The ship moved silently through the blue waves, giant storm clouds to the east. They were headed to the north, across the sea. The giant sea was circulaIr with a radius of more than a thousand nautical miles. The ship was headed all the way across, in a straight path north.
"Aghhhughh..." Abbey groaned. She had never been on a boat before, and she immediately got seasick. She was in what would have been Hulks room, and she wasn't aloud to come out. Dextrox had warned her to stay in the room because there might be a few people aboard the ship who didn't like having their strong leader replaced by his daughter.
*BANG* *BANG* *BANG*
"Its me, Dextrox." Abbey got out of bed and walked to the door. She turned the handle, expecting Dextrox, but she was greeted by Jack.
"What are you doing here? How did you fake Dextroxs voice?!" She asked, incredulous.
"Its not hard," Jack began, "to fake an elderly persons voice." Jack grinned at Abbeys scowling face.
"Get out of my room!" Abbey yelled, mad at Jack. "You're the one who made Hulk miss the boat!"
Jack looked genuinely hurt, and said, "he was only doing what fathers normally do when leaving for a three month journey."
"Ya righ- Three months!?" Abbey was shocked. Jack just resumed grinning evily. "Get out!"
Jack left the room, still smiling as he closed the door. Abbey slumped down on the bed, and sighed. She had never been away for three months, and she hadnt prepared for this. Well, she did prepare. She brought extra underwear.
*The Next Morning*
*Bang* *Bang* *Bang*
"Get lost Jack!" Abbey yelled at the door.
"...Its Dextrox, not Jack..."
"Sure, that's what he said last time!"
Dextrox opened the door, and Abbey looked up. She was still in bed, she hasn't gotten a good sleep. Too much rocking and feeling sick combined and gave her bad sleep.
"Abbey," Dextrox started, "if you're going to take part of this journey, you have to help with the chores."
Abbey groaned, and sat up from her bed. "Let me get ready," She said to a leaving Dextrox, "i'll be out in a minute."
(A/N Now if you're a younger brother, you know it takes more than a minute for girls to get changed.)
*-Thirty minutes later-*
Abbey walked up the stairs to the the main deck. It was a big climb, and the ship was much larger than a normal boat. This ship was especially made to hold an extra large dragon, Smaugom. He was in the lower deck closest to the hull. When they got out at their destination, Smaugom would fly out through a metal grating that could be slid away.
Abbey was walking past some rooms, and saw a door with a gold star-like shape on it. She pushed the already slightly open door, and saw Haley. Abbey pushed the door a bit more and saw Cale. Cale was in his brown, many pocketed jacket, and Haley was in her normal white dress with golden designs. Haley's wings were tucked close to her back, so as not to knock anything over, and then Abbey noticed something. Haley and Cale appeared to be talking, and then Abbey saw Haley holding Cales hand.
Abbey had a face of confusement, and sensed that there was something between the two, and then she sensed she shouldnt be there seeing it. She judged the time, and estimated about a five minute pass of time. She hurried up the stairs quietly, and arrived on the deck. She was greeted by Dextrox.
"Abbey, what took you so long?" He asked.
"Um... I had to get changed... And before that I had to pick out clothes..." She replied.
"Ahh, I understand..."
Abbey had a small scowl, then Dextrox gave her instructions.
"Abbey, i want you to take this bucket," he said, slightly kicking a bucket of an unrecognizable mush, "and give it to Smaugom below decks."
Abbey held back a small groan, and grabbed the buckets handle. It was much heavier than Abbey thought, and she slightly struggled to pick it up. She carried the bucket down a flight of stairs and once again passed the door with the golden star-like shape on it. She peeked inside, and saw Haley and Cale kissing. Embarressed, Abbey quickly ran from the slightly open doorand down another flight of stairs.
She peeked around and saw a door with the word "Jack" on it. Curious, she opened the door after setting her bucket of mush down. She stepped in, and was instantly surprised. There was nothing in the room. Either Jack had no stuff, or he had moved it all...
Abbey picked up the bucket, and turned a corner going down to the last deck. She opened a door, and stepped into a room that smelled weird. Abbey knew that Smaugom was notorious for not bathing, but this was ridiculous. She smelled smoke, not any kind of stink except the odor coming from the bucket. She looked into the bucket, and almost threw up. It was a black mush with all sorts of colors mixed in. She opened a second door, and stepped into the dragon stable. She saw Smaugom, and gave him his bucket of nasty mush. She quickly exited the room, the smoky smell and disgusting stink of the mush scared her away from ever going back to Smaugoms stable.
She closed the door, and then smelled. It was still smoky... She opened the door back up, and looked around. Smaugom was looking at her weirdly, and she went around him to the back of the stable. The smell of the smoke was thicker here, and she pushed over a bale of hay that Smaugom slept on. There was a small moving thing that was red... She moved closer, and jerked back when she felt the heat.
"FIRE!" Abbey yelled.
