Chapter 3: the reason why.
I stood in the field of grass looking over at the sapphire blue lake sparkling, thinking about how happy I feel being left alone, well, except for little angel. I've been out here for hours maybe I should head home I'm pretty sure little angel is starting to get worried. I stood up to go home when I saw little angel scampering to me I smiled" little angel what's the matter?" then I heard something that made my blood run cold "England cat what the bloody hell do you think you-" I look up to see my worst nightmare, my brother, Arthur Kirkland. "K-Kaitlyn?" "Arthur?" he looked at me with tears in his eyes "is it really you?" he asked as he took a step forward, and in turn I took a step back and said "stay away from me" he looked hurt, but I could care less "Kaitlyn I-" "it's Serenia to you England!" I barked at him he sighed and spoke again "Serenia, what I said was the alcohol talking, I didn't mean a single word I said please forgive me" "how can I forgive you after what you AND Allistor said!? Good day, England" he dropped to his knees. I turned and started walking away until I heard him whisper "it's happening all over again" he started crying head hanging low 'what?' he continued to whisper "I lost another sibling but, this time it's my only sister the one sibling I never wanted to lose you in the first place." 'He never wanted to lose me?' "It's all my fault, when we had you we couldn't take care of here because we had barely enough money to feed ourselves, that's why we had to leave you there in hope Austria would help you" 'that's why they did it it's not because they wouldn't take care of me, it's because they COULDN'T take care of me.' Then I remembered what he went through with losing his colonies and losing America to independence. I walked to Arthur and sat on my knees and started to cry "Serenia, please forgive me" he cried even harder I wrapped my arms around him and hugged him he stiffened "S-Serenia?" he asked I looked up at him to see his face in shock "you idiot, it's Kaitlyn or better yet, little sister" I laughed as tears streamed down my face he smiled and laughed hugging me tightly "so does this mean you forgive me?" I looked at him and said "hm. Now let's see, I'm hugging you I said you can call me Kaitlyn and I said I'm your sister. Now what do you think?" we started laughing then I heard little angel meow. We both look at her to see her and who I assume to be Arthur's nuzzling each other, "she's very smart" "I know I raised her" then I see a cat that resembled Alfred come next to them and nuzzle little angel. "Arthur, did you bring other people?" he looked at me as he wiped away my tears away. "Well, yes everyone gave me and Allistor a good thumping after we read your letter, so we have been looking for you for 20 years everywhere. But, how did you know?" I smiled and pointed to the cat that looked like Alfred. Then we heard a voice yell "yo, America cat what's up with you-"I saw Alfred run up next to his cat only to stop and look at me. Arthur lets me go as we stand up and Alfred runs up and gives me a bone crushing hug spinning me around. "KAITLYN! I missed you soooooo much!" he cried and squeezed the air out of me. "America you bloody git put her down! She can't breathe!" Arthur yelled. Alfred let me go and I took deep breaths "aiyah! Why are you naughty cats running from us?" I shot my head right up to see all the countries scolding the cats, well except for Feli I ran up and glomped Feli "ahh! Please I surrender! White flag see?!" he cried "poi arrendersi ai miei abbracci, è stupido italiano! (Translation: then surrender to my hugs, you silly Italian!) He stopped crying and looked at me; he sat up and squeezed me even harder than Alfred "Kaitlyn! Mi sei mancato così tanto! Io non riuscivo a smettere di piangere mentre eri via! Si prega di non lasciarmi sola volta!(translation: Kaitlyn ! i missed you So much! I couldn't stop crying while you were gone! Please don't leave me alone again!) I wriggled out of his grasp and say to him in Italian "Io non vado da nessuna parte Feli Avevo solo bisogno di schiarirmi le idee, sto tornando va bene?" (Translation: I'm not going anywhere Feli I just needed to clear my head, I'm coming back okay?) He smiled and spun me around in the air "veeeee~!" after 20 minutes of greeting my old friends and brothers, I invite them to my house.2 hours later. Everyone went home and just as Kiku-san was just about to leave he turned to face me "Kaitren-chan, would you rike to come with me to visit my friend, Greece and rook at his country?" Kiku asked "I would love to!" I giggled 'finally I get to meet Greece!' 