Feel the Rush
Chapter 4
Deeks parked his car at the boatshed with Sam, Callen and Kensi in the car following behind. He knew the prisoner would be in the little room out the back and made his way there.
"Deeks, come on let us in on the secret" said Kensi.
"Guys will you come into the room with me? I don't want any hassles when examining him". Deeks asked.
"Sure" replied Callen. "Kensi, you wait out here watch the monitors".
"But I can go too, you know" Kensi protested.
"We can handle it Kens, it's okay" Sam tried to say without sounding condescending to Kensi, but he knew he wasn't succeeding.
"Fine" Kensi huffed.
Deeks grabbed the prisoner and held him up against the wall. He started looking all over him, desperately trying to find what he was looking for.
"Deeks, what are you looking for?" Callen was getting slightly annoyed by now.
Deeks pulled the prisoner's head down and looked behind his neck. He saw it. A very small tattoo with the image of 4 guns and 4 swords interlocked together surrounded by flames.
"Found it!" Deeks said triumphantly.
"Found what exactly?" Sam asked impatiently.
"Come here, look" Deeks waved the two agents over, pointing to the tattoo.
"A tattoo. Do you recognise it?" Callen asked, looking at the colourful image.
Deeks nodded in agreement, "I've seen it before. On someone I know"
"You gonna tell us? Or do we have to play a stupid guessing game?" Sam crossed his arms in front of him.
"I've seen it on my ex-partner at LAPD" replied Deeks.
"Ex- partner?" asked Callen. "What happened?"
Walking back out to where Kensi was listening and watching the monitors, Deeks started explaining.
"We were partners together for a couple of years about 6 years ago. Then Mick got transferred to the narcotics division for the South American Crime Department of LAPD, mainly because he spoke the language. He did well for himself too, I was happy enough to stay being a detective, but Mick wanted to go further and earned himself the honour of becoming Head of Narcotics Division within a year of being transferred there. I remember seeing Mick have that same tattoo, when we had to go undercover one time at a drug raid that was going down at the beach and we both ended up in the water in our clothes, chasing the bad dudes. We got back to base, showered and changed and that's when I saw it."
"Did you ask him about the tattoo Deeks?" asked Sam.
"Of course Sam. He said it was something he got when he got called up to do an undercover job. The strange part was he never told me what the undercover op was all about, I mean we always told each other if we had an individual case going on. A particular person, he never said who it was though, insisted he get the tattoo, so he did, much to do with not getting his cover blown if he didn't. I asked him why he didn't get rid of it after the job had finished, but he never answered me. Anyway on the video we saw at OSP, I saw the sergeant on screen have the same tattoo on the inside of his wrist. It's hard to see, but because the tatt is so distinctive I recognised it straight away".
"So you're thinking our prisoner is tied up with the sergeant in the video and your ex-partner is also involved somehow?" Kensi asked.
"Exactly. What do you think?" Deeks asked.
"Could be some truth to it. Your ex-partner could be helping the sergeant import the substances to Afghanistan and our prisoner maybe a part of a Nicaraguan drug cartel which is supplying the goods". Callen replied.
"That's what I'm thinking" agreed Deeks.
"What is 'Mick's full name Deeks?" asked Sam.
"Miguel Tanastro. We called him Mick because it was easier and it was a nickname".
Callen dialled Eric at OSP. "Eric, we need everything you can find on Miguel Tanastro from the Narcotics Division of the South American Crime Department of LAPD. I want, where he is, who he knows, background everything, okay? And I'm sending you a photo of a distinctive tattoo we found on our prisoner, Deeks saw the same tattoo on the sergeant in the video and Miguel Tanastro, see what you can find on that too"
"I'm on it Callen" answered Eric, furiously typing on his computer.
"You do Tanastro, I'll do the tattoo", Nell decided.
"Sure thing rock star!" laughed Eric.
"So what do we do now?" asked Kensi.
"We'll have to get this guy to a long-term holding facility first, I'll ask Hetty. Then we go back to OSP and wait to see what Eric and Nell can find", replied Callen. "Do you think anyone you know in LAPD is aware of this Deeks?"
"I'm not sure. I'll contact a few buddies of mine".
"You have buddies, at LAPD, Deeks", Kensi asked sarcastically. "Really?"
"Yes, I have buddies there Kensi. Not everyone at LAPD is a complete asshole to me!"
"I can't imagine why they would be an asshole to you Deeks"
"Wait, are you mocking me? I don't like it when you mock me Kensi! Wait!" but Kensi just turned and gave Deeks a huge smirk and continued walking to the car.