Abbey ran as fast as she could yelling "fire" all the way up to the deck. She saw Jack come out of his room, and she saw Haley and Cale come out of the infirmary. She ran up the stairs to the deck, and she was out of breath while trying to say "fire."
"What is it Abbey?" Dextrox said, coming out of a room connected to the deck.
When Abbey regained her breath, she said, "there's a fire in the stables!"
Dextroxs eyebrows raised, and he started yelling off commands to other people. He turned to Abbey and asked, "how big is the fire?"
Abbey replied to Dextrox with a slight tone of fear, "it was small, but it was right next to a pile of hay!"
"All hands that have water, follow me!" Dextrox yelled. Several villagers who had buckets followed him, the others were filling buckets of seawater with a rope and a bucket.
Abbey moved down the stairs with a bucket, only this time the bucket didn't contain nasty mush. She ran down the stairs, the only person in front of her was Dextrox. The crowd carrying buckets arrived at the dragon stable, and they opened both doors. They rushed in and one by one they threw their water onto the raging fire. Dextrox didnt have a bucket, but he didnt need one. He whispered some magic words, and thrust out his hands. Water shot out, and doused some of the fire. Abbey poured her bucket on the fire, and started sweating from the intense heat. The fire had almost gone out, and several villagers had returned with more water. Smaugom was staying still in the fire, his scales protecting him from the heat. The fire was out after the villagers poured the remaining water. Abbey saw Dextrox scolding Smaugom, and she walked out of the room and back towards the deck.
After everyone had left the stable, Smaugom layer down to rest. He grabbed a nearby thing that was bright orange and yellow, and snuggled up close to it. Little did the crew of the ship know that it was a Lava Pup that started the fire...
*-Meanwhile, back at the village-*
"How much longer?" Hulk asked, angrily. "Four days?! Fine, if thats all you can do..."
A scared elder left the room, and Hulk stood up and moved to the basement of his house. Anna was already in the basement, looking at a weirdly shaped cabinet. It was shaped like a grid, each hole holding a scroll.
"Did you familiarize yourself with the scrolls?" Hulk asked Anna.
" i still cant get over the fact that you have this," Anna said, "you said you had it when the old chief burnt down the library?"
"Yes," Hulk answered, "he was getting rid of it to make another army camp. I stole it, and its been here ever since."
Anna looked around at the bare basement that had really bad lighting. "You kept an artifact with really high value in your basement?"
Hulk hid a blush and said, "yes, this was the best place where the chief wouldn't find it."
Anna looked back at the shelf. "So explain this to me."
"Each grid represents a different event, the top being events in the past, and the bottom holes are events that havent happened yet. One scroll will be picked from each of the holes in each row. Several scrolls have already been chosen, and I have lined them up on the far right side of the grid."
"Which events happened?" Anna asked.
"The ones I thought were silly, the ones that say a barbarian will defeat the chief. Before that scroll though, there are ones that say, " found a group of barbarians in the woods," and, "magic spells and golden armor."
Anna gave a slight laugh, than resumed looking at the scrolls. "Which row are we on now?"
"This one here." Hulk said, motioning to a row that he could barely reach. The cabinet went from the bottom of the floor, to the top of the ceiling.
Anna grabbed one of the scrolls from that row, and started reading out loud. "The boat burns brightly in the night sky, as people are jumping off to save their lives..."
"Please, don't read that out loud. I don't want that to happen to my Abbey..."
"Neither do I, but we still have to read them to find out what danger she's in." Anna said, grabbing another scroll. She quickly read it and said, "at least its better than this one, this one says they get infected by a deadly disease." Anna grabbed more scrolls, and read them all. "Ooh ooh! This one says, burning, then the crew gets stranded on an island!"
"...Why do you take joy out of reading these..?"
"I don't," Anna replied, "but its sort of hard not too. This is like an adventure, and we get to find out how it ends!"
"What if it ends terribly? What if Abbey or Dextrox dies? What then?"
"Well... I don't have an answer. We just have to deal with what we're given. C'mon, let's stop reading these and go to bed. I don't want you to be depressed any more than you already are."
"OK..." Hulk said, and slowly walked up the stairs to the main floor. He blew out a candle as Anna passed him, and then he shut the door, not to return to that room again tonight. There was nothing he could do about Abbeys situation, she would have to deal with whatever event came up next.
Okay guys, fourth chapter!
I recently got a character suggestion from Bobdogblue, and i think i'll be able to implement him. If anybody has any characters they want in, either review or pm me with the idea of the character, name, age, and most importantly, looks. If you dont give looks, ill have to make the character myself.
I might be going for a week, sorry. I havent had much time to write, and this update was pushed. I hope you enjoy it. Its not as long as my other chapters, but i promise the next will be. Also, the next chapter has the character suggested to me by Bobdogblue :). Keep your patience in check, the next chapter will be a while...
Clash on!