2 weeks later. Me and Kiku-san arrived at Greece and are looking for him I'm wearing a white t-shirt that clings to me, black skin tight jeans and deep blue sneakers walking around Athens. "Kaitren-chan?" I look at Kiku-san "yes? "You seem to be attracting arot of attention" I look around and see a lot of men staring at me and women glaring. I look back at Kiku-san "well at lest you have manners, they only want one thing" we keep walking and end up at a ruin site and see a man digging. "Greece-san, we have arrived" Kiku-san said the man turned around and, I don't know why but I hide behind Kiku-san "Kaitren-chan what is the matter?" "I'm shy around new people and HE is new to me" I replied "hey, japan who are you talking to?" the man known as Greece asked in a relaxed tone "this is my friend I had brought with me, there is no reason to be afraid" I took a deep breath and walked out from behind Kiku-san and walked in front of Greece he stuck out his hand and said "Γεια σας, είμαι Ελλάδα ό, τι είναι το όνομά σου?"(Translation: hello, I am Greece, what is your name?) Kiku-san walked next to me and flipped out a little "uh, Greece-san, I don't think Kaitren-chan knows how to speak Greek" I shook his hand and said" Είναι μια ευχαρίστηση να σας γνωρίσουμε, είμαι Serenia, η χώρα των λουλουδιών. Αλλά μπορείτε να καλέσετε Kaitlyn, αν το επιθυμείτε. (Translation: it's a pleasure to meet you, Greece. I am Serenia, the country of flowers. But you may call me Kaitlyn if you wish to) I let go of his hand and looked at Kiku-san he looked very shocked "k-kaitren-chan, since when were you abre to speak another ranguage?" he asked I put a finger under my chin. Then I made it look like I remembered something "I learnt a multitude of language while I was working back in Serenia for 20 years" I replied smiling "Χμμ, έξυπνη και όμορφη"(Translation: hmm, smart and beautiful) I blushed at what he had said "what? What did he say?" Kiku-san asked "never mind" I replied. Greece showed us what he was doing he was digging up the old Olympic stadium or what's left of it. Then he showed us an old stone bench, "I can sleep here, look you can sleep on the other one if you want" he said as he sat on it "can't wearing a white shirt" I said "isn't it disrespectfur to your mother?" Kiku-san said "Kiku-san" "yes?" I pointed to the now sleeping Greek man "we lost him". 2 hours later. The three of us are sitting on the grass while Greece is talking about cats "hey, Kaitlyn" Greece asked "yes?" "If you could be an animal what would you be?" "That was a bit random but, a wolf" "why?" "Wolves are mysterious and majestic creatures, no one really knows about the unless you can talk to them" "wouldn't it be cool to be able to talk to them?" "Oh I can, I can talk to them and every animal on the planet" he looked at me and put a caramel coloured cat on my lap "here ask this cat what's wrong, he won't eat any food" "okay?" I looked at the cat and asked him "excuse me but, why won't you eat any food my friend gives you?" the cat replied "I have a thorn in my throat so when I eat it hurts" "aww poor baby!" I say as I grab a pair of tweezers from my bag "ok now keep your mouth open, can you do that?" he nodded I put the tweezers down his throat and pull out the thorn. "There we go, better?" the cat meowed happily I pulled out a can of sardines from my bag (me: you like sardines? Kaitlyn: no it was going to be for japan but he didn't know. Me: oh okay ^_^) and opened it then placed it on the ground, he started eating it right way. "Very impressive" Greece said relaxed. "Hey, I wanted you to feel at home so guess what. Give up? I learnt some fancy Japanese words" Kiku-san looked at him and said "that's very impressive would you terr some?" Greece said "um, sushi paki, the dragon balls z and nani" then Kiku-san asked "is there anything erse?" "Sure, me rikey you very much but me rikey the cats moru" I shook my head and said "that's not how you say it its Watashi wa anata ga totemo sukidesuga, watashi wa neko Ni motto suki" (Translation: I like you very much but I like cats more.) I looked at Kiku-san and he looked shocked. 1 hour later. we're walking around Athens's streets and the men gawking at me again "you have a very beautiful country, Greece" he looked at me and smiled saying "thank you, and please call me Hercules" I nodded then, trouble came Turkey showed up "japy, what up stud? I heard you was coming so I came to soak in your mojo" "harro, " then Hercules and Turkey's eyes met "oh boke! What the holy hell are you doing here feta breath!?" he said angrily walking to Hercules then grabbing him by the front of his shirt "listen jerk-ules you better not be pulling that naked Spartan bull shit on my buddy!" then Kiku-san tried to make it stop "big curio!" "Hands off Turkey this shirt was expensive, japan and Kaitlyn were seeing my sites" then Turkey made a confused look "who the hell is Kaitlyn, Bok herif? (Translation: you piece of shit) I separated them both and looked at Turkey "I'm Kaitlyn" he looked at me up and down and, said thinking I don't understand "Şimdi ne onun gibi Bok bir parça ile yapmak gibi güzel bir kız?" (Translation: now what's a fine girl like you doing with a piece of shit like him?) I replied back" Eğer ben