Jack heard North yell in surprise from his room, his eyes widening before he raced as fast as he could towards the main room. The crystal had risen and was glowing, and he was surprised to see Tooth, Bunnymund and Sandy standing around.
"What's going on?" he asked, and shadows flickered in an amused manner before they formed letters.
"S," Tooth read, and another letter flashed by, and another, until the word SALVATION was gathered around the crystal. Jack frowned while the others looked aghast.
"A Salvation? What is his problem…scratch that, what is the wretch's problem? No spirit needs a salvation without doing something terrible!" Bunnymund looked like he had not only become thunderous, he might soon be persuaded to a little lightning. Tooth fluttered her hands, and Jack held his hands up.
"Can someone explain?" he asked. Four pairs of eyes focused on him and North sighed.
" A Salvation is an order to rescue a spirit from the path of wrong, or from insanity, rescue a spirit who has fallen to another's influence or a spirit who needs to become a Guardian. The last has actually never been used, but it is written down from when the Rules, as such, were being explained."
Jack frowned before the crystal started to send a hologram up. A silence fell over the room.
Two pairs of hands held each other, and the eyes of the two spirits shown looked away from each other. Subtle differences in moonlight showed that different colours ran through their identical clothing and North wore an expression similar to Bunnymund's.
"For the love of Manny, why them?"
Jack noticed that Bunnymund wore an expression similar to his own, neither recognising the apparent twin spirits. The fact that a spirit could be a twin was a rare one, so surely they would be recognisable…
North cleared his throat. "I realise you two do not know these girls… but these are Sam and Haine Shadesprite, the Halloween spirits."
Jack felt cold shock go down his back. These …these girls were the evil, grudging Halloween spirits who made his life hell once a day every year? These girls sent bats after him? They…well, they could go save themselves. He would not be doing that for them, for sure.
….
Pitch looked at Haine and Sam as they stood in the French woods, one eye closed each as they explained to him what they would be doing.
"We feel we deserve a small holiday." Sam finished. Haine nodded, and Pitch sighed, handing each a black ribbon.
"Pull this apart if you need me." They took them with identical expressions of curiosity, turning to each other before shrugging and walking up into the air.
"We will, if we need you." Haine called, before Sam strode ahead of her, so she had to rush after her sister to keep up.
Pitch watched them go before disappearing into the shadows. Sam turned.
"We can manage, sister." Her expression was troubled and Haine knew that she too was questioning what they were doing. Haine shrugged, a hand wrapping around Sam's arm as they walked as if along a pavement. Of course, that required a little magic, but nothing they couldn't spare.
The believer had shaken them both, and as such, they had decided to head to Canada for a month or two. The abandoned islands were perfect for magic practice and such, while being far from any children. The children were for the Guardians to deal with, not the twins. They both thought this, of course; it was a rare time when their thoughts did not run on nearby tracks if not the same.
Sam sighed, pushing a stray hair from her eyes as they continued to walk, now above the coast of France. It would take a great deal of walking to get to the other coast, and more to reach the island. The trip had been taken before, always when something bad had happened. They could feel their magic increased by the amount of faith that had been placed in them by the young boy. It wasn't something they had discussed much with each other, but as they did have linked magic, they could feel it. It made for an awkward feeling, like a child might have just before a growth spurt.
