonde, "Emma, what's going on?" She sat on the bed and crossed her arms and ankles, not letting Emma out of this one.
They'd played this game in the past; something bothered Emma but she said nothing. Sometimes, Regina would get her to tell her, most times, Emma would get her way. This was not going to be one of those times.
Emma turned for the door, "I'll just be in my study—"
"I'll just follow you. You might as well give it up and tell me what's got you so on edge." The superiority in Regina's voice was not lost on the blonde.
Emma turned back to the other woman. She debated in her head as she looked at the woman before her. She debated on telling her everything or just the essentials. She debated even on telling her that she was in love with her.
She was a fighter. All her life her instinct had been to stick it out. She killed people for a living for Christ's sake. But every time the words bubbled up in her throat, she'd swallow them back down and make an excuse to leave or just leave without warning. So, she actually surprised herself when she started talking.
"Do you remember the day your Pops assigned me to you?" She asked softly.
Regina had given up on Emma by the time she started talking, and when she asked that question, she didn't know what else to do but answer. "I do. Your hair was brown and it was a little too short to pull back so it was just hanging there around your face. And you had this shirt with holes on the seams of the sleeves, that denim jacket—God, I thought the denim was bad, who knew you'd graduate to leather." She looked down and smiled at the memory, "You looked at my father and back at me and told him that you would sooner die than let me get a scratch…"
Emma had walked over to the bed and sat on the edge, not facing Regina. She brought her feet up to the sideboard of the bed and leaned forward on her elbows. "Yeah… That was the first time I understood what love was all about."
"What?"
"Yeah." Emma wiped her face, knowing Regina wanted to ask 'Love?' "I looked at you and I… Everything faded away for a minute, everything slowed. I had either been sent an angel or an angel had already been watching over me and brought me to you. Either way; I knew I was going to spend the rest of my life with you." She bit her bottom lip as she thought about her next words, "And I wasn't wrong. I have spent my life with you. Whether you knew it or not, I've loved you. I've been in love with you." She looked at the ground as she chuckled, "And now… Now that I finally have the nuts to tell you, I'm dying."
"Dying? What—How could you possibly know that? You haven't even been to the doctors recently and they would have told me—!"
"Danny's alive." Emma got off the bed and stared the woman in the eyes.
Regina shook her head as she scooted to the edge of the bed, "But that's not possible."
"He's alive. Hook's been his puppet the whole time. Liam too. That's who 'E' is. 'E' stands for Emma. Can you think of anyone that's impersonated me before?... I'm his target just like I was last time." Emma stared into Regina' eyes, "He's alive and he wants Henry. Probably wants you too. And he wants me dead. He wants to do it himself, that I have no doubt."
"And just what makes you think that he'll succeed?"
"He's smarter than me. I thought he was dead. He'd wiped himself completely away. He wasn't coming back to hurt you. And now… I don't know when and I don't know where, but I do know that he wants me dead." Emma had her hands on her hips.
"So you just spent the day playing Mommy with my son, and, what, tomorrow you're going to go out guns blazing and get yourself killed?"
"NO! I'm going to go out tomorrow and get answers from Hook and possibly get myself killed! I'm going to protect you! I'm doing my damn job! My job is to protect you!" Emma yelled at the brunette.
Regina stood up and stared at the blonde. She stalked over to her and slapped her.
Never before had she done this, but Emma slapped back this time.
"How dare you slap me." Regina slapped again and received another slap. "Don't you ever hit me again!"
"Like hell." Emma slapped Regina's face once more.
Regina wasted no time hitting back. And neither did Emma. And then it was Regina's turn once more.
Emma turned a bit in indecision before ultimately continuing their slap fight. Regina was ready for it and got the last slap in. "You always gotta get the last one in!" Emma growled. Just for that remark, she received another slap.
Emma's eyes were ablaze, Regina's were icy in their depths, but when they met once more, it was all passion. It was teeth and lips and nails and fingers. It was clothes-ripping. It was hair-mussing. It was nervous; confident. It was love.
They made it to the bed and, after topping the brunette, Emma grabbed Regina's wrists and pulled them above the woman's head as she stared down at her. She interlocked their fingers as she melted into the brunette for a searing kiss.