doğru, dediğini anlayabiliyorum farkında mısın? Bok bu parça arkadaşım olur. Oh, ve kayıt için bir dilde insanlar kaba isimleri bilmiyorum sonuç onları aptal düştü hale aramak için hoş değil." (Translation: you do realise I can understand what you're saying, right? that piece of shit happens to be my friend. oh, and for the record it's not nice to call people rude names in a language they don't know in result making them fell stupid.) He looked shocked "you speak Turkish?" "Yes, now if you want, would you like to join us site seeing?" "Fine only because you and japy are here." 20 minutes later. We were walking again but, this time Turkey was glaring at Hercules then Kiku-san said "hey rook at this" we stopped 'here it comes' he showed them the pull of your thumb trick and as expected they freaked out I burst into laughter "why are you laughing he just broke his thumb off!" Turkey yelled "you idiot, it's a trick!" I yelled back he looked stunned. I started walking when Hercules grabbed my hand "Turkey you walk around with Japan, while I get to know Kaitlyn more and show her my sites" he said then we started walking down a different street from Kiku-san and Turkey. "Hey, would you like to see the hall of hero's and gods?" he asked me "I would love to!" I giggled "so what is your country like?" "It's different from yours I can say that" "how much different?" we came across a grass hill so we sat down on it "well, we have Victorian style houses, we don't have a hall of hero's and we have myths about different people but not gods or goddesses" "really, hm. Hey I just thought of something, I've never seen your country participate in the Olympics why is that?" 'Crap! Quick Kaitlyn think what do you remember about your country? *sigh* only one option' "what is an 'Olympics'?" he looked shocked "you've never heard of the Olympics?" I lied and shook my head "no, sorry" "would you like to know about the Olympics?" I nodded. And for the next 2 hours he explained what the Olympics were and how to take part in them. "Hey, I know how about you tell me something your country does that's traditional and mythological stories" "um, sure. Well for traditional on the first of September we celebrate the day Serenia was founded by Sir Barnaby clay worth, it was said on his voyage of traveling, a beautiful maiden came to him in a dream telling him he was close to a new land. Believing his dream he travelled even further after many days and nights he finally found a small island in the shape of a water lily, and the day he found it was the first day of spring so he was going to name it flora but as he explored the land more he discovered that the land was more heavenly than anyone could have ever imagined so that's how Serenia got its name." "But what about you how were you found?" "I still don't know" "well do you have any myths you would like to share?" "A few" "well, how about you tell me your favourite one" "hm. Oh! My favourite one is about a spirit; her name was granda met tren matra meaning 'the spirit of light' and an infant child; her name was Serena metra wolfina xio meaning 'the child who lives' the legend goes that one night a mother could not take care of her child for she was chased by the villagers for being a witch, the mother ran in fear for the villagers wanted to kill her and her child believing that the child possessed the same abilities as the mother. The mother found a nearby river bank she heard the villagers coming, "please deliver us" she prayed then a shining light appeared before her there she saw the spirit of light, "I have come to save, I have come to deliver" she said the mother held out her child and asked "please save my child! Please deliver her!" the spirit took the child and cast a spell on her "she shall be part of the land, the land shall be her heart, her soul, her world. Her family will be small but compassionate, where she shall be loved" the spirit flew away with the child hearing the final cry of the mother "deliver her!" the mother died as the villagers shot her. The spirit flew to a field of flowers were she heard some people speaking she recognised them as foreigners and she flew down to a small patch of flowers there she made a flower of cerulean blue and a yellow centre, she placed the infant child in the flower then closed it up. She hid herself in the trees and watched as a boy of 12 found the pod he approached the pod and at his touch the pod bloomed open to revile the child, the boy picked up the child and looked at her closely when the child opened her eyes she laughed a laugh that sounded so pure and so sweet it would sooth any ravenous beast the boy smiled and took the child away. The spirit followed them and came to a ship where the boy showed the captain, soon there were a group of three other boys ages 7,8 and 9 they looked at the child and all felt such joy the spirit smiled knowing the child would have a family who would love her forever. The end" I smiled "wow, that was a very sweet story, but who told you it" "well, the people of Serenia told me I wasn't around at the time to see if the story was true or not" "I heard from japan that you have brothers, who are they?" "Um, England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Sealand, New Zealand and Australia" "so you're big brothers are England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales, and your little brothers are Australia, New Zealand and Sealand." "Well, not really I'm only a big sister to Sealand Australia and New Zealand are my big brothers" "but, how does that work?" "Well, it's complicated but to put it as simple as possible apparently when my brothers left me on a grass field I was asleep and since I was asleep I had the ability to stay like that so in other words my country had no population until a while after Australia and new Zealand were populated so when I woke up I was classed as their little sister" he tilted his head "that sounds very cool" he laid down on the grass and placed the cat he was holding next to him and held out a hand to me "here, let's take a nap together" he said 'eh!? Well, I don't know. But I am tired' "um, ok" I lay next to him and he pulled me onto his chest and of course I have a tomato red face. 'This is beyond weird' but I fell asleep within 2 minutes. 2 hours later. I woke up to being carried on someone's back "mph? What the-?" I said "Kaitren-Chan, you are awake" I looked to see the one carrying me was Kiku-san "oh I'm so sorry for making you carry me please let me get down" "no, it is fine we are armost at the airport and your bag is there arready" he stopped and let me down we walked into the airport, gave our tickets to the person at the gate and boarded the plane we sat in our seats and waved to turkey and Hercules. As the plane took off for Serenia I told japan "I think I'm going to travel the world" "rearry? Why?" "well, I want to see the world and believe it or not I have only been to Spain, Italy, Australia, Serenia and Greece and I only got to spend a short time in each area except Serenia and Italy" "where wirr you go first?" "Hm. I don't know." 'Werr, Brittan is coming to stay for a week in my country tomorrow would you rike to come as werr?" "Are you sure it's alright?" "Hia, it is fine. I wanted to show you my home" "then I would be more than happy to accept but let's keep this a secret form my big brother I want to surprise him" Kiku-san nodded. I let my head rest on a pillow and fell asleep. The next day. I arrived at Tokyo, japan; I was wearing a pure white dress with white flat shoes (me: you really like dresses. Kaitlyn: I'm Serenia I have to wear dresses because YOU make me. Me: fair enough) I looked around to see all of the many sites and trying to find Kiku-sans house on the way I bumped into someone "Watashi ga okonatte ita tokoro, watashi wa totemo zan'nen, watashi wa mite inai yo" (Translation: I'm so sorry I wasn't looking where I was going.) Then the person I bumped into said in English "it is aright" I looked up to see it was Japans boss "what a moment aren't you Japans boss?" "That is correct, and you rook very famiriar" "you must have met my boss I am Serenia" "ah, Serenia! Good to finarry meet you so what brings you to Japan?" "Well, I'm here to stay with Japan then I'm traveling across the world to learn all I can" "ah, oh and I heard you big brother Brittan is here too" "yes, but he has no knowledge of me being here, I'm going to surprise him well, goodbye!" I ran off to find Kiku-sans house. 7 hours later. I found Kiku-sans house and he wasn't joking when he said he lived alone, he's got no neighbours. I picked up my suit case, then I hear a noise well, more of a laugh I turn around to see a little girl playing but I can see straight through her. She looks at me and waves I wave back smiling then I walk to Kiku-sans house, I walk in his garden and see him talking to Arthur, I called out to them "Kiku-san! Big brother!" I ran to them they turned their heads and looked at me when I was in front of them I put my suit case down and hugged Arthur "Kaitlyn? What are you doing here?" he asked "Kiku-san said that you were coming to Japan so I decided that I would stay for as long as you were here!" I answered smiling he chuckled and hugged me back. 2 hours later. Arthur went for a bath in the bath house and I got ready for mine and put a robe over me then when I was ready Kiku-san asked me a very weird question "Kaitren-Chan aren't you going to bath with sir Brittan?" "Eh!? Why would I do something like that!?" "Werr, he is your brother" "but, there are some things I don't do and that is one of them!" "I think I know how to get into the bath house and take a bath at the same time as Britain without him seeing you or knowing" I sighed "okay, how?" he lead me to a door which opened to the bath house at the far end with lots of steam "Arigatō" I said as he closed the door I stripped off my