"Is this about what I said to you or that I'm doing my job?" Emma asked after letting go of Regina's hands and letting hers explore her boss's body that she knew so well. Regina tried to push Emma away, but Emma merely grinned and kept her where she was, "Look at me." She commanded softly as she let one hand trace the scar on Regina's hip and the other hold her up. Regina rolled her eyes away from the blonde, but eventually her eyes were caught up in emotional green. "I'm in love with you. I've always been in love with you and even after I die I'll still love you."
"That's not fair!" Regina choked on her words as she tried to push away from Emma once more. This time, Emma got off of the woman she'd been in love with for so long and laid to the side of her.
"I know."
"You have no right telling me you love me."
"I know."
"We've wasted so much time!" Regina fell into the blonde and held on for dear life. Emma didn't vocalize her surprise; Regina instead found questioning eyes, "I've loved you too." She said through teary eyes.
Emma swallowed the lump in her throat, "Well let's stop wasting time." She put her hand on Regina's cheek and kissed her softly.

They didn't go to sleep that night. They did stay wrapped up in each other though. Emma had her arms wrapped around the brunette and Regina seemed to be holding on for dear life.
The brunette mindlessly played connect the dots with Emma's freckles on her forearm and turned to look at the other woman. She waited for a kiss and held the blonde there when she did receive it.
Emma kissed her cheek after Regina finally did pull away. "I won't let anything happen to you. Not again." She whispered.
"I know." Regina turned once more to look into green orbs that seemed to have so much to say.
"I could have stopped him…"
"No you couldn't have. It was something between him and me." Regina whispered. "It wasn't your fault."
"Yes it was."
"Why do we always come back to that? Why do you think you could have stopped him?"
"You know why." Emma turned her head away from the brunette, refusing to look at her.
"Just because you were distracted with Ruby doesn't mean that you would have been able to stop it otherwise—"
"YES IT DOES!" Emma stared hard into Regina's eyes, "It does." She huffed again, "If I wasn't drowning my sorrows with Ruby, I would have picked up on how fucking crazy Danny is. I would have killed him before he got to you… Before he—"
"Raped me." Regina said like it was simple, "You can say it. That's what it was."
"That's not just what it was. He hurt you. He sliced you open. And for what? Because he wasn't ready for a child?! That's what he was yelling when I came into the…" Emma trailed off as she thought about what exactly she saw when she walked into her love's bedroom that night.
She'd caught wind that Danny was getting rough with her but when Emma confronted her on it, she said nothing. And she'd heard just how harsh Danny could be, but she didn't think that was entirely true. She'd thought he was a little off the mark, Regina though found him charming.
She heard the fear in Regina's cries that night. She saw the knife with Regina's blood on it.
She finally spoke, "I shouldn't have let him go. I should have killed him then and there. I just let him walk passed me."
"You called David and Jefferson. They put a bullet to his head. He shouldn't have survived."
"Shouldn't have being the operative words." Emma held tighter to the brunette.
Regina turned in Emma's arms, "I have no doubt that you'll protect me." She kissed the blonde, "I just…" A tear fell from her eye, "I have to wonder who's going to protect you… I can't lose you. Not now."
Emma's jaw clenched, "I'll do my best to not die."

Mary Margaret and David Nolan arrived while Emma was taking a shower.
"I'm just not sure what we're supposed to do, Boss…" David said as he paced the study floor.
"It's simple. You round up our best guys; you stroll into the Irish house and you take Killian. You beat the answers we need out of him and then you find Danny and kill the son of a bitch."
"Even if we were able to get enough guys tonight, we would hardly make it out of that bar with Jones in our hands…"
Regina stood and walked over to the man, "David. Do it."
"David. Don't listen to her." Emma made her presence known. "I've got this." She walked over to Regina, "You let them come over here? You can't do that. It makes it that much more obvious where you are. What if Danny somehow finds you before I get Hook to tell me where he is?"
"If you're here to protect Henry and me while David and some of the other Sicilians do as planned then it won't matter—"
"No." Emma spoke firmly, "No. He's got us. If we don't play by his rules then none of us will get out alive." She stepped impossibly closer to the boss of all bosses of organized crime, "Regina…" she whispered as she pulled the woman in by the neck, "I have to do this." She kissed Regina's forehead before turning to the other two, "If you guys want to stay, stay, if not I'm leaving and the alarm is getting turned on."