robe and stepped into the bath. Steam covers me so no one could see me 'ah, the bath fells so nice' I pulled my hair tie out, letting my hair fall and naturally curl "it's a human!" I looked up to see a green creature looking at me he looked like a man with a bird beak and a turtle shell, then there was a little garlic looking thing on his shoulder "sorry we'll leave now miss!" he said "no, I don't mind in fact I like the company" "well, thank you very much miss" then we heard another splash "oh so he only just came in" I said I looked up to see the spirits went to greet Arthur so I swam up to the large rock that separated us"…and then you came in right after the miss" I heard one of them say "oh so you have another friend over there, come on out no need to be shy" I heard Arthur call out, I poked my head out from behind the rock "come on" 'I'm going to guess he can only see my silhouette' "no thanks I like my dignity" I said "uh!? Kaitlyn!?" he called "what gave you your first clue, genius?" I replied "I'm getting out so have a nice time talking with your new friends" I said as I was about to get out "no, wait!" I heard Arthur say "please don't I know I'm being un-gentlemen like but, I hardly get any time with you so please stay" I sighed "fine but I'm staying over here" "I don't want to be rude so I'll introduce myself, my name is Arthur Kirkland and this is Kaitlyn-amethyst. Water lily" "well, I must say govern you have a very pretty girlfriend" I turned red "I'm sorry but I'm not his girlfriend!" "She is my younger sister!" "Oh very sorry you both looked like such a cute couple" "and if your siblings why don't you have the same last name" "actually Kaitlyn why is that?" "Because I like my last name the way it is and I don't mean to bother you but would you mind telling us about the Japanese culture?" "Sure, no one knows more about the Japanese then us. First of all the sushi your familiar with was only created not too long ago" "really, I didn't know" "you could always use wiki I'm sure they've nailed it" then we all start laughing. 2 hours later. me and Arthur walked out wearing Japanese pyjamas mine looked like his "sir Brittan, Kaitren-Chan you two were in the bath a rong time" "yes, well we were busy talking to the two blokes that were already in there" Arthur said "what!?" Kiku-san asked "well I'm going to bed coming Kaitlyn?" "Yes, um Kiku-san where will I be sleeping?" "In sir Brittan's room I hope that is okay" I sighed "it's fine" I walked to Arthur's room and laid out my futon with a lily design next to Arthur's. "I'm glad I came here" I said "oh, and why's that?" "Well, I got to see you and spend time with you, I got to visit Japan and see spirits" "hm. You really are a kind girl" "thanks Arthur, well, I'm going to sleep goodnight" "goodnight" then we fell asleep. A few minutes later. Excuse me govern, miss?" I woke up and seen the spirits standing at the door "yeah we just came by to thank you for a wonderful eventing "oh, hello" I said then noticed Arthur was still asleep I poked his face and he opened his eyes. "Mh? What is it?" I pointed to the spirits "oh, hello fellows we should take a bath like that again tomorrow" Arthur said as he and I walked onto the porch where the spirits were "oh we would love to but we were just leaving this place for the mountains, you see we were taking a bath to celebrate our last night here" "but you don't have to leave do you?" Arthur asked "well we do you see long ago although people were afraid of us they believed in us I guess you could say we had a mutual respect for each other but as time grew on, our entire existence became a superstation we used to be able to talk to too" "but nowadays he won't even look at us" "and that's the reason you have to leave?" I asked "well you can understand we feel as if we've over stayed our welcome, but it was nice to spend our last moments here with you both" then the creature walked to the entrance area and waved to us "take care govern and miss" he called "hey we should take a bath together again sometime" Arthur called out "yes, that would be lovely" they said "oh!" I exclaimed "guys do me a favour? If you by any chance see Konohanasakuya-hime (the blossom-princess and symbol of delicate earthly life. She is the daughter of the mountain god Ohoyamatsumi.) Tell her flower child said hi!" I laughed "no problem!" then they left "hey, Arthur" "yes?" "Did flying mint bunny talk to you ya know the night I left for Serenia?" "Why yes he- wait you can see him!?" "Shh! Arthur keep you voice down, and yes I can see him, him and your friends" he hugged me and smiled "finally someone who can see my friends" then we heard laughing and a little girl in a kimono "ah ha! So you were the one making the noise! Get back here! What are you? Damn your fast!" Arthur yelled as he chased the child 'I'm way too tired for this' then I walked back in the room and laid in my futon I fell asleep dreaming of the world.
